We had a delightful table with a great view of the beach. We made a reservation and we were seated promptly when all of our guests arrived. We enjoyed our meal and had a wonderful time. The one negative was that several of us had ordered the fish and chips and found them to be a tad over done and somewhat dry. We expected the quality to be somewhat better for the price. Our server while good could have been a little more attentive throughout the meal. Our bill for lunch for six people was over $200 and only one alcoholic drink was ordered.

Poseidon went above and beyond to create an allergy safe meal for our daughter. The head Chef Jamal personally came to our table and diligently reviewed our anaphylactic allergies. He was knowledgeable, kind and conveyed confidence he understood the seriousness of our concerns. My daughter was ecstatic she could eat a safe meal and proudly ate her entire steak! The service was excellent, the salmon cooked to perfection, delicious scallops, and the sunset view was unforgettable. Thank you Poseidon Del Mar!! We truly appreciate you and will be back :)

STPENDOUS!!! Poseidon was amazing. We had the Seabass and the scallops I have never had a better Seabass in my lifeIt is my favorite fish and it was so amazing. You don’t really need to order a side just stick with the entrée that they give you. We also had crème brûlée and a lovely chocolate cake for dessert, highly recommend this place

September 2023 (plus random annual-ish dates since 1982). Location is always 5 stars - right on the sandy beach, with waves just a short 20 - 50 steps away. (Ive seen water splashing up on the main dining deck more than once.)Menu has changed over time, now offering mostly seafood dishes as opposed to typical SoCal offerings. Coastal Cuisine is the current theme of the menu. Breakfast / brunch offered on weekends.As with everything, everywhere, prices are significantly higher than in previous times.Arrived ~ 12 noon to a light crowd. Seated seaside - close enough to build a sandcastle. For todays lunch, my wife and I split the seafood Cobb salad - a delicious and generous serving ofMesclun mix lettuce, Diver scallops, shrimp, wild seabass, salmon, Haas avocado, heirloom cherry tomatoes, shishito peppers, smoked bacon, hard boiled eggs, Maytag blue cheese, lime-cilantro dressing.Decent coffee is available. Wine, beer and spirits as well.Nearby parking, both free and metered; on crowded days, the valet parking may be your best bet.Go! Enjoy the fresh atmosphere along with your meal and conversation.

This restaurant which is right by water has got a great ambiance especially for the Saturday or Sunday brunch. The food is also good, last time we were there we feel like the food was better prepared, but nevertheless you won’t be disappointed. It is nice that the restaurant has 7$ valet parking cause public parking in the neighborhood is quite expensive (35$)

Not only is the location on the water beautiful but they have a large patio and huge roll up windows which brings the beach atmosphere even closer.The food is outstanding and the portions are generous. Romantic and relaxing. They have a cool glass fireplace wall inside by the bar. The menu is mostly seafood but they have really unique dishes. My husband and I just went for a romantic lunch this week and had salads. They were gorgeous and huge! I am vegetarian so you can order anything and leave out the meat or fish. I had the quinoa salad and a side of truffle fries. All of their dressings are homemade tasting and outstanding! Our go to when we have guests from out of town. Really shows off our beach living 👍🏼

Me and my wife wanted to watch the sunset, so I searched for ocean view restaurants and ended up making reservations at Beeside, when we got there, their “oceanview” was terrible, completely obstructed by other houses/buildings, so on a whim we researched another restaurant nearby and ended up at Poseidon. Why not ? Valet was $7 bucks, which is very decent. Their ocean view is incredible, can even be seen from the inside, but their food? The best I’ve ever had… this restaurant delivers in service, quality and speed, food was served in less than 10 minutes. Is pricey but you get what you pay for, and their food is really amazing, no matter what you order. I’m glad we ended up at this restaurant by accident. We will definitely be back!

The Poseidon restaurant located on the beach in Del Mar has quickly become one of our favorites in all of San Diego county. The views of the beach, ocean, and sunsets create memories of a lifetime.Valerie is our favorite server and we ask for her by name. She and her whole team take great care of us. The food is cooked to perfection and the portions are hearty…a winning combination! Little touches, like their house made cocktail sauce, really make the difference.The mix of diners is really quite interesting as well. It’s clearly a favorite spot for locals (especially the happy hour) and they share space effortlessly with corporate accounts that are giving their clients all San Diego has to offer.Whether you’re a local looking for a new favorite place or a long distance traveler looking for a really memorable experience to take home with you, come and give Poseidon a try. We sat at the bar for our meal and were treated to excellent service, views, and food. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the waterfront can be seen from many seating areas. Our bartender, Andrew, made our entire meal special. He took time and interest to learn about what we liked, made suggestions, and delivered some delicious drink creations. The salmon entree and Dungeness crab cake were top notch. Andrew ensured everything was tended to and made a great meal a memorable one. As we were traveling from out of town, he also gave us some great advice on area attractions and other dining. We will be back when we visit again.

