I used to like this place a lot. I remember I came here for some fish vindaloo long ago, wasnt impressed, and stopped coming for a while. But Im glad a friend suggested this place for lunch, and its been a while, so I figured Id give them another shot. Now its back to the old Bhanus I used to remember and love --but with an updated menu and settings. Their dining area is pretty narrow, but its enough to fit most people. Im sure if things got super busy, they could always set up the tables and chairs outside. In any case, stuffed myself so much, I dont need to eat dinner anymore!

First place where high level spice *IS* spicy. Delicious curries & lassi too, and can be tasted through the burn.Note: Carolina Reaper is spicier than the Ghost Pepper(If you cant take spice dont worry, they also make non spicy food - just dont order it ghost pepper level!)

Family owned restaurant that also doubles as a grocery store! It’s pretty convenient.Plenty of parking and friendly waiter! The only complaint I have is the incense smell is a little too strong for me. But I get it’s a cultural thing so I can’t fault them for that.Their mango lassi is my favorite! Always delicious! My friend let me try their Kashmiri Chai (pink tea) and it was good also!Shared the samosa combo platter and it was so yummy! I love that cilantro dipping sauce too!I ordered their butter chicken with roti and loved it! So delish! I highly recommend it!They serve you a dessert at the end (it’s like a syrupy donut). It was really sweet and heavy but I was too full.

Have been coming to Bhanu’s for a few years now and it never disappoints. I highly recommend their Bombay fish fry to start off with, so delicious! There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan friendly options. I can’t do any spice and their food unless stated is very mild and I really appreciate that especially when it comes to Indian cuisine.

We found this place because of a Reddit thread on the best Indian food in the area and they steered us right! We had the onion bhaji, chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, garlic naan and rice. Everything was delicious, even the chutneys with the onion bhaji. That may have been the best of several different chicken vindaloos Ive had this year. It was flavorful without being drowned in ghee like Ive had some places. The garlic naan was fantastic. Everyone working there was very friendly and the prices were much more affordable than many other menus weve looked at.

We got the combo plate. Very small portions. There are a few cubes of lamb (lamb curry), as well as with the chicken. They tasted good, though. The Naan were crunchy, which I really like. The location is inside the grocery. A partition separates the area.

I ordered a goat biriyani for $16.53 and the quantity was so less. It barely filled my stomach. And the taste was not that of a biriyani( could taste the raw taste of spices) Too pricey, too less and not great!! Disappointed!!

We ordered the pani puri appetizer and it was so flavorless. I don’t recommend ordering that. Basically plain yogurt inside a pastry shell with a little chutney on top. We also had chole bature. The bread wasn’t very fluffy, as you can see in the picture, and the chickpea curry was very tomato based. I personally prefer a more tomatoey Chana, but my husband (who is Punjabi) doesn’t. I would go back to try other dishes, but it wasn’t my absolute favorite place. They did a great job at separating the little market from the eating area. Makes the restaurant atmosphere a lot more inviting.

Most of the food they sell in their market is available in their restaurant. Awesome to sit and eat after shopping around. The food is fantastic with a really large vegan selection. The food used to be really good, but of late their spices and masalas have lost their luster. I hope they bring back that nice garam masala and freshly ground spices into their dishes. Its a nice taurine used to need to give it a try. Its a very unique place given there are not too many South Indian snack places in the area. Id stick with their vegetarian options as their meat curries tend to be nondescript and flat in terms of flavor/aroma. Great rotis, nans, and pulaos, though. Definitely worth checking out also their grocery store. Their selection is huge! Recommend.

Great Indian food with friendly service. Once you get over the surprise of seeing a restaurant inside an Indian food mart, and actually eat the tasty food, you realise it was worth it.Only a dozen tables, and most were occupied at 7pm, but we did get seated straight away in the corner and waiter dropped off menus and water straight away. Food came quickly and was of decent portions. We only had appetizers and they were filling as main meal.

The grocery section is rather small but I’ve found some fascinating stuff I haven’t seen in other Indian stores. They have lots of organic and healthy food items and small section of fresh produce with Indian bitter melon, eggplants, okra, etc. Section of desserts and frozen foods as well.Tried their food for the first time, and everyone was so attentive and sooo kind. They happily answered questions and made suggestions, constantly checked to see if everything was ok.The food price was reasonable and the combo deal was a great way to try different things. Chicken Tikka Masala was the best we’ve had. I love how the chicken tasted and its texture. I suppose it was cooked in tandoori then added to the sauce? The chicken itself had that distinct flavor and texture to it while the sauce itself had lots of flavor and although creamy, it wasn’t too oily or too rich like in some other places.We got a combo dosa with beef, potato, and spinach. Haven’t had beef and spinach dosa before, and they were all delicious.Dosa was freshly cooked but came out so quick! The tomato based sauce was my favorite.The Kashmiri tea was recommended by the server and it was an interesting experience. It’s not as spicy as chai I’m more used to. It’s milder in taste and it tasted like spiced and mildly sweetened milk rather than tea. It smelled so good 😌All in all, the price was reasonable and if I have to choose, it was on the cheaper side compared to other places in the area. Service was amazing, and food was so satisfying. Can’t wait to try other things!

