This sushi place is definitely worth a visit! The flavors are authentic, and the cleanliness and hygiene standards are excellent. Not only that, but the staff is also friendly, and the service is great! Thank you for a nice dinner :)

Ive been Anaba many times before and always had great service and food. But this time it was the total opposite. I was very disappointed in the service and the food. The older woman server was rude and tried to rush us in ordering our food. All the Sushi rolls we ordered tasted mushy and the fish did not taste fresh.

One of the worst places I have been to as far as service and consideration go. All I ordered was Chicken Teriyaki and it took an hour to come out. The other 3 people in my party were already done, so I went up to the front and told them to cancel my order; to which they replied. “Oh, it’s ready right now, do you want to pack it up to go…..”. Then proceeded to CHARGE me for it!I would have been fine with even an apology or some sort of acknowledgment that it was ridiculous to wait that long for literally Chicken, white rice and Teriyaki while every one else’s plethora of items came out, but to have absolutely ZERO impulse to even attempt to smooth over that fiasco of a meal is the epitome of audaciousness to the NTH degree…..Never again will I eat here……and neither should you….

A significant aspect of dining is feeling valued and respected by the servers and the management. Positive attitude and kindness, a welcoming energy and kind tone go a long way. We spent almost $300 here the other night. Service was sadly very poor. We felt rushed like they wanted us to just eat ‘n go. The waitresses and the manager/or owner were rude and impatient, not warm towards us at all, like we were being a burden to them. The environment felt severely overcrowded, like they’ve maximized every inch of the room. Kudos to the younger staff who were nice. We have decided to never return here again.

We were in Oxnard on vacation and picked Anaba Sushi based on reviews. We were really impressed! The quality of food, the service and the pricing are an amazing value! I ordered chirashi ($24 or so), came in two stacked bowls, good selection of fish and very creative presentation. My wife ordered a bunch of fatty cuts nigiri and liked them all. Sit at the bar and chat with the chef to make it even more fun!

I have really enjoyed going to Ababa Sushi for several years but find it hard to go as my spouse has dietary limitations that make it difficult for her to eat certain dishes. That said we went today as I was craving Japanese food and I was frankly shocked at the female servers attitude. Although we explained that my spouse needed an alternative salad dressing due to an allergy she was unwilling to check if the kitchen had any vinegar and oil. What are the chances that a Japanese kitchen doesnt have sesame oil and rice vinegar? She kept saying that they did not do any substitutions which was fair but then she did not seem willing to work with us on an allergy. Then when I asked for the remainder of my daughters plate to be boxed, she tossed it. On the flip side, everything we ate was delicious except the dessert was a bit lackluster. The salmon teriyaki was very tasty and a good portion and the rice had a bit of black rice mixed in which was fun. The salad and miso soup were ordinary but good and my daughter said the BBQ short ribs were yummy. My spouse enjoyed her edamame and gyoza and I enjoyed my brown rice green tea. The tempura banana green tea dessert was only okay- the bananas tasted a bit green but it had a lovely presentation. In short, great food but dont go if you have dietary limitations. We likely wont be back for a while which is unfortunate as I enjoyed my meal.

They are taking Covid19 precautions by allowing take out only and ordering online is easy. They have the orders ready and placed on a table by the entrance and have a plexiglass guard up front.Soy sauce, wasabi, napkins and chopsticks were provided. The ginger was the real deal not the processes stuff sold in a jar. The cucumber salad was fresh and refreshing.I had a California roll made with real crab. Unfortunately I didn’t like the type of crab they used which ruined the flavor. I think they should specify the type of crab as some have very different flavors that are more earthy like Maryland crab and less ocean seafood-like (think Alaskan).The salmon nigiri was okay but not great. The tuna was a good piece of tuna but wasn’t cut well and was difficult to eat as it was chewy.Although I didn’t love the sushi I appreciated the freshness of it.

