Its sadly the only Asian market in the area, but it does a good job of having essentials (particularly korean) and some fun other things. Wish we could have an H mart in town but this is a good option if you need essentials and dont want to drive to LA. Supporting a family fun business too!

Ive been shopping here for almost 40 years now and Im so happy to see the same owners when I visit the store. They have everything I like from Korean, Japanese and Chinese foods and snacks that I grew up appreciating.
I love coming into this store just for the vibe. They also have a selection of Asian food and kitchenware that has saved me untold trips into LA. Best deal on kimchi I have found anywhere!

This place is my go to when I miss Japan. Lots of things available here if you are trying to cook Japanese. Limited fresh veggies, but they have fresh Napa cabbage and bean sprouts all the time. Lots of sauce, spice, and Japanese beer available here. Asahi, and Sapporo.

What a treasure hidden !!!! I have passed by this place often but never went in finally went in and YES!!!! Very good Japanese food products and saki . Even flavored saki ( strawberry) . They very much carry most Asian food recipes. Frozen seafood tuna, salmon, squid and octopus. The packed fillet fish doesnt have a label what kind of fish so you have to ask. Also carry a few varieties of Japanese beer and sake .
I visited the market today with my husband and I am certainly glad he was there, otherwise I would have gone CRAZY buying too many of the fabulous things for sale!!! The owners were so nice and very helpful. They even directed me to their fresh noodles thereby saving me from the inevitable torture of attempting my own. Very well stocked. This is a jewel in downtown Oxnard.
This place has been in business for decades (probably 60+) with a few owners over the years. One of the few places in Ventura County that has a decent selection of Japanese food/ingredients. Good to see they are still in business. Would hate to have to go to LA everytime we run out of stuff.
A very small home town Asian market. With many Japanese products. It is nice to see a unique stores that is still around. Owners are extremely nice and helpful. Mask 😷 are required to enter this business, which makes me feel safe and reassuring for protection. Please Support your small local businesses in your community.
We l9ve thus little market. They always have great snacks and a variety of sauces, noodles, tea and seaweed. If youre looking for a large market, this is not your place. The owners/employees are always so nice .
It has all the foods you miss from Japan, Korea, and/or China. They also have lovely bowls and sets for sale. The prices are quite reasonable. I recommend the red bean buns. It remains an institution thats worth the trip. Everything for a binge watch snack spread or a complete family meal.

My go to Japanese grocery in Oxnard. They have most of the items you need for your Asian lunch/dinner menu. They have very friendly, helpful, nice staff/owners. They also sell some Korean and Chinese products. I get excited whenever I go to this store.

I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed this place before! Been coming here since 2012, and I can honestly say this is the best Asian Market in Ventura county. The owners are very friendly and very helpful. They have all things needed to make delicious Korean food. They even have 단무지 for the Gimbap. If they don’t have something in stock that you can find at the Korean market in LA they are also willing to stock it for you if it’s possible for them to order it. This place is fantastic!

I just love this ancient, 1 stop shop for ALL my Asian cooking needs. From Sashimi grade Tuna and Salmon to sauces, seasonings and beautiful bowls to put it in, its all here. Super friendly and helpful owners/staff as well.

Its also a great place to pick up pandemic supplies and PP&E safely.Observe the signs, like masks required as you enter this spic and span market.After you enter, theres sale posters on the walls, frozen and refrigerated items to your rear and right. Tea, condiments, jams and compote to you left, and a few isles if household essentials, as well as Japanese, Korean, and other Asian staples and culinary delights.I filled a basket with some super affordable spices, oils, dried mushrooms, mochi, laver,The husband and wife who run the store gave me thoughtful advice, and a free box, with tenderly handwrapped up purchases in recycled newsprint, so nothing would break. I shopped here since i was a little baby my family loves it and the korean couple who owns the place are always polite. No other place can beat this store when it comes to asian snacks and drinks. They also are advertising korean lessons for their church which i took and was amazing. :)
Lots of good food, good prices. Very nice people. Lots of parking. Huge selection of noodles and soba. They make really good kimchi here too. Authentic kimchi that is restaurant quality, not like the bland, overly carbonated kimchi they sell at vons. We get a gig jar! Super good for you.
This is the best local Japanese market for your basics. Small selection of everything but a little in the high side throughout. But its okay cause it saves me a trip to LA. Totally worth it. Tons of ramen, mochi and my favorite Japanese and other Asian snacks. Sooooooooo fun to try new chips with funky flavors. Must check out if you are adventurous eater..

