Updated review 8/8/2023: My friend told me about the new Korean BBQ flavor at Bonchon and I came over to try it. It was delicious. Since it was just me this time, I only ordered the small combo (6 wings, 3 drumsticks) $16.55. It was sweet with a hint of BBQ flavor. Theres something special about that signature Bonchon crunch, made from overly thick batter. Surprisingly, there werent any weird oil aftertaste that linger after eating a meal accustomed with oily fried foods. I did drink a lot of water though. Well done staff at Bonchon. Again. I do love their fried chicken.Original review: 8:45pm on a Friday night. The chicken crispiness varies by Bonchon locations. This one ranks in the middle. My friends say the downtown SF location is the crispiest. We ate at the restaurant so, it is not due to to-go lead time. I never knew Bonchon had table service. We usually ordered to-go or eat outside at their San Mateo location. We started with a large soju $20 and a blue moon beer $5.50. Most of the soju favors were out so we resorted to mango. The soju was not strong and contained mostly juice. The wait time goes by faster because there are TVs and alcohol. For the starters, we got the popcorn shrimp $12.75 and zucchini fries $8.55. These were OK. They werent flavorful. I would have preferred some popcorn chicken from Quicklys but they were not taking orders after 8:30pm. For the main dish, we ordered medium combo half and half $30. We asked for extra spicy and Bonchon did not disappoint. The fried chicken was great. So crispy! Some of the soy garlic chicken was too salty though. Service was alright. This meal put big smiles across our faces :)

First time here, visiting with my kids for my daughters graduation. Ordered the spicy chicken tacos, which were really good. Also got boneless chicken and chicken tenders. Their seasoned fries are a must have. Good portion sizes. I left feeling full. Will definitely go check out their San Diego location when I get home. Their staff was very friendly. We didnt wait very long for our food and it came out hot and fresh. Thanks for a great experience!

Years after their opening, I finally tried this place out. The restaurant is on the smaller side but this place seems to do most of their business with takeout and delivery orders. My boyfriend and I were seated right away and we liked that there were TVs all around. Service was great. Our server provided great recommendations and was attentive.

It was a chance discovery of this new Bonchon outlet in South San Francisco... and a pleasant one at that. If you like Korean Fried Chicken, this place will be an absolute delight. The restaurant is clean, the service is prompt and friendly. The menu isnt overly extensive but suffices the craving for Korean. We ordered a combo of Soy Garlic and Spicy fried chicken, an Avocado Salmon Ball (1,000+ calories!) and Japchae. Couldnt fault anything of what we ordered!

It’s been a minute since I’ve Bonchon. Came here with the family for Mother’s Day. Wait wasn’t too bad. Service was great! Attentive staff.Food came out in all sorts of order. Chicken came out before the appetizer but not by much. Chicken was just as good as the first time I’ve gone to Bonchon. Since it’s been a while since I’ve uploaded anything, my pictures have gone down a bit lol. I’m missing a bunch of items we ordered. I’ll remember to take more next time.Definite place I’d go back to.

Quite a busy spot with a diverse crowd united by love of Korean fried chicken. The service was quite good, fast and courteous.Had the small combo with half spicy and half garlic soy. The drumsticks varied in size quite a bit, some were truly enormous. The crispy outer coating did an excellent job of sealing in the juiciness of the meat. Both sauces were tasty though I preferred the spicy one.Also had an order of the pork belly buns... Very Americanized flavor, not savory enough to balance out the sweetness. Plus the buns were cold and a bit unpleasant.Good for an occasional hankering for KFC, the other options Ill take a pass in the future.

Awesome food! Im not sure what magic they put into their chicken but its crispy and seasoned so uniquely that I think its the most delicious chicken Ive ever had. We ordered the promo platter for under $18 and it came with more crispy, tasty chicken than we could finish. Friendly service and a cozy atmosphere.

Havent been here in a while and when friends suggested that we should eat in the area we decided on coming here to Bonchon. I definitely love me some Korean fried chicken so I was definitely down.We decided to get a large combo for the four of us and we got half soy garlic, and half Korean barbecue. I believe Korean barbecue is one of their newest sauces. We also ordered tteokbokki to share. The food came out, it was nicely hot. You get large drumsticks and a bunch of wings and drumettes. We opted for one order of coleslaw and one order of pickled radish for our sides.The wings are nicely fried, although some of them had the coating falling off, The meat itself was really juicy and the flavors were good. I really loved the pickled radish. The tteokbokki was so delicious and perfectly spicy. I could definitely eat that sauce on top of some rice. I really love the kimari in the dish.Staff is friendly and quite attentive. Ill definitely be back if I am craving some Korean fried chicken.