Our group was staying at the hotel next door and we walked over for dinner one night. The view from the back patio was GORGEOUS! Ambiance, food, service were all top notch. Everything I ate was DELICIOUS! (The Hokkaido Scallops were huge and cooked perfectly! Other people in our group loved the sea bass and seared ahi!) We loved our whole experience here and highly recommend you stop by if youre in the area! I cant wait to go back!

Wow, what a view! Sunset is absolutely the best time to come and sit on the patio, its gorgeous. Great drinks, loved the French 75 and negroni. We had oysters to start which are always my favorite. Then I had the land and sea which is a flat iron steak with prawns, delicious. Very good service and valet parking.

Watch out for the Manager of the seating… if you show up just before they close she may not seat you and tell you that she’ll “let you in only if you hurry and order fast” other than that it was really was perfect service !!!

Our server David was amazing, this was a few weeks back hopefully somebody from management tells him a great job. Definitely a professional server also gave us a good tip to get out and go to the Glide port. Maybe hell remember us we were there for our honeymoon. This restaurant is located right on the water and is a perfect place to enjoy some fine dining Beachside. Went here for a special birthday and had a menu specially designed for the guests. Had the ribeye dish with asparagus and that was very good. Thoroughly enjoyed a little bite of the short rib and the opening horse for me was the Caesar salad. The ending dessert was lava cake which was amazing. The beach side view at sunset is magical and highly recommended for a romantic or special occasion. The servers were wonderful the managers were great and the bar area to start the evening had a very attentive staff.

A wonderful … but slightly mixed culinary blessing. When all goes well, everyone at least once in their life should experience such supremely fine cuisine and gratifyingly superlative service. Others among my guests ordered more traditional entrées, I ordered the Cioppino; it was delightfully full bodied and every morsel and spoonful was tasty beyond sensible expectation. My wife ordered the Land and Sea and then hardly spoke during dinner because she was so focused on the jumbo Scampi-style shrimp and Flat-iron steak (medium, not medium-rare; tasty but substantial); nevertheless, she did stop eating long enough to say that the asparagus were impeccably cooked. Others in the party ordered the generous Steamed Clam hot-appetizer for dinner; when served hot, the ladies commented on the full-bodied flavored clam morsels and wonderful sauce; however, their dishes were not initially served hot and the uninhibited complaints about the flat tasting cold cooked clams and insipid sauce brought Dave back pronto. The clams came back suitably hot in less than 5-minutes, after which the ladies were charming, again. They complemented the clams on their toothsome flavor and texture, and the white wine burnished broth which was fragrant now that it was hot. Our waiter, Dave, did not serve the clams cold; it was supporting staff who were not so discerning. My lady guests made sure that Bob, the manager was informed. Cold clam broth aside, our rating is 5-STAR because we had a lovely evening and in truth, Dave provided wonderful and gentlemanly response to the urgency of the cold clams directly. Note that I sat between the two ladies while I was eating my Cioppino for the full 5-minutes that it took to heat the clams. Dave got the full 20% tip (cash). (Please click 👍🏼.)

Ive been going to the Poseidon since the 1990s. The restaurant has seen many changes over the years but a few things have remained the same: great food, great service, great views! And an awesome vibe. You really cant pick a bad time to go. They service a nice brunch menu, happy hour is always fun, and they have several delicious dinner plates. Good drinks too. Its not cheap but if you want a good experience that is sure to be remembered its definitely worth visiting.

Super scenic spot to enjoy dining and cocktails. I’ve never been able to find a place to enjoy a meal with a water view that compares to this location. My husband and I dined here in 2017 and I still crave the experience to this day! The drinks were top notice and fresh flavorful meal. I recommend the margaritas and the tacos with guacamole appetizer is like no other! Perfect experience with walk on beach after meal! 🌸

This restaurant has delicious food, and a great view. The service also impressed me greatly. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating for our large group. The food took an appropriate time to be prepared and was delicious. At the time of our visit, they had a 3 course promotion, where you buy a full dinner at a set price. They did have some gluten free options, but not as many as some other restaurants. I ordered the blue cheese salad, their salmon meal, and the fruit sorbet for dessert. When I return to San Diego in a few years, I’ll make sure to revisit this restaurant.

