Agree with others. A good half day detourWe stayed in the campground which has good hookups but very rough ground.We enjoyed the little train ride and the visit to the mine.
Enroule from la to l’as Vegas this place used to be a mining town now a tourist attraction gives us a up close window to the past of American mining history, worth a visit if you have time; it’s a family attraction
First thing i have to say, going to the train is NOT handicap accessible at all. My grandmother with a knee condition has to use a walker. She had to strain herself to go down and up the stairs to the train and back. Other than that, the staff at the shops are friendly and i would recommend going here still.
It was ok but run down and could be so much more. I didnt like that you paid an entrance fee but then had to pay for anything else you wanted to do once you were in (train ride, mine shaft etc). I was disappointed that it wasnt what it could have been...it has so much potential.
Our family visited the ghost town for its Halloween activities. We really enjoyed the costume contest, the Sanderson Sisters on stage, the gun shoot-out.
This is a historically and interesting ghost town! We had an enjoyable time exploring all the little stores and the surrounding hillside. It is full of artifacts from the past and is well worth the fees for the general entrance.
If you never been, you need to go and check it out. Great History,Food and Entertainment for the family. Campgrounds are excellent place to RV camp.
Quirky and fun, this ghost town is a great place to spend a couple of hours and feel like you tra. Cute stores and awesome views. Make sure to bring a hat or umbrella.
Good and well maintained place for a family outing. You can get a good look around in 2-3 hours. Nice photo opportunities as well. The restaurants inside the ghost town are not highly rated. Recommend to eat at Yermo or Barstow.
This is a great little attraction, old mining buildings, a railroad, food, gifts, and a great RV park. This perfect location near Yermo, CA, has OHV riding directly from the park. It is also a perfect location to overnight when traveling across this section of the country. Full hookups for the a/c when its 90 out.
D17 and D16 are a pile of rocks. Spent the first few hours clearing a spot to put my tent. Other sites look better maintained.Update:Gave Calico one more try. Booked O19 and Cabin 01. That side is much nicer. Clean bathrooms, showers, cabins had ac, and site was nice and flat. Will definitely come again.
Loved this place as a kid and loved it even more with my kids. Worth the trip. Theyve done a great job! Super fun.
This is really a review of the Calico Ghost town. Definition of a tourist trap. Mostly stores selling cheap stuff. We were expecting more of a living history experience & it definitely is not that.
Eh. This place is cool, a little out of the way and something to see but a definite tourist trap and most of the buildings are replicas. A cool sight to see for kids that don’t know the difference. You pay to get in and then have to pay again to see the mine or take the train around the mountain. When I saw this on the map I thought it was going to be more of an authentic ghost town. It’s something to do along your drive though!
It was a first visit, so we werent sure what to expect. And its safe to say, we will be back! They have camp sites with hook-ups but for our stay we were at a site without. The other campers were friendly and respectful and it wasnt loud late or early. Going in January meant the hiking was fun because we werent stressed about snake run ins. There are many places to hike and explore. The old town part has some fun things like a mine shaft short tour ( $3 or$4 per person,) a train tour, panning for gold, a sweet shop, a general store, a restaurant, a saloon and a cafe plus a rock and fossil shop. Lots to walk around and look at. There is also a coffee shop inside the sweet shop that will make you a Starbucks style coffee. There isnt shade so this might be brutal to hike and explore in hot months.
Great place to go and see. Thought the price for the attractions was probably one to two dollars more than they shouldve been. Overall, like I said, its a great place to visit.

Wow! What an awesome place. So full of history and cool things to walk around and see. Definitely bring comfy shoes and a jacket there’s lots to see, the mine was awesome! And the food was solid! Love the history and will come back again.
The only plus is there are hookups. But for most part it is uneven dirt & rocks w/ campsites close together. But if your visiting the ghost town, or simply dropping in for a quick one night stop, its okay.
We had a good idea of what to expect and were not disappointed. Went on California Days weekend. The place was sold out. Calico was a blast for the family. Most of the spaces are a little snug, but it’s manageable. Stayed in an electric-only site. Bathrooms nearby were reasonable and stocked. Quiet/not quiet was as expected for a sold out desert OHV crowd. Partying until about 10 and then it quieted down. Sites were pretty significantly not level, so bring plenty of leveling blocks. The ground is mostly medium and small rocks, so plan footwear and flashlights accordingly. Lots of space for the kiddos to run around up on the hills. Weather was great (Hi 70 Low 35) for our 3 days (Feb 17-20). Seems like a typical desert site, so watch your weather. They did allow real wood fires, so that was really nice for a change. Then again, there’s literally nothing to catch fire out here either. Cell service was 1-2 bars (Verizon) in most of the campground. I’d do it again in a heartbeat (at the right time of the year).
Location itself is great - middle of the trip between San Diego and Las Vegas. Clean park but sparse. Full hook ups available but we didnt use them as just staying the night. If you have a dog, not much for them to do at the campsite (few trees, no open space enclosure) but the ghost town is very dog friendly and even has a dog boutique!
This is a desert ghost town on a steep hill. If you have trouble walking I would not go there. Im not sure if you could get along the street. Its well maintained and interesting.
Total tourist trap. Avoid! Busses from Vegas and L.A. with loads of tourists are carried to spend their money. No old Town, only tourist shops. Avoid!
This place really makes you think about how life was in those years. It’s very well kept.I sincerely recommend it.

