Tried this place on a random Saturday night for dinner. They were pretty busy but the service was great. The food was tasty but the only thing is I wish our dish had more protein in it. Other than that the presentation was really cute and had good flavor over all. Plates are shareable sizes so it’s more of a family style type of dinning.

What a wonderful restaurant! My Dad and I went in for my birthday dinner. The staff is so amazing and so nice. We asked about a few things and for recommendations and everything we ate we said, oh WOW! Delicious. It is a family business and you can really see and taste how much love and care goes into their food. I can’t wait to go back. Thanks to our lovely servers who were so thoughtful and wished me a happy birthday at the end of the evening!

We had a party of 7 and ordered a mountain of food. The service was amazingly quick. We didnt have to wait long and before I knew it, all our food was at the table! The food that they served here is as authentic as it can be, if you are looking for lao/thai food. However, the Thai tea was a little too sweet for my taste, but overall would recommend. To be honest, we ordered way more food than the provided pictures, but I was too eager to eat!

I brought friends to this restaurant for dinner and they raved for it. i actually. tried new dishes too and was happily surprised!khao Soy - Lao style beef soup has a flavorful brothsakoo - was a hit! chewy handmade tapioca steamed balls w minced meat flavorful and soft filling! my fav dish!mah pla - cream steamed in banana leaf w herbs like dill and lemongrass. had a side of spicy fish paste. my new favorite comforting fish dish!eggplant stir fry- not too greasy! just perfect!the only feedback. Finally had a moment to dine in the restaurant. Weve only ever done take-out.Food here was amazing! Only gripe is that our table wasnt offered the chili sauces in the orange containers. One of the dishes I ordered (saloon) usually comes with chili oil when we order take-out. Upon asking for some spice I was told the dish was already seasoned and they dont add anything else. Was really missing the spice level even with the fried red peppers that did come with the dish. Aside from that every dish we had was amazing. My kids tried everything that came out. Favorites from the kids were the angel wings and garlic noodles. I enjoyed every single dish.Probably not a place I would recommend on a busy Friday night if youre looking for something intimate. It was very loud inside. Actually refreshing to me so the kids didnt have to be super quiet.Very family friendly. Many people with kids were enjoying dining.Services and servers were on top of everything. Definitely a place we will be visiting again and often.

In Sunnyvale on a business trip and we were looking for Lao food and there is really nothing here. Had to make the drive to Oakland to get our Lao food fix. It was worth getting stuck in traffic to come to this place.When I was walking to the restroom I saw Ma pah(grand ma) working the kitchen and I knew the food was going to be good.All the food we ordered was great. Might have over ordered for 3 people but its good to have left overs.If Im ever in the area again I would definitely come back.

Im Laotian, so Im super picky when it comes to eating at Lao restaurants. Its all about authenticity for me, and hands down, Bhan Mae Vane surpassed all expectations! The flavors and textures of every single dish was exceptional and the quality of the food is what you would find at a traditional Lao wedding or Ceremonial event. The bay area is so lucky to have this special place to eat authentic Laotian food. What a gem! I cannot wait to come back and eat!

Delicious food, but service was hit or miss.Our group of 7 arrived a little after 5 pm on a Sunday evening and were promptly seated. The staff was quick with water, hot tea, and settings.Our order consisted of the following:Shrimp in a BlanketSakooNam KaoChicken Yellow CurryChicken Pad Se EwBeef Pad Mak KuerBBQ Pork RibsEverything was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully.However, the restaurant began to fill up quickly, so the staff was extremely busy. That is when service began to suffer. For example, we ordered a large steamed rice to accompany our yellow curry, but we werent given rice until 20 minutes after the curry was served. In fact, we had to flag down someone to remind them about our rice. By then, the curry had cooled down. We also had to flag servers down for water and tea refills.The food is fantastic, and we will definitely be back. I just hope for better service next time.

I came here with my dad for a quick lunch. We tried to share an entree and 2 appetizers. The food was great, delicious, and plenty enough! Now we’ve got some tasty leftovers for dinner!I recommend 100% the spring rolls with the best peanut sauce I’ve tried and the Nam Pao (crispy rice).

Great place to get some real lao food. We ordered way to much food, but wanted to try a few dishes. The pork belly was very good. The papaya salad was also good. This seems to be one of those dishes that can be made such that certain flavors out stand the others and some people prefer certain flavors. I noticed that this did not have the crab flavor stand out so much, but it have a deep savory flavor that was yummy. The egg roll and lettuce wrap were also very good.Highly recommended.

This is my first time trying food from Loas and it does not dissapoint. I am from Indonesia and the spices actually taste similar to Indonesian food but texture and form of cooking is completely different. The Sakoo is delicious and the stew though spicy is really in my tastebuds. Morover the beef is simply appetizing. Will definitely go here more often.

