Nice atmosphere at the diner, friendly staff and the food was perfect. We are 2 Europeans not used to the generally bigger American food portions, so we decided to both get a “baby burger” with cheddar cheese and share a portion of fries. It tasted delicious and was more than enough filling for us. We couldn’t finish all of the fries so they give us a bag for us to take it home. Overall an amazing experience!

Turkey burger was good, but the fries were cooked in dirty greese and cold. Also, fast food employees now make $20.00 an hour, so please remove the tip option to avoid creating this expectation with employees. I worked fast food for a number of years and did not expect a tip and made a low hourly wage. I pay the increased food prices and now they also want a tip, I feel gouged.

Been here about 50 times, used to be better. Last 4 visits our order was messed up. The food was definitely not the highest quality, but it had a classic vibe and a classic price and it hit the spot. Now things cost a lot more, the quality isnt better, and the service is worse.

Love the place 🤎. Some of the best burgers 🍔 😋 around. I had to learn that you can order a half order of French fries 🍟 because they give you so many 👍🏽. Its a small setting be the staff is wonderful. Oh and its constantly busy.

Big fan of the burgers and the women who prepare the food are great, but the management/ownership of this place appears to have changed and the service and cleanliness of the place have gone way downhill. I can give a roadside hamburger stand a bit of a break, but the cleanliness/hygiene here has gotten pretty bad.

In a 10 mile radius, nothing even comes close to the freshness, and quality of this superior burger. I’m going to be honest. Not everything on the menu is great. Avoid the fish and chips. You go here for burgers. This place has a secret. It is simply a seasoned grill like no other. They cook so much, that the flavor transcends normal beef, into its godly form. Yeah, you can have good burgers at other places. But, if you know what I’m talking about. It will bring you back to a classic diner style feel, with impressive service and mouth watering smells. They earned it with time and quality.

This is the only place I know that actually cook burgers over real fire charcoal, no gas flames here! The burgers are perfect, though prices have gone up over the years, but thats just the way it goes. Best to dine in as the burger and fries will be good and hot ..... and you wont smell up your car!

Great location, a short walk from El Cerrito Plaza Bart Station & Plaza. When Im passing through shopping or doing errands I make it a plan to visit Als. Its run by a nice Korean-American family, its an Albany hallmark. The prices are great for a great portion. Usually order the Fish 🍔 with Fries and a Large Sprite, today got the Cheeseburger with mushroom and the works. Man was I filled 😊, this place pulls folks from different walks of life, & everyones polite, opening doors for others, saying excuse me, offering others their table (for me 2x). Once someone leaves their table someone quickly wipes down table. Your order isnt that far behind. I always make it a point to say thank you to my servers & once I depart. Theres a restroom around the back, youll need to ask for the 🔑. If youre in the area, doing errands or passing through its a great 🍔 joint. They close @ 7/8 pm, forget.

This place is amazing, eating here they always have amazing burgers and fries. The burgers here a great, the staff are friendly and the food is made quickly. The only problem I encountered was that you had to sip pretty hard to drink your smoothie. The solution is just to let it sit and lose its viscosity.

The burgers here are juicy and cooked well, the fries are crispy and golden, and the milkshakes are great to wash it all down. The menu is highly customizable and shows the prices of everything which is extremely helpful. The interior provides a fun classic burger/diner joint experience, and the service is fast. I like the fact that you can see the whole kitchen, and you can tell that effort and care is being put into what is produced, unlike some fast food places. The staff are helpful and fun to talk to. Pricing is average, not much to be said about that. Big Als is quite comparable to a nicer In-N-Out, but the experience and hands on approach at Big Als makes it more worth it to visit rather than a fast food place which would be slightly cheaper.

Best burger ever!!! Cooked over Mesquite and never greasy. Ive been a customer since childhood and somehow the Product is the same. My Father and I knew Al as customers,. My Wife and I are very happy to see the current staff and consider them friends.Old (outdated) building however spotless and clean.A Burger and Fries is a lot. Prices up like everywhere. This place is so good. I get the big burger, grilled fresh on a bun with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and mayo. Good old- fashioned place with ketchup and mustard squirt bottles on the table. Fast, friendly service. My mom gets the BLT, served on a bun. The bacon is so crispy and good and you can order the crinkle-cut fries extra crispy. A great place for burgers. As others have said, no frills old school mom and pop operation. First bite and the fact theyre flame grilled is unmistakable. My solution to the oft mentioned fries problem is to take them out of the bag immediately, they are much crisper when I do that. I dont eat burgers that often, but when I do this is where I go.

Hands down...the best burgers in in Town (Albany, CA); my personal opinion. It may be a bit pricey...but its worth it. My 2nd choice in town would be Nations...but I always make the effort to give Als my business as much as possible, plus supporting mom and pops joints are important, especially now during Covid. Also, what I like as well is they always remember repeat customers, and acknowledge one by name...which is nice to be recognized and welcomed. So when in town, make a pit stop and grab a bite at Als Big Burger joint.

The burgers may be good. I did not try. I tried the fish and chips and my wife tried the fried seafood. The fish is not home fried. Looks similar to the one from Costco. Not bad but not what I expected. The fried squid was too cooked and too dark. Fries were also not home cut. Not sure I want to try the burgers.

I love this place because it is better than smokehouse, better than foster freeze, and better than all the crappy fast food places. If you want decent burgers and dogs, your order perfect, and great customer service come here. If you want chili cheese fries without having to ask for American cheese instead of nacho cheese come here. If you want a bowl of chili for less than 10 bucks come here. I was going to keep this place a secret but auntie saved my life today. I am a locksmith and I tripped on some stairs and had my hands full and hit my elbows and I was in real pain. I dont have health insurance so I came here for food therapy and auntie gave me a bag of ice to put on my cut up elbows. I almost cried. Finaly decided to try this place after driving by it for over a decade. Got a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles. Added bacon and mushrooms. Got a side of fries and a regular drink...price was almost 20 bucks...buuuuuuut it was worth every penny! The burger was perfectly topped and tightly wrapped to where every bite i took was evenly distrubuted and caused an orchestra of delicious flavors in my mouth. The thing was huuuge! Flavor is like a hot summer day burger in your backyard flipped on a flame grill. Crinkle cut fries were freshly cooked crispy on the outside soft on the inside. For a second i thought to myself that the amount i payed was too low for what i payed. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff was friendly. Ill definatley be comming back.

Always slapping here at Big Als. Zucchini sticks be on point... Make sure you get the Ranch to dip them in. They keep the ranch extra chill so nice and thick for the zucchini sticks. Grab a shake or a Coca-Cola over the crushed ice. Hits the spot