Love coming here and enjoying the western feel of Calico.. enjoy the train ride and all the shops have nice things to view and purchase.
Cabin was clean, AC worked great, firepit was nice. Calico Ghost Town was incredibly fun overall. The restaurant ran out of chicken dinners, which was a bummer, but we arrived after a very large group of tour busses who I believe cleaned them out. Admission into Calico Ghost Town was included with the cabin. Security was nice and helpful. Very memorable experience.
Panning for gold with Fifi was fun. She is hilarious and an amazing person. Larry is amazing as well 😊
Campground in need of tidying. Uneven campsite strewn with cobbles. Trash alongside campground access road. Pay showers with no privacy. Well- patrolled after dark. Easy access to Calico Ghost Town.
We travel full time and have stayed in many spots across the US. We booked a one night stay at A3. The site was so unlevel that I couldn’t do anything else to my rig to make it work right. We didn’t even bother going to the front to try and move, as other sites looked bad or already taken. We left after one hour of trying to make it level and lost our $50 for the night.There’s a KOA down the road along the same exit. You might want to try that.
It was really nice, lots of things to see but if you go during hot months I suggest get there early, staff is very friendly and so are the staff in the shops.
Overall felt this was a great spring break experience for our family. We stayed in the campground, all pics are specifically from the campground and not the Ghost Town. We stayed in area O which is like a standard KOA style campground with everyone lined up and less distances between campers. O is the only area for those with OHV to stay, but is not required to stay in the area. We have a 65 rig between motorhome and trailer and found that we could easily get in/out of the campground without issues and there was plenty of room, we reserved one of the few pull through sites. We stayed during the week and it was far less busy then during a holiday weekend. If you are staying during a holiday I might recommend reserving two sites if you value space for your equipment and selves. I felt it might be a bit crowded for us during a holiday. There are large trash bins and cans everywhere, a substantial number of restrooms and showers. Generally there are no firepits unless you have a cabin, so if you have the ability, bring your own firepit. There are new trees placed in area O for future shade. We did not notice new shade trees in other areas of the campground. Found the full hookups to be easy to use and in good condition. Being in the Calico Campground automatically places you in the area of the town, when driving you will drive straight to go to Calico Ghost Town, turn right to go to all areas of camping except area O and turn left to go to O. Sites are about $48/night for full hook ups with tax and are overall, worth the cost given the amenities. There is no playground, grass, or dog runs if that is a specific need. But, there are amazing views, plenty of hiking, and lots of trails and a number of local things to see if you need more to do then just the ghost town.

Great place to take young kids. There is a short train ride (for additional $) and a tour through an underground mine (also for additional $) but they are both the perfect length of time - around 10 minutes - to keep the kids occupied but not bored. There are also several miners cabins to peer into and some you can walk into, as well as various buildings. There are several places to eat and we stopped for hot chocolate after about an hour to rest. The kids thoroughly enjoyed exploring everything and it was a fun family outing. Two words of caution: the town is falling apart, as befits a ghost town, and there are definitely dilapidated boards, nails, and other unsafe items so keep an eye on the little ones. In addition, the venue, in particular the camping area, seems to attract a conservative crowd - I saw several eff Biden flags on ATVs. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but in a family venue, it seemed extreme. I would highly recommend that you do as a stop on the way to Vegas or, in our case, death valley.
We didnt camp here but would have loved to. Spent the day exploring the ghost town but we definitely felt like we wanted to stay longer. Camping there would have been ideal. Loved the town and the people who worked there were so friendly and accommodating. The food was so good! I really wasnt expecting that. My grandson had pizza and the adults had food at the restaurant near the entrance. It was just a corn dog and hamburger and fries but they were outstanding! Going again soon!
Calico Ghost Town is a fun place to go to see the History of the miners that lived in that area during the 1800. The staff are friendly and motivated and the facility itself is always clean. Someone visiting Southern California should consider stopping at this park to enjoy the tours and fun stores that are within the park. The place is also dog friendly and since it is in the desert the staff ensure there are plenty of Doggy Dishes filled with cold water throughout the town. This place is a fun place to spend a couple of hours here.
Calico is a fun ghost town with camp grounds near it, fun for the whole family!
Its a real ghost town we got there late so didnt get the full effect, if you like walking hiking climbing tunnels or overnight Rv camping this might be the place for you. Its a very nice place.

