Food and service were absolutely amazing! The Achilles Chicken plate was perfectly seasoned and came with a very generous portion - great value for the price. Falafel came out still hot and fresh. All of the staff working there were extremely friendly and professional. It was my first time there and they were very welcoming. I’ll be back for more!

Achilles is a middle eastern restaurant that has great plates.Many people typically get the combo plate as you can choose two different proteins or just one protein. Wraps also available if preferred.We ordered via doordash (this review will be based off that experience) and the food came pretty warm still.Overall the beef gyro was a solid choice as it complements the rice and tzatziki sauce wellThe chicken shawarma was a little dry and didnt have as much flavor as expected, but still decentIf youre craving middle eastern food in the santa clara area this is the place!

EAT HERE. You will not regret it. On our way out of town for a girls trip to San Jose, we had a chance encounter with someone who used to live there and recommended this place. It feels like divine intervention. I really like the menu concept. I think her name was Grace - and if it isn’t, it should be. She was so kind and helpful and so was the other gentleman. They walked us through all the options and their recommendations were so thoughtful. And if the service doesn’t sell you on this place, then the food will. But who doesn’t love being helped by kind people who love what they do and are proud of their absolutely amazing food. I will come back here anytime and it’s so good, I will plan a trip around it. Seriously, eat here. It was a highlight of our trip.

I ordered the combo with both types of chicken, shawarma and Achilles. I went the whole shabang with my plate which is why it looks so loaded. I appreciated their recommendation as it was my first time there. Their pita is doughy and soft which I enjoyed.The waffle fries and falafel (crispy moist 👍) were fried on the spot. Id come back here if I was craving Mediterranean and in the area again.Looking forward to trying their beef options.

The reviews are true, the place is worth visiting: fantastic service, delicious food, large portions, simple but specialized menu, affordable prices, and you leave with a great taste in your mouth and a smile in your face. Just come for your lunch or dinner, enjoy every bite, and then come back for another menu item until youve tried everything. I have to admit that my expectations were pleasantly surpassed!! Went for a business introduction for catering services for our company and tried out several items from the menu. Not only was I impressed with so many items from their menu but they have their own spin along with traditional dishes like hummus, falafel wraps, chicken schwarma. Oh did I mention that their baked goods and display is second to none. You have to try their Baklava and pistachio treats. The staff and the management are so courteous and friendly and no wonder why they have a great reputation. They have a good small outside dining area to enjoy the food and outside atmosphere. Achilles is great for anyone including business catering. Definitely recommend and will be back soon. Thank you...

After seeing so much hype about this place, I had to try it out! The heart-shaped falafels are super cute and they fry them fresh when you order! The texture is honestly just okay though. Each falafel is dense, and not very crispy or fluffy. The flavor is overall nutty and delicious with rice. Next time Ill try it in the wrap!Everything is complimentary with your dish, but I do notice that they tend to be a bit inconsistent with their portions. For example, my rice plate had much more hummus than my boyfriends rice plate.My favorite was the Achilles Spread! I can see why its their house specialty. Its very creamy, fluffy, and tangy. A hint of garlicky flavor in there too. Very delicious. The hummus was also really delicious, but it tastes strongly of citrus. Pretty sour... but in a good way. Not your typical hummus.We also ordered some waffle fries (a bit expensive for $5), but they fry them fresh when you order too!PRO TIP: Dip your waffle fries in the hummus! Sounds strange... but it was strangely addicting.Since this is a TAKEOUT ONLY spot, we took our food and had a picnic at Henry Schmidt Park down the street. It was a great date idea :)

My husband and I LOVE Achilles. We’ve been coming here for a long time now and the food and service never fails. You can tell that everyone who works here cares about their customers and building good relationships with them. I always order a plate combo with mixed carved meats and their spicy party, hummus and garlic spread is delicious. I also love their dolma!I own Infinity Martial Arts in San Jose, and we had a black belt test and needed catering. The first place I thought of was Achilles because I’ve brought my students here to eat many times and I knew they would love it. It was such a hit and we had so much food! Everyone was amazed and I would highly recommend Achilles to everyone I know.

They offer halal meals, and their food is good. However, the portion size in relation to the price is expensive. Unfortunately, the restaurant lacks ample seating space inside for customers . Additionally, the three tables outside the restaurant are not clean or well-organized.

First time I just randomly selected a sauce on the online order cause I had no idea how were they taste like.When I arrived for pickup, the owner recommended the best sauce option instead of my choice. I am a vegetarian and my friends recommended this place. Though its couple of blocks away from my place, I never got a chance to try Achilles food. I always saw people enjoying their meals in their outdoor seating area; when I pass by that place (it’s located at Newhall Winchester crossing, so easily visible) and knew I am going to try it someday for sure. I am glad that my friends appreciated their food so much that I had to try it the very next day. I can bet that all menu items must be awesome depending on the taste I had in falafel pocket sandwich. If you order falafel pocket sandwich and don’t have any allergies, always go for everything in it from their complementary options because thats how it goes for yummy taste. Waffle fries are the must try.It has my heart now and I recommend everyone to give it a shot for the best Mediterranean food I had in bay area.

