We went here for dinner. We got seated immediately on a weekend. We ordered the ghee dosa, combo tiffin 1 and combo tiffin 2. The ghee dosa was great and so were the tiffins. The tiffins came in different combinations and were tasty too.The only thing that was missing for me was spice. All dishes - sambar, chutneys - were missing spice. But the good part is that kids will not have any problems here.

If youre interested in authentic South Indian vegetarian fare youll leave this place very happy. As you enter the place brings in the smells of a restaurant in Chennai. My litmus test for a good South Indian restaurant is their ability to make good coconut chutney. This was one of the best chutneys I have had in the US and I cant count more the 2 others in the US. On their Thali, every item tasted delicious. That is very rare too. Kudos to the chef for making this memorable and thanks to the wait staff for their attention.The ordering process is chaotic and I hope they will iron this out. The place has some storage containers and boxes giving you a feel of eating in a warehouse but I guess that will get better too.On my next visit, I found the food quality getting even better. The ordering process is still chaotic. They make up for that with reasonable and attentive service.

I heard a lot about Arusuvai Virunthu about food and was able to try out dinner.My experience was mixed. Customer service was pathetic. The ordering system is not managed well. I stood in line for around 20 minutes and reached the counter, and while enquiring about dishes, I was harshly asked to order asap and clear the line. Since I was a new customer, I had no clue about dishes.Went ahead and ordered with a not so happy mood, but when food arrived, it lightened the effect the person at counter provided.Good food, but not a great experience.

We ordered idly, ven pongal, bisibellebath, tiffin combo (idly, mini dosa, vada). I didn’t like that quantities were small, especially in pongal order. Half of the container was empty. Disappointed! Kesari sweet was may be a tablespoon size. LolllIdlies (3 per order) tasted good with ginger chutney and coconut chutney. Sambar was good. Ven pongal would have been good if the dal or something didn’t feel like old stock. Taste was ok though. I found same stale smell in vada too.

Fantastic food. Kara masala Dosa was biiiiig and crispy. Masala vada was crunchy and idli was really soft. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Mango lassi also wasnt sour like some other restaurants. Would keep coming.

Great food. It was recommended by my friends who been here few times. I used to drive it to Sunnyvale for south Indian food but Im glad that I found one close to my residence. Tried their Thali, dosa and appetizers. It was excellent and their chutney were phenomenal. Thick and tasty unlike other restaurants weve been to. This restaurant deserves multiple visits. Service were great too.

Tried kal dosa, kara masala dosa, paneer 65, and filter coffee. Dosas were very sour. Chutneys were stale. paneer 65 was stinky. They didn’t use good quality oil to fry it. Coffee was decent. Highly overrated and overpriced place with not so good quality food.

This is a very nice South Indian restaurant started five months ago in Pleasanton. We ordered medhu vada and masala vada for appetizer, filter coffee and mango lassi for beverage, poori kurma, kara masala dosa and rava Dosa for mains. The food was really tasty especially the condiments on the side. The sambhar was one of the best that I have tasted here. The mint chutney and onion chutney also was really tasty. I requested the filter coffee to be strong and it was strong and served in the steel cup and saucer. The people were really kind and polite and provided is with extra servings of Sambhar chutney. Overall I am glad to have found nice south Indian restaurant nearby.

Tried to go couple of times the food is good, have tried idli pongal upma and Bisibelle bath all are good and tasty . Just a small complain the quantity of chutneys is too less, you get same amount of chutney if u order one or two orders of idlis which is disappointing. Food tastes really good here. Felt like authentic south Indian meals. There are so many curry varieties for lunch and price is reasonable. Service is also good and near.Ample parking in front and it has lots of stores like Walmart and other restaurants nearby.

Food here was excellent. My 8 year old son loves their Cheese Dosa and Paneer Tikka Masala. Everything tastes great and service is quick. We have gone now two weeks in a row cause my son cant stop talking about it. Normally we are not Vegetarian, but when in the mood for some good Dosas, this is now our place to go. Was also very impressed with the Pineapple Kesari this last time, very light and tasted sweet and yummy. Picture is of the Kara Masala Dosa and a nice variety of chutneys and sambar.

WOW! This is some of the best dosa, idli, sambar, pakora Ive had in a LONG time. What a gem this place is! The food and hospitality are excellent. Everyone is very kind and caring here.I have been here a couple of times with family and weve been SOOO impressed everytime. My friend and I went on a weekday evening to try their Thali and Dosa and loved the food. It was authentic Tamilian food - well prepared and good variety. I also liked that they use real plates and utensils and not paper plates/ disposables. Be aware that they are closed on Mondays. I made the mistake of going on a Monday and was disappointed that they were closed. I plan to visit often when I want my fix of South Indian food ( Idli, Vada, dosa, thali and various rice preparations).

Two dishes disappointing - for this 3 star rating ☹️.Gobi Manchurian: Florets were big, more oily, and a bit sticky.Pongal: it was stale. May be prepared in the morning or before early afternoon - we went for dinner and it was smelly.Rest dishes: thali, filter coffee, Spring Dosa were good. Other Dosas: Paneer etc were also good.The place seems popular and regular visitors could be many (from the way the man at counter was greeting customers). They should rake care of few things like what I mentioned above.Service speed is OK. They have child seats as well (for those in need). I felt tables and seats are bit cramped. You stretch your arm: watch out, it may poke your neighbors elbow.

