My partner & I were craving Vietnamese food a few days ago and decided to try this place for an early dinner. Ben Tre is authentic, from the family who owns and operates it to the food that is served there. My partner is first generation Vietnamese and values a truly authentic dining experience. But our overall experience was mixed, with both highlights and lowlights.We ordered #12 Muc Chien Don (Crispy Salted Pepper Calamari), #29 Bun Rieu (Tomato Crab & Pork Vermicelli Soup), and #64 Bo Luc Lac (Shaking Beef).Though we had ordered the calamari as an appetizer, it was the Bon Rieu that came out first, and quickly. When asked if we should still expect the calamari appetizer, the waiter said yes. You could tell he had been asked that question many times before as he went on to explain that soups like Bun Rieu were prepared ahead of time and come out faster.The disappointing dishes: My partner had ordered the Bun Rieu, one of his favorite dishes, because it received so many compliments in online reviews. He said that it was ok, but lacked flavor. And the lowlight among the dishes was the calamari. Rather than being crispy as the menu described, these were very lightly-battered longer strips of rubbery calamari served on a thin bed of what looked like chopped iceberg lettuce with salted, peppered, and very lightly sauteed green bell peppers, onions, and julienne carrots. And this $13.50 appetizer was served with no sauce. At the end of the meal the waiter noticed that we had hardly touched the calamari, and he seemed surprised when we declined the offer to box it up for us.The clear highlight of the meal was the shaking beef, starring as described very tender cubes of filet mignon sauteed with garlic, bell pepper, and onion, served with the garlic noodle option, and all topped with cilantro. I have ordered Bo Luc Lac at nearly a dozen restaurants over the years, and this was one of my favorites. I was glad the portion was family sized because the leftovers also ate well the next day.

Haven’t been here since pre pandemic. Not close by anymore. Forgot how yummy all the food is! Had the catfish stew and asked them to add pho and it was the perfect combination of sweet and sour. I have enough for my next meal. Service is super fast! Have to make my way back more often.

I went to Ben Tre yesterday and sat on the outside patio for afternoon lunch. I ordered an appetizer and main dish knowing that I was going to bring some of the food back home with me. My meal included the Ben Tre appetizer combo and the two meat (5 spice chicken and pork) with garlic noodles. Overall, the meal tasted great! The meat was tender, had good flavor, and large portion for noodles. Clean & well-lit. A little chilly sometimes with all the doors & windows always open. You kinda forget about that when the food comes. Chicken was perfectly cooked & flavor was on point. Going back ASAP for the yellow rice clay pot. One of the best Ive ever had. Service is fast & friendly. Prices are reasonable. You may have to wait for a table, but its worth it.

A nice assortment of Vietnamese standards, vegetarian options and plates rarely seen at pho restaurants.#2 Fresh Spring Rolls (shrimp) had a refreshingly nice hint of mint, #4 Ben Tre Roll unique — essentially bun wrapped in rice paper, a fun-textured, crunchy, bbq-y treat.The Canh Chua Ca (hot sweet and sour catfish soup) was exactly as described with fresh additions of bean sprouts, pineapple and tamarind. A great cure for a hangover.Pho is big portioned, with perfectly-cooked rice noodles and generous amount of assorted meat.While prices are a bit high, servings are big and easily shareable.

Weve been coming here for years. Food has been consistently great and always hits the spot. Portions are generous and dishes priced well. We recommend the deluxe pho, fresh tofu rolls, s&p fish with garlic noodles, banh xeo, and 5 spice chicken with yellow rice. Service is great and fast. They can get busy during peak hours.

Wow.I had the 5 season chicken and it was SO GOOD.One of the things that I love about going to big cities like San Francisco is that you get a true test of other cultures. This restaurant is no different and the food is delicious. I always look for the restaurants that locals go to, and even beyond that if it is a culturally specific restaurant, I look for the restaurants that have majority of the people of the same culture of which food the restaurant is serving.This one definitely fell within those guidelines.Service was extremely fast for how busy they were. We had to wait about five minutes for a seat and yet when we ordered our food it was out within another 5 to 8 minutes. Service was extremely fast as well.I highly recommend this restaurant. If you are phô lover, the bone broth here is excellent.