If you like fried chicken, you gotta try this place. Although I feel like their chicken is a bit underseasoned, the crunch of the crispy outer layers totally makes up for it. This is an Asian inspired establishment, mostly Korean. I wouldnt say they are very authentic, but they are definitely unique. Ive had them quite a few times, and I would continue to go back. The chicken is well battered and is either done with a soy garlic, hot sauce or both. They have other popular Korean dishes done their style, such as Japchae, Bibimbop and Bulgogi. They even have soju! Offered with about a half dozen of flavors. The dining area is modernized and appearance is clean. They have a good size bar. Television screens are staggered around the walls. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. They always seem busy, but not to the point where I have ever needed to wait to be seated. Do know that they are a bit on the pricey side for what it is and unfortunately they are situated in a plaza with horrible parking - whoever the F designed the parking area must not drive at all and do not have any care for safety. If you like crispy well battered fried chicken, do give this place a try. I think its definitely worth a shot!

If you order soy garlic or any flavored wings make sure you tell them to coat all of the wing, I ordered 20 piece SOY GARLIC wings and when I got back home (15 mins away) 80% of the wings was plain with no sauce on it… I called them and they said the best they could do is have me drive all the way back to remake them when I had already drove 15 mins there and back to my house only to do it again :/ UNSATISFACTORY

Came here after picking up my family from the airport. Always love their chicken! Got the 30 piece half and half soy garlic/spicy (be careful it is really spicy),spicy Boneless wings, and bulgogi Fried rice! Pickled Radish and Cole slaw for sides. The service was very good! I ordered the cheese buldak and soy garlic drumsticks. Warning: the cheese buldak is quite spicy. If you think you can normally handle spice, think again, but if you like spicy (and I mean SPICY🌶️🌶️🌶️), then itll be fine. Fried chicken was dry and could use sauce on the side. Love the chicken here, it really is the best. They have other Korean basics, but really you just come here for the chicken. Its crunchy on the outside with great flavor and moist and juicy on the inside. Bonus - its right next to Paris Baguette, so after youve stuffed your face with awesome chicken you can go next door and get some awesome pastries!

Bonchon makes hella crispy wings. The spicy sauce is excellent - tasted like a mix of gochujang and soy. Prices at this spot is $$$ - set me back $30+ for a lunch for myself and my son. That being said, they have big portions and sold flavors. Doesnt measure up to local Korean spots, but this is not bad for fast casual.

(Strips were my personal fave bc they are boneless and have way more meat, others preferred the classic wings because the crispy breaded part to meat ratio was just right)... overall delicious! Their signature sauce was different this time. The soy garlic sauce was mostly salt. Filled up on water instead of food. Service was okay;however, dont give us the bill when we are NOT half way done eating. Just plain RUDE. Other eating establishments would say, thank you and good night when you leave, but NOT one person here. Save your money and spend it elsewhere, anywhere except this place. Not going back or recommend this place.

Best location in the bay, and Ive been to a few. The one in South SJ is a close second. Chicken stayed crispy and hot all the way til the last piece. Our server was hella cool. She made us feel very comfortable. Of course, the peach soju helped. Im most definitely coming here again despite being closer to the Sunnyvale location, where our server was from.

Sure its the best Korean and fried chicken in the area, but if youre willing to drive an extra ten minutes (or wait longer for delivery), there are far better Korean and fried chicken joints. The fried chicken and sauces are pretty good. I would prefer that they offered thighs in addition to wings and drumsticks. We also enjoyed their other Korean dishes, though their katsu sauce is a little sweet for me (I generally like things less sweet).We have experienced slow service and dishes brought to the table quite some time apart, enough to prompt us to ask if our order had been forgotten. This is less of a problem if everyone is sharing everything.Parking can be a little crazy in this shopping center parking lot. It generally quite busy and only has two ways in and out.

The fries came out soggy and the chicken as well. It completely defeats the purpose of eating bonchon chicken. I have a “feeling” that this was possibly a cancelled order and it was placed into my order. There’s no way the fries and the chicken should be soggy at all. In addition, they did not even include my side radish that was included in my order with the chicken.Another reason not to order is when they are busy, they will not meet the expectations of how the chicken should taste.I tried calling to address my complaints but the line was busy. Never order for delivery ever from this restaurant. If you do, might as well go to any chicken restaurant because it will taste the same. Complete waste of $60 worth of order.Sunnyvale bonchon taste so much better. This happened to me twice. 1st time I stopped coming for a few years and recently I gave them a chance to redeem themselves and they failed.I reached out to the owner and no response. Waste of time. Never coming back again.

