Ordered takeout on their website and picked it up at the store. located on clement street around a lot of other asian restaurants and bakeries. prices are pricey for banh mi in SF but quality was good and they have some unique items like the duck banh mi.// grilled pork banh mi (11.50) //i ordered this banh mi with most of the options on it. i was satisfied with the amount of meat and vegetables in my banh mi. the grilled pork was good and i liked the pickled veggies and sauce. there was a jalapeño that added a kick to it.i appreciate that you can select what you want inside and theres an option to get two halves individually wrapped which is nice.id come back if i was in the area. definitely have had much cheaper banh mi in SF but this one tasted good!

5 stars for the service, 3-4 stars for the food. The two gentlemen working the front are absolutely delightful. First, the cashier seemed happy to take my order and was patient with the modifications I had to my order. When the server came with our one bowl of pho, he saw that we were two people and without prompt asked if we were sharing and offered to bring another bowl and set of chopsticks and spoon. That was such a thoughtful gesture. All the employees were playful with each other, and it seemed like a great work environment. The food was fresh but not that special, pretty meh. Ill give 5 stars for the great experience I had.

Great value Vietnamese food. They have a wide variety of options for bahn mi sandwiches. The vermicelli bowls were good but I felt it could use more pickled daikon and carrot. The shaken beef rice plate was ok. Only a few tables inside to sit at.

One of the best Banh Mi sandwiches Ive ever eaten. I ordered the Smokey Vegetarian...its got portobello mushrooms and eggplant. Wait, I just noticed they have Shaken Beef Salad! Im definitely going to try that next time.The guys at the table next to us had pho. That really looked good too.Judging by the continual flow of people eating here and expanding and contracting line, this is a very popular place for lunch. This is a small restaurant, there arent a lot of tables. Looks like mostly takeout.The decor and atmosphere is basic cafe, but youre not here for the ambience. The quality food is the draw and the fresh ingredients and speak for themselves. Easily one of the best eateries on Clement.Grab a book at Green Apple and head over to Bunn Mi for lunch! Thats a fine Sunday afternoon.

This store did not have soap for hand wash. Well, they did but the dispenser wasn’t usable. They are not practicing a good hygiene habit.The cashier did not seem to like her job. I was there at the counter thinking my order was ready after waiting for about 15 mins for a sandwich. It was also me being the only customer, and she yelled at me saying my order was not ready yet. I can’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. Go grab dim sum instead of going here.

Great vegetarian option in the inner Richmond in San Francisco!i ordered the Buddha Tofu Vietnamese Bahn Mi sandwich. crunchy bread, nice crispy breaded tofu, and super fresh veggies/toppings. good amount of spice and i was very full.cheap prices - it was just $9 plus tax and tip. but also $2.50 for a water bottle since they won’t give you water lol.would be great for takeout, too. very fast!as far as ambiance: it’s a walk-up counter with an old school, efficient vibe. you’re here for a good time not for a long time, although the size of the clock would tell you otherwise.i’ll be back soon!

I order the Pho special. Pretty generous for noodle which is good for hungry tummies but the sliced meat quality is different from the Vietnamese restaurants I have had more lean meat basically just sliced beef. The price for a bowl Pho is $17+ is the higher side compare to a regular Vietnamese restaurant. The Vietnamese coffee came in a small cup. It has a lot acidity not too sweet than the Vietnamese I have had. I was not able to finish the the coffee.

I am here at least once every week to get my weekly bunn mi. Mainly the Buddha Tofu Bunn Mi which is packed with flavors. I have tried vegetarian Bunn mi at many places but the ginger sauce this place puts gives a kick. I generally like spicy food and this place can adjust the heat with green chillies and their sauces.The location is great, while here I generally pick up sesame ball dessert from one of the Chinese restaurants nearby and browse some books at the iconic green apple book store.

Cheap and filling. Took 2 minutes from ordering five spice chicken sandwiches to getting it. They bring to your table. They arent joking around with the spiciness of the sandwich. I have a high tolerance but that was hicup inducing. Only downside was 2 bones in the sandwich. Was about $8 for the meal

It was my second time trying this place and every time when I go there, one of the staff is very very nice. He is being trained I think. But he smiles every time! He is doing his best and I can see that but he is still new. But at least he shows that he cares about customer service which is great :) The lady taking my order is also smiley but she was a little busy I guess. The food wise is good. I tried Chicken noodle soup, a little too sweet for me but it was good. Next time I am going to try sandwiches!