Indoor dining 4/2/2021. An update. Today we had the Bo Tai Chanh (Vietnamese Beef Carpaccio) $13, three item rice platter $13 and the shrimp garlic noodles $15. Food is still awesome here.******Indoor dining tonight 3/8/2021. There were seven tables for indoor dining and three for outdoor dining. The wait was about 15 minutes at 6:30pm for an indoor table. 3/4 of the tables were removed because of Covid. Ben Tre is always a solid option for pho. Ive been coming here since they were at the last location a few years ago down by the gas station next to the Korean restaurant. Too bad the waiter that used to work at Tart To Tart on Irving no longer works here. He was a familiar face and a great waiter. For their #15 - Pho Ben Tre Dac Biet, I really love how the broth tastes here. Not too heavy and with the right amount of clarity. It comes with generous portions of basil, beef pieces, cilantro, jalapeno, meat balls, sprouts and tendons . Good job Ben Tre. The beef pho was delicious tonight.

One of my favorite Vietnamese spots, they are a small chain and have 3 different locations on the peninsula.This location is currently doing indoor and outdoor dining. Restrooms are open! The only downside of this location I think is the parking is not great, metered parking.Everything I get here is pretty good, I’ve gotten a lot of the different noodle soups, rice plates, and appetizers. If Im ordering takeout, I just call ahead and they are pretty fast with getting the orders ready.

My wife had the rice with porkchop. Dry dry dry..... Rice was dry and so was the porkchop. I had the pho with the 5 spice chicken. Supposedly their specialty chicken. Nothing says wow about this chicken. I was still working on finishing my chicken when the waiter attempted to throw away my dish so we can hurry up and leave due to customers waiting. Overall meh place, wont be returning or recommending.

The food are delicious, looking amazing when delivered on the table.Roasted chicken is really crispy&tasty! But Phos soup is not hot enough, can be hotter. Cold Vietnamese is good to try too. Ive been coming to Ben Tre a few times now. This is one of my favorite pho restaurants in the bay area. The service is quick and friendly, and theyll have your meal out in no time. The pho itself is very delicious. The broth is warm and comforting while the noodles are always fresh. I highly recommend also ordering their chicken, it is absolutely amazing!

We came here for some good pho and we got good pho. We ordered the 5 spice chicken pho and chicken spring rolls. The spring rolls were a little bland but fresh. The pho was very delicious though! Huge portions, I have leftovers, and the seasoning is on point.The green tea is also lovely, especially since we sat outside and it was a typical SF day.The service is very quick and helpful. Really good choice.

I’m into it. I’d been to their original location at the end of Grand Ave more than a dozen times, but had rarely patroned this updated location. With more tables and space, it invites for more opportunities to ignored by the wait staff. Despite other reviews, our waiter was pretty attentive. Came by quickly and often enough.As for the food. Even better than I last remembered. We ordered the crispy fish spring roll to start. Delish. The fish was fresh and crispy. The greens gave it a nice punch. And the fish sauce/peanut sauce dipping options were on point. My mom ordered the typical pho #1 combo bowl, which was also spilling over in meats. Like they stuff that thing! And for my main, I ordered the hot and sour catfish soup (comes with a side of rice), and man was that soup massive. Perfect amounts of tang. And delish catfish.Tbh I’ve been to their Gao location in SM and was greatly underwhelmed by their lack of pescatarian or vegetarian options. At this location, however, it’s filledddd with options to choose from. Haven’t been here for a lunch in a while. But dinner crowd was busy, but no wait on a Thursday night at 6:30pm. That’s a win in my book. Will definitely be back soon. 4 stars.

