This place is unbelievably good. Do not be deceived by its humble appearance, the food is mind-blowing! For $6 (As of July 2016) you can get a half order of veggie combo and $9.99 a full order. I was full with a half order. Everything is gluten free, they even have vegan options. To-go only, but you can sit outside at the tables.
I loved the carry out Ethiopian veggie meal. This, as far as I could tell, is the only thing on the menu. You can get a half or a full. I got the full. I am pretty sure it was vegan but it was so good I didnt care. I even enjoyed the stuffed jalapeño, which was not as hot as I thought it would be.
This place has a great health vegan food. The costume service is excellent. I definitely will come again.
Small little corner cafe. Not a lot of seating but it has a good vibe. The help was friendly and prompt. I ordered the beer battered fish and chips. It was very tasty and NOT over cooked like so many places do. It came with a nice cabbage slaw that was tasty too. There was a little jalepeno on it that gave it a little pop. I’m glad I have it a try.
Very tasty, freshly prepared, affordable quality authentic Ethiopian food. Grocery store. Very small, so takeout only. Some seating at couple small tables outside on sidewalk, right on Telegraph Ave., usually busy street. All vegan. Drink cooler inside. Have to purchase bottled water or other beverage to drink. Friendly service. Baklava has honey, so not vegan.
I’ve been coming here for years I live in the Central Valley and drive up to two hours just to have this delicious Ethiopian food I would recommend to anybody in Oakland to come here and try the combination plate the lentils are amazing I don’t know what the brown bread thing is but it’s my favorite part and it makes everything so good you can tell they really care about the process and making things authentic and it’s always good to support a local business
Best injera in Oakland. Great selection of spices to make all your traditional feasts. Great staff that greets you with a smile and can answer any questions you might have. Worth coming here for the veggi combo alone. FYI, this place is vegetarian only.
The store looked wonderful, clean, and had a great variety of Ethiopian groceries which is what drew me inside. But after the way I was treated today, I will never come back. I was looking for berbere and there were some unlabeled bags with red spice mixture inside that seemed to be it. I asked the lady at the counter if she could tell me what it was. She stared at me first like I was something dirty, then bites her nail and LITERALLY spits off to her side. As if thats not weird enough and definitely not sanitary, she then tells me Its too spicy for you. I tell her I dont mind and ask her again if she could tell me whats in it and she responds back I dont explain. Too much, too spicy for you. Lady, Im Asian, we also eat pretty darn spicy....but okay, I know when Im not wanted. I should have taken the hint after the spitting.I did nothing to offend her and nobody should be treated with that level of disrespect. I would not recommend anyone to come here, which is a shame because it actually looks like a lovely store.
This place is all about the veggie combo. Swing on and get a few to go and youve got dinner on the table before you know it. I cant speak to authenticity but what is authenticity anyway. Is it fresh injera and stuffed jalapenos? Maybe. Perhaps good is all it takes.
They are an Awesome spot on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland. They have gluten free injara... So excited and yummy vegetarian Ethiopian food. They have a cooler with various drinks. I met the daughter of the owner whose amazing. Go visit Blums neighborhood.
This food is so good! You can tell she cooks with love! Real food, cant be beat! My husband and I have both been craving it since the last time we ate there. Go! Eat!
Amaziiiiingly delicious food! Injera is top-notch and Dariye is the best. She is kind, warm, and always greets you with a smile. You dont feel like youre entering a store but the home of a relative or good neighbor. Great products and amazing service.
Very nice cafe with good Ethiopian food, spices, and my favorite Injera. They even have gluten free injera to sale for $5 for 5 pieces I believe. Really good deal!
Amazing and exploding with flavor. Only one item on the menu and you get to choose out of 2 different portions. Highly recommend this spot, perfect amount of spiciness.

Good customer service and the food is good. I always get the vegetarian half order plate. The coffee is also really good. I believe the coffee is straight from Ethiopia.

2022-05-19 00:18:38I’ve been coming to this place for a couple of years and when they reopened after COVID I was super happy. I sometimes get the Full order but I’ve always GOT the half order with a Jalapeño. This is the first time I’ve ever received a tiny box. Usually both orders come in a one size box but the quantity is different. Also, Ethiopian food SHOULD not come cluttered in such a small compartment as this destroys the quality of the food. The quality & integrity of this place has significantly declined. Had the owner simply advised that their sizes and packaging has changed, I would’ve accepted. However, she continued to say “I’m the owner and this is how it’s always been.” This is completely flawed and as entrepreneurs integrity and quality of customer care should be priority. Usually when they mess up my food, I don’t say anything but the audacity of the blatant lie to my face was disrespectful. I definitely will not return to this place!

There isnt any indoor seating, and the outdoor tables are quite small so its definitely a place to dine solo or with one other person.Full plate was a decent size, half order wouldve been too small in my opinion. The food here isnt as expensive as other Oakland Ethiopian spots and its pretty good. Cheesecake wasnt the best though, it was reminiscent of daiya cheesecake and Im just not into that flavor.I love that they sell various other goodies here like bulk ingredients, spices, grains, teacups, pans, etc.

It’s all vegan and the bread is gluten free!(unbelievable for the taste) the staff is nice! Is a lovely family business. I tried several others places and I can tell never like here.

Parking can be a challenge in this area, just as a warning. You wouldnt know by walking by what an amazing meal is served here....the counter is in the back and the storefront is filled with Ethiopian dry goods and cooking wares. Its a gem of a find!

2018-10-23 13:09:13Ive been to Cafe Dareye twice and the food is consistently delicious. The full platter is enough to satiate my big appetite but realistically may be enough to feed 2 (depending how hungry you are). Its a small mom and pop type shop that also sells other Ethiopian items such as a badge, other pastries and various spices, herbs, teas and even cookware. Each time I was there service was friendly and prompt. The full veggie platter is $12. Enjoy!!

2019-04-06 23:10:56My wife and I love this place. The food is exceptional considering its only $12 for a full combo meal. They serve one dish and they nail it. Also, its only take out, but eating on the patio is usually quite lovely. Highly recommend.