Made a trip to the market to pick up some Alphonso mangoes and asked the gentleman at the register (possibly the owner?) about what snacks I shouldn’t miss. I was ~easily~ coaxed into getting lunch at the restaurant. I had the lamb biryani, garlic basil naan, and mango juice. Everything was delicious and the lamb was so tender. The service was perfect and everyone was very friendly. If I lived in the area, I would definitely eat here again.

Bhanu Grocery has been my go-to every time I crave homestyle Indian food for several years now. But I really want to give heartfelt thanks to Bhanu for helping me during recent illness - Ive only wanted to eat their Tikka Masala chicken curry (with spice level 8) for the last week, to be honest, and it was the only thing I could enjoy during my terrible cold! The dish is very hot, but the heat doesnt take from the blend of seasoning, and it is exactly enough to enjoy a hearty meal for one or split between two people with naan or rice. Their veggie egg rolls are also delicious, and my stepfather greatly enjoys their lamb korma. We love you, Bhanu! Thank you for always providing such delicious and nourishing food!

Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had, in the LA area or anywhere in the world. Really cool menu with some innovative dishes as well as classics from multiple regions of India. Plus they have a nice little grocery store attached to the restaurant. Mostly snacks, tea, spices, but also vegetables and groceries.

Service is poor, no customer appreciation or thank you when picking up your food. Also very expensive for what you get. Ordered the Tikka chicken and basically paid $28 for bones. Do they really expect us to eat the bone? One drumstick they gave me literally had half a bite of chicken on it!! See pics. Definitely will NOT be returning

Great Indian food at the restaurant.The market prices are great for buying big packets of ground spices; freshly roasting whole spices, then grinding is better but the work/taste:price ratio comparison for taste makes the ground product tasty enough to warrant the lower price/work/taste; its good for everyday cooking without having to roast and grinding your own spices.The fridge section has decent prices on delicious imported foods(like naan)Theres a cute girl who works here, if that matters to you.

Nice online ordering. You can earn for rewards for food base on how many points you have. Food is good. Market is on one side and the restaurant is on the other side for sit down. It has a few tables. They have a good selection of dishes. I would defintiely go back and try more dishes.

If I am craving Indian food, I always like to eat here. The food taste fresh and the staff is friendly. Inside is a grocery store, they carry spices, drinks, yogurts, rice, and lentils, etc. I recently discovered that they also sell fresh Turmeric Root. I like to make my own chili oil so this is where I purchase the chili flakes. If I want something extremely spicy, they sell dry Ghost Chile which is the Worlds Hottest Garlic Pepper, it is rated with 1,041,427 SHU (Scoville Heat Units). Now they also have the dried Trinidad Scorpion Chile which is rated 1,463,700 SHU (Refer to Periodic Table of Scoville Units Table). If you are up for the spicy challenge you can request for these two chilis on some of the curry items (additional fee) and they also have you sign a waiver. During the summer, they sell the Ghost Pepper Chili plant. There is also a dinning area to enjoy their food.~Drinks~Ive tried the Mango and Strawberry Lassi; they prepare it from scratch. Its made of Indian mango, diary, and sugar; its creamy, and sweet.~Food~I like to order the meals for lunch which comes with Curry Chicken, Butter Chicken, or Tandoori Chicken (2pcs), I get the Butter Chicken. The meal also includes, Veg, Lentil, Naan (Garlic Naan extra $.50 cents) and Yogurt. Their Chicken Samosa is crispy on the outside, inside its stuffed with Chicken and peas. It comes with two sauces, the green one is made of cilantro and Jalapeño, the red sauce is sweet tamarind. My favorite dish is the Butter Chicken,Garlic Naan, and Strawberry Lassi. I love to dip the garlic naan in the curry. If you want something spicy, tell them you want it spicy and it will be HOT!! Another highlight is the staff. Everyone is friendly especially Richard and Anil!!~Dessert~The most popular one is called Kuji (round), it is made of milk and cream. I got the Burgee (green) which is made of pistachios, Kalakand (square), contains milk and pistachio, and Pede (triangle) has saffron and pistachio. From these four, my favorite is Kalakand.~Customer Service~This place is family owned. Anil is kind and very helpful, whenever I have questions he is always happy to help me. Wow! Just wow. This place was amazing! You would think that this is just a grocery store, but it is way more than that. The food was scrumptious. The garlic naan bread was soft and had a good flavor. I got a combination plate and the flavors were all there in each dish.You can shop and eat here. Its a good place to find special ingredients for your dish. I would highly recommend this place.

