The brisket in this location was a lot better than some other ones Ive been to in the bay, definitely going back. I remember the prices being a bit more reasonable, it seems like they raised a lot of the options.Friendly service & staff.

We walked uo and placed our order at the register, prior to sitting. Very friendly staff. They were helpful in helping us select, the food was good, the brisket just fell apart. 1 point lost because it doesnt look like they clean the restaurant. The windows had spider webs and dust collected. 2 meals, 1 soup and 1 margarita, $85

Fantastic place! Had the trinity plate and the meat was cooked to perfection. The ribs and brisket were super juicy and super tender. The sausage was the real star though, it exploded with flavour. The barbeque sauce was quite complex too. Really yummy food, a bit expensive, but its hard to find meat cooked this well elsewhere. Would recommend!

Popped in here for a weekday lunch. Dead empty at 1130 on a Tuesday -- for good reason. Virtually nothing under $20. Figured at that price it must be good. WRONG. Tried to cut my tri-tip sandwich in half. Not a chance. So much fat and gristle even my own sharp blade could not penetrate it. A decent journeyman cook could have trimmed the fat/gristle out in two minutes -- but had not. I would have needed a chain saw to cut this sand in half. Should have gone to Dennys for a burger.

I learned of Armadillo Willy’s over 20yrs ago and when I’m in the area, a must.Everything I order is always satisfactory.They had an option of fountain drinks instead of sodas; no longer available.My husband worked in the area (deceased 2009) and sometimes he will surprise me. What a surprise right? Food instead of materialistic things; lol!I love AW!The chicken is seasoned perfectly and juicy.The ribs; moist and flavorful.Ooh, the brisket; its boasting a nice beefy taste and tender chew. It taste like my brother’s (has COPD/Dementia now😔) and its a rare find.The side orders are great! I don’t have any favorites.The cornbread use to be free; understandable? I think its because the city people have learned how to eat BBQ the Texan way; smile!I’m not sure if Armadillo Willy has pound cake (never ordered desserts), but if they do, thats another dish to add to your meal. Mm mm good!Pound cake, potato salad, beans and BBQ combination along with cornbread; wear loose clothing; lol!My opinion, its the best BBQ in Northern California.The prices has risen, as most restaurants, but due to satisfaction and good customer service, its worth it.The meals are succulent treats!Beginning to crave; smile! Too far!I’ve been to San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and Dublin locations, but Los Altos is my favorite.

I ordered the smaller plate version and ended up spending $30…reader does this look like $30 worth of food to you? yes, i ordered the smaller portion of food, but for $30 back in TX i’d get like triple the amount of food. the meat was extremely good but for this amount of money i was a bit disappointed.

Ive been to Armadillo Willys before but this was my first visit to this location. It is a bit tricky to find the parking area due to its location. The food was good with reasonable portions (though I would have liked slightly bigger portions for the sides). Im sure Ill make my way back here in the future.

We were in the mood for BBQ. Pleasantly surprised with the food and service here. Everyone very friendly, food very tasty. Suggest the jalapeno bbq sauce over the standard sauce. Sides are great, bbq tasty and not dry. Root beer amazing. Texas toast on point.

New review after 10+ visits within approximately one year: From 4 stars down to 3 stars.The (high caloric) food quality, the service quality and the price are in a bad relationship. Its self service but the prices indicate full service. I also dont like the too obvious ask for a tip in a self service setting.Recently, they introduced a new payment system. Now you have to disclose your phone number to get a notification when your food is ready to bring picked up at the counter. This is a negative development in my opinion.

A very cool place I want to come back to when I get a meat craving again. The meat was juicy and full of flavor. The BBQ sauce was ok... I wished they had more options to choose from.It was kind of expensive, but its understandable since there is probably plenty of work and time that goes into making these. It was so much food that we didnt finish our platter!! Next time I come I want to bring more friends.

$24 for a big plate of ribs +1 other meat (ordered trip tip). Big for one person, a bit small for 2, so I guess the small plates (which are basically half the size of a hig one) would be only good for children or people of small appetites.They have daily specials that run all day long, worth taking a look.

BBQ is one of my favorite foods. I personally BBQ at home and own a wood smoker pit that i get amazing results from. These guys here at Willys got it just right, smoked brisket sandwich with lite wood flavor was the first thing I tried and it didnt disappointe. I would highly recommend this place for BBQ fans.

