The gardens and location of Alegria were perfect! We also loved the gourmet breakfasts each morning. We stayed in the Cove Cottage. The old wooden windows did not all close properly, which made the room a but drafty. And the bathroom facilities were RV-sized, so just be prepared for that. Also, the wifi is only in the main lodge and does not extend to the cottages.
A world away...Ok...Actually a couple hour drive as it certainly feels like a world away. Fantastic! Eric and Elaine have a true gem here in majestic Mendocino. My girlfriend and I celebrated my birthday and the opportunity to unwind from work. We stayed in the incredibly unique room Tree House. Fun and a great location. The breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious. The starter of a bowl of fruit and the best waffles and scones we ever tasted...Bravo! Locally sourced foods were fresh and cool to support other small business. We were greeted upon checkin with a bottle of wine placed in our room along with a Happy Birthday card too. All in all a great few days. We will be back. Cheers!
This is our favorite place to stay in Mendocino, hands down! This time we were lucky enough to stay at Cove Cottage as it is popular. Well worth it for the views, the stars at night and the eucalyptus tree outside. Just beautiful. Oh! And the breakfast and lemon bars are fantabulous, too! For outright ocean views book Garden Cottage, Sea Breeze and Pacific suite. Highly recommended!
A rustic place to stay and enjoy the sight, sound, and smell of the ocean. Lush back patio is great for relaxing. We stayed in the Treehouse Cabin and loved it. Perhaps the shower could use updating but the fireplace was an unexpected treat. Bed was comfy and other than nearby road noise I slept soundly. Service was fantastic. Breakfasts were simple but wholesome.We will absolutely be back.
The place is run by an awesome couple. They are so professional, kind, nice, and sweet. The place takes you back in time and slows you down a lot, which is what you want. There is a long narrow path down to the beach where the river meets the ocean. Amazing. There is a wooden swing on the same path too that adds a nice touch. Along the path you can pick sweet ripe blackberries (I was just there, August).Be careful of the poison oak. The breakfast was excellent. Some of the fresh fruit was all from the garden 🤣. There are apple trees and fruit trees. The fireplace was really well stocked and stacked very nicely upon our arrival. I love this place and really respect its owners.
Eilleen and Eric are wonderful hosts! They have such cozy and homey rooms. I really enjoyed their homemade complimentary cookies and continental breakfast in a basket that gets delivered to your door.They put a lot of care and thought into the stays at their inns and cottages. Also they have beautiful coastal views accessible by walking or driving just a few minutes away :)
My wife and I just finished our anniversary stay at Alegria; second year in a row. As we drove down Route 1 and through Anderson Valley on our way back to the airport, we were sad to be leaving and wished we had booked at least a few more days. We stayed in the Pacific Suite, a good size space on the second floor of the main house with a deck overlooking the beach. We look forward to returning next year, but for now, its back to our home in New Hampshire.Alegria is situated on a bluff above the beach, Big River Beach, at a place where the Big River converges with Mendocino Bay. The beach is part of the Mendocino Headlands State Park. We walked down to the beach every morning before breakfast. It was a perfect start to each day.Our wonderful hosts, the location close to town, easy access to the beach, the corner fireplace, our deck with a view of the beach through the eucalyptus tree, the pleasant breakfast room, the headlands, and the serenity contributed to a supremely comfortable experience for us.Alegria is not a luxury resort awash in activity. Instead, it offers a personal and uniquely calming environment that is just right for my wife and me.Thank you Elaine and Eric for a wonderful stay. See you next year!
