I wish I could give half-stars -- consider this a 4.5-star review -- this is a great community market with a cozy atmosphere, kind and friendly staff, and a selection of product in stock that excels in categories like produce, cooking ingredients, and dairy (I love me some cheese!) but, depending on your needs, you may not be able to find what youre looking for in some cases. Supporting a local small business is well worth it, though. Excellent selection of drinks as well; not necessarily alcohol, but for those who enjoy beer or wine, Im sure youll be satisfied too.

Stopped in to try the sushi/poke bowl and ordered the combo. It was delicious!!! Surprisingly, it wasnt outrageously over priced and the serving was more than generous. As for the food itself - it was fresh seafood and the avacados were perfect. Ill be back there next month for another poke bowl.

What a sweet little neighborhood market tweaking itself into a viable store. The flower and plant section is growing and blooming. The fresh baguettes and bakery items from local vendors is a reason to make a quick stop. Wine, sweets, organic produce, and many convenience items can be found here. And then, theres the poke bar to grab to-go food! Please support your local family grocery store!

Nice market with a deli and 2 count them 2 restaurants inside as well as a flower shop. Pretty cool if you ask me. As I walked around I found that they had a big selection of beer and wine.They have a Deli inside the store stacked with meats.

Great local grocery store with lots of excellent quality yogurts, ice cream, teas, produce, and grains. The owner curates the selection really well, and weve often found fancy beverages and cheeses that wed never seen before that end up becoming staples (like yuzu soda and nutty ice cream bars).

Last Oct, I started to find Uji Time ice cream here in ava. The great thing in this location is they rotate the flavors, as Uji Time has more than 20 Asian inspired fusion flavors.Each month I visit I can find new flavors to try.

My favorite local market. You should check out their local in-season produce. In each season they have delightful selections of fruits, vegetables and other seasonal items. For example, their cherries / peaches in early summer and pomegranates / pears in autumn are amazing. And last but not least, people there are super friendly and nice.

Dont miss the deli items near the till- the samosas are amazing. Id love to see them open up the chicken/beer eatery it looks like they used to have in the corner!

I regularly buy and enjoy the mangoes at AVAs, and would like to buy more products there, but inventory management is an issue. They run out of items and it seems like a long delay before that product repopulates a shelf. Take Santa Cruz organic concord grape juice, as an example. Id love to buy it at AVAs, since they carry it, but it seems like their most popular of about 30 juice varieties, and it always seems to be OUT OF STOCK, forcing me to buy this grape juice, or an alternative, elsewhere., It seems like they should notice there are 30 juices and one runs out of stock FIRST every single week, leaving an empty useless section of the shelf. Why not change the amount bought when re-buying this type? The recent purchase I made a month ago gives them the freedom to over-stock. Buying a jar in September 2020, the jar-top best used by date is June, 2022 - almost 2 years ahead. They should not worry at all about having too much inventory and over-extending beyond the best used by date. This seems to be their top-selling juice and would never last that long. Please team, read this review and make changes! This grape juice never seems to go out of stock at WHOLE FOODS or NOB HILL, but why give them the advantage of my purchase dollars. I would prefer to see AVAs stay in business and to receive these shopping dollars!Sincerely, Steve, a regular AVAs shopper (multiple times per week for mangoes and Strauss Creamery organic milk, and if it were possible, Santa Cruz organic concord grape juice. )

Expensive but high quality!! I mainly come here for fresh bread, coffee beans, and produce. They have beans from a few local specialty roasters - Ubuntu is my favorite. There is a huge variety of produce and Ive always found what I was looking for. There is also a nice variety of cheese and beer. One aisle even has cleaning products, which is great and a little surprising for such a small store!

This is one of the very few local grocery stores in the area that is family run. The owner is always there to help or share a nice word.Their products are well selected and good quality while affordable. They carry products you’ll have a hard time finding elsewhere.This remains my favorite place over any other for fresh good bread, fresh vegetables, fruits...cheese, wine, a variety of meats and so much more; this place has a soul!Do yourself a favor, take a pick and shop there. Family run small grocery store with an amazingly good selection of foods considering its size. Friendly staff. Very good quality produce including organic. With the Mill Pail Market having recently gone out of business, Avas Downtown Market & Deli is one of the only family-run grocery stores left in Mountain View--and its awesome! Aside from their $5 minimum policy for credit card transactions, I do not have any complaints. It has great variety (domestic and foreign), and lot of healthy/organic options. The prices are reasonable as well, even their location is the center Mountain Views downtown district must cost them a fortune in rent!Show your support for local businesses and shop here instead of at those chain stores, like Safeway and WholeFoods. Dont let this place shut down like the Milk Pail Market!