The vegetarian combo is only 8.99 and very generously portioned. The garlic basil naan really stood out.The establishment has a restaurant on the left and a small but very thorough Indian market on the left.On a side note, the restaurant closes at 9pm. However the market is open till 10pm so dont feel bad or rushed if you enter at or near near close and want to dine in.

Best, authentic, delicious AND economical India food only 5 minutes from my home. The ambience is clean and bright and youre entertained by two opposing TVs showing their Indian drama or dance videos. Favorite dishes are curry lamb, chicken, and curry coconut fish. Plus one must try their aloo gobi (potato + cauliflower). They also have great lunch combos too. My family and I have been their patrons for a decade. Lastly, try their mango lassi (smoothie) and masala chai tea.

Dont be fooled by the humble appearance, this a gourmet gem! Fantastic flavors and a friendly and helpful staff. If youre from out of town, make sure to make this a stop. You can eat a fantastic meal, with an out of this world selection; then treat yourself too an incredible variety of market items and get some food to go. Super delicious Indian curry! I ordered lamb combo with spicy sauce. In the combo meal, there are main dish curry with beans curry and yogurt, and the yogurt neutralizes the spicy taste of curry and brings out the nice flavour of curry.

This is the best southern indian in the san gabriel valley if you want to test your spice eating limits. I recommend the butter chicken lunch special with garlic naan: (ghost pepper, trinadad scorpion and carolina reaper- levels 1 thru 5 available)

TL;DR The food and service at Bhanus Indian restaurant were disappointing, and the restaurant is not worth the visit.I recently visited Bhanus Indian restaurant on Jan 2 and was extremely disappointed with my experience. The salted lassi that I ordered was not a yogurt drink as I had expected, but was instead a milky and poorly flavored beverage. When I asked the waiter about it, he refused to do anything to rectify the situation. The food that I received later was also of average quality, and overall I was very disappointed with the low quality of the food at this restaurant.I have had similar experiences at Bhanus in the past, and as a result, I will not be returning. I would suggest that others looking for high-quality Indian cuisine should consider driving to other nearby restaurants rather than risking a similar experience at Bhanus.

Great food and great market. We havent eaten at the restaurant since before 2020 but used the market often when we lived in the area. Their market prices are cheap so its easy to get staples like spices, tea and rice. Before 2020 when we visited the restaurant side often their food was top-notch.

Very disappointing, Idly, white chutney tomato chutney and chicken Biriyani was delivered yesterday. Idly was not good, made of rice flour or something. White chutney was in the form of shredded coconut and ground cilantro mixed with sugar water. Tomato chutney was old and fermented. Sambar had lot of gram flour mixture snack in it. Chicken Biriyani tasted like tomato rice mixed with bland chicken pieces

Everyone seemed super friendly and happy to answer any questions, and I even took the time to pick some things out from the grocery section after lunch.I no longer remember exactly which combination I got for lunch, but at this point I think I’ve tried a bunch of different things and loved all of them.Come here if you’re okay with a no frills, delicious meal, with homey, family style service.

Excellent food, fast service and friendly staff, the restaurant is wonderful for both dining in and take out. Since half of the business space is allotted to grocery items, the restaurant is very casual.The menu is broad, including some Chinese dishes, but all of the dishes youd expect in an Indian restaurant are available. The vegetable samosas are particularly good, as are the chutneys they provide with them.Prices are average for Indian fare, with two people eating for about $40 (appetizer, 2 dishes, rice and naan) and youll definitely have leftovers.

I stopped here for a quick lunch during work. I completely loved every dish I had ordered. Please be sure to communicate any diet restrictions! There is great choices and even vegetarian options. The food itself was very good and came at a reasonable price. Its not fine dining, but its a good place to go for a casual night out. Although the restaurant portion is not very big, our large party was able to find seating pretty quickly. The grocery portion isnt huge either, but it packs a lot of goods that are difficult to find.