When it first opened, food was great, seems quality went down a bit, while price went up significantly… keep getting small bone chips in the meat while chewing.. Employees are friendly, but a wrap & a fountain soda used to be 15$, same order now is 20.61$, 1.50 extra for feta seems outrageous, the Cup size also seemed too shrink while Fanta & lemonade been out of order for too long.. still way better than overrated falafel drive in though. I’ll have to consider more fast food than I’d prefer based on price📈 and quality..

This has been our go to Mediterranean restaurant but in the last visit we were not happy with the food. It tasted like always but the bread was hard to chew and had a tough time eating Achilles special without making a mess. Also wish they had more room for eating at the restaurant.

I was sketched when I saw that this place still had a 5 star rating after 77 reviews, so my friend and I decided to try it out! Came for lunch on a Saturday and got the achilles special ($5.99) each, fries ($2.99), and the falafel 4 pieces ($2.99). Their 4 Piece falafel is heart shaped (super cute!). The food tastes great and is healthy! My friend that has gone to Falafel’s Drive In (featured on Dinners, Drive-in’s, and Dives) on Stevens creek and said that Achilles tastes MUCH better. They have a square register so they take all of the credit cards.~~Parking: Fairly small lot in the front, but there’s additional parking in the back!~~Service: Outstanding! The staff is very friendly and they checked up on my friend and I to ask how the food was even though it’s not normally one of those places (it’s a order first & sit place).~~Best Part: The Achilles Special!! It was super good! I got Hummus and Achilles spread and everything else on it and it was just a good mash of flavor.~~Worst Part: Nothing. I was introduced to Achilles over a year ago and recently, I was craving Mediterranean food and realized that Achilles was around the corner. I arrived for a late meal and ordered a combo to go. The service was awesome and while waiting for my freshly made falafels, the friendly manager/owner saw my serving to go and gave another generous portion of shawarma! The smiles and friendliness of the staff and their generosity make me a huge fan of Achilles!Parking is somewhat limited in front, but there’s parking in the back and on the streets nearby. I highly recommend this wonderful place!!

I had the falafels fresh out of the fryer and yeah they were delicious. My favorite thing about this place though is the ability to get salad or rice, or both, with your meal. I would probably not get sauce or hummus or pickles or olives (for salt), and get salad with a protein (falafel or meat), if I were eating here with the intention of being healthy. Their green salad is very green. Not just iceberg lettuce.The chicken shawarma was tasty. Had some fatty pieces which I think is normal. They have outdoor seating which is nice.

The shawarma wrap is very different from what youd get almost anywhere else. Im just not sure if thats good or bad. If you order it with everything, it feels like a weird combination of ingredients that Im not sure go well together at once like that. It sort of feels like some kind of attempt at Arabic-Mexican fusion with the burrito-style way they do their wraps, so you certainly get more volume than most other shawarma wraps. Before I over-analyze this any further, Ill just say I would definitely go back to either try a wrap with different contents, or go for the plate instead.

Food is terrible. 2 combo plates; chicken shwarma, beef gyro, falafel, and house chicken. Beef gyro and shwarma were ok, the rest was literally trash. The Baba ganoush was literally rotten. Ordered the hummas and pitta which came with a massive container of hummus (yay) but ONLY 1 single pitta smaller than the size of a small hand. Im a big fan of large portions but they cram so much into 1 box that its not even enjoyable. The salad is completely smashed under rice and meat, salad had no dressing, the sauces were dumped ALL over everything (took up more than 1/2 the box), they put about half a can of jalapeños and half a can of black olives ontop of everything - thats simply not mediterranean food, just processed laziness. This is by far the worst Mediterranean food ive had in my entire life.Someone’s review said’ “eat here, you won’t regret it.” Well we do regret it and that was the worst $79 I’ve ever spent.Don’t trust the good reviews, you will be disappointed.