This is an awesome place if youve never been here before it is great. A very awesome historical place which they do family events all year round. And they do very good with the off-road community provide camp at their stay.
Very cool place to go for fun. If youre into off-roading there are plenty of trails. Camp sites are narrow and not many full hookups.
Spots are EXTREMELY close together and incredibly uneven. Couldnt even open our rv door with it hitting an ill placed tree. The town of Calico itself and its history is very cool.....but filthy. Garbage everywhere. Would probably not stay here again.
This cg is gravel/rock sites. Extremely tight spots. If there were more people here, it would have been horrible. Electric only at our site which makes it pretty expensive for us at $35. but we did get entrance to the old mining town included.
We go off-roading in the desert encamp here in the campground that allows off-road. There are additional areas that allow campers that do not have off-road vehicles. Full hookups are available and the bathrooms are very clean. You can stroll up to the calico town for tourist attractions shopping and food. I have been here multiple times. There are some campers available for rent and little cabins available for available for rent I have never used them but Im told theyre nice
Awesome place for a quick getaway or a road trip. My family and I have been here many times, and its always amazing! Just today, we got hit with the desert rains and it only made the experience all the more memorable!
This place is always our go to place to stay the night while traveling. I noticed the changes this time we visited. It was very difficult to reserve a camp site on line, and none of the sites were labeled so you dont know which site were available, we had to move out of one after fully setting up, thankfully the on site security guard helped us find an available spot, and the sad thing was by morning hardly any new RVs showed up and we could of stayed in our first choice site. I did have issues with the pay shower, it ate my quarters (5 of them) so I had to dress and change shower stalls. The good news is the next shower worked and was putting out warm water.
Great full hookup campground for the desert explorer. Very reasonably priced and well maintained. Pay attention to the over all lengths, some 40’ spots are very tight.
I really loved this place and can’t wait to go back. Very spacious campground, and offers light and water hookups as well as very clean restrooms with showers, price is $35 per night. The staff and park rangers are very friendly and helpful. Heads up; we went during August and it was extremely hot, with temperatures up to 109 and not a lot of shade from trees. So if you’re planning on setting up camp with a good old tent and an easy up like we did, just know it’s going to be a challenge. There’s an Off-road trail that can be found as soon as you exit the campground; this is a super fun easy trail and if you’re lucky enough to have the trail all to your self you can actually hear your self think because of how amazingly quiet it is ones you get deeper in to the trail. I highly recommend just stopping for a few minutes to enjoy the amazing quietnesses and peacefulness of this place. The campground is also right next to Calico Ghost Town which I highly recommend paying a visit too just to have something to do and say you’ve been there. The place has cute little shops for souvenirs, snacks and for taking some great pictures, cute western homes and shops make you feel like you’re in the wild west.
In desperate need of some TLC and guidance.Lets just say, if you have a camper or RV with sewer and a shower, you’ll want to use those instead. Not only do the toilet take brute force to flush (if they even do), you will have to pay $1 to use the shower for six minutes. I believe there were six bathrooms in total and only two were ‘functional.’ One bathroom had NO door, two seemed to be permanently locked, and one would refuse to close fully. Also note that one of these two ‘functional’ bathrooms no longer had a flush button.When the sign says that the park and town closes at 5pm, THEY MEAN IT. If you are not at your campsite by 5pm, they will have the road blocked by traffic cones. Thankfully they are easy to move for those who go to eat dinner in Barstow.One would assume that the $40 for a one night stay would maybe include WiFi but since it’s the desert I will concede. Maybe there should have been cable but once again, I will allow it. However, if I am providing literally everything but the spot to park it and less than 24 hours worth of electricity and water, I expected a little more to this site.In the end, just go stay at a state park. Not only are they cheaper (also don’t charge $3 for the average shower) but they will also be cleaner.

I used to camp here in the early 1990s with my family. I returned in 2022 with my kid so she can experience Calico. The campground and ghost town used to be run by Knott’s Berry Farm, but was sold after the Knott’s passed away and is now managed by San Bernardino County. Unfortunately, the campground is in a sad state of ruin. The water pumps located throughout the campground are all nearly broken. The site numbers are so faded you can barely see them. The fire pits are either a clump of rocks, non existent because the previous person tore it down, or if you’re lucky you get an actual bonfire pit. The tables also vary in quality. Some sites have full metal tables. Others are the same wooden tables from the 1990s. Still others are made out of cement. No site is exactly the same and it seems they just pick at random which to renovate.The old bathroom has been closed and just sits at the top of the hill completely abandoned and vandalized. The new bathroom structures are decent, but there are only 4 toilet/shower combos per building.This place could use some TLC to return it to its former glory.

