Wow this place is great. Super interesting, fresh new american food with fantastic service. We forgot our leftovers and the kind gentleman came running after us! Cozy cool place. Great value for quality of food. 40 mezze menu has wide variety, fills you up and includes a glass of wine. Also the oysters are bomb.
I have to say it: Best Restaurant in Marin. Intimate and inviting lighting. Tasteful decor. Small, but permissibly intimate. Real bees wax candles at the table; a delight to the olfactory (devil - details). Down-to-earth young, genuinely friendly, and helpful staff.. Amazing food! All of it. Great wine list (try the Peay Chardonnay). All-in-all, tip top.
It was ok not quite what it is being made out to he. Meat could habe been more.tender asparagus a bit overdone. Wine not the best service could do with knowing more about how to explain their dishes clearly if you are a friend of the place you are warmly.welcomed!
Best pizza in downtown Mill Valley! The pepperoni, white pie, and mixed greens are our faves. Super nice staff, cozy vibe, and offers to go food.
Sit at the counter. We had the 10-hour ribs, the baked ricotta hot pot, miyagi oysters, and watching Todd and the guys in the kitchen work their magic was the best part ! Great menu, great vibe, and a rad vinyl playlist. Coming back soon !
Im going to start writing reviews like this: GO.This is easily in the top 10 of the entire Bay Area IMHO, especially because it isnt a tired approach, nor too edgy. Its a very appropriate and homey spot for Marin & Mill Valley, and firing on 12 cylinders like an under the radar supercar should. =)Ive reviewed enough people trust me, and know I like multi-coursed dinners whether at a pizza joint or in fine dining. I just like gluttony. But this is the perfect marriage of modern fine dining and hip, without the hip feeling like Portlandia. That being said, youd think a vinyl music play list to border along those lines, but its tasteful, and YES... as the night progresses, the busy kitchen and staff abandon worrying about the playlist and just operate the restaurant. As a vinyl DJ with a residency who has also worked in the kitchen and front of house in multiple situations... HOW CAN THEY DO THAT? Well, they dont make it a thing. Thats how. But this place is a thing... and I can tell you I am disappointed I waited this long.Were back this Friday, in fact... so thanks Marjorie!! =)Course 1 -OYSTERS EVERYWHERE, and they were fantastic... no mignonette, but its all prepped just to slide into the mouth, and enjoy with whatever topping they decide.The Pickles are an arrangement of different veggies, and I wouldnt miss this. They are that good. I am not a huge pickled cucumber fan, but the way they pickle is tasty as it gets.Course 2 -Smoked pork ribs with charred broccoli, mae ploy, mortared nuts, and cilantro. They are breezy... if, say, you didnt like cilantro, tell them and its not there. The ribs were phenomenal.Monterey squid cast iron w/ shishito peppers, Carolina gold rice, and carrot escabeche. The latter part being a tasty foam sauce that really compliments the dish. Also fantastic. Actually, that applies to everything.Seared Albacore with broken avocado, lemon cucumber, and preserved lemon with olives. I coveted this dish and shared far less than I should have with my two special lady friends.We paired the front end w/ 2014 Chateau Coussin La Croix du Prieur Grenache Blend from Cotes de Provence... a lovely apricot not too pink Rose. Earthy notes, not too much fruit/floral and very old world, or at least they valiantly lay down to the acidity and minerality.Course 3 -I drink Oregon Pinots to the point it annoys my wife, so I thought something bigger for our main entrees, and it was SUPERB. I picked out a Northwest Syrah that was VERY SURPRISING - 2011 Fausse Piste from Amador Vineyard in Columbia Valley, OR. Most of the up & comers grapes are from Washington, but his various Fausse Pist incarnations are likely to make you happy... adopting the northwests soil into an older world, far more complex wine than a Sonoma counterpart. WATCH JESSE SKILES. WATCH HIM CLOSE.McFarland Springs Trout w/ cauliflower (which they made delicious, BTW, something hard to do for my nemesis cauliflower)Pork Chop with yellow peach, bacon vinaigrette, chopped almonds, and flowering thyme.These two entrees were sublime.Course 4 -Blackberry Cake w/ Creme fraicheStone Fruit Crumble w/ whipped goat cheeseSuperb desserts... not over-sweet, skillfully made.and of course.... 2013 Chateau Roumieu-Lacoste Semillon Sauternes and possibly partying with the staff, a bit. I think we are meant to come in and stamp with them.
Shhh...dont tell anyone...this place is really good. Have only tried the nonsavory breakfast items (they appear to be purposely not overly sweet). Our favorites were the apricot morning bun and the chocolate croissant. Glad to have you in Mill Valley, Bootjack.
Cheff Todd Shoberg and his crew create a lovely dining experience in their cozy space. Perfectly lit and full of beautiful things the space is reason enough to dine here. Then the food is delivered to you straight out of their 1000+ degree wood fired oven (I think everything but the fries are cooked in this oven) and you forget where you are as the interesting and perfectly matched flavors take over.This place is a great way to conclude a Marin excursion for those of us that live here on the east side of the bay.
Really cozy, upbeat atmosphere - rustic but lively. Menu has a lot of panache. Would love more seafood or dairy free options.