I dined at this place based on someones recommendation. c I ordered the small brisket plate with one side (peanut slaw) $19.99. I am not sure how the portion size of the meat is determined, but the portion for the price was very small.I should have ordered the ElJefe sandwich, which comes with 3 protein options, topped with peanut slaw, a bun, and one side for $18.99 ( a lot more food for the price!). I was disappointed. And why did I leave a $3.00 tip ( pressure from that good old electronic credit card tablet the casgier has you sign). You walk up to the cashier to order, and you pick up your food at another counter. I wont be back, unfortunately, unless it is for the El Jefe.

Almost 9pm closing time and this entre Chopped salad to-go was SO good,$9.49 plus $1 (yes that is a solid whole one dollar) extra to sub Juicy Brisket instead of the pulled pork...cmon go for it! Not as juicy/moist as the true Texan brisket from Coopers BBQ yall look it up! However its sure worth the affordable price in this pricey area of $15+ salads that arent always that great.

Excellent BBQ, you can smell the smoke from the parking let behind the building. Good beer selection selection lots of draft beer. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the baked beans are very watery.

Stopped by while visiting from Charlotte, NC. The young man at the register was a delight to engage with. We talked about so many subjects, while I enjoyed their Texas BBQ. My wife absolutely loved the fries . You have to know what type of BBQ youre expecting, to be able to judge the product fairly. Im familiar with all types, and their slow cooked ribs were delicious, a little tight at the bite. The sides were made with care and balance, and Im grateful for how well they attended to some special needs I asked for in preparation for our food.

A good place to get a BBQ. We went there for lunch inside the restaurant. Still need to wear a face mask when ordering. Staff was nice and friendly. Meaty and nice char on the pork ribs. Brisket sandwich was so-so.

In from out of town, wanted something different. It truly came down to the money.I had the combo plate ( ribs, sausage, brisket) my wife had the chicken caesar salad, she said that it was amazing, took some back to the hotel and had seconds. Had a mix of the spicy and regular barbecue sauce was great as well. I would like to talk about my meal the sausage that I had had cheddar cheese in it and jalapenos it was good had just enough spice for it. The ribs were pretty good I mean you really cant go wrong with the ribs had a nice smoke ring on them had to add extra barbecue sauce they were dry. The brisket was pretty good too Ive spent the last couple months in Texas couple weeks in Oklahoma so the brisket was average to what they have out there but, it was a great place to eat I would recommend it. So if youre from the town or your in from out of town stop by give it a try.

I ordered food, 4 slabs of ribs a tray of green salad with dressing for 25 people, and 2 lbs of Tri-tip.. The tri tip was a small handfull of meat!!! My order was $266.00! I paid over 60+ for tri tip.. if i knew it would only be a handful of meat I would of never ordered it!!! It was a waste of money! I WAS NOT HAPPY!! This place used to be so much better. First of all their burger menu shrank to only 4 burgers😒 we ordered 2Hickory burgers and were quite disappointed. Burger Patties were thin and kind of tasteless. Every time I order take out, they forget something. Usually its the sauce, one time it was a side of fries. Today, they forgot the bacon on the bacon cheeseburger that I ordered. Im done. The food is fine, but unless you have time to sit down and eat there, I would skip this place.UPDATE 5/29/2019: I decided the food was good enough to try to order takeout again. Have now ordered 3 times since the original review and they havent forgotten anything, so maybe they have their problems fixed. There are a couple of compelling reasons to order takeout via their website. One is that you can select various options that you might not know about just standing in line at the restaurant. For example, you can get your sandwich *on* Texas Toast, and you can specify that you prefer juicy brisket or lean brisket (or half-half). This is ultimately the reason that I found the second compelling reason to return, which is that their reward program, which the website tracks for you, is pretty generous. I got to the free sandwich in a reasonable number of visits. For these reasons, I am upgrading my score from the original 1 star up to 3 stars. If the score was based solely on the food, itd probably be 4 stars. Definitely recommend the El Jefe sandwich.