Nice stop for the night. Reservation includes entry into the Ghost Town and its just a short walk from the campground. Dogs are allowed at both, we even got to take them into the old mines. The Ghost Town has different activities for an extra cost, reasonable prices and offers several tours that sound fun. The campground/RV area is clean and has bathrooms with showers (showers are $1, quarters only for 5 minutes). Our site had power, water, and sewer. No lighting at night so be sure to bring a flashlight. Fires allowed so bring some wood and smores. Lots of families and pets, everyone was respectful and it was quiet by 10pm. Make sure to have your leveling blocks, the sites are gravel and uneven.
Stayed here many times as a kid. As an adult I really appreciate the improvements. The bathrooms and showers are nice and clean. The hookups are quality and well maintained. The cabins are an extra treat, as they have air conditioning. Highly recommended.
Really neat place to go to with the family! They have tours, train ride and gold panning for attractions. Restaurants, candy shop that has Starbucks, candle store, wood shop, a shop with Native American items, lots of gift shops! Also be ready for a short little hike to reach the top to over look Calico Ghost town, so be prepared to have coins to look through the telescope. Also bring cash because there are cool machines all around for fortune telling, talking guys behind the glass lol, def would come back again ⛏️🤠🌵😊

Get out of the city and go see a ghost town! This is a cute location and for the SoCal traveler, its not too far of a drive, or even a great stop on the way to Vegas. We camped out and then went to the town the next day, which was amazing. We will be back to try the cabins and some more of the tours you have to book ahead for.
No ghosts just another theme park that has seen better days. Best part was all the multicolored hills. Not worth a long trip and kids probably would be disappointed. RV / campsites really need repairs.
I had never been to calico ghost town in Barstow. You can see the signs on your to vegas or coming back. My son was in the boys scouts and they said we were going camping and they decided to come here.My first impression was that its a little far from San Fernando valley. The town itself is pretty neat though. It feels like you travel back in time to the western era. There are lots of historic buildings here along with stories of the town. Also, there is a cave where you pay to go inside its a bit creepy.There is also a train that goes around showing you some very cool views of the mountains. We can during October so it had Halloween decorations which were pretty neat.Camping was pretty cool you see some beautiful skies at night and hear coyotes out in the desert. They have restrooms with running water so thats pretty cool.This place is awesome to at least visit once. Dont forget to stop at Peggy Sues diner for their famous apple pie.
My wife used to come here as a child so she led us here and i have been in love ever since! rented a cabin for about $70. was the only cabin there pretty much and my kids, wife, and i had a blast! sat around a camp fire and ate snacks and had a great time. visited the graveyard and it was spooky and fun. calico has a lot to do too and a great restaurant at the top of the hill. had the 2nd best time of my life here! 1st best was the first time we came here a couple years back but it wil remain amazing and sad to say goodbye but ill bring my family back in a few years when my little ones can understand everything a bit better. thank you to whomever runs this establishment!
What a fun family experience... very well reconstruction of the mining community in Calico. Unlike the typical as is ghost town, Walter Knott of Knotts Berry Farm fame. Made a comment to preserve this town. As a result we have a vibrant community of merchants who make this town a ghost town with life.
My kids enjoyed the ghost town. The campsites are really close together and could be difficult to back in but they were not bad. It was a nice place

Awesome experience. But I think a lot of our enjoyment had to do with the camp ground not being busy. When it is busy be ready for lots of atv traffic, noise and radios. We were fortunate - our neighbors were polite and although they rode around and around the camp site they did so slowly and quit around 10pm as required. The cabin we rented was very nice, comfortable and cozy. Well worth the price. Easy in n out. Nice fire pit, picnic table, water with hose and a bar b que. Youll need to bring chairs and linens.
A lot of fun!!! Everyone that works there were super nice. Things were closed but thats because of the state. Amy was amazing tour guide. I plan to go again once everything open and not as hot outside. I feel its a very fun and cheap family place you can spend half the day or whole day if you hike around the area.
We book multiple sites in the B row canyon and have an extended family Thanksgiving. Kids love it. Lots of outdoor activities nearby.

