The food is amazing, they also give you a very generous portion, we ordered the salad and jerk Goat. Both dishes were great. I definitely will come back.

Had been wanting to try back a yard after being recommended it by SO many people and was NOT disappointed at all! what a gem. tried the oxtail plate and jerk chicken plate and both were insane. the oxtail was so tender, and the sauce was so rich and savory, it went perfectly with the rice (i do wish the oxtails were a liiitle bigger but they were not offensively small haha). jerk chicken was maybe a Tad (JUST a tad) on the drier side BUT the flavor and the sauce made up for it easily. the fried plantains were delicious as well. everything was very reasonably priced as well!! overall, it was a delicious meal—i need to come back here ASAP!

I used to love this place when I was first introduced last year. However, quality of the food and sometimes service has been the literal definition of hit or miss. I think they cook the oxtails really well according to my partner. However, when it comes to the vegetarian/vegan plates they drop the ball when it comes to cooking the vegetables thoroughly, I’ve had to recook my vegetables when I get home a few times. This time I asked for them to cook the vegetables more and unfortunately they seemed to simply cut the tofu and through it in without seasoning it. So once again, I had to come home and recook my food. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of cooking staff changes or what but food quality has definitely gone down. It’s disappointing since I like to support Black Owned Business especially in the Bay Area. I hope that management seems this review and makes the necessary changes so nobody has to experience what I have.

Weve finally had an opportunity to try their food and it was amazing! The oxtail, pork and chicken was so tender with so much flavor. The fried plantains were so delicious. Would have been great, if they offered a small bucket of them with our meals. Definitely be back to try the rest of their menu!

Nice aesthetic of the interior with beautiful colors all around. My party entered with zero people in the restaurant around 3pm, so we were able to take our time in deciding since it was our first time. We ordered the BBQ pork spare ribs and BBQ chicken and ribs combo with sides of fries, coleslaw, and cornbread.Both meals were good portions of meat with flavorful sauce. Tender, juicy, and overall good. The cornbread was a nice dry side that complemented the taste of the ribs. If I had a side of rice, this meal would have been perfect! Would come again!

So I just moved to campbell from MA and was missing my local Ali’s roti and flames for my good Caribbean food. Stumbled upon this while looking for apts and I knew I had to live here. I’ve been in ca for 2 weeks and have already been here 4 times lol. I tried different things each time and all have been amazing. Oxtail, goat, festival bread and plantains are bussin. I got the jerk pork yard bowl today. Also amazing. Although I’m gonna need like 6 more sauces because it’s sooooo good 😂. Get the mango habanero hot sauce. It’s homeade and fantastic. Lunch isn’t complete with a ting! Yum!

Theee Best Caribbean food in my hometown. This restaurant is loved by the community. Great Service Great Food, Great Atmosphere. Enjoy lunch or dinner. Dine in or try take out orders. Their Food is Cooked to Perfection and tastes very much like a home cooked meal. Theyve been around for years and they also have delicious desserts and a few special drinks. They also do catering for events. They prepared catered foods for my nieces 30th birthday party in Oakland near the lake. You cant go wrong if you choose to try them out for yourselves. The plantains are my favorite. 😋😋😋

Amazing food at a reasonable price! The jerk chicken was the highlight, perfectly cooked and moist. The oxtails are very fatty but also tenderDownside: the restaurant was out of knives, so I had to use two forks for cutting into the meat. I’m stunned, honestly. The 5 stars here is given under the assumption that they have learned from their mistakes and will plan ahead next time.

We are done with this place. Absolute kudos to the food... each time we eat there, and it has been a few times over the recent years, we are amazed by the food quality and taste. Everything in each of the last couple of instances has been top notch.But the service and staff, including the kitchen staff, are the reasons we will not be returning. On our most recent visit, we ordered catering to be ready @ 11:30 [they open at 11:30]. Arriving at 11:45, and after waiting for another catering order to be filled the person in charge claimed they did not have our order and challenged me to show my order. I had to reach out to my partner to forward me the order via email as we had split up to complete last minute errands for my birthday party. By the time the email arrived the same individual had found the order.I add the fact that there was another catering order filled to point out that catering was being processed prior to opening.Instead of focusing the kitchen on executing the catering, $250 worth of catering, and getting that out ahead of walk-ins, the person in charge allowed them to finish what seemed a leisurely pace and filled several orders such that our it will be ready in five minutes turned into 25 minutes. When I asked for additional takeout containers in case our guests wanted to take some home... I was told they would have to charge for it.This is not the first instance of poor service; weve had the staff hang up on us and even the signage in-store is quite off putting.Great food. Terrible service, and a lack of understanding of how to recover from problems.

