Staff was fine, food was absolutely awful. The worst Chinese food Ive ever experienced. Chow mein noodles over cooked and little taste was not good. Fried rice was still very white and again just with bad flavor. Chicken wasnt bad but not something Id get again. Maybe its just me, but I love Chinese food and have never had it taste this bad. Sorry but we wont ever be back.

Had the special, its like a combo of Chinese food served for 2 is less $ than individual plates.Usually very attentive waiter. This day, 9/13 didnt see waiter till after dinner for check.Oh well 19 for 20 isnt bad for good service. Ive always have very good drinks and great food. Maybe our waiter was busy in the bar. It was just after 5:00pm. They always serve a great Mi-Tie. Always great food.

We ordered three combination dinners for our anniversary to share and when we got nothing that we ordered. We ordered egg foo young and sweet and sour chicken and got home and had spare ribs and 3 pieces of shrimp. We have had this happen before. My husband even drove all the way to the restaurant and ordered and picked it up so it would be hot. We won’t be ordering from Bill Lees again.

Just left and i couldnt wait to review. Food was not as great as the reviews. We are not picky eaters so we ate it anyway. As i ate i washed down with soda/water. Didnt taste any different than rice bowl. Food was a bit salty, but not too bad. My sons shrimp fried rice tasted burnt. Spent $110 for 5 people (2adult/3kids). The people around us were loud. I loved the wood carving decor. Service was good. Overall wont be back.

Legendary deliciousness, for me the late 80s till 2022 and beyond, I left town for 13 yrs, no two Chinese food joints are exactly the same, you accept what you are given. The atmosphere @BLBC is and has always been upscale, even looking into the bar as an adult I want to take a nap or do some blow lol, its still that cool. Still an attractive young woman greeting and seating you!?! I need to come here more than twice a year, bottom line. The food is good too, parking never an issue

Never a bad experience here in the many years we have been coming. Had been awhile since our last visit and Im happy to say its just as good as I remember. A bit of a wait to get seated during a busy lunch period, but well worth it. Food, service and ambiance was all top notch. Bill Lees is still setting the bar for a fine Chinese experience

2 things that made this amazing restaurant bad. Lets start off positive. Ive been going here for years!! I love the food!!! But this visits rubbed me the wrong way. 1 we ordered a couple house specials... the waiter said we should order three or my boss is going to be mad.... I thought that was super unprofessional!! (I decide how much I want to eat!! )2nd the portion size was so little compared to what we always get!! Im not sure whats going on!! But Im definitely not interested in going here anymore. Foods great.. service and portion size is a rip off!!

This restaurant was a place I would dine at several times. I ordered my usual combination fried rice . Spareribs broccoli and beef. Got regular rice and Brocoli. Got it delivered. Called restaurant no answer and I was charged 51.00 for small regular rice 3 Spareribs broccoli and beef.. I called to complain about what happen . They were rude said I got exactly what I ordered. Not true. I always order the same thing. I will never go there again. It was unprofessional and its not a place to dine if you want good service and a delicious meal. Its a shame. Out dated the food poor quality and in a bad area. The parking is made for a few cars. Its overpriced. It sucks

Ordered combo dinner last night with pot stickers as a side. Delivery was faster than told it would be which was good. Everything tasted a bit off. Sweet and sour chicken was just strange tasting. I was eating and after about 10 minutes I was puking my guts out. I swear on my moms eyes I was was projectile vomiting!!!!!! I did not eat anymore of this 25 dollar waste of money after this. What a waste of time and money. Never EVER going to order from this E-Coli restaurant again.

The place has really gone down in quality and taste. Fried rice has no flavor, noodles had starchy after taste, got beef broccoli n sweet sour chicken and that wasnt good either will probably never come back. First time eating here and Id only go back for the Dr. Mui rice (MAYBE) . Its like a combination meat fried rice it had beef, shrimp, chicken, and pork i believe. It was pretty good. Ordered the orange chicken and it was absolutely terrible. The sauce its tossed in really had no flavor and it was mushy no crunch or bite. Tasted as if it was microwaved. General tso from the frozen section at the grocery store sad to say is better than what I received. Try the rice if you wanna try anything.