If you want great South Indian food, heres where you should go. I love their Rava Dosa, which is really the bar you want to evaluate for their expertise in making a Dosa. Their sambar and coconut chutney are pretty good. Update: They have an amazing Onion chutney. Both the Sambar and the onion chutneys were bomb! The Rava Dosa had enough black pepper to satisfy most folks cravings. We keep going here! 😺

We went to Arusuvai as a group of 7 for Diwali 2024. They served Diwali lunch wedding style. Nadaswaram music made it quite festive. Felt like we were in Chennai again. Food was wonderful, sambar, vethakpzhambu, paruppu vadai yumm. Could have used some poriyal vegetables. I can understand w the high prices of vegetables tightening somewhere! One of the most authentic South Indian restaurant you will find in all of the Bay Area. Their medu vadai with their super delicious Sambar is to die for. The service from the owner and staff is excellent despite the busy traffic during weekends. Besides their vadai, I would also recommend their dosas; my favorite is their spring dosa. Next time, I plan to try their traditional South Indian meals.

So, picture this: We walk in, and theres this friendly person (probably the boss) at the counter, dishing out suggestions like a pro. We went with his flow and ordered Combo 2 and the Lunch Thali – turns out, he knows his stuff!Now, Ive got a thing about South Indian joints – their chutneys need to be on point. And let me tell ya, the coconut chutney here had me all smiles. It clung onto that fresh vibe and burst of flavors even though lunchtime was peeking around the corner. Thali time! Its the classic deal – rice, and you get to pick chapati or poori. Plus, the usual suspects like Sambar, poriyal, chana curry, rasam, kesari (sweet treat), yogurt, and pappadam. Perhaps it was not microwaved idlis - but idli did not seem fresh by any means. I know what a good idli is and what a good idli is not.3. Cold vegetables - this was true. The Vazhaikai sabzi given was cold.4. Furniture in disrepair. The Booths seats were torn.5. Helpless yet polite staff. Staff admitted that they were short on staff.

We had ordered rava dosa and it was pathetic for the following reasons:1. I think they ran out of batter because the dosa was so crispy that we just had it like chips - no soft element at all! REVIEW CHANGE : I would usually get food toGo from here, and I can’t lie on how delicious it was. I was a reoccurring customer. Few days back my family and I decided to dine in and order. It was the WORST experience I had dinning in. The welcoming part was good, and we were told to be seated all the way in the back which was no big deal. Keep in mind that I’ve never been in the back or ever dinned in here until few days back. The back is utterly so dirty. The bathroom, and I got a glimpse of the kitchen and it was just so disgusting. I didn’t have my appetite to eat anymore. The seats were ripped, the floors weren’t swept. The custom service was the absolute worst. It had been 20 minutes and our food hadn’t come out. I started realizing that people who came after us were getting their food first. The COOK comes up to our table and asks us what we ordered…. Really? We have waited 20 minutes and another what? 10 minutes to make a simple dosa and idli order? Im furious at this point, and I kindly told him to cancel the order and give us a refund. He responded with “Why?” What do you mean why? But No. he forced us to take the food and packed it to go. This place is money hungry; doesn’t care about customers

Does not appeal to my pallate!For background, I grew up in the south of India. Always enjoy southern cusine and would drive long distances for good food.The food here is mediocre at best. We had rava dosa, ghee dosa and idli. Sambar was heavy on tomato, no other taste and there was not remotely fresh. The dosas were far from okay. The chatnis were half decent.If only they could focus on a few items and serve fresh and hone in the skills to do that, it would be a success. Under the new management, the offerings here are delectable- especially the South Indian affair.The Sambar and the coconut chutney remind me of a long forgotten taste and aroma. My litmus test has been the vada Sambar. I must’ve ordered that twice and the chef did impress! The plain dosa, Masala dosa, idli Sambar, Rawa dosa were up next and they did not disappoint either!I recall our first time at AV few months ago - love anything hot & spicy- we went all out with the veg corn soup, the tomato soup, chilly paneer, baby corn Manchurian and the channa bhatura. Everything was such a treat because it was hot and spicy which suited our palate.Our experience with the same offerings the next time could not be just the same but it wasn’t sub par either. I understand not everyone prefers their food hot and spicy which is why they might have turned the heat down on our favorites which we didn’t quite know at the time we placed our order. We assumed the food to be exactly what we had experienced the first time. I’ll be sure to mention our likings the next time we visit.It’s a decent place for a nice South Indian affair if staring at ornate walls & decor is not your jam. Our servers have been very courteous, friendly & patient with us. They could run busy on few occasions. My rating is 4.5 star for this place (I couldn’t figure out a way to give that, that’s why I gave 5 star).I went there with my girlfriend and our kid, we got idly, three types of dosa (vegetable, podi and paneer), and coffee. All of the dishes were pretty tasty, freshly made and tasted authentic. Given it serves only authentic South Indian dishes, I think this place does a very good job. The only complaint I have is regarding the cleanliness of the restroom, and regarding the restaurant name itself. If the restaurant needs a wider reach, they should have a more easy to pronounce name, as I couldn’t figure out a way to remember their name (and I am from India !!!).

This place has the worst service, this is not the first time we are going to this restaurant. Last time we went and ordered meals and it was late we have to wait atleast 30 mins in our table on top of that Thali comes with poori or chapathi. Next one in the menu they said meal will have cabbage, that is an another bummer we got cauliflower finally which my wife completely hate. The chilli idly turned out to be sweet, felt like they just mixed some sweet sauce with idly and served it. I felt the spice for next 24 hours! so recommend to reduce spice on that item. Overall, all items had higher salt serving as well, so ask for reduced salt if you are sensitive to it. We have ordered takeout many times and they have always messed up our order, sometimes no chutney, sometimes no idli etc. today was extreme, we ordered food at 1:30pm were asked to pick in 30 minutes. Food wasn’t ready even at 2:30pm. And our whole order was messed. We placed and order for 2 quantity of tiffin combo 1 (idli, vada, mini uttappa, pongal and sweet) and 1 mini idly with 2 coffee.