This is a little Vietnamese spot. The food is middle of the road and it seems to always be hustle and bustle. The service was a little slow, but overall everyone was nice.I got the sampler plate and a vermicelli bowl. I do like pho, but I wanted a mixture of items and I love vermicelli bowls.The sampler comes with: deep fried shrimp, meat balls, shrimp spring rolls, deep fried rolls, and pork on the bone. Honestly the only item that was any good was the shrimp spring rolls, everything else was a wash.The vermicelli bowl was a standard bowl. The meat was prepared acceptably, but similar to the sampler it was just a middle grade bowl. It was nothing Id write to home about.As someone who loves Vietnamese food I will say due to the flavors of the food this restaurant isnt on my top picks for Vietnamese. If youre in the area and really wanting Vietnamese stop in, otherwise try some of the other options. I cannot speak for the Pho as I did not have any.

I come here semi-regularly, roughly once a month.the service here is quick and consistent. The servers arent overtly friendly but are not rude either. Very straight forward, takes your order and brings out your food. This place is also very consistent with all of their dishes. Their pho is average, its good but nothing special. Would recommend if youre itching for a quick bite to eat or want some solid comfort food.

Ive gone here a few times, but never got more than their pho or rice plates. The restaurant is pretty big, with a lot of seating, including outside.While it can get really busy, Ive never had to wait a long time. Their pho and rice is good, but this time, we finally tried their other foods.We ordered the imperial rolls (fried, not spring rolls), banh xeo, bbq pork, and tofu. The imperial rolls are always a safe bet and tasted really good. I have always wanted to try banh xeo and finally did. I really liked the crispy part. It has a lot of bean sprouts, but had only a little bit of meat. We ate it with the lettuce. We got the bbq pork a la cart, and it went really well with the banh xeo. The tofu looked like a lot, but it was mainly onions and bell peppers. I liked that the tofu didnt have a sweet and sour type sauce on it. The tofu tasted really good.Ben Tre is definitely our new go-to place for viet food. I really like that they have more than just pho and rice plates. We saw a lot of people ordering their claypots too. I would love to go and try their other foods.

Always consistent. Pho is always good, always piping hot, lots of meat. Broth is delicious with a balance of spices. Not one spice over powers the next.Today we got the combo appetizer with cane shrimp, coconut shrimp, grilled meatballs, fried egg roll, and fresh spring roll with a side of vermicelli. We also had an order of grilled pork bun. Grilled pork is sweet and savory, very succulent leaving you wanting more. The pho, got too excited and started to eat before snapping the picture.

Ben Tre is my go to vietnamese restaurant when Im on grand avenue.Most entrees cost between $10 and $20, and all the authentic flavors I crave are here. They are locally famous now so it can get very crowded especially around dinner time or on the weekends.My go to is always the 5 spice chicken Pho special which satisfies my pho craving while including the great BBQ flavor of the 5 spice chicken!The mi quang at Ben Tre is a great option if youre looking for something different. The turmeric gives the soup a unique flavor.Another option for a change of pace is the Bun Bo Hue, it offers larger noodles than pho and has a unique peppery spice to it that can be habit forming.I really appreciate that they still serve their Vietnamese ice coffee from a french press, which is the best authentic way to serve it in my opinion.My only real complaint, Parking is annoyingly painful around this area. Still worth it for a good bowl of Pho.