I have always like CALICO... All of the shops are nice to go shopping in.. I wished that the food store would have been open.. The Bunker, was a great home away from home.. It would be nice, to have shelves over the counter area so U could put your soups, cereals, bread and anything else so its not in the cabinets on the floor.. Like I said, this is my first time of being in the Big Bunker & I did enjoyed myself.. Thank U for having a nice sleeping area.. It would be nice, to stay in a more medium cabins like u do in the camping area next to the nice bathrooms.. U have to pay a dollar to take a shower now.. Thank U......
So much to do- 3 maon attractions with the Mine Train Ride, The Mine and what I think is called the Leaning hous. A lot of wonderful shops- the Glass House, the Candle Shop, Rock Shop, Sweet Shop and a store with doggy cookies! Halloween was amazing with the shops and even the Sherriffs giving out candy.
I have always wanted to go here and I was not disappointed! All of the staff were friendly and loved their job, a breath of fresh air. Spend a few hours to see all the stores, ride the train, see the mine, visit the mystery house and eat at the saloon.
Its ok. The ground in the section we all stayed in is full of rocks. No smooth area. This was B sites. Forget putting down a tent unless u bring a gravel rake. The Ghost Town was fun on Saturday. Ate at a restaurant there and had ice cream up the main street. U get in free to the Ghost Town because ur already in the park. U can walk to it from the campground or drive around the hill. 😎

Cool place!! If you will be tent camping, youll need a heavy-duty hammer, heavy-duty stakes, and a heavy-duty stake remover. Even then, expect for half your stakes to get bent due to a lot of rocks under the ground. I was lucky that it was almost empty when I went, but the campsites are very small and tightly packed, so you will definitely feel the presence of your neighbors if there are any.
Stayed in the cabins. Very comfortable. Showers believe it or not were too hot to use.
The campground was great for the exception of the guy who ran over the water main for C-section so there was no water for my water hookup however it was a great Campground the spot was a little tight to back into with a large camper but it was manageable Calico Ghost Town itself is always a fun time I suggest if you go there at the end of October take the ghost tour its pretty cool
Our kids favorite place. It is tough camping, but adds to the adventure of it all. We usually go in October, rattlers are out and about. We killed 2 last trip.The Ghost Town is very memorable, such a good time.Stars are beautiful at night.Hiking is fun as well.

We rented one of the cabins. I was expecting more of a rustic deserty/nature vibe, quiet and peaceful. Instead there are a ton of RVs, loud music with deep bass, loud dune buggies, bright headlights in your eyes while you try to cook marshmallows as the trucks do 30-point turns to fit their trailers into the little spaces. Large truck parked 3 feet away from our fire pit, at an angle that blocks off our area. I feel like our family is crashing a party we don’t belong at. Kids had trouble sleeping due to obscenely loud bass music nearby. One star for the cabin itself, which was nice.
This place is poorly run, disorganized, and unprofessional. No one could help us with our reservation. There was never a ranger available. I would never recommend staying here. Visit the ghost town, and skip the camping.
Its great that a paid camper also gets access to the ghost town. The sites are large that bathroom facility acceptable, not real clean on this Sunday night. The campground was very quiet overnight with beautiful colors from the sunset. The dumpsters were full but were emptied early-early Monday morning. In my site someone previous had a wood fire on the ground in the middle of the site. I learned this after parking my trailer in the middle of the ash. I am guessing they burned pallet wood as I found about a dozen nails around my curbside tire. This combined with the big rocks and stray wood make think the sites are not routinely groomed between customers. The utilities worked well. The picnic tables are weathered. The campground is dusty, in part because its desert and the area has ATV access so ATVs are coming and going.
Stayed in a cabin, which we found to be perfectly adequate and as advertised. That being said, there were quite a few things we were unhappy with.Cons:- You cannot leave the campground at night. At all. Not only that, but when we did, the rangers were quite rude. This is not posted or advertised anywhere that we could find. If you do not want to be stuck in the tiny campground, DO NOT stay here. I assume this applies to the RV sites as well- The ghost town itself is very commercialized. We equated it to a mix between a historic site and an amusement park- Bathroom mirrors are terriblePros:- Cabin was basic but worked well. AC was great- Free admission to the ghost town with the stay was great. Dont think it wouldve been worth the cost to pay for just the town though- Right off highway. We were essentially just passing through so this was nice for usOverall the most disappointing aspect of this stay was that we could not leave our tiny cabin! The park closes at 5 and we got in a little after that. We were escorted to our cabin and after we got settled we thought we would walk around the area a bit. We were very wrong! Even just going up to the overflow parking area is not allowed. We headed back down right away but yet ANOTHER ranger came up to us in a truck and further berated us! If leaving the campground is not allowed, there should at least be a sign saying so! Thankfully we only stayed one night!
My parents and I have been coming to this campsite with family friends for years! It’s one of my favorites. The bathrooms are fairly clean and the sites are easy to back into. As with any desert campground, there’s definitely noise from the bikes and OHV’s driving in and out but it’s never bothered me. It’s not too far from Barstow (and a convenient Walmart) in case something goes wrong.This year, my husband and I brought our Pug. She wasn’t a fan of the cold and wind but it was still a great time—as always!
We love this place we camp at the full hook up spots and go off roading and target practice. For the most part the people that camp here are like minded AMERICANS flying the flag. We never get tired of going into town and supporting local businesses.
The biggest pluses to me were the beautiful views, hiking trails, and their large campsites. The campground is pretty clean, has fire pits, some picnic tables, and was quiet when we went. They have sites with electrical outlets, and primitive ones without. My only suggestion is to bring hand soap when you go, because all the bathrooms I used were completely out.
Decided last minute to go and camp here and showed up 11 oclock at night. They allowed us to come in and camp there. We paid in the morning in town. The best tent campsite we have been to in a while. For sure a family friendly town. Will be visiting again.
First time there, took our RZR, had a great time, easy access for off-road fun, nights were calm, does get windy so be prepared.Camp grounds were maintained, fire pits located within the rental cabin patio areas, rock fire pits for the RV and trailer area which has full power and water hook up.A lot of jeep groups and SxS/RZR as well as dirt bikes and quads. Its rocky terrain on the first part of the trails so air down before leaving camp!We will definitely be coming back in the near future.
Interesting place..reminds me of old tucson..but smaller. Cemetery is active with recent burials along with folks that died in the 1800s. Also had camp grounds.
This place was so much more amazing then I thought it would be! There is a train and an old mine you can walk through. We always pass by on our way from Vegas to CA, so we just stopped in one day and so glad we did! The views are amazing, the ghost town is super cute. There is a beer garden, a few restaurants and gift shops. The kids had a great time too, mostly because of the train. This is the same ghost town Knotts Berry Farm was based off of. Very cool little place.
Awesome campground! We stayed in the area where they dont allow any offroading toys. The spots are bug enough with full hook ups, with 30 and 50 amp service.
Staff is super friendly and you get access to the ghost town. But showers cost money and they are only super hot water (no way to control it).