Good basically tasty, but plating needs attention. My pork sandwich had several lumps 2 by 3 ... good for plate lunch, but very bad to serve as a sandwich.Cashier gal and order packing guy both friendly and helpful.Ordering system needs *drastic* overhaul/replacement. Apparently no button for plain, cashier had to use on screen keyboard to type in instructions for me order. Took several minutes to basically say plain, add cheese.Very large and interesting menu, Jamaican BBQ based.They have Ting! soft drink!Delivery of orders slow. Mine sat on counter by cook for 2 minutes.Order slip confusing, had two small numbers:Order 4868, tag 6So...........my order # was 6.Ok... 6?!?!Get rid of one of those numbers, and make the actual number you will call *BIG**.We will try again. Omg, I am addicted to their food. The Jerk Salmon and candied plantains. Thats what I call them they are so yummy. Jerk chicken and pork are next on my list. Get a side of the jerk sauce its worth it. I have been to both the Campbell store and the Menlo park store. Um-Mai! Not a date spot but great for group lunches or dinner.

I always come here for their curried goat plate!! I have been here a couple times and I always go for it. I dont see it on their menu in the restaurant, but I do see it on other menu pics.It is so good!! Comes with rice and plantains. It is very savory, so Im glad there are plantations to balance it out. It definitely has that gamey taste and smell, so dont eat around people who dont like it lol. I also get the corn festivals (fry bread) on the side to sop up the curry. The only thing to be wary about are the amount of bones.Ive also gotten their mango passion fruit drink as well. It is so sweet!! Maybe others like it, but I definitely add water to it if I can.Their portions are huge. I can never finish my plate, and always have enough leftovers for lunch. My friend has gotten other plates here as well, can never finish!One thing about this location is that has a very take-out vibe. You come in and order. There are not many people sitting at the tables. When your order is ready, they call out your order and have it in take out boxes in a plastic bag. Plastic utensils are already in the bag as well. You clean up and throw your trash by yourself.Parking isnt super plentiful, it shares a small parking lot with other stores.

Great Caribbean food. Order jerked chicken and oxtail, and fried corn bread. Jerked chicken was hot and juicy. The jerk sauce is to die for. It was spicy but flavorful. The oxtail was nice and tender. Had it with the jerk sauce which made it even better. Fried cornbread reminds be of Vietnamese fried bread. Nice and chewy with a hint of sweetness. The food here is awesome. My favorite is the jerk pork. The sauce that comes with it is incredible! The fried plantains and rice with beans are a good compliment for the spicy jerk pork.The ginger beer (non alcoholic) is very gingery. Dont expect ginger ale. It is a lot more intense. The ginger hits you hard and burns in a good way. I enjoyed it, but you have to really love ginger to like it.I would love to give it 5 stars but the dining area just isnt up for that. It is clean and set up ok but feels more like they just have tables for you to sit and eat your take out order. All our orders were served in take out containers with plastic utensils.I would give this place 5 stars for a takeout place but can only give 4 stars overall because of the dining experience. The food is incredible but the dining area is just a little lacking.

Very disappointed. The East San Jose restaurant was really good, gives good portions and has a better menu. This one gives small portions, the food is not cooked right, and they have hardly any options. I took some friends there yesterday to try Jamaican food for the first time and they were disappointed as was I. Horrible way for them to be introduced to Jamaican cuisine for the first time. Smh. Not to mention the table was wobbly and sticky.

By far the best food of all their locations to date. Ive been to them all! The taste, temp, portion, and appearance was excellent. Stumbled onto the Campbell location via a Mercury News article when doing a search on Google for a phone number on a different location. Such a pleasant surprise and a welcoming location with parking. Will be back for sure! So happy to find this convenient location.

For the BackAYard its always five star! With one exception from my last visit. I always spend money like anyone that comes to through the door to eat right! My last visit was by far the worst I have ever had there period, meaning I have never had a bad experience there. The manager acted like she did not have time to deal with customers requests! Just bad customer service and rude! Its ok I am good and I do know the owner from his shopping at Restaurant Depot ( I will take time out of my day to relay my very bad customer experience ). So I will say go to Capital Expressway BackAYard to just have a better customer experience and great food!

The hard vegetables were exactly - too hard, not fully cooked. I had to spit them out as I ate. And they described it as pumpkin chicken soup. Could not see or taste the pumpkin. Chicken was all white meat. So chicken flavor was mild. Just being truthful. Will go back when feeling better to try something else… maybe.