First time here and saw everyone literally ordered the 5-spice chicken dish. It looks good so we decided to try Garlic Noodles & 5-spice Chicken. It was super delicious. The chicken was cooked just right and still so juicy and flavorful. We also got Bun Rieu which, was yummy as well. Its covid right now so outdoor seating, plastic silverware, and disposable cups. I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Vietnamese restaurant that is popular for its garlic noodles, and I was really impressed by the quality of the food and the friendly staff.The garlic noodles were absolutely delicious and had a great balance of flavors. December 2022 THE FAMILY RECIPE STILL INTACT 👍On this winter day I crave for some Vietnamese food and as usual find comfort with the BBQ Pork Chop and Rice at Bến Tre. The meat was well seasoned and fresh tasting, hot from the grill. It made this ‘meat minimizer’ enjoy every single bite. I don’t know how the caramelized sauce was made—with sugar? honey? coconut water? Or all combined? But it gave such a balance of sweetness, saltiness, and spices. And when the sauce was heated on the grill, the charred meat smelled so inviting. The meat portion was generous when the price was still just average. I’m afraid I did a disservice to myself if more of you customers out there know that this is THE best Vietnamese restaurant in this part of the Bay. Oh well, it’s really worth the waiting in line. Thank you Bến Tre for the great tasting Vietnamese dishes and for the energetic and friendly staff that really made me come back to your restaurant time after time. If you ever think that my comments are rather subjective, you’re completely right. Super solid pho. I had the five spice chicken pho and it was DELICIOUS!! imperial rolls were super crispy. The egg pancake thing had yummy fillings. Rest of the dishes were all strong! New location is much cleaner and more sanitary. Definitely worth the travel time to try this place out. It was perfect for a rainy night.

Came here when dining out was still an option. Ordered #15 Dat Biet (rare beef et al.) and shrimp rolls. The mint, bean sprouts and lime were prewrapped in saran wrap. Sauces were in plastic containers. Every order came with its own separate condiments. Both dishes were delicious! I would say the pho is better than Kevins Noodle House in Sunset! Would definitely come back for more!

😻Back at it again at my favorite Vietnamese Restaurant in the bay. Ben Tre gots the best pho combination! Pho Ben Tre Dac Biet (Ben Tre Delux Noodle Soup). Fight me on it 🔥🍜🔥Lines can be long at 12pm and 6pm, so plan accordingly. There are street parking further up or on a Sunday we usually just park at the parking structure around the corner for freeWe got the combination appetizer and it had so many goodies. Yes it cost more than a pho bowl but it’s food! Ya gotta splurge 8). We got nuoc mum and peanut sauce to use for dipping. We received two shrimp spring rolls, two shrimp skewers, four yummy Vietnamese grilled pork meatballs, two imperial rolls, sugarcane and crispy shrimp, vermicelli, and lettuce. Totally recommend if you balling!Their vermicelli bowl is one of my go to also! But that will be for an updated review. Thanks.

I had ordered the number 15 I believe. The tendons were a bit hard and the noodles tasted like it didnt soak up much flavor of the broth still a bit hard. The broth didnt taste as flavorful, we had also ordered the pork meatballs which were ok. They tasted almost like longanisa, a sweet sausage in Filipino cuisine. The parking in the area may be hard to find and its also metered. One dollar got an hour and 15 minutes out of it. The service was quick, double check your cup before drinking. My cup had lipstick on it and the staff apologized and switched it out for me.

Incredibly delicious! The pho was perfection and the prices phenomenal! I ordered the pho with brisket and rare flank. My husband had the pork vermicelli bowl with an egg roll. The restaurant was casual with some larger tables to accommodate slightly larger groups and offered a small amount of outdoor seating.

Love love this place. This is best Vietnamese restaurant so far I have been that has amazing pho broth around SF, Daly City, & South SF area. Bun Rieu (Tomato Crab broth), five spice roasted chicken thigh with either garlic noodle or pho, & beef tendon/ball are my favorite. I always order either one of those dishes when stop by. Super affordable price as well. 2 bowls of pho plus tax probably cost you a round $22 - $25 before tip. The five spice roasted chicken thigh with pho is $12 ish. Services are great as this is family owned restaurant. Seating is fast except weekend & dinner time but waiting time no more than 20 minutes. The restaurant has other authentic vietnamese dishes as well which I never ordered but they smell good & aromatic. If you want a bowl of hot & flavorful pho or to try authentic vietnamese dishes but Orange County & San Jose are too far away from you & you live close by South SF, give this restaurant a try. You will be hooked. Parking is easy as well.