This market is amazing!! They have such a wide variety of different products and at decent prices. Frozen meat cuts, alcohol, candy... You name it, they probably have it.
Although the name is Japanese, this store also has food products from Korea, China and some other Asian countries.The owners are Korean so shoppers can find or get Korean food products that they would have to go to Los Angeles to find.
I love when they have cute tabu, and their lovely whats items. But this is my main go to shop for Asian foods. Great price on tea, rice and snacks!

Funky little Asian market in the heart of old town Oxnard. We went to find some ingredients for Korean food and found many of them there: drid seaweed, kimchee, sesame oil, noodles, rice flour, many types of chili peppers. However, no fresh veggies. Some Asian pears, and other fruit. Very nice owners, very helpful. I will be going back often.

Nice people and plenty of parking, bought Saki, eel sauce, duck sauce, shrimp, and pork pot stickers, and pre rolled spring rolls and a small bottle of dry Saki for under $31 really helpful owners!!
Small neat market that stocks a huge variety of mostly Japanese food, some Korean such as fresh-made kimchi, and kitchen and giftware. Prices are generally lower than at big market chain stores. Great shopping experience!
Only place you can get Japanese & Korean items you actually need for 50miles. Other places (Island Market) defiantly dont have it.

10/10 asian snacks and some amazing bread a whole lot of unique things in terms of snacks we cant find anywhere else, and the best sushi rice for cooking we can find at a good cheap price.

Great Korean market! You can get things that are hard to find in Oxnard like Gim (Nori/Laver), Danmuji (Pickled Radish), Gochugaru, Gochujang, Doenjang, Japchae noodles (potato starch), etc... I highly recommend!

2023-06-18 03:05:37Their Rice prices is increasing every month. Their 15lbs brown rice price is increased. It was only $26 mid 2022. Increaed to $31 last December 2022, increased again to $34 last February, 2023 and now its $37.99 as of June 13, 2023. Expect it before the end of this year, it will increase to $50

2023-08-09 22:20:51I have been going to this market for a few years, their the closest place that stocks my favorite kimchi. I went to the market recently and noticed that there’s new ownership. The store is definitely moved around, but it seems that they are adding more items to their inventory, but some things are no longer stocked. I just hope they keep stocking Japanese and Korean produce like they did in the past.

2023-08-04 11:22:39Apparently under new ownership. Still a unique food shopping experience. Ive been going for nearly 47 years and will miss the originals (that I know of). The new folks are very professional and accommodating, I met a few yesterday. Just when I was working on my Asian dialects, I must now buckle down on my Arabic. All in fun as their English is perfect! They had the Chow Fun rice noodles I used to purchase at Fu Wa, but sadly they are gone along with many others. Happy cooking!

2022-05-22 21:01:15My husband loves the flavor of Yuzu, and adding hot sauce to his dishes. Several months ago, I surprised my husband by purchasing a bottle and tube of Yuzu flavored sauces. (Both previously unknown to both of us. His reaction? Hes thrilled absolutely LOVES it! Since then, hes purchased several of both since then for himself, and to give as part of a gift bag.Were very excited to discover more of the variety of flavors offered at Asahi Market! Prices are completely reasonable.It was a breeze to locate on Oxnard Boulevard. Nearby landmarks are: Golden Chicken Inn, a gas station, and a former movie theater. Parking is easy, and located directly behind the market. :)

2023-06-02 13:19:13Owners retiring and new owners coming in this month June 2023. Lets wait and see their upkeep with stock and special orders. Previous owners have done a great job and even done large orders for me in the past. Lately with ownership transition some items are out of stock. I hope they keep their stock well diverse for eastern countries as they have.

2023-10-07 02:57:03This store has recently changed ownership- The owner also has Santa Cruz Market in Ventura Midtown. So hes experienced and has updated the store mentioned in other reviews. Some Lebanese/ Middle Eastern items are sold in the back corner (which used to see housewares, home goods)One thing I want to comment is on the items available, newer items etc.They have really increased the amounts of sauces, condiments which are necessary for specific Asian dishes. This store is one of the few to have the Huong Foy (Green Rooster) Sriracha sauce. Stock up while still available.Edited update:Instant noodles-- They are boosting up on Buldak Fire noodles. You can always get individuals of these at 99 store to try flavors. They have Chapaghetti Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles). I did see Neoguri ramen Nongshim brand. and now I saw a variety of Sapporo Ichiban.I wish they would bring Bibigo for frozen dumpling and other items. They are the most popular Korean brand- also sold in Costco, Target and Winco.Instant noodles-- seem to be less brands variety-

2020-02-06 21:52:53Great selection of Japanese products and groceries. I love the roasted eel! Its very hard to find so I bought more than a dozen of them. They have all of my favorite ramen noodles including Curry style. Definitely will be back for more supplies.