There is no doubt that the quality of sushi here is top..... However, I felt the service was second to third....We visited on a Monday evening with a party of 4 plus one child. Our check was $180 plus, and I left an almost $40 tip. Our waitress felt very fake and was not very attentive. She forgot about our appetizer, and only came to check on us one time. So, the service was not great. And yes, I do feel it was because we didnt fit the target demographic. So, no.... We will not be back. And yes, I feel I left too much tip.

We made it in by lunch time on a Saturday so my mom and aunt were able to order a lunch Bento plate. They both got their usual which is Salmon teriyaki. Weve never been here before so I had to check online and make sure they served Salmon Terriyaki. Let me tell you.. Their bento is what earned them the 4 stars. It was a big portion for being lunch but a lot of food is always appreciated with us Asian folks. The mixed tempura it came with was impressive and my mom and aunt both said the salmon was very good. They were very happy. Too bad I forgot to take a picture of that Bento plate lol. Me and my daughter both got special rolls. Mine was the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon roll and it just had an absurd amount of crunch flakes. But brushing aside most of it, the flavor was still good. My daughter had the Dinosaur roll and hers wasnt drowned in any crunch flakes so it was pretty and yummy. She also got a tuna sushi nigiri which came out very red and looking fresh. She said it was good. We also shared the salmon lover roll which was good and got gobbled up quickly. Last but not least, to add to my high cholesterol... I ordered the heart attack because stuffed jalapeños with spicy tuna is my weakness. It was delicious and even my kid who cant eat spicy was able to actually eat a piece. The first time shes ever eaten a jalapeño in her life. That was a joy to witness. Maybe the only reason why I didnt give 5 stars was because how our waitress made me feel. She never smiled and I felt rushed trying to order drinks with her. I just didnt feel welcomed with her. So thats the reason for 4 instead of 5. Otherwise, well be back... I was kind of tired of driving all the way to Kabukis just so my mom can order Salmon Terriyaki so thanks Anaba!

Fishermans sushi, Genami, and Kitanoya are in my opinion, up to par, if not better than Anaba. For what it is, the sushi seems overpriced. The sushi wasnt exactly anything special. The water served is bottled (to collect more income), the miso soup tasted like watered down ocean water, and the service was meh. Sure, the sushi tasted good and seemed fresh, but thats one of the standards in the sushi world.

Anaba Sushi has been our favorite go-to sushi place for over a decade. My uncle is a commercial fisherman and if HE says, its the best, you know it is! Service is great - our favorites are Salmon Lover, Ninja, and Hawaiian rolls.

This place has some serious quality. They staff have a very traditional feeling. The sushi is also great quality. Very fresh fish. The wait can take a long time on a Friday evening. Try to get a window seat facing the water. Very nice environment, close to the beach. Cool outside amphitheater overlooking the water with nice parks and scenery nearby. A+ good job!

Absolutely incredible. The sushi is phenomenal, for both sashimi and rolls. Plenty of baked/fried rolls that arent raw for pickier eaters. And the best part is they offer REAL wasabi!! The food here was really good, I havent been to many places out here, but one of my favorite places for sushi. The Udon they had was also really delicious with a lot of umami. I tried their white jasmine flower tea and it was very hot and relaxing. Overall a really really good experience. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the mood for Japanese food, sushi, or udon. Ill have to try the rest of their menu another time. Depending on where you sit (if youre towards the back of the restaurant) you have a really lovely view of the harbor.

Food is tasty as always. However, the update is for a recent experience. We were missing a $17 roll(Couldnt check before leaving because bags were tied tightly,) Called back when we got home and saw the lack of $17 goodness and after being suggested that I was lying(even after leaving a 20% tip,) the offer for a remake for pickup 30 minutes later wasnt worth it. Cant complain about the food, just caution to people picking up orders to check your food before you leave the store/lot.

Just for credit card user awareness..I dont like it when restaurants skew their tip selection on the Ipad vs the actual bill tipping suggestion. Take a look at your tip suggestions vs the Ipad reading if you pay with card. A lot of restaurants started to this recently. Food is good though.