2020-11-21 06:27:50We are basically living on this bread! It is sooo good! Monday morning after breakfast I grind up 4-5 tomatoes, pour them into a sauté pan, drizzle olive oil all over it, add crushed garlic, sea salt, and chopped basil, put the heat on low, and by snack time at 10:00 it has transformed into a delicious spread that we put on thick slices of toasted bootjack bread. There seriously is no better snack.

2019-04-19 01:23:30Excellent pizza and an excellent beet salad. I tried the market special pizza once which had bacon and asparagus, and then the sausage pizza the second time. Both were cooked perfectly. Delicious crust. Way to go guys.

2021-06-13 08:12:01The pastries are amazing! I’ve only been here for coffee in the morning and have enjoyed everything I’ve tried so far. There’s usually a line then so be warned if you’re planning to grab a coffee and run!I would come here more often if they had some way of allowing customers who are only getting a coffee or just know what they want to get through the line faster. I applaud the staff members who patiently wait while somebody takes a full twelve minutes to order two drinks and two pastries, but it’s a collective waste of time when there’s a line building up outside the door. I wish I could give Bootjack 5 stars since they can’t really choose their clientele, but I’ve left the line twice thinking this is might be an efficiency problem.

2014-05-24 00:34:39Ive been there 4 times. Each time it has been first-rate. The best steak Ive had, period. Even beats NYC and Brooklyn steak. Great fish. Great vegetarian dish. Unpretentious and great bang for the buck. My new fave in Mill Valley, and one of my first choices in all of Marin.

The other side dishes are delicious as well with the meatballs and salads being standouts. They also sell Fieldwork beer, breaking the grip of the ever present Fort Point that has taken over Mill Valley. If youre a beer drinker, this is reason enough to go. The staff, again, are the most accommodating and friendly Ive encountered in Mill Valley. You wont be disappointed.

2021-01-03 05:56:40They forgot part of our order and I did not enjoy the way I was treated afterwards. When I came back to tell them that the half loaf of country sandwich bread we ordered was missing, knowing that other people were in the line, I politely asked if they wanted me to wait outside or wanted to handle it now. A young woman came out from the back of the store and talked to me in a loud voice with an aggressive tone, When did you order? I said around 20 min ago. Then she said they ran out of that sandwich and asked me to come back tomorrow without any apologies or any efforts to work things out for me. I said we were just visiting and would not come back tomorrow for it. She then left to serve another customer, without apologizing for missing part of our order. Her voice and unapologetic words made me feel awkward like she thought I was lying. Her colleague—a tall, calm, sweet girl—who had taken our order 20 min ago, apologized and was nice enough to offer me either a refund or a substitute. She was kind and gentle. She was the reason I did not give it one star. I felt that I was treated with respect by her, but not the other woman. This situations made me wondered if Id be treated differently had I been a white person, or better, a white man. The food was good but not worth coming back for.

2019-03-03 02:07:57Limited menu but your money is right on the food. Pizzas were made to perfection(we had the White pizza). Im a discard the pizza crusts kinda girl, with a healthy dose of disdain. But here, my gosh. The crust was airy and buttery and I just gobbled everything! We also had the wood fire chicken and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend this spot to satisfy your pizza and roast chicken cravings. Service was attentive and friendly to boot!

2016-06-27 06:15:32Really good food with fresh ingredients, cooked in the fireplace just next to you. You can see how your food is getting to be ready. Frequent changing menu, for meat-eaters and for vegetarians. Nice staff, very helpful with good recommendations also concerning local beer.