We had a fun time here. We ate at the Calico House Restaurant. The food was good enough. It’s a fun town to walk through. There are various stores that sell a mix of old stuff and touristy stuff. We bought the 3 attraction tickets for Maggie’s Mine, the Mystery Shack and panning for gold. We bought a separate ticket for the train. $2-$3 for the train. It goes really slow because it takes you on a narrated tour that tells the history of the town. We got to see a gunfight. I would have been disappointed if we’d paid for it. It wasn’t that good. I think maybe the gunfighters are volunteers.We didn’t have to pay admission to the town because that was included in the fees for camping there.We liked that there are cabins located in the same area as the camp sites. It allowed our non-RV family to join us.Pets are allowed in town. Even at the Restaurant if you eat out on the deck in back. Pets are not allowed in the cabins though.
I loved it but I was because of my disabilty, I wasnt able to walk passed the restroom. Ill come back once I am able to purchase an electric scooter. I was fascinated by what I saw so I can only imagine the rest of.
Great location out in the wilderness, you can see all the stars and its so quiet.Toilets were all dirty, showers were dirty to and what a joke a dollar for a trickle of very cool water, wouldnt stay here any longer than a day without my own facilities in my rv. I know they blame covid and short staffed thats tne world now.

Great awesome place to go camping for Halloween. Calico ghost town is decorated, events for kids every 30 min, theres a train ride thru silver mining mountain. You can take your quads, dirt bikes, full hook up and dry camping...YOU CAN EVEN set up CAMP AT THE CEMETERY.
This is not the prettiest spot (however for being in the desert this is probably as good as it gets!) BUT you do get FREE admission to the Ghost Town if you stay at the RV park; hence the 5 stars! A nice surprise for us. Bathrooms typical of state park restrooms, concrete floors, individual rooms and coin operated showers; but all clean and functional. The town is in walkable distance, so park and enjoy the town.
Pretty clean campground, easy access to OHV trails, the town itself is is very well kept together, if you come during the winter BRING LAYERS, it gets really cold and somedays windy other than that if you want hook ups reserve your spot in advance. lastly, great experience in the town, shops, antiques, and historical tours. Overall a grand experience
We stayed there 4 days, not worth it. Used to be a family favorite, now its over run by dirt bikes and side by sides. Almost everything in the town was closed. It was a huge disappointment, they will have to put more staff on and intertainment or it will turn in to a closed, empty forgotten memory, what a shame and the camp grounds are a joke, the showers were out of order or locked and no employee around except for the person who was at the entry to let you in.
Had a great visit to the old ghost town. We enjoyed all the sight and the staff was very friendly. Great place to enjoy a meal and discover the silver rush history.Also every thing are very reasonably priced so you can enjoy your experience.Thank you Calico staff you were excellent.
I love the campground and the area. Only gave it 3 stars due to the excessive speed security alliance uses everytime they pass the campground. I figured they would be more mindful because people walk with their kids and dogs around the area.

