Everything was great, casual spot where you order at the counter and then find a seat at a table. Soondobu with dumpling was really yummy with a generous serving of vegetables and a nice variety. Seafood pancake is more of a home style and much thicker than most other places but very flavorful and spicy, ideal for spice lovers. Taiyaki was made to order, sweet potato was really good. Best taiyaki I think I’ve had in recent memory, light crispy and soft, less dense but more chewy than others I’ve had, which I liked a lot. Food is made with love, the cook/chef came out to check on us and offer candy lol.

The pork bulgogi was a sizzling spicy delight that the chef takes great pride in. It comes with a small bowl of rice but we added an order of kimchi rice to make it a tasty light meal for two.
From the unassuming front to the passionate owner and staff, 8 Star Cafe was a pleasant surprise for my girlfriend and I while we vacationed in Palm Springs and came up to Yucca Valley for some stargazing. Its the only Korean restaurant in the area and the area is blessed to have it. We had the bibimbap and the galbi plate which came with SIX side dishes consisting of napa, radish, cucumber, seaweed kimchis, seasoned bean sprouts, and marinated eggplant. The food itself was delicious and comparable to popular Korean restaurants near LA and given in hearty portions that will ensure you are full. The owner and staff make sure to put care into your meal and it shows in the final product and with their service as they will make you feel at home in their cozy restaurant as they tell you snippets of their life story and how they got here in the desert serving Korean food. It was an amazing experience and you should give it a shot if you are in the area.
The kimchi fried rice was cooked to order and came out fresh. It was very good! The service was friendly and courteous. The sweet potato taiyaki was a nice treat - and theyre homemade!
The food was super good and authentic. The kim chi was ripe and yummy. I got a bottle to go. I had gotten dehydrated earlier when I went to Joshua Tree and didnt feel good, their tofu soup (what we call Soon Doo Boo, they use organic tofu here) was on point and helped me get back on my feet. The owner makes all of her kim chee in house without MSG. And her smoothies are made with organic fruits. This would be my go to health food/ethnic restaurant when I visit Joshua Tree. The owner was wonderful with my son.
Food and drinks were good. My mom and I both got the soft tofu soup. My husband got the teriyaki chicken to share with our kids. And my dad got the dumpling rice cake soup. All of it was very good. Maybe the soft tofu soup wasn’t as spicy as we would’ve liked but we enjoyed it none the less. My husband and I ordered the honey milk tea with boba and both of us really enjoyed it. Are they expensive? Yes. But the food is made fresh as if prepared in your ajumma’s kitchen plus when you have the monopoly on Korean food within an hour+ drive, you can charge whatever you want.
If youre super hungie go here and order some Korean food. I ordered japchae and it was super delicious and comes with banchan and rice. Its a lot of food. They also make taiyaki right in front of your face and both red bean and sweet potato are so good.
Amazing korean food that definitely hits the spot. No MSG, and all family recipes. Owner came by and conversated with us as well and you can really tell she cares for her store, food, and customers. I tried the thai tea, and knowing from the pictures I should’ve known . Thai tea is such a safe drink when it comes to boba, but this one tastes like powder and milk. I felt shy to speak out about my 6 dollar drink and i did and they said no one says they don’t like it and how I already drank it haha so they couldn’t do anything about! just want to warn anyone who doesnt like powdery boba !
Most excellent Korean BBQ. Super yummy, I had the beef bulgogi and glass noodles. The melon smoothie at the end was out of this world good. We will definitely go back. Great to have this place in Yucca Valley.
Stopped by today! Got a Taro Boba smoothie! Sweet, soft taste! Totally recommend. They have coffee machines to make your coffee when ordered. Sampled the spicy rice cakes, wow! Spicy and chewy. Can’t wait to come back! Ms. K was pleasant and cared for my curiosity to the cafe.
Review is for the bobba tea only, I didnt get a chance to try the food. I got a milk tea with boba tapioca pearls. The pearls themselves were delicious ---not too chewy and not too soft. The milk tea was the right amount of sweetness, as in, not too sweet just for a milk tea but they have other flavors that are more sweet if thats your thing.