Very nice BBQ restaurant. The jalapeno sausage is outstanding. My baby back ribs were ok...little too dry. Tots were good as was the salad. Convenient location with ample parking. Pulled pork was decent. Corn bread muffin was good. Ordering was painful. No line, but no one seemed interested in taking my order. Was finally told to order at the bar. One bartender actively ignored me while on his phone, while other was busy pouring others drinks. Finally, the guy the advised to order at the bar opened the register and took my order. We haven’t been here in several years. We used to love this place. Unfortunately, it seems to have gone downhill. We went there because we were looking forward to their beer batter onion rings. They do not offer those any more. Though the service was ok, my wife’s patty melt was pretty bad. Dry with barely half a hamburger to go between the pieces of bread. Her salad had wilted lettuce. I had a two meat option. The pork was delicious. The baby back ribs were way over done, with very crusty meat. Sad.

So tasty-Ive had this food delivered a few times and their smoked chicken breast sandwich is amazing. Its also the only place Ive ever ordered fries and received them hot and crisp. Way to go Door Dash- but truthfully I think a lot of the success is owed to the person who cooked the food.I havent had the ribs but the pulled pork is also delicious. Im not kidding on the chicken either- every time I take that first bite I am never disappointed. It always has a beautiful smoke ring and stays moist.I do have to say- at home we do a lot of smoked foods, I like our stuff better but I havent found a single restaurant better than Willys for smoked bbq.

Grew up in Los Altos and have fond memories of eating here going back some 30 years. Unfortunately the quality has dropped significantly and is not worth the price any longer. Hadn’t eaten here for maybe a year due to the last order we placed the ribs were charred to a crisp with areas that were inedible (I love burnt ends but this was charred and had horrible flavor). Order the Salt & Pepper Turkey sandwich which was tiny with small shavings of Turkey and a half strip of bacon. Nothing like what it used to be... it hurts having to cross this place off our family’s list of places.

This place is five stars for what it is: great tasting, inexpensive bbq. Its not fancy, its just good. Everyone I dealt with in the restaurant was super nice (I liked it so much that I went twice in one week), and the manager even walked around the tables to make sure everyone was happy. Read that last line again and tell me the last time you had that at a family restaurant? I would have taken photos but I couldnt wait to eat!

Not the best babyback ribs. They were not very juicy, appeared to be smoked, and did not fall off the bones. Ill eat anything, but my wife said these were the worst ribs shes ever had. The French fries & coleslaw were excellent, however. Dont think we will go back.

I am taking this time to write you a review only to help you survive with your business. Today I purchased a burger and onion rings for take out. I was highly disappointed in both items, as the burger was tasteless and the cheese overcooked. Even the lettuce was soaking wet, soft and warm. Worst of all were the onion rings as the onion inside of each ring was tough like leather and was unable to bite through any of them. My family and I have been a customer of yours for the past 17 years and all have noticed the quality of your food vastly deteriorate. We thought that after the fire and remodel that it would improve but it seems to have gotten worst. Sorry to say that we are no longer customers and hope that you will open your eyes to see the problem and correct it. Good luck!

I will preface this with I moved out here from the midwest and smoked my own meats. That said...Ordered the Texas Trinity BBQ Plate. The ribs were good, not fall-off the bone which is a good thing. The bite was great, most (but not all) of the meat pulled off the bone. The rub wasnt overly salty and had a hint of sweetness. I prefer my ribs dry rubbed only, especially when theyre St. Louis style.The brisket however was a bit dry and way, way overpowered by the pepper. TX style BBQ is one thing since its typically just coarse S&P but the pepper was too much. Flavor of the meat was somewhat lost as well. Still tasted good but not amazing.The jalapeño-cheese sausage was awesome. Had just enough heat to it and great flavor.This was my first west coast BBQ experience. I will definitely go in-person to see if the brisket is better at the restaurant instead of delivery.

No more Burgers on the menu!!! Been coming to Willies since mid 90s and they have always made subtle changes for the better but Im probably done visiting for some time. One of my favorites was their Breast of Chicken sandwiches but that was taken off of the menu many years ago. Now they have removed Burgers from the menu. I was told that they dont have burgers in Texas and the owners want the same feel of Texas. Let me tell you that Texas has some of the best Burgers in the nation and we are in California so Im confused. Just sounds like a decision that was not given enough thought. And..if you want the Texas feel then bring back Andouille Sausage... disappointed.