The food was decent. They had THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! The plates were not removed from the table & the waitress never came to check on our table. We were never asked about refills or if anything else was needed. When we would call for the waitress she would look over and just walk away. When it was time to pay she added her own tip which was not deserved. We were not a party of 8 or more for the tip to be added automatically. I wouldnt go back.

So far its our favorite place to get sushi. Always great quality, exceptional selections. The price seems a little high but you get your moneys worth, the staff really goes out of their way to make you feel welcomed with out bothering you every time they pass by. It tends to get crowded around meal rushes, if youre willing to sit at the bar you can get seated quicker. The sushi here is always as fresh and fun as the atmosphere. Its not only delicious, perfectly priced and inexpensive, but it is also presented beautifully. The view of the harbor through the back windows makes it the perfect for a romantic date. Also, the bonus is that there is a nice walking path afterwards to woke off your meal hand in hand with the beautiful views of the harbor and the ships. I highly recommend Anaba Sushi. ❤💋

I spent perhaps an hour looking at the reviews of sushi places in the Ventura area and finally decided on this place. The main reason I selected this restaurant was that reviews in general stated that service was fast. Its been my experience that prepared sushi is slow in arriving. The other thing of note in the reviews was that the sushi was the best several reviewers had encountered.I have to say that the service was quite fast given I arrived around noon on a weekday. The restaurant was packed and there were four or five chefs on hand. I was seated quickly. Ordered one of their lunch specials which came with meso soup and a side salad. The sushi was good and the California roll was also very good. I cant say it was the best Ive ever had but it was definitely fresh. Recommend.

I would call this a more fancy sushi place. You dont come here for a quick bite. I would say its more group friendly but there is a spot for solo diners. The price is more on the expensive end about 15-25$ a plate. The food is superb! Definitely worth the price and wait. The wait is around 10-15 minutes. I would recommend the mouth watering Teriyaki Salmon. And the delicious Heart Attack.

NOW, I realize things are opening up again and its been a rough year and a half for everyone, but a couple of the waitresses there need to be more courteous and compassionate to someone that is walking in on crutches!!One of them kept telling us to hurry up because she didnt have time for this. The person in our party was on crutches walking to the table for Goodness Sake! We pay a good amount of money just like every other customer that goes there. We are NOT Welfare cases asking for a handout! Word of mouth can either make or break a business so please keep this in mind Anabas. I hope you guys can turn it around. Anaba sushi has been my favorite for a long time until tonight. The service was slow but understandable. We were never checked on and when we were finished eating we waited at least 15 minutes for the bill. The worst part was when the waitress came to our table with a card reader system. Banging it around and not even saying a word to us and she ran the card. After she motioned for me to sign, and I did, she grabbed the device and just turned and walked away. Best katsu ive tried, Udon broth is light and tasteful, Their hawaiian poke beats other poke places at their game, and all our sushi rolls are very tasty. We took a group of 9 to Anaba this evening, and were told the wait would be about an hour. Weve known the food here to justify the wait, and we hung out outside for another large party to leave before we could get a table. The hour came and went, and the party didnt leave. We watched customers come and go, and yet the other group refused to yield the table. We watched them pay their bills and sit and chat and look at their phones. We waited 30 minutes more. One in our party went to talk to the host about a table, since we had waited so long. Another 30 minutes went by. The party was still there.Now, normally you might think this to be a complaint, but its not. The problem is (if you can even really call it one) that the staff here is too nice; too customer focused. The manager came out and apologized to our group. She said she might get a negative review out of them, but they did ask the group to leave. She apologized to us and it was very sincere. We finally got out table about 2 hours after arriving.Ive been to many (80+) sushi joints all over the world. Anaba is my #2 place behind a little gem in Pearl City, HI, and tonight it vied for that #1 spot. Not only will you be hard pressed to find better sushi, but the speed and quality of service at this restaurant are truly second to none, even if its perfect service leads to other less-than-courteous patrons coming in the door.I will be back to Anaba, and I want to thank the staff tonight for their kindness, not only to us, but to the group they (very politely) asked to leave prior to us.If any negative reviews appear around this timeframe from someone who said they were asked to leave, take it with a grain of salt.A parting word of advice: When you patronize this establishment, maybe be mindful that others may want to enjoy their excellent Sushi and great service too!