This is just half of my order of Spicy Bulgogi and half of the Shrimp Fried Rice. I also got a container of steamed rice and a bunch of sides of kimchi and other greens. More than enough for two people to eat well. The Thai tea is delicious and the popping pearls go great with it. They were so kind and made it extra spicy for me and I loved it! Everything is made fresh and I love that they have a temperature and hand sanitizer station. This is authentic Korean cuisine. Thank you for being here 8 Star Cafe!

Stopped by and got the california fruit smoothie with boba and my girlfriend got a mango smoothie. They were absolutely hands down thee worst boba drinks Ive ever had. The boba itself was gross and falling apart. The smoothie was slimy and flavorless. Just bad all around. Then to throw in on top it was $22 for two boba drinks. Two words. NEVER. AGAIN.
Overall food was okay nothing too special, but it is pretty overpriced like what a lot of the reviews say. Wish they gave out more portions for what Im paying. The boba is also but also overpriced.
Fast food type that u have to order and pay first. The food is super expensive. I ordered Bibimbap and It only contains vegetable and a bowl of rice with no egg for meat whatsoever. I was absolutely surprised. The dish costs me $19 and the veggies in my dish are worth under a dollar. Unimpressed by all accounts. Will not go back to waste my money again.
A very homey atmosphere, the two ladies that ran the front and cooked were very friendly and took special care of preparing the food. Restaurant was clean and food was surprisingly fast. Each dish tasted exactly as I remember when I was last stationed in Korea. The authenticity is apparent especially when the owners take the time to talk to you about each dish. Highly recommend this restaurant if your looking for Korean spicy deliciousness thats authentic.

Highly recommended if you want to feel like you are eating a home cooked Korean meal. We just came back from 3 months in Korea, and 8 Star Cafe really hit the spot. The bulgogi and soft tofu soups are perfectly flavored, and we look forward to visiting the kind aunty who fed us well again!
We ordered the rice cake soup and the dumpling tofu soup. Both tasted comforting and home cooked, perfect for a cold night! The owners were very friendly and generous with the portions. Would definitely make a trip to come back!
8 Star Cafe needs way more attention than it gets. I used to eat here a lot before I moved away, and I still think about this place. The owner is so nice and you have to try the spicy pork bulgogi!

The women is very sweet, the food is really good. I wish more people would go as the business was slow when we went, none the less if you’re in the area please give it a try you won’t regret it, they have boba and the dumplings are actually really good compared to other places that I have tried.

I think this place is mislabeled as a cafe when its really more of a restaurant. My kids and I stopped here to grab a beverage and get in some work/study time. We ordered our drinks and a jar of kimchi and asked about wifi.The main counter worker was very friendly, but we were then greeted by the owner (?) with a lecture about using wifi at a cafe and that they would give us the code if we promised not to stay long. Sure, I know that some people camp in these places, but it would have been easier if the person has just said no and not assumed that we were there to take advantage of the wifi. We did just spend nearly $30 on kimchi and overpriced boba.We did not feel welcome at all.We ended up leaving after only about 45 minutes as the vibe was def, get out and give us our table. Again, if a restaurant I would understand, but both Google and Yelp got us here via our coffee search.Lastly, while I bet that the Korean food is amazing (the kimchi was excellent) the boba was not. Not only overpriced, but my two boba drinkers did not even finish theirs.Sadly, even if jonesing from Korean during our stay, we will not be back. Maybe next time after the sour taste wears out.
Never been to a restaurant that tastes this fresh and homemade. The service is beyond nice. This cafe definitely lives up to its name. 8 Stars. The food is a little pricey, but the boba teas are a good value.
Located in Yucca Valley this is a great local spot to get some nutritious and delicious food. Inside is clean and well built. They sell boba of all kinds! The food is otherworldly which they prepare homestyle! If you are looking for something new to try look no further and stop on by this wonderful cafe.
We didnt get pictures today but we got excellent service and great quality food. The food is meant to be shared in Korean Bibimbap so I ordered one serving of that and one serving of Teriyaki Chicken for my wife and son. We all got separate plates so we werent all sharing the large bowl and had a traditional Korean dinner with great sides that we could combine with the Bibimbap. Everything was made in house and tasted wonderful! Their Kimchi and Raddish Kimchi are some of the best sides in the place and taste sooooo good!
This is a gem of a place I found here. If you are looking for a great Asian Restaurant/Korean Restaurant, come to this place. I ordered a Kimbap and soft tofu soup and it was awesome. Plus they gave me a ton. They gave me more than double the normal order Id get in the LA area. Plus they gave a lot of side dishes as well. The place is spotlessly clean too. It is so awesome Im writing this review as I eating. Im gonna be extremely full when Im done here. Come try this great Asian Restaurant for yourself. You will be happy you did.

