2023-11-22 20:18:38Okay, so Im posting this review really just because Im disappointed, not at the store but at the guy in the sharpening room who refused to sharpen my supposedly unworkable knife today (11/20/23). Ive been coming to this store for at least three years now and have always loved my experiences here! Ive bought knives, kitchen stuff, and! Ive had my custom and some regular knives sharpening here with no issue ever, Ive always been helped both cordially and quickly. To clarify, I am capable of sharpening knives on my own with the stones I have but sometimes like having the Bernal guys put a professional edge on my knives just for peace of mind. Today I brought a knife that I will admit is definitely beat up but really only has one major nick in the edge towards the base of its edge. Upon arriving, I was approached by a tall gentleman who examined my admittedly beat up knife after I told him I knew that any edge put on it would not be perfect but that I just wanted something. After a quick inspection the dude literally just handed it back to me and said verbatim Ill pass on that. Supposedly because of the nick in the knife which, if sharpened, wouldnt produce a good working edge because of the thickness of the knife.I asked him earnestly if there was anything he could do but he simply said that he didnt and or couldnt do anything for the knife. Again, I was just really disappointed especially since I know there are sharpening machines in the shop which could have at least done something for the blade. But according to that guy I guess I just gotta throw that knife away because its past being saved. Im not saying I wont come back and that the store isnt filled with dope people, but in my humble opinion, out of all the times Ive had stuff sharpened here, seems like that guy was just being lazy on a Monday.

2023-07-22 14:30:27Purchased two knives online. Shipping was fast everything was well packed and the prices were fair both on the knives and on shipping. Thank you for carrying all these excellent hard to find brands. Attached is a photo of my 100 year old family heir loom herder over my newly purchased knife from bernal.

2023-04-09 17:11:10Wow, what an experience! From the undivided attention, to the knife selection, to the knowledge of the staff, everything was great. Popped in and purchased a 180mm Hayabusa HAP40 damascus santoku and a 160mm Tojiro DP Santoku VG-10. I live in WA, so they shipped it to me (for free) and gift wrapped the Hayabusa since it’s a wedding gift for a friend. To say the knives were well packed would be an understatement. And not a single gram of plastic to be found in any of the packaging. I was so impressed, I went to their online store and ordered 3 SG2 Nigara Hamono’s, now having confidence they’d arrive undamaged:180mm Nakiri Octagonal Hammer180mm Bunka Octagonal Hammer240mm Gyuto DamacusI could not be happier and will be purchasing more knives and cookware from them…probably soon.Bonus points: Each knife comes with one (1) free sharpening service. Love this place.

2023-06-09 21:44:16$138 knife lasted two months with normal use and they told me that they can fix it, but it wont be the same and that it will cost me money and that if I want another one I have to pay for it. Dont take a chance with this company unless you have deep pockets.

2021-11-05 21:56:40An amazing selection of beautiful knives and home goods. I remember when this was a tiny little shop on Guerrero. Now it is a large, full-scale operation on Valencia. The staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. We get the best gifts from here - from pocket knives for groomsmen gifts to antique skewers for birthday gifts. Its a really cool shop thats worth the visit!

2023-02-13 22:45:59My photo is the appetizing ‘tinned fish wall’. Fishwife Salmon is $14 and at Birite it’s $14.99 so it’s actually not the highest price in the neighborhood, but that being said, don’t come here looking for bargains. But it is a fantastic store with a nice selection of specialty packaged foods upfront, and an amazing selection of cookbooks and kitchen gadgets. They’re not really kitchen gadgets, but cool designy kitchen products, mostly Japanese, but a lot of European stuff too. A really great place for buying gifts. And of course they have a gigantic selection of knives including pocket knives and axes and hatchets. And they have some antique knives also. They’re very knowledgeable and friendly and I love working with them.

Free first sharpening if you buy one there! Also a lot of other cute kitchen items including some delicious tinned fish.