Good food, big portions. Got 5 spice chicken with garlic noodles. The chicken was a bit sweet/caramelized. The noodles despite having several visible chunks of garlic didnt taste much like garlic. So it wasnt quite seasoned to my taste, but I will come back to try different things. Pho was good too, beef was better, meat balls were too chewy.Service was lightening fast, there were 4 people running around efficiently serving like 80 people, cleaning, and doing take out / cash register. Part of the fun was just watching them run around! 🏃‍♀️

I asked to use their restroom and went through a wrong door and found the KITCHEN* to be FILTHY and took few quick photos. There was food, utensils and GARBAGE all in the same area where your FOOD is prepared and cooked. I left immediately after seeing there sanitary practices I couldnt do it. Fast service but pho was bland. I get the impression this restaurant is not very clean. There were visible debris on the floor. I had to ensure my utilizes where clean by taking a napkin to wipe them over. The same employees cleaning the tables, served my food and they did not wear gloves. The food wasn’t so amazing that I will come back.

This is one of those go-to Pho restaurants that are pretty consistent. The service was quick and 6 tables ahead of me took about 10 mins. Food was brought out in around 5 mins so thats pretty efficient like other pho restaurants. I ordered the pho ga but the chicken was dry and thickly cut so it wasnt really easy to eat. The broth was bland without chicken flavor and just salty. I would recommend Turtle Tower if youre into pho ga. The beef stew was tender and overall flavorful with the carrots. The prices kept going up and the portion looks like it got smaller. I get everything is inflated now but ~$25 for a bowl of pho after tips and tax is sad to see when its supposed to be comfort food.

Excellent food! Ive eaten there a few times, I really like it. This time we got food to go and went home and realized one of our orders was missing. We had to go back to get it and they wanted to charge me. I asked if I could get some of the charge taken off. The older women, probably the owner got angry. Because of the language barrier Im not sure if it was towards us or not. It was very awkward/uncomfortable! They did give us the order at no charge like I feel they should have. Not a vegetarian friendly place. Beside the vegetarian dishes being tasteless and overpriced, I found a piece of meat in my tofu dish and some noodle mixed with the rice. I placed a large order for 20 people and confirmed the pickup time with them 2 times (1 day before, and 1 hour before). Both times they assured me it would be ready. A great experience overall! We were choosing between three restaurants to have dinner, all three were side by side. What sold us right away on Ben Tre was how busy they were compared to the others. Its been over a year since Ive been there, but Ben Tre is as delicious as ever. Now that vaccinations are rolling out and Yellow Tier is setting us free, I hosted an out of town family member. She remembered Ben Tre from her previous visit and was hoping I remembered the place with the garlic 🧄 noodles.. As if I could forget. Food & Service A+ as usual, 50% capacity was well observed, and staff was properly masked. The doors were open and it felt well ventilated. I loved the food here, but it’s a shame I have to give 3 stars for terrible service. We never received an item we ordered, but they charged us for it anyways. I got the 5 Spice Chicken with yellow rice and it was good. This was my first time trying the yellow rice. It was good, but I think I still prefer steamed Jasmine rice. Coming back from an afternoon flight from Las Vegas, we were hungry, and wanted something to bring our bodies back into balance after spending a lot of our energy on the trip coupled with reduced hours of sleep, so we decided on Pho, which is a vietnamese soup. Normally, wed go close to our house in SF, however, our brother-in-law suggested Ben Tré since it was close to SFO. I ordered the Pho Tai, which is noodle soup with slices of rare steak. When judging the quality of the soup, Id try the broth without condiments such as hoisin sauce, Sriracha sauce, lime, bean sprouts, basil, and cilantro. I must say, the broth was really good! I enjoyed it both with and without the condiments. The service was good. It has both indoor and outdoor seating, and the location is on Grand Avenue, which features many small businesses. They seated me outside as it was just myself and big guy asked if I wanted any tea, of course I took it cause it was cold AF that evening. Ive spent a lot of my time exploring SF and East Bays pho options but rarely make it down to South San Francisco.. anyways, was down here finally and my friends always recommended I stop at Ben Tres and try their pho. To start, I had the pho bo special, which is hard to go wrong with.. the bowl was a fantastic size for the price and the broth was out of their world savory. They gave me an extra cut of lime too which I used up in order to really bring out the citrus pairings. Everything was cooked to perfection. I would say if you can avoid the lunch crowd, it would be best to do so. This place filled up to the brim and unfortunately I found myself caught in the middle of it. Not ten minutes after receiving my food, I was already being given the bill. The service could be a bit better but Fridays are one of their busiest times. You dont need a reservation and wait times are typically not very long. I would recommend eating here.

