This place is great! Sandwich bread is always fresh. The sandwiches are a good size. The staff is awesome always polite and funny. They actually talk to you as more than a customer.Try the Dean it is great!. Sandwiches are not overpriced and they did not raise the prices like a lot of places have. Go see them.
I’ve been here a few times and the food is really good. If you’re trying to eat clean and light this is the spot for you. Very very very nice people.

WARNING: CASH ONLY.Oh my gosh, what can I say about this place? Its so unique and neat. You go through one side of the building to order, which isnt much to look at, and then you go to the other side of the building to pay, pick up your order, and eat. It looks like a huge converted barn with a tin roof and lots of foliage and vintage decor. Reminds me of the 60s, very natural and earthy. A hippies dream. Unlike any restaurant Ive ever been in. Very rustic. There is a patio as well for outdoor dining. I always say I would love to eat there on a rainy day to hear the rain drops hit the tin roof, but I have yet to do so. Moderately priced, decent sandwiches. Second on my list of sandwich shops next to The Sandwich Shop. Very relaxing atmosphere, always a crowd at lunchtime, but they are super fast and very friendly. Just dont forget to BRING CASH.
Friendly employees, good pricing and the best sandwiches in town (if not just in general). I wanted to get a second sandwich just because of how delicious it was! Love the scenery outside and rustic interior. The only problems are: 1) Its a lunch place, so its difficult for me to get there around my work schedule. 2) Parking is scarce downtown. 3) It is cash only, if I remember correctly. Its good to know ahead of time.

You can ask them to build your own sandwich, or order whats on the menu. Add some chips and a drink and your comfortably full.I love the (Dean), its so delicious . I also love the outdoor atmosphere on the patio.All the plants, the calmness, a very sweet staff that makes just what you want.Even though you are downtown its like a hidden getaway from the hussle and bustle of everyday life. I feel like I can take a deep breathe and relax when Im there.I recommend, Brighter Side to anyone, that wants a great sandwich and nice atmosphere!

I LOVE this place! Its that little hole in the wall place that only the locals know about. Its only open on the weekdays and closes mid-day. Ive been going for years & always seem to get the Annie. The sandwiches r super fresh, but i like certain veggies on my sandwiche, like purple onion, they only have grn onion, whole peppers, n pickles. They do not accept debit cards, so i had to run across the street to the atm. I didnt care for that at all i had to pay a $3.00 fee for a withdrawal. Hated that! But they r super nice n very welcoming. So they get an extra ☆!!! Thank U Brighter Side!!!
Quaint and quirky little sandwich shop that has been a favorite lunch spot of my familys for 40 years.Found myself back in the hometown and had to hand the memories down to the next generation.PS. Forgot it was cash only, and they couldnt have been kinder about it.
Fantastic sandwiches! Unusual entrance, but that is what adds to the charm. When facing the restaurant enter on the far left. Write your order down (index card for eating there, paper bag for to-go) and then proceed through the next door. Kind of a hidden treasure in modesto I personally have been going to the brighterside for over 30 years and for good reason its family owned and opperated with a tried and true formula they follow. They re only open on weekdays and only for about 5 hours for lunch. Great sandwhiches with a great atmosphere stop by sometime and you wont be disappointed, two thumbs up.
A large portion of Brighter Side’s charm is the rustic gas station repurposed as a sandwich shop that evokes a 60s nostalgia for everything hippy. I lived through the 60s, and I prefer the rose-colored glasses we get with Brighter Side.After eating lunches in several places around downtown Modesto, I feel Brighter Side is absolutely the best sandwich and salad shop in the area. Thanks for a great lunch.
The guy that answered sounded like he was asleep and didnt want to be bothered. When I asked if they had a salad with chicken, cranberries and feta, he said no. He did not offer any other salads or sandwiches, was dry and not friendly. I would have been a first time customer. No thank you.

Will never go back ever. no one said hello or anything. There was two ladys in front of us. They waited for about five mins before ordering. And he said hello ladys and took the order. Ok so and my son are up we wait another 3 mins still no word. He says order thru that door and and points at a door off to the side and says come back in here to get your food. All of this and still no hello sorry for the wait or anything. Didnt even make eye contact to us just directed his voice towards us. Ill never ever come here agian. And its out dated and dusty.

Ordering is confusing (a separate entrance), service was slow and absent-minded. Only accepted cash, which I was lucky to have on hand (I rarely do these days). Food would have to be pretty wonderful to be worth that hassle, but it was a typical sandwich, nothing particularly noteworthy. I could make a quick trip to the grocery store and make the same thing at home.

2023-12-06 21:04:40Got the bobby q and a couple of drinks. Food is incredibly cheap, but that quality is still amazing. The staff was very friendly and I can definitely see myself becoming a regular here. The scenery both inside and the back patio is absolutely gorgeous and could see people coming simply to take photos here. Overall a great experience and I will be back.

Food came out fast, we got The Dean and the Skye sandwiches. Both were very good and decently priced. They also have unique bottled sodas and chips. Cash only business.

2023-07-05 19:16:27We have been to Brighter Side before and have always had excellent food and service. I enjoy the atmosphere and like eating on their patio and listening to the water feature. They have friendly service, and the food quality is excellent! I enjoy the Christine sandwich with added Turkey… I remember to take a picture half way through the meal. The salads are excellent too. Reasonably priced and healthy!

It is cash only but if you forget there is a Wells Fargo across the street. Ive been going here for years on and off. Seriously great food and great customer service! Outdoor patio dining option is splendid during warm sunny days. The staff is super friendly and often make good conversation with customers. Great place to stop for a quick bite including salads and sandwiches. Wish I had photos to share, next time!

I ordered the Genora sandwich that had roast beef, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. It’s a warm sandwich and very delicious. The people here are very friendly. I highly recommend Brighter Side! I will definitely return for lunch here. BRING CASH 💰. They don’t accept cards.

2018-02-06 20:56:05If you feel like having a sandwich, this is the place to go in Modesto. Each sandwich is freshly made. There are a lot of choices so it took a while for me to decide. I had a vegetarian choice. It had lots of avocado and sprouts. My husband had the Nicholas, like a Ruben, and was also pleased. Well be back.