This is a reliable little store for the basics. They have a decent Asian section too, considering the size of the store. Most of the folks who work there are very nice except for one very rude teenager who hasnt seemed to learn any grocery store customer service skills. But generally if you have a question or need, the other staff members are more than willing to help. As of January 2018, their meat section is being renovated.

Its not all that obvious when walking by, but Juan & his staff curate an excellent stock of beautiful ORGANIC produce, interesting condiments (many specialty mustards for instance), beverages, and many tasty & healthy everyday food choices. Once I recognized what a treasure this place is, Ive done most of my grocery shopping at Avas. A really nice perk, because Avas is smaller, it takes me much less time to shop there. & because its not surrounded by massive parking lots, its a nice friendly destination to walk or bike too.

Wonderful neighborhood grocery. The staff are unfailingly helpful and friendly, including the owner Juan who always has a smile for our family. The store is small but thoughtfully stocked and we always find what we need. They have a good selection of local, natural, and organic products as well, including meat and produce. They have even special-ordered meats for us that they dont regularly stock.

I love this place. One of the few local grocery stores that are privately owned and where the owner cares greatly about his customers needs. The products seem to be carefully selected. Theyve been the owners of the market at this location for 6 or 7 months now. Since theyve taken over, theyve made some great changes. First, the smell of the store that they inherited has significantly improved. That was the biggest deterrent to shopping here before. Theyve greatly improved the food selection and plan to continue in the near future by adding a full-service deli and making space for even more product variety where they currently have the giant produce section.The prices here are a little higher than youd see at Safeway, but they have plenty of gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian-type stuff. The also have an excellent beer selection.

The deli sandwiches are very good. The meat counter is top notch. One of the few places you can get a (relatively) fresh sour dough baguette in town.The Poke Bar is great for dinner, incredibly crowded at lunch now that its caught on.Theres also a great beer bottle selection in this market, though they wont let you drink the bottles in the restaurant. The taps are decent.Im not sure how affiliated the restaurant is with the market. The restaurant has a full breakfast menu, making them a rarity in Mountain View.

They have all most healthy products available in Bay Area - acme bread made from organic ingredients, with yeast-free options, Straus milk in glass bottles without any synthetic vitamins added, and many others. This place is quite a bit pricey (prepared and grocery items), but what do you expect for being right in the heart of downtown Mountain View, one of the most expensive places to live in the country?On the other hand, you find things here you cannot find anywhere else and the selection is great. Great selection of produce/grocery needs and higher end ingredients when you need something in a pinch. They carry bread from Acme Bread. They also have a solid selection of baby food/supplies. Theyve held onto their selection of Spanish-centric packaged foods (e.g. anchovy-stuffed olives, canned fish, chorizo, etc.) Prices arent cheap, but are exactly what Id expect from a local grocery in a high-traffic location. I miss their breakfast/sandwich counter (currently closed/remodeling); the food was pretty good.

I shop Avas as much as possible since I can walk there and I am so grateful to have a downtown market. They have specialty items like grass fed meats (grass fed lamb is locally raised as opposed to imported from Australia like at Whole Foods), raw milk, goat ice cream. Juan will do what he can to stock specific items that I need. There are two restaurants inside the store: Avas Omelette house and deli (they actually have good hot lunch meals too) and the Poke Bar (I am not interested in trying that).

Friendly neighborhood grocer that carries lots of local and unique products and tries to carry a lot of organic, fair trade, sustainably farmed, recycled, and natural products. Its not just an indoor farmers market- they have toiletries and other staple pantry items as well. Food at the deli is delish and there is also a pretty awesome selection of craft beer hiding in the back corner, as well as eggs and milk from my favorite farms in Petaluma.

I couldnt possibly live without Avas Market. Wonderful selection. Cool and friendly people. Its been my main market for more than a year. (I park in the 60-minute parking on the ground level of the parking garage next door.) Avas is on Castro, in downtown Mountain View. The new owners took over at the beginning of 2012, and have steadily been improving the market ever since. They stock fresh Marin Sun Farms beef, lamb and pork (and they do special orders); they have Strauss Family Farms milk in gallon jugs, as well as organic produce and eggs. On weekends they sell Mariannes ice cream (from Santa Cruz) in cones (they sell pints all weel). Every week they have new products, and new improvements. They take care to get to know their customers, and welcome suggestions.

First time trying out this market, after eating at Maruichi. They seem to have a lot of different/non-mainstream items. Not sure how the pricing is cause we bought stuff we dont normally buy. We ended up getting pocky for $1.99 each, popcorner for $2.29, and doghead fish beer for $12.99. There was only 1 checkout open, but not too many customers so we didnt have to wait long. They do not take American express credit card. Otherwise, not sure what to think of it cause this is my first time at a mom and pop market.