This is one of my favorite spots in my SSF neighborhood. My go to item is the five spice chicken pho. So good and comforting! Reasonably priced too, as Vietnamese food usually is. Very quick service, can order and eat a great meal within 30 mins.

You San Franciscans are spoiled! This place would kill it on the East Coast. I almost went with my standard fair...Beef Pho. At the last minute I decided on garlic noodles with lemongrass beef and shrimp. So dang good! My only “complaint” is that I didn’t have an endless supply of garlic noodle to sop up that incredible lemongrass infused beef and shrimp. I could have used a bit more spice. I would have appreciated a bit more heat. Not quite Thai hot but certainly a level that would have me reaching for a sip or two of San Fran Chardonnay.

Always on the lookout for a great Vietnamese comfort food (pho, bun and BBQ). This place definitely delivers. Their grilled meats come fresh off the grill,hot and charred tasting! Portions are big. We ordered the very popular #31 (Bun Thit, Tom & Cha Gio) and #36A (Rice plate - Thit, Canh Ga & Cha Gio). Very tasty and flavorful. Prices are reasonable for what you get.Service is quick and friendly. There is always a wait, but its fast because the tables turn quickly. Not only Ben Tre serve pho and bun, but they also serve claypot, entrees, extensive vegetarian menu. Has outdoor seating (great for doggy mommies like me). Metered street parking.Note: This Ben Tre location will be closing in September and moving to its new, bigger location up the street on Grand Ave (@Maple). Ordered Bun Bo Hue and Imperial Rolls. BBH was OK broth was a little on the bland side. Imperial rolls were also just OK, lacked in flavor. The service here is SLOW, a hostess seats you then water is brought to you by one of the bus boys(which i never seen them wash their hands after they clear/clean a table) and then you wait until the waiter/waitress assigned to that area comes to take your order(which in my opinion has no sense of urgency and just lala gags). Then thats the last and only time you see them until you need your check because the bus boys bring out your order to your table. So i iust tipped the bus boys directly and none for the waiter. But guess i would say if youre in a pinch then sure stop by but honestly just walk down the street theres many other retuarants that will tempt and satisfy your taste buds.

Been Tre is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the bay area. Their pho beef stock is delicious and is a perfect balance of flavors. Many pho joints will use salt to compensate for inferior stock but not here. The five spice chicken is also excellent and when served with garlic noodles, perfect for someone who doesnt love soup. My current favorite is bun rieu (pork, crab and tomato noodle soup).

Food: Every few months, I go to SSF for a workshop and Ben Tre is my go to for lunch. I usually get the pho or bun (vermicelli noodle) with pork and eggroll. Pretty disappointed, this is my girlfriends favorite vietnamese place, she asked if they serve ban mi (my favorite) got lectured on how they dont make sandwiches. I dont like Pho so I ordered #42 which is described as stir fry vegetables with your choice of meat. I chose chicken. Well apparently they dont like to heat up the wok, got a plate of boiled bok choi and 150 grams of knife sliced barbeque chicken that looked like it had been reheated in the microwave. Sitting in a pool of water. Stir fry by its very essence of creation doesnt allow for pools of water on your plate. Boiled vegetables do. I might be a white guy with a slightly sensitive palate but after spending two weeks in Vietnam this year I have a pretty good sense of when Im being scammed. No mention that they were unable to do stir fry, or that the kitchen was just too lazy to make it. Message received guys, Im never coming back here again. Enjoy your precious Pho. $45 down the drain. Never again.