Highly recommend the crispy duck banh mi sandwich! It was really exceptional!I also tried the Saigon noodle bowl but I wasnt a fan as its a bit dry with far less meat relative to noodle. The addition of an imperial roll was a nice touch though and it was tasty!

I really love the bahn mi’s here. I always get the Buddha tofu. The lemongrass sauce is what makes the sandwich, so I always order an extra sauce on the side because there’s usually not very much on the sandwich. They charge an extra dollar for one of those tiny sauce containers which is fine, I just wish they’d fill it up a little more sometimes. Sometimes they fill it up more but today it was only half full and I asked for a little more, but the lady working there said no which was kind of disappointing since I’m a regular customer. Hopefully that doesn’t become a regular thing, because I really enjoy eating their sandwiches.

Such a nice spot on Clement street! Love this area but haven’t had a chance to try the banh mis here. They were so good! Really recommend. The service was great as well. Tip for vegetarians: You can get the mushroom banh Mi and add tofu to it. It’s so good!!

Note to restaurant: Please update your prices online. It is not longer $5-$10 for a Banh Mi sandwich but rather $11. It is deceitful to not update prices.I do think the Banh Mi are delicious so I’ll give credit where it’s due. However, as the other reviewer mentioned, the bathroom is horrendously filthy, customer service is a hit or miss and the prices are higher than expected.

Pretty small place to eat.Just a handful of tables. Cash only place no creditcard but a ATM machine next to counter. Sandwiches were not bad. They were overstuffed with meat and shredded carrots. Soup was pretty good with the sandwich as a side. Lots of people order to go. Average prices were about $10 for most of the items. Parking is not easy and might be a challenge at certain hours of the day. I would come back for more.

Its Monday, June 22, 2020. Theyre open for take out, and they also have delivery. Temporary Limited hours M-F 10am-8pm and S-S 9am-8pm. They have a couple of tables & chairs outside but only to use while waiting for food. There are chairs inside as well but same thing - so you have a place to sit while waiting for your take away. Please wear masks and respect the social distancing. We ordered at the restaurant to go, food smelled delicious. Once we were able to get home, food was delicious!!!😋😍 ☺️

Love the banh mi here and it’s the only thing you should get. Highly recommend the crispy duck sandwich. Cold cuts/special banh mi was truly awesome as well (pro tip: cold cuts on toasted bread with extra pate & aioli and it’s basically Vietnamese fast food heaven). Very thick filling and looks sumptuous and tastes amazing. I had the crispy chicken sandwich and thought it was really good (added the Sriracha condiment for extra heat and flavor). The other 4 in the party thought the jalapenos were on their sandwiches were exceptionally hot but I didnt think so at all, so I ate all their peppers, too. Only reason I didnt go 5 stars (besides the fact this is not a 5-star kinda place and doesnt pretend to be) is that the servers took a long time getting the coffee and teas made -- Im talking a good 5 minutes after we had already gotten the food before the drinks were placed on the counter. Other than that, it is an above average place and does what it sets out to do; nothing more and nothing less.

Could use more mayo, hoisin sauce, and sriracha (I always add more at home).Vegetables: Like the meat, this sandwich is packed with vegetables. I appreciate the generosity of jalapeños and cilantro. The also include shredded cabbage which provides a fantastic crunch.Overall: 8.5/10 - Cafe Bunn Mi (NOT to be confused with Bun Mee) is one of the most popular Viet sandwich shops in the city for a reason. This place is cash only, but theres an ATM machine close by and also banks a couple blocks away. This place doesnt have that many seating, but its pretty cozy. The employees here are friendly and willing to take any additions or changes to your order. Ive only been hooked on their grilled pork sandwich and have not been able to try anything else. The pork is very flavorful with the slight sweetness of the veggies. I dont get it with jalapenos or onions. I do add a fried egg to it and just all of that together is so awesome. If called ahead they make it quickly as well as when you order there and wait. It takes about 10 minutes, but its worth the wait. Will be back here for plenty of lunches!