A year ago I would have rated this place much higher. While the ribs are still delicious, the quality of the meat has definitely gone downhill. Prices used to be fair and portions generous, but thats no longer true. They seem to be trying to turn into more of a BBQ-themed restaurant instead of the excellent BBQ joint they had been. My favorite thing here is definitely the fries. I actually kept driving by from time to time wondering when they would reopen after the place was closed for a little while. The way you order food has a fast food feel, but actually waiting for your food makes it feel like more of a restaurant. The atmosphere is fantastic.

I gave this one star in order to be able to write a review. It does not deserve even that one star! At one time, armadillo willies was a decent place to eat. After tonight, I will never go there again. Seven of us went to celebrate my grandsons birthday. We had all finished by the time his hamburger arrived, and that only after we had to ask for it. Nobody was satisfied with the meal, but my grandsons comment was right on the spot: Grandpa, the raw onion tasted better than the hamburger.

Used to go here once a week. Now we rarely go. Front staff is very nice but food is always wrong. Ordered medium rare burgers and tater tots. Burger was literally bleeding raw and tots were like potato chips. Cook allowed this to be served as well as lady who we gave our sensor too. I would have taken one look at this and told chef to remake. Not once in 30 times dining there have I ever seen a manager walk by and ask how are food was because if he did I’d let him know what’s wrong. Too bad because we used to go here all the time

A Texans review of Texas-inspired BBQ. I generally liked the food. The Texas pork ribs were pretty good, Id eat then again. I got the moist/wet brisket as well, but it left something to be desired. It wasnt as flavorful as I had hoped, but it was as fatty as youd expect and was almost like chopped brisket. The spicy peanut slaw was pretty good, too, although I think I would have preferred there not be peanuts in it. I know BBQ is highly subjective and depends on where youre from, Im from San Antonio, TX, and compared it to most places there. Honestly, its about like Bill Millers, Willys pork ribs are better, but Bill Millers wins the brisket race. Their slaws are too different to compare (vinegary vs creamy), and I didnt care for the tea. I prefer plain straight brewed black tea.

Now that Dickeys is gone this is pretty much the only BBQ near my apartment. Food is really good though prices are a bit higher than Id want to pay. This isnt really a place Id go to by myself but it is one of the best for going with a group of people. Hickory bbq burger is a great choice.

Fathers Day 2020 was a disaster for Armadillo Willys. They didnt have enough food or staff, and everyone was expecting things to be just fine, but it wasnt. Fortunately, 2021 more than made up for it. Everything was great, and the only thing I can guess is that the meat was just top quality, and there was a ton of effort put into getting ready for the day that was so difficult last year.

You order your stuff at a counter, thats not really service but works fine. You can have additional sauces and the meat is marvelous. This is a great BBQ place - weve been going there every couple of weeks for about 8 years, and weve been consistently happy with the food, service/management, and relaxing ambiance. The turkey and beef brisket are excellent, as are the sides (peanut slaw, beans, tater tots, fries, salad). My wife really likes the ribs. The griddled burgers are exceptionally good burgers - try one and you wont be disappointed. The original, spicy, and chipotle honey sauces are all fantastic.Its a casual, relaxed environment (great for families and groups) and they buzz you when your food is ready for pick up at the counter - so no need to tip!In that overall positive context, I have a few minor suggestions for improvement: 1) They discontinued their 5 stars loyalty program many months ago (including declining to redeem rewards their customers had already earned), promising to replace it. That replacement hasnt happened and I hope it does soon. 2) They should do a pulled chicken BBQ. I believe that had something like this in the past, but discontinued it. 3) They should bring back (maybe reformulate) their mustard-based BBQ sauce 4) Less meat in the baked beans.

Nothing goes right. I placed a pickup order from home, and arrived at 5pm. It is clear within minutes that either a majority of the staff are having their first day, or simply do not care about providing adequate service.I waited about 20 minutes for my food to be ready (5:20 pm), and during this time, I watched the staff fill orders. On occasion, when one server needed a particular side and it wasnt available from the kitchen, they would take it off of one of the assembled trays from someone elses order.I leave at 5:35pm, having overpaid for rather stingy servings of cold, unappetizing barbecue, served from what I assume could pass for the DMV being shelled by artillery during WW2. I hope they figure their business out, but I wont test it with my money.