My husband and I have become regulars at Anaba!! We love sushi and have lived in Oxnard 4 years. Weve tried other places and not only is this the best sushi place in Oxnard it is the best sushi weve ever had anywhere!! The sushi is delicious...every single time! Hot night and the golden tiger are my personal faves! Ooooo...and if youre looking for an appetizer the heart attack is yummy!! I dont understand those that say the service is only ok...my experience from day one has been much more than ok!! Drinks are filled promptly, food is hot and delicious and serviced quickly. The staff is friendly and fun!! And seriously...Amazing service every single time!! If youre celebrating a birthday and happen to be at Anaba, youre going to want Henry to be there!! He adds an extraordinary amount of fun to the birthday techno they play and his spirited energy and enthusiasm is contagious!! All of the wait staff is awesome but Nina treats us especially special when we stop in!! This place has very good food. Great view of the marina out the back window. The only reason Im giving it 3 starts is because of the service. Some of the waiting staff are not very polite. My husband took my son and I to eat at Abana Shushi today to try to get my mind off that my friend passed away this morning, when it came to me ordering my order was wrong, I ordered Philadelphia Rolls and I ask for avocado and cucumber and I meant to say extra, so guess what the waitress brought me 3 orders of cucumber and avocado that’s it no salmon no Philadelphia cheese. My husband felt obligated to keep the order I spoke up no take them back it’s not what I ordered so she wanted us to keep them so they can make more money off my husband no way was I going to let that happen and argument happened to solve the order and guess what they bring me my order of Philadelphia rolls and they were not fresh I can’t believe I ate them just to keep the peace. My husband paid over 80$ today We took a walk around the area and moments later I felt and extremely urge of pain so we walked fast I ended up going back to the restaurant and got really sick. I told them that it has been one of my favorite restaurants in town My husband and had our second date there we made memories to leave with saying “Never again we won’t return . They lost customers. Take this as a lesson in customer service, you need to make sure a customer is ordering what they want and as a waitress if you’re not sure repeat the order. Stratified customers Return unsatisfied customers leave bad reviews .There was no reason why I should have had bad orders Of Philadelphia Rolls are supposed to be with fresh salmon. Shame on this restaurant I will be calling the owner. To complain to just because there was a miss communication they desired to take a vendetta against me. Be careful with restaurants they don’t care about customer service and they still wanted a big tip LOL

The first time I tried Anaba I thought it was the best sushi place there is between Ventura, Oxnard, and Camarillo (or what I like to call the trio Tri-County. . . but every single time I visited after the first time it became one of MANY best sushi places around the area. . . and I have to give it that because service was not professional and not even amateur.I called 5 days ahead of time for a reservation for 4 (knowing the restaurant is pretty popular and might be packed on a Thursday night), they took it down but completely forgot to ask for my information. As they were saying bye I asked them if they needed my information; Oh of course. . .!Then comes the day my party and I arrived. We arrived there a few minutes before our reservation and they tell us it will take an additional 5-10 minutes for our table when I saw a party who just got there seated at a table which could seat four. . . -____________________- EFUIWGUIHGUIOEHJTIOGEAIOJ;!!!! I thought a reservation meant there will be a table reserved for us when we got there.We were seated in the time they promises us (in 10 minutes) and then everything slowly went downhill from there. Ill give you the abridged version of everything after that. . . they gave us another tables rolls, we had to call them several times to refill our drinks, never checked on us, and compared to the very first time I came, the sushi was good, not awesome as I can recall. Maybe it didnt taste so great because I still had a sour taste in my mouth from them mishandling my reservation. =/ I guess if your food is that good then you can give bad service.Overall, DO NOT DO RESERVATIONS and if you dont mind calling a server over and over to your table for one thing or another go to this place. Oh Anaba how I loathe you but somehow I come back because your sushi is good and the price is more than reasonable.