I am Vietnamese and I loved the banh mis here. We ordered combination pork and grilled pork. Cash only and the atm was out of service. However, the lady was nice enough to take the order anyways while my friend went to find other atms. Many closeby atms didnt accept his card so he took a long walk, so it was the inconvenience.Banh mi tasted nice in my opinion. Havent tried the other dishes so Cant tell.The shop is cute but the bathroom is nasty 😂 so I mean If you dont have a broken bladder like me even just for a quick snack time or might lose appetite because of this then it should be fine. Weve been big Cafe Bunn Mi fans for a long time, but as of recently they seem to have gone downhill. The food has always been decent, but their newer staff has frequently been rude, and have repeatedly forgotten to give us items weve paid for on our takeout orders, telling us to come back and tell us next time when we call about them.On our most recent phone order, they refused to give us the chicken wings we paid for on our previous order, claiming that they had no way of tracking it, and chose to believe I was lying about the mistake they promised theyd make up for.I hope the owners turn things around, because we miss Cafe Bunn Mi, but I dont feel comfortable supporting a business that treats regular customers like this.

Finally decent pho. Not just decent, but really good. Its been three months living here and I have been to about 10 pho restaraunts, 8 of which were just ok. Sadly have to give it 1 start, first bite of my vermicelli bowl was like a bowl of bland oatmeal, who knows when the cooked them, maybe a few days ago and the Lemon Grass stake was like a pile of canned meat. I havent been back since before Covid as I live out of state but used to visit regularly and eat here couple times over my SF visits, dont know if ownership changed or what but its like no one cares in there anymore, even the interior has turned into a greasy 1 Start quality, used to be fresh and clean last I went.I hate giving businesses bad ratings, unfortunately these days that seems to be the only thing that makes people care and clean up if at all.

Have been going here on and off since 2012. Best BBQ pork Bahn Mi in S.F. (and possibly in the world?). While other SF restaurants will serve you chewy gross packaged bread rolls with their rubbery pork reheated in a microwave, Cafe Bunn Mi only serve their sandwiches on crispy french bread here with juicy pork fresh off the grill. The synergy of all the flavors is amazing.Be sure to get the imperial rolls too, as nothing compares to those either.Their pho is also quite tasty but I dont recommend getting it as take out. Its so much better when its served up hot and the meat can cook in the broth. Definitely the dish to order when you dine inside.

Fried duck banh mi was bangin! Great bread and pickled veg, and flavourful fried duck thats decently fatty so that you dont miss the paté.Fried tofu banh mi was good not great -- the copious amounts of carrot was generous but lacking pickle juice or flavor, so the whole thing was a bit dry and heavy. Simple but nice place, with welcoming staff and a pretty good variety of Vietnamese dishes. Banh Mi is tasty and good quality but you should skip the spicy fries, which are not spicy. Maybe these are made in homage to the old nearby Indonesian Rice Table. But the chilis and herbals are not mixed in and the oil is flavorless. Good quality food, just kick the flavors up a notch.

I ate my first crispy duck bunn mi sandwich for the first time a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I had forgotten about the place and went back there yesterday to reconfirm the awesome flavor and I was more than impressed! This is the best bunn mi sandwich in the city. My wife got the tofu sandwich and that was awesome as well! The drinks are a little interesting - i havent had luck with that. The crispy duck sandwich is so tasty here! Fresh bread, crispy breaded duck and just the right amount of vegetable condiments. I requested it without the jalapenos--thats just my personal taste and Im glad it wasnt spicy but still flavorful with the aioli and pickled veggies. It gets pretty crowded at lunch time and there arent many tables, but if you wait patiently while your food order is being made, you might be lucky to grab a table as I think people dont linger too long over a yummy sandwich. I’ve tried the lemongrass steak bahn mi, five spice chicken bahn mi, crispy chicken bahn mi, and mushroom bahn mi. They are all fantastic - flavorful protein, sweet pickled carrots and radish, crunchy mini baguette bread. The added benefit is you can pick up your sandwiches without the plastic takeout bag (bring your own bag and drop the sandwiches in there). This makes it possible to support local businesses during COVID without damaging the environment. It’s our “go to” eco-friendly take out spot a few days a week.

I decided to come back here recently on my own to try their tofu bowl with vermicelli noodles.For $8, it was a satisfying meal. The bánh mì are more in the gourmet realm than your traditional staple ones. The tofu in the Buddha Tofu had a good texture and was flavored well - with a dry flavoring versus a sauce (as is often the case). The bánh mì are packed with both vegetables and the protein (i.e. its not all filler). While its a bit more expensive than a traditional bánh mì in SF, if youre looking for one thats a bit more fancy, this is well worth the price ($8).

Pretty rude to us when we called to order just cause we tried to order in Viet and the person who answered didn’t speak the language.