Ill start by acknowledging that we arrived just before their dinner rush. Though, I would think theyd have some practice.Food: Overall, we enjoyed the flavors. The Angel Wings are kid-friendly, not spicy, a little sweet and crispy. I had the Khao Soy. Very good, I would have liked it to be spicier, like Thai spice. The hibiscus tea and the green tea are tasty but too sweet (which is great for the kids.Service: As mentioned before it was their dinner rush. Our server didnt write down our order, which had her come back to ask again. I didnt receive our side of rice that we wanted during our meal. Also, as soon as food was dropped, it was nearly impossible to get the attention of any of the wait staff. Couldnt ask for chili for my soup, and, when finished, it took 10 min to ask for boxes and the check. All servers were very flustered and didnt acknowledge the delay in service nor apologized for mistakes.I liked the food enough to return, though i will do so during a less busy time.

An unbelievably good South East Asian resultant, I almost don’t want to write this review because I don’t want it to get any more crowded than it already gets. Bahn Mae Vane’s food absolutely slaps, with the savory tapioca balls and the puffed rice dishes being standouts. There are Thai classics, and dishes that are Laotian sound on those Thai favorites. Go here, you won’t regret it!

Well-lit restaurant, instantly welcomed by staff and seated immediately. We ordered the fried pork belly and the appetizer sampler that had egg rolls, shrimp egg rolls and fried tofu with sauces, and a papaya salad.Food came quickly and it was all delicious. We made friends with the couple next to us because they had a dish that looked interesting and appetizing.My dinner date asked me what was missing from the overall experience. We both thought that some music would complete the overall experience, either some Lao or Thai music would be perfect. Definitely will be back to try their other dishes.

Very strange dining experience. The food was incredibly bland and the noodles were actually burnt. It wasn’t edible. The papaya salad had no flavor other than spicy chili. I eat Thai, Vietnamese and Laotian food all the time. I love spicy food and I love flavor. Maybe we came on an off day. The giant TV’s in the dining room kill any ambiance. We didn’t have the heart to tell them how inedible the food was and politely paid our bill and left.

Met up with our friends who live in Alameda here. It was their recommendation and let me tell you, everything we had totally hit the spot.Cute main entrance with dark grey walls and bright yellow double doors. The place was charming and I loved the assorted chandelier lighting. Clean and pretty modern. We ordered a variety of menu items: fried tofu, pad se ew, fried clear rice paper wraps and the BMV ultimate papaya platter with beef short ribs, crispy pork belly and wings. What a lovely assortment of dishes we had. Everything we had was damnnnnnn good!!!The BMV ultimate papaya platter was BOMB!!! The presentation is so nice and the food was phenomenal. The papaya salad was fresh and spicy and I loved it, the sauce was so good! All the meats were on point. Our tummies were so happy after this meal.I wish we had a spot like this close to us! Have you ever had food that was so good that you wish you could go hug the chef? This place is it. I’ve had both dine-in and delivery and the quality / portion is consistent. Mok Pla fish was not good. Its not fish fillet (as we expected), but it came out in a mushed paste. Side veggies for the dish were disappointingly not Asian (just steamed cabbage, carrots and broccoli). The Tom Yum soup was just salty and spicy and not very flavorful. Waitress took our order quickly but never came back to refill our water or check on us. She told us soup isnt spicy which was totally wrong! Ambiance was great though.

Hands down one of the best Thai/Lao food and service in the bay! While everything on the menu is delicious, I always order the Papaya salad platter with Angel wings, Lao Sausage and pork belly. Food was great! But, unfortunately we did not enjoy the taste of the Mok Gai. When letting our waitress know, and asked for a different dish, they said there was nothing wrong with this one, and that the description was on the menu. She let us know that since we tasted it we had to pay for it. That’s true, it was our first time, and we didn’t enjoy it (you have to try it to know if you like it!). Now before you say we are “entitled”, this has happened many times before and restaurant owners and staff are more than happy to replace a dish. We are very loyal to restaurants that we frequent. My wife and I were talking about how our food was so awesome, and that this would be a new weekly restaurant for us. We ended up speaking with the owner Mimi, who was pleasant and ended up reluctantly comping our dish. We weren’t pushy. She was very nice, but made it known that we should get more guidance before ordering our dishes. 3 stars instead of 5, because they made us feel like we were doing something wrong by asking for another dish. We will be back again and hopefully our experience will be better.

Usually when Im recommended a spot so many times, Im hesitant to try. But alas. It was truly excellent. Ill probably avoid the fried plate, as my palette doesnt enjoy it as much. Wow. Truly exceptional! Both the owner and her daughter Zoe are incredibly friendly and hospitable! Super patient with my lack of decisiveness LOL. The recommendation of the spring rolls was spot on and that included sauces were fresh and flavorful! Had to save half of them for later in my bike ride because it was such a good size despite being classified an appetizer. I’m glad I saw someone else’s picture of a Matcha Thai Tea which apparently is a secret menu item. Such a fun combination of flavors… My two favorite teas in one! They are Thai/coffee tea is also delectable… thank you again for the most wonderful meal I’ve had in quite some time. Also a beautiful and clean establishment! Stumbled upon this place during our rare visit to Alameda. Ordered the crispy pork belly and nam kao and both are excellent. The pork belly is so very crispy! Overhead a conversation with the owner that we opened just when the shelter in place happened. So glad they survived. Will sure visit them again when were in Alameda.