We have been to Calico Ghost town before but never camped. This was our first time. What a great place to camp! There is so much to do and see. Our four year old loved climbing up and down the hills and finding rocks to stack and collect. We found several mines to walk in and explore. If you have a 4x4 there are many back roads you can drive up and explore even more. The ghost town is walking distance from the campsites.Some of the sites have full hookups and some don’t. There are tent only spots available also. They have a dump station available if you need. We didn’t go in the bathrooms but from the outside they looked well taken care of.We just stayed last weekend and have already booked our campsites for next year! That’s how much fun we had.Remember this is the desert. It can get very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Be sure to pack for the season. We were here MLK weekend 2019 and the days were in the 70s but nights dropped to the low 40s high 30s.
Overall, very positive experience. Rolled in late evening due to a I-15 closure at Baker. Ranger on duty was SUPER helpful! Since we were towing & had a back-in site, he re-assigned us to an available pull-thru to avoid the de-hitching hassle in the pitch black darkness. He guided us directly to the spot...cant beat that for safety consideration & helpfulness.One night stay in the completely vacant OHV Loop in spot 37. Fairly level for #36 & #37 (endcap), but others had a noticeable lateral decline. Full-hook ups. Desert scenery with no shade at most sites. Well-maintained with coin showers and restrooms. We drove the other loops and they seemed about the same. Im sure things look different during peak times so keep that in mind.Great stop over and it is clear the rangers are on top of everything. We stayed here for 7 days in January. I would give the infrastructure about 2 stars but the activities and ambiance 4 1/2 stars. This is a very dog-friendly place to sightsee. The camp sites are very close together but we didn’t have any neighbors in January so it wasn’t too bad. Easy walk to the town which is free for campers. We walked into town every day we were there. There are restaurants, stores, and exhibits and everything except the grocery store is ok for dogs. My dogs did the little train, the Maggie Mine tour, the gold panning, and the Mystery Shack. There is outdoor seating at the restaurant and I had an excellent hamburger. There is also a store that specializes in dog treats, which my dogs really enjoyed. The campground is very primitive but does have full hookups. No paving and many picnic tables were missing or broken. I would recommend this campground in the off season unless you like lots of people.
Nice place to spend the afternoon. Many stores are still open (on weekends). A few were closed due to pandemic. The candy / sweet store has Starbucks coffee in their expresso machine! Train isnt running. Kids can pan for gold. Where trail runners or tennis shoes so you can walk confidently to the lookout point.
Great place for a family fun day. Good beer, good attractions like shows and train ride. Lots of souvenir shops too. A must see while in California !

We camped in our RV the camp ground was nice and clean. But we couldnt use the concrete fire ring because the trailer next to us had their slide out in the way. The TVs and trailers are really to close to each other. The Calico Ghost Town was just okay. I kinda expected more. But it was okay for a day visit of a couple hours. The train ride for $5.00 was a joke. It lasted eight min. The only good thing about it was, we got to take our dog on it. A lot of stores were closed or went out of business. We got there about 1:30 pm. So you kind of expect thing to be on full swing... No shuttle service for the elderly or disable. Dont think I will be back.
Decent campground. There was a broken glass beer bottle next to our picnic table, and the bathrooms next to us were ok but the shower cost $1 for 5 minutes. If you hike up to the next bathroom the shower is free. Im not sure why its set up like this. The showers were ok in terms of cleanliness. The security person was very nice and helped us find a good spot. They patrol all night so it feels very safe. Wed probably come back and stay again.
Nice Ghost town. Loads of shops you can even get real dinosaur teeth. The saloon serves good burgers and is quite stylish
The campground was nice, try to get a site with at least one tree or bring some form of shade, else you will burn. If you use the restroom be prepared, the locks are terrible and can come loose if someone outside jiggles the handle. Other than that the restrooms are nice
Came up for my birthday weekend and absolutely had a great weekend. We also went on the ghost tour with Bridget and she was a great tour guide. This will definitely become a tradition for my family and I.
Great place and atmosphere. Our family lives in the area and even though the place is literally a ghost town everyone is really friendly never see anyone ever upset. Plus we get a chance to get out of the house on a cool breezy day.