I stayed at the Driftwood Cottage which was probably the most unique place Ive ever stayed at: a built-in bunk bed, a full-sized kitchen, and a private enclosed, miniature, backyard. It was abundant with fairy-tale storybook charm. I imagine it would be a perfect place for a writer to hide away from the world and finish their next great American novel. Most importantly, it was clean.The breakfast was delicious. The main building where the breakfast is served has a charming garden in the back facing the beach. Sadly I did not have a chance to take the walkway leading to the beach. Saving it for next time.
Beautiful rooms to rent! Comfortable room, clean and affordable. We rented the Roku house room with the entrance that has stairs leading to the room. Lvrm, 1.5 bathrooms and bedroom. Continental breakfast with coffee and tea delivered to front door every a.m. Highly recommend and will go back!
Just came back from 3 wonderful nights in the Pacific Suite. WONDERFUL.. The view and location are spectacular.. could not be better. The room is beautiful, wonderful fireplace and great watercolors on the wall. Beautiful bathroom, everything anyone could want or need. Breakfast is to die for! All three days different and delicious. One reviewer said the cemetery was next to it. I dont think they stayed here. It is down the road and x the street, can hardly see but if you look for it u can find it, not any issue for us. Our room was really large, beautiful view that we kept staring at... just amazing. They also did a picnic on the beach for me, such a wonderful surprise for my sweetie. Wonderful wine, bread, cheese, grapes, strawberries. First class. We will not be staying any other place and we will be returning! Totally hooked.
My wife and I just returned from a stay at Alegria and I have to say that it was a bit overpriced for the room size and the amenities included. By the way, it is not an ocean front view but a partial beach-river mouth view. Also, Alegria is located just across from the cemetery, which it is a fact most reviews failed to mentioned and which I would have liked to know before making a reservation. On the other hand, the breakfast was great and the attention was good. The rooms need some remodeling and the pictures in their website are deceiving at best. While we did have a quiet and peaceful stay, we will not return to this place. There are far better Inns for this kind of money.
The Alegria is a special place. They have a number of unique rental rooms/cabins. In the main house is the office for check in and delicious cookies/lemon bars. Yum!For breakfast, the owners Elaine and Eric will lovingly serve Elaines award winning breakfast. Yum Yum! The Alegria has its own path to the near private beach. The Alegria and Mendo is a nice combination to recharge your batteries!
Awesome Bed and Breakfast, my wife and I stayed here for 2 days recently while on vacation and we loved it. The owners are very nice an knowlegeable about the area, and the suites are very nice. We stayed in the upstairs suite, the large suite with a balcony and large bay window, with an incredible view of the beach and ocean. Awesome, great stay and perfect layover on our way to Tahoe, Yosemite, Seqoia, Big Sur and finally Carmel by the Sea. The downtown is a sleepy town and closes early, but get takeout and bring it back to your balcony with view, we did that both nights.Also the breakfast is incredible A++++++++++
I stayed in the Fireplace Suite, which offers the unusual convenience of both a full bath and a WC, and ample hang-out space in the generously furnished living room. Breakfast was outstanding -- featured fresh fruit salads, banana ginger pancakes with imaginative edible flower garnishes and both vegetarian and meat sausages for members of our party as appropriate.
What a wonderful place! I just spent the weekend here and was awestruck by the warmth and hospitality of the owners. Breakfast was home made every morning (incredible!!). Mendocino is a delightful place to explore and the Alegria is a wonderful place to unwind. Sitting on the porch, watching the ocean was truly heavenly.
Fantastic cottage with log fire, cosy bedding, and beautiful garden. Breakfast was amazing: fresh fruit, frittata (they called it a frittata but it was a gorgeous soufflé), scones, hot coffee, juice etc. Everything made from scratch, which was unexpected and absolutely wonderful. Hosts welcoming and friendly.
Had an amazing experience here a few years ago. Stayed with my partner and had the time of our lives. Breakfast in bed was sublime, amazing views of the ocean and those Lemon Bars, couldnt get enough of them. Will be back one day.