What a bummer! I grew up coming here. Service is wonderful but for dinner none of the entrees are under $50. My $50 scallops only had 3 scallops on there. We spend $250 on 3 people so if you are going for a date night, expect to spend minimum $200 for 2 people if you drink. We used to come and get sandwiches or burgers and drinks and it was the best! Shocked the menu is so limited and the Im still hungry getting home. They need more variety on the menu

Such terrible service . 4 of us were shoved into a booth for two and the woman who sat us was flat rude . No one came to ask about our food or fill our water glasses. Super disappointed for the price absolutely not a 5star or even a 3 star experience . So many better restaurants in Del Mar . Don’t waste your money for diner . Lunch seems to be their jam .

Ive been here for drinks but hadnt tried dinner yet. I really enjoyed the seared ahi tuna item off the dinner menu! I substituted the Wasabi mashed potatoes for tge regular ones, but everything was cooked perfectly and the stirfy veggies were really good too!My friend got the carot soup which he said was really good and tasty with a side of rice.I also tried the crab cakes which I really enjoyed as well, my friend thought they were too dry but I thought they were really flavorful. In terms of desert, I prefered the special of the keylime cheesecake over the chocolate desert. The cheesecake was a tiny bit dry but I just dipped it in the sorbet and was great! I definitely would come back to try the steak the next time.

Awesome seafood place. Overlooks the beach. There are heaters on the patio so no need to worry about temp. Ordered some wine by the glass and the ceviche / crab cakes appetizers which were both great. The ceviche was quite large and came with freshly made tortilla chips. We were served a side of cholula sauce to complement. Crab cakes were on the smaller side but topped with really yummy thinly sliced apple and had a few sauces smeared on the plate. We ordered one sesame crusted tuna to split which turned out to be the perfect amount of food for two. It was a large plate of 6 generous slices of sushi grade tuna with a delicious ponzu sauce drizzled over the top. The puréed parsnip was topped with Asian vegetables and was absolutely delicious. Since we were celebrating my birthday, we were served a crème brûlée for dessert which was really nice - nothing to write home about but they did a nice job with it. Would recommend ordering several dishes here to share vs everyone getting their own dish as the prices are high and portions are pretty generous. Extensive wine list - ordering by the glass is cheaper than ordering bottles so if you want to try multiple wines, just do that. All in all, really great seafood place - highly recommend!

The view is beautiful, parking difficult, and food.. well, youll see. I went with a friend for brunch and we were seated quickly. Everything was lovely until we got our veggie skillet.. It was drenched in oil. :( I had a shiny layer that was enough to cover the entire base of the skillet.. not very appetizing unfortunately. Remove the oil and all good!

Poseidon is a great beachside spot in Del Mar. It’s an upscale place with amazing food and service, but it’s also laid back and beachy. The restaurant does a great job of blending a casual atmosphere with exquisite dining.The sea bass, lobster, rib eye, and lava cake are all delicious menu items. They also make a great cappuccino. I love sitting on the patio here and experiencing the beach as I eat.Their valet parking is very inexpensive as well. All around great spot.

Visited this beautiful place on 9/15/21 during a visit with my lovely sister. The waiter assured us a seat on the patio. He was professional, attentive and cute. We ordered the Spread & Bread for our appetizers (this was delicious). Then for my lunch order I had the Seafood Platter (Lunch Menu, see photo). The food was delicious, and the beach/ocean view was breathtaking. Sitting on the beach enjoying a delicious meal with family is PRICELESS!!!

We Went for a birthday celebration and the The service couldn’t have been better. Great food. Restaurant gave the birthday girls complimentary dessert which was so nice. (Vanilla ice cream for the 2 year old and crème brûlée for the adult birthday girl). Highly recommend this place for a special occasion. It was also nice to get a group photo at the beach afterwards too. The public access is around the corner. Paying for the valet was worth it.