So...the rib plate used to be my favorite. I have tried other meals as well...but NOW...its oxtail dinner! Everyday if I could afford it. I LOVE this meal. Meat is tender and the sauce!!!! First time I tried Back A Yard Caribbean restaurant on Winchester in Campbell was today. I ordered the meal combination of ox tail, plantains, and rice. The ox tail was fantastic, especially the wonderfully flavored sauce in which it was cooked. The plantains were good. The rice was ordinary rice.The one thing I did not care for was that the meal was served all in plastic – plastic plate, plastic utensils, and plastic cup. I wish that the owner/manager would switch to re-usable utensils and plates. Otherwise the plastic just goes either to the dump or it ends up in the ocean somehow. Is it asking too much for Back A Yard to do what is best for Mother Nature?Customers order at the cashier/counter and an employee brings the meal to the table. There are plenty of indoor tables, maybe 18 in all. There were no outdoor tables.There is free, sufficient street-level parking in front.

The woman taking orders this evening via phone in orders did not have the best attitude but whatever.One thing that I was shocked and annoyed about was the fact I bought FOUR jerk chicken plates, they all had the jerk sauce the chicken was cooked in but not on the side. I asked for a side of jerk sauce for each order and was charged for it (and it comes in a tiny container) I mean, even McDonalds gives you free BBQ sauce when you order nuggets hahaBut overall amazing food :-)

I picked up jerk white chicken yard bowl few times from Campbell location and every time the chicken is hard, not tender at all, hard to chew and didnt look freshly made. I love the jerk chicken and its oxtail, but if you are used to authentic Jamaican jerk chicken, you might be disappointed, but it still tastes great.If you order curry goat, you wont be disappointed. Overall food is excellent, but jerk sauces are a bit different if you are used to your Jamaican girlfriends jerk chicken:)

I LOVE the food at the BackAYard restaurants. Always so good. Ill still give a 5 star rating even though my last experience there was a little disappointing, but it can be easily fixed.It wouldnt have been an issue before COVID. But now, precautions require face masks for staff. However, the last time I was there, the person packing our to-go bag was not wearing her mask (the rest of the staff was wearing theirs). The counter is high, and so when my corn festival bag came out, the open end was only a few inches from her face for more than a few seconds before it was then moved to my to-go bag.I asked for a replacement bag, which they gave with no issues (thank you). But, the person still wasnt wearing one by the time I left.Food is awesome, as always. Service is friendly, as always. I only ask to please remind the staff to wear their masks. Thank you.

Just like the original Menlo Park location, the jerk chicken is tender and moist. The rice and beans are delicious with a hint of coconut flavor. The plantains are my favorite. The sauce really compliments the chicken and I could eat that all day. I also tried oxtail and it is really delicious, rich, and fall off the bone tender. Backayard has expanded to several locations, which is great, because I dont have to go too far to enjoy my Caribbean food fix. Oh.. and they cater too which is awesome to share the love.

Everything we’ve order here is delicious! Definitely the closest to food in Jamaica I’ve come across in California (can’t say all of the US only because there is some bomb Jamaican food in NY). Jerk chicken and pork, curry goat, oxtail, ackee & salt fish, all great! The sides are all solid as well - rice & peas are nice and coconut-y, plaintain is always cooked well and the greens are good. I slept on the patties for a long time, and that was a mistake, nice spicy kick and really good flaky tender shell. Oh and the festival, YUM!! (“fried cornbread”)My ONLY complaint, is there quality control is slightly off at times, missing a jerk sauce or plantain, which can be sad, so just wish this didn’t happen, but definitely not major enough to make me stop coming (or knock off a star).

I have eaten at the location downtown. The food is good. The options and service is a let down though. I wanted to order a standard plate, but I wanted to swap the rice for vegetables. They said it couldnt be done?? Not sure how or why they cant make the swap, but something like that should be an easy modification for any restaurant to accommodate. They wanted me to order 3 separate items to make something similar to the plate with veggies instead of rice?

I guess they dont want my return business. I work right around the corner, I would have liked to come back frequently.

Its an understatement to say I love Caribbean food, and this has always been one of my favorite places to eat.This was my 1st time at this location. I ordered the curry goat and oxtail combo. They forgot the curry goat, and when I notified them, it was taken care of.My friend and I ate in the restaurant, and I joked that all Jamaican restaurants must be the same. Same tables and chairs etc. The atmosphere is casual and very comfortable and includes a traditional reggae music mix. The restaurant was empty, with the exception of a mother and her son and us.The oxtail was a bit on the salty side but still delicious.I recommend this place not just as a favorite but also as a place to enjoy Jamaican culture away from the island.Take family and hang out with friends and enjoy good food and music.