Used to be our favorite Chinese restaurant in Bakersfield. However over the course of the last several years the food has become so bland that it almost inedible. When something has hot peppers beside it itbis supposed to be at least warm, not fit for my 8 years old grandchild. Will definitely be finding another Chinese restaurant. Might be back to the bar as the drinks are fab.

The flavor was ok, the food looked pale, not too much color. I got a plate with fried shrimp, and it had so much breading it was not good. Serving sizes are good and prices were reasonable. The lights where dim which didnt bother me but was interesting. Service was good, the server was nice, only thing is I had to ask several times for things and it took a while to get to me like, a straw, then a to go box and then a bag for the boxes which I got tired of waiting for and left.

Bill Lees is the best Cantonese food in Bakersfield and a local icon. Ive been eating here since I was a kid and still remember the always kind Mr. Lee standing by the entrance in his suit with a big cigar in hand. The recipes have remained the same all these years and stand up to the test of time. I highly recommend Bill Lees Bamboo Chopsticks to anyone looking for great Cantonese cuisine.

Bill Lees Bamboo Chopsticks is simply iconic for me. My Grandfather would have business meetings there. He fed all of his employees a great meal while they talked about the needs of the company. Everyone was able to voice their ideas over some of the best Chinese food and it was such a great atmosphere. Happy employees meant better business and a smile makes a big first impression. Thats what my Grandfather would say to my sister and I. We learned so much about valuing others and teamwork at Bill Lees. It became a special place for us. Not only because of our Grandfather, but because of the amazing venue. The dining area is beautiful. The artwork on the walls is stunning. And the food.. superb. I love to revisit this fine establishment and reminisce over everything it means to me. Enjoy!

Disappointed in the quality of my meal based upon the high Google ratings for this restaurant. My fried rice was very bland. In addition to that I asked if I could pay extra to have shrimp fried rice instead of pork fried rice. They actually took 3 regular sized shrimp and diced them into my rice! Wow, how cheap can you be?!? Thirdly, my beef was served partly raw (red).

Bill Lees is always delicious, when its good. Sometimes its the best Chinese American food ever, and sometimes its ok. It probably depends on who is cooking. But overall, its a Bakersfield institution and Bakersfield is lucky to have it. Some of the dishes, especially anything with beef have fantastic wok hey (smoky and savory) and Bill Lees has the best Chinese American fried shrimp in California. The only caveat, is please bring back the original crispy noodles for your standard chow mien; the new crispy noodles you use are too hard and not the same! If its a different supplier or recipe, I dont care, Id pay more for the original bag of crispy noodles.

I was there as a part of a large party, including my four kids. Seated quickly. Loved the decor and ambiance. Seated well for our large party. Service was timely and very professional and polite. My 8 year Olds enjoyed their experience, no crayons needed...they were distracted with yummy tea! Food was amazing...except for the duck, but that is my personal taste...I was just disappointed that it tasted bland to me. Everything else is absolutely awesome! Came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The building itself kind of confusing, their entrances (theres definitely 2, but maybe 3) are a little hard to spot. Once inside, the decor is nice, maybe a little dated, but still classy. The menus are big with lots of options and the prices are all very reasonable. The amount of food they give you is exceptionally generous, my GF and I both got dinner plates and we both we left full with still took more than half our plates to go. The quality of the food was pretty good but nothing stood out as especially delicious. Included with each meal is tea, soup and crackers. The service here was also good. I will be coming back.

One of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. First we got placed in the way back when nobody was in the restaurant. We think its because we had a baby with us. They didnt have any high chairs so we had to hold the baby the whole time. We then ordered the spare ribs and egg rolls. The egg rolls had a weird flavor we didnt like. The spare ribs had no flavor and were super tough. We got our meal and werent impressed by the taste. It left a metallic after taste. The best thing we ordered was the Hamburger and fries for the baby. The worst part of the experience was we never saw our waiter. The only time we saw him was at the end when we had to track him down. Sadly we will not be returning.