We been there before. Price a little expensive. The two ladies the first time we went had great customer service. Food was a 9 out of 10. But this trip was not good. New employees. They forgot part of our order. We had to send back our soup because the dumplings where still cold. We no lo ever wanted the soup so we asked for the Korean bbq. We asked how long it would take and one male employee refused to answer. He just went on about it costing more money. We said we know and that’s fine. We just want to know how long it will take. He was easily angered. He was cursing and wanting to fight. Another employee wanted to fight with him. So that’s two employees against one customer. We had to call the police because the older woman fired him and told him to leave and he would not leave. She did not hire him someone else did. Who ever the owners of this place needs to not hire aggressive angry employees and leave an old lady to deal with him. Who ever you are, you are messed up to do that. The two ladies who worked the the first day where 5 star! But these new employees got to go. The owner needs to fix this.

Walked in at 4:30pm to order togo.... waited an hour to get the food. I ordered chicken teryaki & strawberry slush with strawberry popping boba, my daughter ordered kimchi fried rice & taiyaki. There was no flavor to the teryaki chicken, it was bland with no sauce. The rice was over cooked. My daughter said her food was disgusting and threw the whole thing away. She did like the taiyaki red bean thing. We spent over $50 for dumpster food. Im shocked at the good reviews. The wait was ridiculous and the food disgusting. We wont be going back. Other patrons were asked about their food and they said dont recommend and wont be back either... the gal who took our order was nice but when asked how much longer it would take to make our food she told us to pleasewait longer. They forgot my drink until reminded and we had to wait another few minutes for that! Ugh... disappointing
Cute spot for Korean in the desert... everything looks great and has all the appeals of good Korean food but it’s missing flavor. I wonder if the desert Asian spots are making the food bland for the clientele here. So hard cause Korean is my favorite type of food Nd this is so close but not excellent. 5 stars anyways for the service and packaging and maybe I just hit it on an off day

Found out about this restaurant from a post on Facebook and gave it a try. Has a very nice selection of authentic Korean food. I had the Kimchi Fried Rice() and my wife had the BiBimbab(). They both included a package of Dried Seaweed() which was a nice suprise as you almost never see that offered, let alone included for free anywhere outside of Korea. Both of our dishes were delicious and I will definately be going back again.
Why didnt I come here to eat sooner? Glass noodles, terriyaki chicken BBQ, extra kimchi, extra seaweed salad, red bean waffles. And the matriarch cooking in the back and checking on us. I love it. I want to eat here every night. Youre welcome.
Had awful curry next door. Thankfully I ordered some delicious dumplings from 8 Star. Didn’t come with any dipping sauce which was odd but still great.
Stopped here to get bubble tea. Stayed for Korean seafood pancakes. Proprietor is adorable. My heart is full.

We have been popping in here to get thai tea and macha green tea after my daughters guitar lessons. Decided it was time to write a review and throw up some pics. The thai tea I get is okay but it tastes like it is made from a powder and not a brewed tea which is a bit disappointing. I could be wrong, but I dont think so. The macha, according to my daughter, is awesome which is why we keep coming back. I have not eaten here but I have seen the plates. For the portions I have seen people getting in relation to pricing it is way overpriced. Also, there is a lady who I am assuming is the owner that is posted up at the back table of the restaurant who is always just sitting on her phone with a huge mess all over the table like she lives there. It is an unpleasant site in a restaurant, and frankly makes me not want to eat there especially when the rest of the restaurant is immaculately clean and tidy. It almost sparkles when you walk in. They definitely spent some money remodeling and buying nice equipment and countertops, etc. As far as the staff, they are extremely nice which is the main reason I am giving the place 3 stars. Every person that works the counter is so nice. Keep it up staff! You are the reason we continue coming here.