I LOVE their food. The drunken noodles are one of my favorites. The staff is very friendly and have good service.It is very clean and comfortable. I wouldnt exactly call it cozy or romantic but I really enjoy going there. I also get take out fairly often.The tapioca balls and the Laotian sausages are excellent. I was a little disappointed by the pad thai last time I was there because it wasnt super flavorful and I had never had it before.

My second time here; this time by myself. The pho e-lao is presumably the Lao version of Vietnamese pho. The restaurant is super busy with carry outs. Even there ain’t many dine in customers, the staffs barely have time to pay much attention to me. It took a while maybe 30 min to get the noodle. The noodle itself is it very flavorful. The portion of meat to noodle is too small. There is a lot of pho but not much meat. The beef are small pieces and not tender enough. It lacks the fresh flagrance of a good bowl of pho. The bean sprouts don’t come until I am half way through my noodle. Overall, I am a bit disappointed with this experience. I would like to try some other dishes though if I have another chance to come back.

I go to Alameda for work from time to time. I havent been to a great restaurant, let alone a Thai/Laotian one, until I went to Bhan Mae Vane the other night. What a surprise! Food is authentic. Papaya salad Laotian style was amazing. Flavor is true to its style. Crispy rice sausage salad was tangy crispy a lot of flavors. The 3 of us also ordered 3 entrées to share and they were all cooked to perfection. Let me warn you their portions are huge. We ended up packing enough for another meal for the 3 of us. Service is friendly and the owner lady was very helpful talking to us about their beer choices. 🍺 will definitely be back next time!!!!

I love this place! Really good dishes for dine in and we like to call in our order before arriving to give the kitchen a head start on super fresh prep. My preschooler gets the fresh shrimp spring rolls and I love the fried rice dish with meats and lettuce for wrapping. The dining room gets loud because of the open floor plan so its perfect for a loud toddler.

My husband and I were here for our anniversary. Lunch on a Saturday. We had the fried clear rice roll wraps. A must. Crispy egg rolls. Then Nam Khao Rice. This is fried rice balls crushed and fried with herbs, peanuts, and its very flavorful. We got the BMV platter. Ribs, Lao sausage, fried chicken wings, and papaya salad. The chicken wings were the best thing on the platter. Its not Lao, get the wings. I enjoyed mango and sticky rice for dessert and Thai iced tea. Delicious food.

Lawd. Ive been in the bay for the past 8 years, originally from stockton and we love that spicy dark Angel Cruz park style papaya salad! We found ourselves constantly going back to stockton for our southeast Asian fix. Everything was delicious! My sister and I were craving Lao food since we don’t really cook it often due to the time and effort it takes so it’s nice to have a place that tastes really authentic. We’ve had Lao food in many different cities but this is one the most expensive ones we had. Lao food should never be this expensive but it’s hard to find so I get it plus they put tons of care into packaging and it’s not a hole in the wall. We ordered the papaya platter, extra papaya salad, sa koo and some pad kee mao. No complaints, everything was tasty and plenty and as spicy as we wanted. Vegetables we received were fresh. Sticky was cooked perfectly. Sa koo was soft and chewy. The noodles we ordered were different from usual pad kee mao but I was a fan. I really liked it. Pad kee mao, sa koo and the platter had lots of meat. They don’t skimp here! All of our food had different boxes and were packed so neatly where nothing could spilled. I would definitely come back here.

Came here a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to grab one of their tables outside in the sun. Excellent food and service - everything (from table to chair) was disinfected before we sat down and the server was very friendly. I had the tapioca balls to start and then the eggplant curry - highly recommend the tapioca balls, they were so good!!

This place is fantastic. We brought a group of 7 to eat here. Service was excellent and people were friendly. Ordered two bottles of wine and at least one item per person. Food was excellent with the exception of the soup, which was only meh. Would highly recommend.

WOW. AH. MA. ZING!!! I love trying new dishes and rare authentic ones you can’t get anywhere else. Loved everything I had here. Chicken wings. The tapioca balls (never even heard of this dish before!) and garlic noodles. Such great flavor. Try something new and be adventurous with what you pick.

My favorite restaurant in Alameda. I think the Tom Yum and the Lao spring rolls are the best versions Ive had of those items. Cant get there as often as Id like due to covid job loss messing up my budget, but I still try to order from there every week or two. Looking forward to dining in there soon

LOVE this place !!!! Super authentic and tasty bites. Highly recommend their fried wings, sakoo balls, Nam khao (tasty Laotian salad - legit!!), khao soy and crab khao/ garlic noodles and fried rice. Their portions are incredible… personally I think they hook it up too much. This spot is a must try and you’ll be going back for more!