The restaurant opens at 11am on weekdays and we were seated at that time, at an excellent table right on the beach! For that reason, get there early, if you can.It was packed by noon, not a very large place.The atmosphere, the staff, the service, the view, were all excellent. Prices were good, for the location, food quality, etc. It was a $15-25 range. Three of us spent $30/each for food/coffee. The mamosa was delicious, the Shrimp Scampi was good, fish tacos, etc looked delicious, at other diners tables! The $5 Valet who parked my car was nice, because parking in Del Mar is aggravating.Dress is casual chic. Good news for us, we didnt know what to wear, as we had never gone for brunch in Del Mar! But sundresses, nice shorts, dress jeans, polo shirts, etc. were perfect attire. And, you should wear easy-to-remove shoes, for a walk on the beach after your meal. Its a wonderful experience!

First time here, but it was a pleasure. We went for Fathers day. It was busy and packed. We sat outside and it was perfect. Great scenery with dolphins visible off shore. Our server, Jesus, was fun and efficient. He made us feel very welcome. If I found any flaw at all it would have been the fried calamari. Never had it be so thick large but tender. A bit unnatural. I used to love this place and would go there with every visit to San Diego. The most recent visit may be my last. Their prices are out of my comfort zone and they have eliminated hamburgers from the menu. Also, the parking rules are somewhat draconian, and the attendant wouldnt let me park in their lot since I arrived ~30 minutes early from LA, even though the lot was less than half full. Started off with the seabass ceviche that was phenomenal. Wife had the fish n chips which came out hot n crispy. I am giving this place 4 stars on this visit. We came on a Sat afternoon for lunch and were told that there is lounge seating available. We didnt mind. The menu was very different from the last time I was here, not sure if its because it was the bar menu or not. We didnt order drinks as we had to go back to a conference. We did get a bunch of apps to share. We got the calamari, ceviche, ahi tuna takaki and the clam chowder. I liked everything! The calamari was delicious. This place by far has the most amazing patio and views of the beach you are literally on it.Service was excellent, from recommendions to attentiveness and keeping my water cup filled immediately from not only my sever but others as well.For dinner I had the Sea Bass, another had the Filet, and another the ravoli. Once inside, I loved the background music of genres ranging from reggae to bosa nova to reggeaton. It was my 3rd anniversary with my boyfriend so I made reservations weeks prior to the date, which happens to be Valentines day, because I wanted to make sure everything was swell. They had a special V-day menu which I thought was great but my bf wasnt that fond of, lol. Nonetheless, the appetizers were delicious, and the wine was up to par! For entree I chose the pan seared Chilean sea-bass and my bf chose the wasabi sesame crusted yellowfin tuna (our server highly recommended it). My plate was exceptional, but unfortunately my bf didnt like his tuna plate because apparently its served raw [but honestly it was easy to miss given the fact that all appetizers and course meals that were raw were listed as (Raw) in red so idk why the tuna plate wasnt listed as (Raw) in red as well]. Anyways, least to say, my bf didnt like his highly recommended plate, and it took a while for our server to come back so my bf could try to change his plate. By the time our server came back to our table, I was done with my plate (I tried eating so slow for what seemed like 45min), and our server didnt ask if my bf wanted another plate or even apologize. We ended up leaving earlier than anticipated, and we didnt even get to have dessert...on Valentines day, which I was really looking forward to.

Came to check this place out for happy hour, we were able to get a seat at the bar, almost every seat in the place has a great ocean view. Fully stocked bar and reasonable deals on drinks for happy hour. They have a few options for happy hour food which was all really good. Calamari, Cheeseburger, shrimp to name a few. Valet parking is 6$, which is a good deal unless you can find street parking in the neighborhood. The meters right across the street run till 10p. Need to come back and try this place for dinner.

The next morning I ended up in the hospital with food poisoning. I spent my last vacation day in the hospital hooked up to an I.V and taking medications to stop the throwing up and severe runs. I wish I had photos to share. The food was outstanding. I enjoyed the chilean sea bass and scallops special. The fish melted in my mouth. Dessert was a delicious chocolate lava cake with vanilla gelato. The restaurant was fully booked despite the rain, wind and cold weather.

Great food great staff except for the Uncle Phil looking dude that wasnt very personable. The Chilean Seabass was amazing. It got a little chilly after the sun went down so if you plan on sitting outside, be prepared for a cool sea breeze. Sorry no pics of food 😥😥😥

Low rating because we never got service. We got seated on the patio in no mans land and couldnt get the attention of any servers working tables around us. After it was clear we had no server, we went to the front desk to inquire but they were too busy as well. We waited several minutes but ended up walking away when we realized we couldnt even give feedback. The food being served around us looked good though....