Ordered a combo plate with a side order of falafel, hummus and pita. Its basically a chipotle style Mediterranean place where you pick a base (rice, salad, wrap, pita) then your condiments (hummus, babaghanosh, tabboleh, tatziki, spicy sauce, garlic sauce, tahini, cucumber, picked peppers, tomatoes, onions, olives, garbanzo, parsley) lastly you pick a protein (falafel, gyro meat, chicken shwarma, and Achilles chicken which is chicken breast cooked on the griddle in its marinade). Combo plate (2 proteins) cost $12.99. side order of falafel (4) was $3.99 and a container of hummus was $3.99 with a pita bread.We left without our falafel. I called and explained to the owner what had happened and he asked that we come back. He apologized and gave us an extra order of heart shaped falafel.Everything was delicious, the condiments were so fresh it cuts the heaviness of the dips. The pita is light and fluffy. I wish that our gyro meat and chicken shwarma were freshly carved from the spit, but it was quite busy so they carved some in advance and kept it warm so it dried out a little. Definitely going back.

Probably the best Mediterranean food I have had in the Bay area and really inexpensive too! The falafels are made fresh and are among the best I have had. We have visited Achilles twice at this point and every visit has been nothing but wonderful experience!First of all, the food is AMAZING. We loved the beef gyro, Achilles chicken and all the toppings and sides! We really couldn’t have enough pita bread and the waffle fries are beyond delicious! Don’t even mention the portion size - you will feel VERY satisfied (or even get a food coma) after you finish your plate ;-)Secondly, the staffs are so friendly and helpful, which makes us look forward to visiting the shop again and again. After giving this place another try, I have to say I don’t get the hype. I’ve ordered the wrap where they use a burrito tortilla, and the flavors do not mesh at all. I also have gotten the chicken plate with the works. After picking it up tonight the meat was cold and lacking flavor, and they were out of hot sauce and used tapatilo instead. I just wasted $25 for this and sadly won’t be back.

Picked my son from Santa Clara University to have lunch and found Achilles.. About 1.5 miles away from campus. The food was great. He got the plate with Achilles chicken and Beef. Everything was delicious.. Also tried the falafels and baklava. The best part was Grace. She was so lovely and very hospitable. After reading so many shiny reviews about this place, my family and I decided to try it because our go to falafel place was already closed. Their website shows dine in but it is actually carry out only. The staff was very patient and friendly. They even gave us some extra falafel for our first time. The desserts my wife chose were delicious. The Achilles spread is really good, it and the desserts were the highlight of the meal. The hummus was pretty good too. The falafel while cute heart shaped, the flavor and texture were average, but very fresh as they were fried to order. The Achilles chicken pita was just ok except for the pita itself. The pita was really rubbery and flavorless. I was first dissatisfied they didn’t give any pita with the falafel plate, but after trying to chew one bite of that pita, I was glad there wasn’t more. Try the desserts, but beware the pita.

I have not visited this place in about a year and I was excited to eat some delicious beef gyro. To my surprise this place has really lost its special touch. What once was one of the best reviewed eateries nationwide if I’m not mistaken is now an over priced, bland Mediterranean food. The plates now run $17-$19 depending on the meat you order and some sides such as tabbouleh are extra, $5 to be exact. To top it off the food was cold when I went to eat it. The meat on the rotating skewer is just a lie. Their meat comes from a drawer that I’m assuming is supposed to keep their mean warm and it’s not doing a good job.Im sure the two owners will see this and if you do, I think you lost your vision you are focused on bringing in the most money as possible and no longer focus on the quality of your food.If you want over priced Mediterranean food at about $20 a plate with bland an cold food this is your place.

Achilles Mediterranean falafel wrap blew me away! I love that you can add spreads like hummus and baba ghanoush in addition to rice and greens. This is THE BEST hole-in-the-wall Mediterranean restaurant in the Santa Clara area! Portion sizes are large and prices are reasonably cheap. The owner is so nice and attentive, and they let you try a sample of food if you dont know what something is. Highly recommend.

We needed something at a reasonable price but with high quality ingredients. We were looking for hole-in-the-wall, locally owned ethnic food and this place came through like a champion. Owner is super nice and the flavors are to die for. Probably the best falafel and shawerma wrap Ive had on the Peninsula. Will definitely go back next time Im near San Jose Airport (SJC)

Ordinary food, didn’t feel it was fresh. Chicken shawarma was a bit chewy and hard. Falafel was good but did not love the sauces much. Not one of my top favorite falafel places to go, will probably not go again soon.

I am so happy Achilles opened! It has only been open a couple weeks and I am already becoming a regular. I ordered the Achilles special and it was delicious, you have to try the garlic spread!It wasnt just the food that made this place special for me. It was the experience: the staff were super nice and welcoming and the restaurant has a great ambiance. Ill be back next week!

Food is amazing and management is even better. They have a sign in the store that if you have fallen on hard times just let them know and pay whatever you can. The sign says we are all one big family. This place deserves all 5 stars if not more for cooking amazing food and for being an awesome addition to the neighborhood.

Best middle eastern food in Bay Area. Everything here is good, especially their heat shaped falafels, chicken shawarma, spreads (hummus and baba ganoush), sauces (tahini, taziki and chilly) and fries. Wonderful staff and amazing owner/manager. Hell make sure you are take good care of. First time visitors are often greeted with free fries or falafels.