I was debating giving it two stars rather than three but overall the food tasted good. So first off, the wings were small and very skimpy. Not sure if it’s always like that, and they were extremely dry as well. Second, I ordered steamed rice and got something totally different. Third, the rice was really mushy and wet still. Lastly the customer service!!! This lady that took our order, mine and my husbands, she was so rude when my husband brought the food back and told her what was wrong! They said they couldn’t do anything about his wings and that’s fine I understood that but then when he brought up the stuff we were given rather than rice, she went back and forth with him, showing him the receipt and continuously claiming we asked for the item we had. FINALLY after the third time of going back and forth with the lady she said she would “see what she could do” and brought us the rice. She was sarcastic, rude, argumentative, and she dressed like a slob. She had a loose t shirt on, her hair in a half messy bun, baggy sweats, and a pair of dirty vans on. I’ve worked in customer service before and that is not how you treat people. She was extremely careless and rude. We come from Lodi where they have a Bonchon locally and we love the food so of course we had high expectations for this location as well. They need to do something about that girl she shouldn’t be working with customers.

Been here so many times. Always a great place to have some korean fried chickens. The only problem is on peak time the wait could took more than 30 minutes even for a table of 2. Everything else was perfect.Oh and by the way their spicy fried chicken could be too spicy for some people, but YMMV.

Been here a few times. Its usually pretty good, but the last time I went there it gave me horrible food poising. Its too bad cause I liked it, but I dont think I can bring myself back there. I ate the chicken and the coleslaw. Im fairly certain it was salmonella, so apparently the chicken was not prepared very cleanly.

Came here on a Sunday night around 7pm, there was a small wait list, but once we were seated the line got really long. Side note, the parking lot is busy, but it wasnt hard finding a space. The fried chicken is not greasy at all. The spicy is pretty spicy, my lip turned numb but it was a good spicy. The garlic is a little sweet. You get to pick two sides, we got kimchi for both, they also severed it with some pickled radish (dikon). The Salmon avocado ball was way over priced to have rice with avocado and cucumber with a thin sliced of broiled salmon. It was good, but it was tiny. I would go back if I wanted to get some fried wings, but other than that, the other stuff was average. The season fries were nothing special, no special season, served with ketchup.

Got recommended this place by several friends, so decided to try it out and was not disappointed.There is a mix of variety of food here and the staff was very friendly. They have their menu posted on their door, on their website, and have takeout menus available.Delicious menu options and service at that time, even with walking in and ordering, the wait wasnt too long either.Would recommend to anyone interested.

Bonchon restaurant is very expensive. Even lunch special is very expensive. Prices do not match portions of food. For whole two small chicken wings and small two drums ( fried with thick breaded) cost $ 11.50. I didn’t understand why the calorie are too low…

Firstly I want to say that Im the biggest fan of the Bon Chon franchise. Ive frequently eaten their korean fried chicken since 2015, in various cities. And NEVER have I noticed a difference in any of the locations, until I got it from this location, South San Francisco. The quality/preparation of the fried chicken here is well below par. And they often give the incorrect type of chicken (strips/wings/drums), messing up your order.

Fried chicken.You cant go wrong with Korean fried chicken. The lunch special is perfect for lunch. Daikon comes complementary, so pick an additional side dish to go with the fried chicken. Beer and cider are on tap, and lots of sports channels on the many TVs make this a great sports/food bar.

Bonchon is my new go-to place for fried wings!I can always count on this place to satisfy any cravings I have for wings.Unlike other wings place, Bonchon doesnt overdo it with the sauce.The wings are always crispy with just the right amount of sauce that is not too overwhelming.Besides the wings, I also really enjoy the Bulgogi fried rice. I have recently just started ordering it, and my goodness! I love it! I like to order mine extra spicy for that nice kick. And then the Bulgogi meat adds a little bit of sweetness to the fried rice, packing the dish with a sweet and spicy flavor. The seafood fried rice is good as well, but I still prefer the Bulgogi fried rice.The potstickers are great for starters. Ask for double glazed or extra hot if you dare!The staff are always welcoming and friendly. Special shoutouts to Minh, Jeniece and Penny for always being helpful.