This restaurant is a quaint place that is part restaurant and part grocery store.Food is always cooked to order so your patience will be well rewarded. Ive had most of the standard fares as well as the lesser known regional items on the menu. The lamb dishes are superb. The spices complement rather than overpower the gamey flavor of the lamb.I recommend asking the waiters before trying the unfamiliar items. Each easier has been extremely patient and will help guide you through the menu.The grocery store is nothing to sneeze at either. Things may seem a bit chaotic but someone can always help you find what you need. This is also a good place for getting hot chili peppers if you have a tolerant belly.

The best Chicken Tikka Masala Ive had. All their food is excellent. Great quality and reasonably priced. Portions at Indian restaurants are always smaller but here its adequate. They have a huge selection of meat and vegetarian dishes. Family owned and very friendly. Ive seen many of the employees there for 5-7 years. Everyone is nice. Theres also a market and an Indian dessert section. I highly recommend first, above all others. My second choice would be to go to Artesia, but Ive never tried Mint Leaf in Pasadena.

When post mates delivered the another customers food from a completely different restaurant, Bhanu immediately leaped into action to ensure we were taken care of. I was texted with updates that a new order of food was instantly being made. And the owner personally drove the order to us. And to top it all off, it’s the best Indian we’ve had since living here. Great place to get indian food and groceries. Very good selection of spices and pre mixed easy to cook dishes. The in store restaurant provides delicious food. The associates are friendly and helpful. Most of the times they have seasonal mangoes from india. The sweet section has a good variety of sweets but is not always very fresh. The groceries are on a little expensive side but due to the selection that can be ignored.

First time here. I got a take out order because of the Quarantine and I was amazed. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala combo plate, side of Chicken Korma, 1 order of Samosa, and garlic naan. A great little Indian grocery store -- makes me nostalgic for India :) You can get just about anything you need for Indian cooking there, as well as an assortment of fresh sweets and chutneys (tip: get the chutneys and freeze them in little cubes. They are super delicious and theyre great to have on hand!)The grocery store is only half of the store - the other half is a little restaurant! Great for a low-key meal or even better for takeout.

Shop has wuality items available for purchase. For example they are the only place i know of near LA that sells quality baby goat meat. However, their prices are a little steep. We dropped by Bhanus for a Saturday lunch and quick shopping trip. I had a butter chicken lunch combo, that when it came to the table, looked like someone had stolen half of my lunch, but by the time I was done I could hardly breathe. The lunch set is a great deal, and if you get some samosas (So good with a flaky pastry crust and completely stuffed with filling) on the side, it even makes a filling meal for two. The garlic naan is flavorful, but the cheese naan has only the slightest sprinkle of cheese on the top, so youre better off getting something else.Its surprisingly spacious considering half the store is a well-stocked grocery. If you go at the right time, its an excellent place to watch cricket games as well. Theyve got to big televisions rigged up at the front and back of the restaurant area.

Bhanu is pretty much how I imagine a more authentic Indian restaurant in the greater Los Angeles area to be. In the venue, a fully stocked market and prepared hot food section is shared with the dining area. Although prices are higher than I expected for the casual atmosphere, their food is pretty darn good. I recommend their chicken curry on a meal plate, which included paneer, yogurt, beans, and naan. Service is extremely friendly and theyre not shy about ensuring your satisfaction. This my place when I want real Indian food.

This place is always fairly busy. If you going there on a weekday evening or on the weekend, you can usually expect to drive through the small parking lot (shared with Trader Joes) a couple times before parking.Bhanus itself most always has a table open if you are going for a sit-down meal (you can just seat yourself, and they will bring you some menus). Most of the food is very good, my favorite being the chicken butter masala and naan. One food I would avoid is the tandoori salmon, which was overcooked and too dry as a result.On the way out, we sometimes buy some sweets from the front counter (get the mango barfi or gulab jamun, both are awesome).There is also an extremely cramped grocery aisle section along the wall across from the restaurant tables, so people perusing the aisles might bump your table if you are in a seat next to the groceries. They have quite a wide selection of Indian goods, canned, packaged, or frozen, but it can be difficult to find what youre looking for because they are not sorted that well.However, the employees are always very friendly and will help you find the particular item if you get lost in the groceries.Overall, its a fun place to stop by, try some new food, and satisfy your sweet tooth.