My husband and I went here for the first time for dinner on the outside deck for our anniversary. Had the prawn cocktail, pistachio brie, filet mignon with scallops and prawns and dessert. Perfect everything...beautiful night with plenty of heaters, our server Robert who had a great attitude and even changed the silverware and cleaned the table between courses (havent seen that anywhere for years), excellent food and cocktails. Very pricey, of course, but worth the trip from Oceanside and we really appreciated the quality and professionalism an will be back for special occasions.

Stunning location by the Atlantic ocean,most seating outside in a very comfortable area.There is seating inside if it is too hot outside.The menu is fantastic, my husband enjoyed his starter and mains. I enjoyed mine as there were at least two or three vegetarian or vegan choices. Delicious.Very friendly, helpful and industrious staff making sure we had everything we needed.Would recommend if you are visiting the San Diego area. You wont be disappointed.

Having live in Greece during the early 70s I had savor the simple taste of Calamari and I havent found a restaurant in the US that could duplicate the real Calamari. I ordered the crispy calamari and it was served with a sprinkle of sweet chili sauce and horse radish?. I sent it back and requested a fresh slice of lemon. It was so pepperi covered with panco? They were tender though.This is not Calamari in its essence. These are slices of micro octopus. Calamari are small squids. However, the tea was the best part. The vessels were warm and held the tea hot longer than most restaurants. The waiter who took our order was very professional. The guy that served and replaced the calamari doesnt deserve to be in the restaurant business. He was irritated and gave me a dirty look when I sent the calamari back. He didnt listen when I asked for the lemon slices,so he had to make another trip with my request. The place was noisy too. I may come back because an old friend wants to have calamari sandwich. GROSS. I will order probably dessert.

Its incredibly difficult these days to find a restaurant that is well run when everything runs smoothly this is one of those restaurants..... So happy that I found this restaurant again its been many years since I was there, beautiful restaurant on the beach in Del Mar, Nice menu, If I could change something I would ask them to increase their selection of soups and also unique appetizers but besides that... I have been coming here since I was a kid. It has changed over the years but has always been great. I had the filet tonight and it was perfectly cooked with lots of flavor. My wife and friends had the Mahi Mahi special with the scallops and said it was delicious too. Our server Scott was amazing. Very attentive and nice, gave great details on the selections and where they were sourced. We took our roommates dad visiting from New York and he was impressed. Overall an awesome experience.

Atmosphere is odd, not in really good taste and awkward. Views are not optimized. Service was slightly above poor. Waited almost 45 minutes until the waiter found sometime to stop by and take our order. When speaking or asking questions, server frequently interrupted. For the lack of service and the quality of the food, we rate this overall below average as the prices are very expensive for what you get. We ordered our steak medium rare and it came out fleshy and raw...flavor...poor. Actually the Caesar salad was one if the worst weve as it had no flavor for special touches to it and poorly presented. Not one dish stood out that was good or with great flavors . They need a better chef that makes creative food that is tasty and unique . They need to find someone who can actually cook a steak on the grill for the prices you pay here . Far better dining experience, atmosphere, service and much better quality food at both the Chart House and the Brigantine which we ate at within days of being here. Seemed quite unprofessionally managed. Will never be back. Not recommended!

Outstanding food. Dave was super nice. I got the filet mignon and was the best steak I’ve ever had. Sea bass was also super good. We sat “inside” but felt like outside. They propped open all the doors to let the cool ocean air flow through. Makes the view a 10/10. Would recommend.

Poseidon is amazing. Always. But I came with my 20-something daughters. We don’t have giant appetites and are sober living. I really did feel as if we were a disappointment to the waiter on a busy Christmas evening because we had Rea, appetizers and desserts instead of large-bill items. Our service seemed to drop as soon as we were identified as non-alcoholic small appetites. Which made me sad because I love Poseidon and wanted to make a special night for my kids. Our waiter was still quite polite - just less attentive. And I did still leave a 20%+ tip. It is something for them to work on. Hopefully.

My husband and I hold Poseidon as our favorite restaurant in SD.We have been coming here for years. The setting is exceptional,the food is the best, the staff always have a smile. Wanted to share with you that it is a disappointment that the wind break glass was put up on the patio. Takes away the sea breeze and cant hear the surf.