This was one of the highest rated restaurants in the world on Yelp in 2018. Their Achilis chicken is highly recommended, combo meat option is also good. Food is always fresh, you can add unlimited toppings and garlic sauce/hummus/babaganush to your plates and have the option to choose from rice/salad/pita as the main side. Not at all expensive, rather its a great value for money. Restaurant is small, good for takeouts, very popular in South Bay hence pretty busy almost always.

The food is really good. Id talk about the meats, but I couldnt not describe the falafel - a great combination of crunchy/crispy outside and nutty, full flavored interior.Most important about this place, though, is the people. The owner is always so pleased to see each customer, and everyone on staff is really happy and helpful. Ive seen quite a few people show up with no idea what to try (myself included), and the staff is happy to describe, sample, and give suggestions.Ive found that, more often than not, my enjoyment of food often has more to do with the context of eating it - where you are, the people you are enjoying it with, and the people who make it. The food at Achilles is very tasty on its own and doesnt need any of this to be worth checking out. They do, however, absolutely nail the part about the people who make and serve it. And thats the real reason I keep coming back.

The owner and staff are super nice and friendly. The food is pretty good. I can eat something healthy and tasty for not too much money. I like the chicken shawarma salad. Their falafel is a little heavy onthe parsley, but still good. And its shaped into hearts, which is a nice touch. Definitely get some of the Achilles spread. Its a thick garlicky yogurt sauce that youll want to put on everything.

Delicious. Top Greek spot in the South Bay easy.The plate is a pretty huge portion of food. Toum, hummus, salad or rice, choice of protein and all the fixings; cucumber, tomato, feta, garbanzo beans, olives, onions, jalapenos etc.Staff are always very friendly. Wow, this place is fire. Truly exceptional baba ghanouj, falafel and tabouleh salad. Delicious pita and beef. Everything we tried was delicious and easily outshined other Mediterranean spots in the Bay Area. Their sauces and spreads were mouth watering. We told the head dude that it was our first time and he was generous with extras and later checked in on us to make sure we were happy with everything. I wish I lived closer so it could be a regular spot...I’m going to crave it soon.

My friend and I stopped in to sample the food to see if we wanted Achilles to cater a party for us. We were able to sample schwarma, gyro and falafel--the falafel was so good it was in a class by itself, and heart shaped!--and then their sides, which for us were tabouli, babagnaoush, and hummus. Everything was excellent. We also sampled thier baklava, which is extraordinary. We were so impressed with the food that we hired them to cater our party, which was yesterday, and I got nothing but compliments from our guests. So right now we have some leftovers--yeah!--but in the future I will definitely be going back to enjoy their tasty and satisfying food. Highly recommended. So glad they are in my backyard!

Excellent food. Very simple and tasty! The kids plate is basically the size of an adults. The gyros and the Achilless chicken are both very good. No frills, just good food. We will be back. Its says Grand opening but doesnt seem like that is true. Maybe they just needed to take the sign down.

I was very happy with the chicken shawarma salad plate with spicy party along with a lot of other veggies. The hummus is good too. The Achilles chicken is like chicken tikka masala or something and not worth it imhoThe falafel is cute and nice and big and tastes good. Worth adding it as a side.They actually forgot to give us the falafel (was made fresh) and when we reminded them they gave us free waffle fries. The fries were really well seasonedand hot and fresh. This may be my favorite shawarma place ever, and that says a lot as I love them all, rivals Mediterranean Wraps in Palo Alto. The falafel is fresh out of the fryer. You order your choice of marinated meats in a salad, wrap, it pita. Then select amongst a dozen of additions. Loved it!

The falafal is good but nothing else here is worth eating. They have two kinds of gyros rotating on spits but what I ordered wasnt cut fresh from there (like every other restaurant) and was pulled out of a drawer and tasted old and bad.They have no common drinks (like iced tea) and you end up with a tiny cup of water. The dining area is bombarded with loud music played from a broken radio that stops and starts every 15 seconds. It does this non-stop and none of the employees or management seem to care how annoying it is to hear a song 15 seconds at a time.Last time I ate here I was sick for the next 5 days. Cant understand why this place is so highly rated when the food, service, and atmosphere is worse than McDonalds

I always have falafel because its meatless. Although the servings here are large, I find the taste of the wrap and sides to be bland. The sauces are used sparingly, and the tabouli is mostly onions, although it looks green. Ive tried their falafel in several different ways, but the total bite is not very satisfying.

First time here and I loved the food. Very simple place but I highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent service, excellent food. Baklava was too dry for my taste but the meal made up for this.... Delicious! The staff are very nice and friendly! Two 👍👍