A formidable place, especially the attention, a very friendly couple, the decoration of the main living room is very nice, we have some delicious lavender scons for breakfast, they have a view of the sea, and a road that goes directly to the beach

My wife and I stayed in the east suite of the Raku house. Wonderful, cozy room with a seating area. Great location in the business district of Mendocino that puts you in walking distance to shops and restaurants.
We stayed in the Tree House room and it was in the second floor away from the main house. Lovely room with all amenities you need. Service was excellent and a great home place to stay. The fireplace was real nice too
Omg wow..I didnt expect the customized welcome and details of what kind of tea I enjoy and the details of what type of milk for my coffee.We had a welcome bottle of wine, home baked sweets and chocolates. They also are very detailed and make sure to follow covid procedures we stayed in the tree house.Quite cozy with the fireplace and rooftop windows to stargaze. Not only was it very welcoming, the breakfast was amazing. Really wholesome and thought out. We stayed an extra night just for the breakfast. We will be back.

My only regret is not staying here longer.The rooms are very clean, and one of a kind; with wonderful artisan touches throughout. The breakfast was impeccable - organic local juices, the hot chocolate used 3x kinds of chocolate and will blow your mind, chef Victor’s omelette is to die for. Several ingredients in our breakfast came from Allegria’s garden. The walk down to the beach is just magical and the beach itself is breathtaking.Alegria Inn exudes Mendocino Magic everywhere you turn and we can’t wait to return!P. S. I’d recommend asking the owner Eric the history of this Inn and the love story behind it. It’s a very moving story, and made Alegria Inn even more special to us.

2022-12-06 23:45:23Love Mendocino, and this is my and my partners happy place! The location has beautiful ocean views, and very peaceful. The Tree House room is our favorite. Although its not ground level and rustic, its completely private with a balcony. Has a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, wood-burning fireplace, etc. Very self-contained!

We stayed in the Treehouse and enjoyed so many thoughtful touches: The super-comfortable bed, the fireplace all set to just throw a match on to light, a delicious snack tray, and scrumptious eggs benedict breakfast, to name just a few. Eric and Elaine have clearly put so much thought into everything over the years because the inn was perfectly relaxing, beautiful, and serene. I can see why so many other reviewers return time after time. After visiting with Eric and Elaine on the gorgeous deck overlooking the beach on our last morning and getting tips on local activities, we hiked down their private trail to the beach and set off for a great day in Mendocino. Well definitely be back!

Of course, Mendocino is lovely, but Eric and Elaine and the Staff of Alegria were just wonderful. They really pay attention to the small details and make you feel welcome. We will absolutely go again and we recommend it to anyone looking for a private, quiet, romantic get away!On the morning we prepared to go home, our car wouldnt start. Eric and Elaines son (sorry I forgot his name!) gave us a jump without any hesitation. That kind of service isnt common these days.

2021-05-18 16:38:48My wife and I stayed at the Alegria Oceanfront Inn & Cottages this past weekend for our babymoon as we are a few weeks away from our daughters delivery date. We wanted/needed a quiet, relaxing and private getaway and the Alegria did not disappoint! The property is gorgeous and very well-maintained. We stayed in the Garden Suite which was quaint, cozy and perfect for the two of us. There is a great view of the ocean as well as a walkway to a semi-private beach. The staff was very responsive and the amenities were excellent. Delicious hand-prepared meals were delivered each morning. I am still drooling over the egg bake from the first morning. The location is excellent: it is a 5-minute walk to Mendocinos downtown. The parking situation is a little tough but thats being nitpicky. We loved our time staying here and absolutely intend to be back. Thank you, Alegria staff!

Personal accomodations that make you feel like youre hidden away in a pocket of tranquility, even though its very accessible and on the edge of town. Cozy, welcoming, private, but with perfectly full surroundings. We stayed in the Garden cottage, and it was arranged so that you had full enjoyment of the garden and the water view, without worrying about staring at other guests or them staring into your space. The deck outside was perfect for the house reserve wine that was provided the afternoon of check-in, and for sipping coffee in the morning listening to the ocean and the birds. There were so many wonderful details that we appreciated in the room and from the innkeeper: the wood burning fireplace that was already prepped for an evening fire, the folding coffee tables for breakfast, the welcome card and chocolates. Also, the breakfast was incredible!!

2021-10-31 18:23:43Have been traveling across the country, and this is the best place I’ve stayed in thus far!!! I recommend staying in the “treehouse” room. The room is so unique and the breakfast is delicious. It has a loft bed and a full kitchen and the most comfortable couches. The shower is also super cool.