Best Chinese restaurant in Bakersfield! I’ve been a regular customer at Bill Lees for over 35 years. I love the food and the staff are very friendly and professional. I recommend the specialty of the house. It comes with Cantonese chow mien, tempura shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice and spareribs. I also recommend the Dr.Chan. It is a sad day to watch a place you have eaten at since 1960 go down hill. I can remember the days when Mr. Lee would go around to each customer and check that every thing was good at your table. The food was always the best in town and the service was great. Today I took my wife and granddaughter there for lunch. the price is a little high for the lunch special 64.75 one egg foo young, one orange chicken, one small bowl of white rice, one order of pan fried noodles and one small order of fried shrimp. Ok times are hard for all but for that kind of money you would like to enjoy your food together at the same time. When the food came to our table we did not get the fried shrimp. So we started eating anyway. After my second bite I found there was 1/4 inch of water on my plate from the chow mein and was soaking into the fried rice. I had to go look for the waitress to send it back as no one came back to check on us. She returned very quickly with my food it looked liked they wiped off the rice and chow mein with a rag and put a smaller portion of rice and chow mein about half of what was there before. Then the fried shrimp came to the table the batter was thick and over cooked to hard to eat. What a shame as the shrimp is the first thing to be finished as a rule. It was a very disappointing lunch not what we are used to. I hope things get better for it would be a shame to loose such a iconic restaurant that has been around as long as i have lived in Bakersfield.

This place is not good and is very expensive. Both my boyfriend and I got extremely sick. They charge 19 bucks for orange chicken and fried rice. The chicken was not even marinated in the sauce. It was like microwaved chicken nuggets with orange sauce at the bottom of the plate. I would avoid this place at all cost. 90 dollar meal for 3 people. The waitress was nice, but never checked on us and charged for a 3rd tea when I didnt even order one and never refilled our tea nor our waters.

We did carry outs. The prices were ok and you did get a lot for your money. We ordered 3 different combos. I had egg Foo yung...its a favorite of mine, and this was just mediocre, but took care of my taste for it. It came with pork chow mean that was very good. I felt like the fried rice was lacking, tasted like plain white rice with some mixed veggies added. My sister had a pepper steak combo. The steak was so tender and loaded with peppers and gravy. This one was the best if all. I would do that one if I go there again. It came with almond chicken that was tasty. All in ll was the best Chinese Ive found in Bakersfield so far.

HORRIBLE! I ordered over the phone and we picked it up. The supposed to be fried chicken was dry and old tasting and not fried at all. I specifically told them NO Pork, but they put it in my food anyway. The sweet/sour sauce was watery tasting. The soft noodles were served in a torn taped bag. It was absolutely horrid. Then I used more gas to return it. They refused to refund me. Instead they offered to remake the order which was just as bad as the first time and they were paid for fried chicken and did not put it with the order. $35 down the drain. THIS PLACE IS NASTY HORRIBLE AND NOT WORTH THE TIME. They offered no discount for my gas no refund for anything. NEVER AGAIN and I will POST my bad experience with this place in hopes to help others NOT TO EAT OR ORDER from this place.

I ordered what used to be the their special and the sweet and sour chicken was horrible, I dont remember chicken legs being white meat . The shrimp was all bread and it was soggy. BILL Lees is my favorite Chinese food ever!!!! Great menu and service. I get the combination plate, fried shrimp, with the Cantonese noodles, and I always ask for the hot oil. It comes on the side when you ask for it. It kicks it up to the next level, a little spicy but not too hot. Its perfect to my taste. I think its sesame oil with spices in it. Just a little bit more flavor layering. Excellent restaurant I highly recommend it.

My Husband has been coming to this establishment for the past 35 years or so and loves how it reminds him of his past. I have always disliked this restaurants food and preparation. I come here because it’s my husbands past time nostalgia place. But I cringe every time we drive to Bakersfield because I know we will stop here to eat. The noodles are way too watery, there seems to be cornstarch or something used to make the food sauce thicker and it does not look pretty not appetizing on the beautiful plates. The food is bland, I asked for a substitute of gluten free soy sauce and it’s disappointing that after all these years they still do not have this as an option for people who are wheat intolerant. The fried rice is bland, the fried shrimp 🍤 has way more batter than the actual shrimp. The egg flower is great and the flaming zombie alcoholic beverage is the only thing I will eat. The pork ribs are always dry but perfectly cut and the presentation is great. The chowmein looks like wet slope and has too much bean sprouts in it. Likewise, I am ALWAYS disappointed and today I think I have convinced my husband to not return unless we go for drinks only. We usually come with 12 to 14 people but this time we all agreed we will just come for drinks next time. The chicken wings are ok…but drenched in an abundant amount of sauce. And the beef Broccoli 🥦 looks horrible and didn’t taste that great. I love the atmosphere and the staff is always so kind. Bathrooms need to have an hourly cleaning schedule and has been untidy that past few months we have attended. We come from Canyon lake ca about once every two months to visit family and enjoy the atmosphere. I quality is just not the same anymore. 😞