Be caution when purchase in grocery store section. Here is my experience, 6 items of $20.74, overcharged $4.10, the tab from their electronic readers total $24.84. One frozen item price label there for $4.99, charged for $6.99. Another one price label there for $5.99, charge for $6.99. 2 spices were charged $0.50 & 0.60 more. These items are all price labelled in their shelves. Right away I went back to double check each item, and complained. Be noted that some items are not price labelled. I only chose to purchase those that they have price listed. When I complained that they over charged me $4.10, the Indian young man wanted me to go to the freezer and the shelves to check each item with him, which I did. This required some time. To make the story short, he was nice enough to give me my full cash refund. I *paid cash*, so he did give me back my cash full refund . **Remind you to get the receipt when pay. **They didnt give me the receipt. I had to request for one. To go back there to check each item, you do need the receipt. If no receipt, you basically cannot prove what items you purchased, and how much you paid. And, if you pay credit card, there may be another different issue. In addition, you must not be in a hurry to purchase, because all of the above procedure needs ***time.***Tips : 1. Check price yourself before paying 2. If no price label, check price before purchase. (Plenty of items has no price stated there.) 3. Pay cash. 4. Get receipt. 5. You must have a lot of time if, in case you need to do the above procedure like me. Best luck !

This restaurant does not offer a buffet but serves several types of Punjabi-style thalis. That means the food is fresh, not days old. Non-vegetarian types include a choice of curry chicken, butter chicken, lamb curry, or tandoori chicken, and the vegetarian thali consists of two seasonal sabzi and one lentil.Bhanus menu is fairly basic and most of the a-la-carte options represent Punjabi cuisine, although I have heard that the owners had previously operated restaurants in Mumbai. You wont find anything exotic or regional vegetables, the menu consists mainly of familiar north-Indian curries, paneer, and tandoor items which are most commonly served in US Indian restaurants. It appears the most popular items at Bhanu are American and British favorites: chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and tandoori meats.In terms of variety, unlike most local Indian restaurants, Bhanu extends its menu to include a few items from various regions of India. There are several types of South Indian dosas and idli (probably due to Mumbais proximity to Udupi), a short list of Punjabi & Gujarati chaat (roadside snacks), and Indo-Chinese delicacies.What I liked about Bhanu is their commitment to prepare fresh food. Dishes and plates appear to be cooked either individually or in very small batches only after they are ordered. Ive had the masala dosa and vegetarian thali several times. The vegetables in the thali are fresh, and the curries do not seem to have much trace of chemical additives. The grease level is much lower than most Indian restaurants in the area. The masala dosa was made crispy on the tawa with spiced potato fillings. The included sambar was hot and spicy, definitely not watered down, and a tad bit sweet from the choice of vegetables.If you like spicy food, you have to make the request or else the default spice level for the thali dishes is very very mild. You also have to request if you dont want additives to the bread, or else the naan or roti will come coated aggressively with ghee.

If youre looking at the price tags of groceries, then youre missing one of the most enjoyable meals available within the pantheon of Indian restaurants here in LA. The food is peerless, unless you want to fly to the four regions of India that find their way on Bhanus menu. This is no superlative, but to be fair as I write this, Im still under the influence of their kitchens handiwork and I must say, its hypnotically delicious. Ive had the good fortune of sampling Indian dishes since 1990 in greater Los Angeles and in multiple regions in India--to say nothing at my own hands. Against that wide range of experiences, Bhanus is now my main reason I stay within driving distance of San Gabriel.Go for the food. You will easily forget about groceries.My wife and I had the chicken korma, perfectly light, not greasy, delicately cooked; then the thali, with moist, fresh, soft & crisp naan, mild savory sambar, channa masala, veg masala, light raita, I think dal makhani, and veg samosas. All lovely. One clue after eating here, instead of the often lethargic, gassy, irritated from heavier mixes of food, I felt energized. Seems rare in Indian restaurants these days..We found the service at Bhanus more considerate and responsive than 5 star restaurants (whose wait staff are pleasant only to angle for a bigger tip). No miffed attitudes here. In fact, one of the southland gringos was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and attentive. The food came in 10-12 minutes--half the time what youd expect from a homemade meal.And thats what this is, believe it or no. We always hear the cooking is from a family recipe., but where most use that homestyle image as a marketing phrase, Bhanus is the real thing.(BTW, no other Indian restaurant which Ive experienced (except in India) motivated me to express what you, sad reader, may miss if you dont give this place at least a try.)

This is my favorite Indian restaurant both because its got great food and I can pick up groceries in the store after I eat. The Lamb Vindaloo and Fish Curries are the best.vtgey can also make the food supremely spicy when asked, which is just what I want.

Worst place to buy groceries. They all are expired products. Please make sure the expiring date. And they also cheat in billing. Be careful in billing they will add more amount in billing than you purchased.. restaurants taste is also too bad. In that locality there is no good Indian restaurant thats y people choose bhanu