Price for the simple korean food here is outrageous! Its almost doesnt make any sense. Portion is super small.. the tteokbokki is flooded with sauce but less rice cake & fish cake & tasteless..
I love everything about this place!! The food quality is AMAZING! I got the veggie sandwich, taiyaki, green tea and some other stuff. They have the best and freshest taiyaki 😆😍 They even custom made a cheese one for my friend. Plus the people here are SOOOO nice!! I love it and they definitely deserve the business. Soooooooo good!!! Have been looking forward to this place opening for a while and finally got to try it and was so worth the wait. A little pricey, but they give you more than enough for two people, and it’s understandable considering that amidst the pandemic they had to get more things to keep their employees safe. Got the pork bulgogi and the veggie glass noodles and they were delicious!! 🤩🤩🤩

Quaint little cafe with amazing coffee! Every latte is freshly brewed, and they even offer soy and almond milk options. Great if youve grown tired of your regular ol cup of joe. The coffee is just the beginning though, as they also offer boba in any drink youd like, as well as the traditional milk or thai tea, among other options. If youre hungry, theyve got you covered there, too. Freshly made taiyaki, sandwiches, and some korean bites like spicy rice and fish cake (tteok-bokki), kimbap, and kimchi fried rice are prepped and ready for you when you want it. I highly recommend the red bean taiyaki, its got a sweet taste that doesnt overdo it, and the warm crunch of the fish-shaped exterior gives it a good texture. This is my new favorite spot!
Stopped in at 8pm and they stayed open to make my green tea matcha latte with almond milk. Thank you! If they had gluten free food I would eat here but for those who dont have dietary restrictions it looks good.they have almond milk for all their drinks though!

They have plenty of seating, WiFi, and lots of outlets!I got the red bean taiyaki, which were delicious waffle like treats, a milk tea with boba, and the bulgogi quesadilla, another winner (Korean style grilled beef, kimchi, and cheese mix so well!).

She gave us recommendations for what to order and walked us through the entire menu.After she heard that we were in our honeymoon, she brought us out some free desserts and fresh grapes grown from a vine at the owners home.We are so thankful for the incredible experience and cannot recommend this place enough!

From kimchi fried rice or dumplings, to Soon Dubu Jjigae, everything Ive tried is absolutely delicious. Pictured are my favorites: the Spicy Pork Bulgogi and Japchae (glass noodles), which come with homemade sides (aka banchan) and rice.Their homemade kimchi is also very very good - better than what youd find in most Korean Markets. I usually buy a jar to take home.Ill also point out that their boba and Taiyaki seem legit! I dont see many places that actually have a taiyaki press... excited to try it one day when I actually leave some room!

2023-04-10 00:31:02First time visiting. We ordered the shrimp fried rice, fish mackerel, japchae, pomegranate boba (cold) and matcha tea boba (cold). The only thing I truly enjoyed was the matcha tea. Everything else was oily! Too oily! The customer service and the decor were really good though. Being the only Korean spot in 29 Palms I have to give it 4stars because there is no other 29 palms Korean restaurant that makes boba to compare it to.

But don’t let that scare you. Just order all the Korean food and you are good to go. Food came out quickly and it was yummy. I would definitely come back

2023-10-26 23:22:47Delicious food, and really lovely staff. They gave us persimmons to snack on while we waited for our to go order, and the food was delicious. Portions are really generous. Will definitely return next time we visit the area.

2022-07-25 06:48:20Not your usually korean restaurant, you order and you only get 3 side dishes, it was kind of flavourless, but the staff were very friendly...The fish cakes were tasty tho. Not authentic korean food. Its more a mixture of asian and western culture foods. A quick cafe more like.