Quality and service are always consistently good at this fine restaurant. Pleasant atmosphere with great waiter/waitresses staff to help with menu selections. Not being very busy on a Monday night, we enjoyed the meal and somewhat quiet dining,and is children friendly with chairs and menu. Terrible customer service. Rude staff. I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. I was in the restaurant August 2021 my sons order was sent out incorrectly so I asked them to redo it. Fast forward 2 weeks Im in the middle of a move so I call for delivery. Was told because of complaint they would not deliver to my address. They used the information on the credit card I paid with in the restaurant and put do not deliver to my house. It had been 24 years since I visited Bill Lees last and I think they set aside rice, duck and noodles awaiting my return. Ive had tastier hot dog water than half of the stuff we were served.Party of 4 seated quickly. Waiter was nice and ordering was quick. The potsticker appetizer was very good with the spicy soy dipping sauce. Then... dinner came.We had the #3. The pepper steak, chow mein and fried rice was bland and the fried shrimp was thickly breaded and tasted fishy.The almond duck was... interesting. Ive had it elsewhere and it was deep fried crispy and served with sweet and sour sauce and you could tell it was duck. Our meal included fried squares of probably duck but I couldnt prove it if I had to. Not saying it wasnt duck. Just saying it was more a fried mash than anything. Quite unremarkable.Another dish ordered was the beef Chop Suey. It was devoid of flavor. I know it isnt a real fancy dish but its usually seasoned somehow. The flavoring avoided this dish completely.Being with people that smile, nod and never complain, everyone ate but it wasnt with an Mm mm GOOD! fervor. We took 4 boxes of food home with us but nobody wanted the leftovers.I will say, the potstickers and fortune cookies were good.Maybe Ill wait another 24 years and if theyre still around, Ill give it another go.

I really like the food and had been going there for years. I have had 2 bad experiences here and it will be a while if at all before I go back. We got charged twice for our meal on my card. When I called they claimed it didnt happen. The lady re-assured me it didnt happen. I explained the charged was on my account and offered to show them m my account and they argued it wasnt there and said the only way they would refund the money was with a paper bank statement. The person I spoke with told me she checked her records and did not see a duplicate charge and I felt like she was treating me like I was being dishonest. I called the bank who immediately found the charge and refunded the money. It was a very bad experience and poor customer service. I had poor customer service on my next visit also. I heard so many great things about this place... Its the best in town, the best bar none & even the best period. Im not a fan at all, I was not impressed to say the least. The place appeared clean, parking was easy to find & we were quickly seated, the mens bathroom was dirty. The food was not terrible it was just okay. I went with a small party of 6 we all ordered something off of the lunch menu. I ordered the chicken and it was covered in some weird tasting red glue it was okay & that egg flour soup was nasty. The way the waitress was forcing out her smile I thought she was constipated & not a single member of the staff said boo to any of us, it was very weird & it felt almost unfriendly. Well the fact remains, since I did not have to pay for my meal it was well worth it...! I will give them a 2nd chance some other time in the near future and update this review... I have loved this place ever since I was a little kid. My favorite has always been the Mandarin combination it comes with ribs fried shrimp, almond chicken, and your choice of pan fried noodles or crispy noodles and some fried rice. I recommend the crispy. When you dine in you also get a small bowl of egg flower soup. Take out doesnt get the soup. This place is that good that I dont even think covid slowed them down. My family has been coming here for years which is the only reason we decided to host my aunts 70th birthday party here. We were literally walking out with food that they forgot to bring during the dinner because they refused to take it off the tab . NEVER AGAIN! I usually go here for the lunch special with friends, which usually isnt too expensive and is reasonable for the quality of the food, the service is exceptional and waiters/waitresses are very friendly. They used to have a place on the Central Coast called Pearl East in Santa Maria California. Under new ownership it changed. I was heartbroken. But then I found this place. I find it hard to believe that the exact same recipes in the exact same food is at the store they must be related. Everything is good here. I totally endorse it its wonderful and I recommend at least dinner for two.

Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had! Ordered to go the Kung Pao chicken and broccoli beef very bland and vegetables so over cooked they were mush. Ended up throwing out all the mushy veggies.Maybe we got lunch leftovers since we ordered at 5pm on a Saturday.We are from out of town and relied on reviews here. Don’t do it. Waste of money

I ordered hot tea and got over done lipton, the fried rice was bland and I made the mistake of trying crunchy chow mein. I should have questioned it. Instead of cooked noodles I got the fried crunchy noodles that come from a can or bag that is usually served with hot mustard to snack on while you go through the menu. They went soggy and nasty by the end of the meal.They dont have high chairs, only booster seats. My wife and I had to take turns pinning our son in the booster so he couldnt crawl up on the table.I wont be going back.

Its been awhile since Ive ordered from Bill Lees ( in the past its been really good) tonight Im disappointed. The food lacked flavor !! The sweet and sour chicken sauce ( lacked the sauce!) Now if you like to pay for rice and noodles, this is your place! Beef and broccoli tasted watered down, the fried shrimp was basically all batter. I am very dissatisfied and so disappointed in Bill Lees Restaurant/ delivery. When I called in my order I asked which would be the best choice ( more for ur money) Al la carte or dinners. I was told dinners, in the past it was always hot and fed my family with left overs ( Al la carte). Not tonight for just 2 people.. Very disappointed..

A Bakersfield tradition and a place where you see familiar people and that is a good thing in this day and age when you go to chains and every other visit there is somebody new working the front or serving your food. The rice and noodles are very good, but I prefer the side dishes, which is usually the meat and vegetables served with steamed rice (I order it with fried rice, which is optional).Dont forget to order the potstickers for appetizers (best Ive ever had and that is saying a lot) and also an order of fried shrimp. The egg soup is really good and that comes with the meal. I have not tried their other soups, though. If we bring the whole family (Im talking 12 of us) we usually just go ahead and order the family style meals, plenty of food for everyone to share. Just us? and we order a few sides and a few appetizers, again to share. Perfect place for that kind of thing. Families and get-togethers.Never have tried their mixed drinks in the bar but heard they are good.

The best way to describe the food, the decor and the service is: bland. This restaurant had what was once the best Chinese food in town in the 90s, but with the advent of other Chinese restaurants and sadly, Panda Express, this restaurant has developed a growing reputation for serving food that is barely considered as passable Chinese food. The bar is dark and uninviting like what you would expect from some cheap airport bar that needs to have half of their lights replaced. I hope the owners of this restaurant cut their losses and sell, so some other developer can come in and make a better class restaurant thats appropriate to the downtown renaissance that is happening.

Im downgrading my review from 4 stars to 2 stars. I ordered $80 in delivery. My hot chicken salad didnt come with any dressing. My special Cantonese Kung Pao chicken chow mein came as special pork chow mein. And for my entire order, we were given 3 soy sauce packets. Which isnt enough for everyone having some of the pork fried rice.Theyre getting to keep 2 stars because it only took 45 minutes for them to correct the error with the salad.Honestly not sure if or when Ill be ordering again.

Food is good, although I must admit a bias because its what I grew up on. They do make the only egg flower soup Ill eat. Its doest have the gross jelly texture a lot of places have. The fried shrimp is great. So is the pork fried rice and Kung POA cookie bowl. Service is generally pretty good, sometimes they seem to have an off day. The Mai Tai is amazing.

Love the dishes and the value for the price. Usually we take the whole family, which is an excellent experience. Everybody gets what they want and there is usually something for everyone. Most of the dinner combinations are rice, noodles with one of many dishes. I like sweet and sour so there is sweet and sour chicken or ribs, etc. However, this last time we got the family style dinners, which is really a good way to feed the family.There are five or so items all served family style to share with each other so you get to try a little bit of everything. Hubby loves the soup and shrimp and ribs. I like the rice and noodles. Kids love the buddha in the front (rub his tummy for good fortune).Food is definitely unique... weve had other chinese restaurants and there are dishes here that you wont find anywhere else. Love it!

First time here. Maybe its just me....but the atmosphere was depressing (circa 1980?), the wait at table from order to food was quite long (and even longer for check), and the food was very average. I might have expected too much since this is a famous place in Bakersfield (so Ive been told).