Condensed review:Located halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Calico is a nice stopping point to stretch your legs and get to know some gold/silver rush history.I was actually very surprised at this place, in that I didnt think that many people frequented it. It wasnt too crowded, and the walk through the town was very pleasant.Surrounding area: a few campgrounds and a fairly large RV park. They also have a Bunkhouse that we stayed in.The Bunkhouse. Sleeps about 20 people, in 10 bunk beds in one big room. Accommodations: a microwave, a fridge, a big counter. NO sink or oven to cook things on. Outside, two bathrooms, NO showers. They also have a fire pit and fire grill. No wood in the area, so BYOFW for the pit or grill. Plenty of parking, even if everyone brings a car each. The RV campground and Cemetery is within walking distance. The RV campground does have showers that I think you can use if you are in the bunkhouse. Also included with the Bunkhouse rental is parking at the town.Other things to do in the area. Hiking trails that are easy level, but watch your footing at all times. Loose rocks and holes in the ground.There is a lot of room to drive off road vehicles around, and if you go into the canyons, you can find old abandoned mines that you can go explore.As for the town itself. Parking is $8. Very similar to the old western town at Knotts Berry farm. All the workers are dressed in period gear, and are very friendly. There are a bunch of shops with various wares there. Off the top of my head, there was a leatherworks shop, pottery shop, woven shop, rock shop, dog treat shop, candy store, old time photo place, and general goods shop. They have a museum, and a bunch of relics from the old silver mining times dots the entire town. There are also a lot of ruins of the old town. There is really a lot to explore and learn throughout the entire town.Everything within the town is free to explore except they do charge for 4 things.The train ride $5. Was a short 10 minute trip, with an audio recording telling you various facts.The next 3 things you can bundle, and it was $8.Maggies Mine. Right near the train, exhibits inside free. Paid is walking through the mine. Mine is small, with two audio recordings telling you some history about the mine. Its the safe way to explore a mine. The exit of the mine has nice views and ruins and ends at upper town.Mystery Shack. Within the main street. Warning. Handicap, weak knees, vertigo or get dizzy easily should probably avoid this one. I actually got dizzy at one point through the short tour (depending on group size, probably 15 minutes+). Best to see in a small group (12) Wait for next if its too large. Explore the waiting room for some frontier humor.Gold panning exhibit. Just a warning, not gold its pyrite, which is silvery in color. They should call it silver panning, since that would be a better representation. In any case, its a fun thing to do, and definitely something the kids will enjoy.Other things. 3 places to eat at Calico. So if you dont mind paying the $8 parking, this is a great spot to stop if you are hungry.Main restaurant right near the entrance. Sit down establishment, but severely understaffed. Peanuts to munch on and you throw the shells on the ground. Ate breakfast, and was worth the $10ish they charged. Have patience, service slow. Bbq smelled amazing.Middle of town. Did not eat, but Pizza/Beer garden. (FYI, we carried beer in shops and town)End of town. Standard fare, burgers, fries type food. It also had ice cream by the scoop. Price under $10, including the large beers.One additional thing that the town serves (I know the last restaurant had it as a fountain drink) is Sarsaparilla. Kind of a root beer, but better. They also sell it by the bottle in some of the shops.

Very convenient campground with nice restrooms and showers but the campsites are VERY close to each other and unfortunately we had to listen to someones music all hours of the night.
Dirt and rocks with hook ups. Sites are on top of each other and not all have firepits. Restrooms are newer and nice though, and this campground is a short walk to the ghost town.
Want to escape for the city. This must see Lil town was a great day trip! If your looking to travel back to the that “ole west” feel, this is the place.
Wonderful, immersive look into western mining town life in the late 1800s! Stop here if you are ever in the area. I only wish that I lived closer; I would visit again.
After moving to the AV from Arizona, this is about as close to Tombstone as we can find. Wish they could incorporate some nightlife, but its still a nice day trip.
A very authentically rustic town that has a working train and lots of old West items to look at and imagine what is was like to live in the old West.Entertaining and educational for the whole family.About 6 hours of entertainment if you do and look at everything.
Nice quiet campgrounds and new bath & bathrooms in the No off road vehicles camp area. Free admission to the ghost town.
We loved exploring ghost town. They have cute shops. You can go through a mine and ride the train to see the area! Perfect for off roading, riding quads, and for camping in tents or campers. The restaurant was delicous.
Crowded. No cell service. Confusing directions. We didnt realize it was a huge congested off-road park because everythibg we saw led us to believe the opposite. The security guard was super nice, though. We pulled in and left immediately. Hopefully we can get a refund.
We stopped here because our car was overheating. The town is cute, and many sales people told us interesting facts about the town. What really made the day was the gentleman tour guide for The Haunted Shack. He was in full cowboy regalia (in 105°f heat). He told jokes, stories about the town, played the guitar and sang.The singing cowboy made our day!

The old town is a perfect daytrip or mid-point stop! Camping is great if you like to hike and play. Amenities are sparse, but its a CAMPGROUND, so..
We arrived late on a weekday night without a reservation and were escorted by the camp host to a completely empty campground. We therefore had our own bathroom and good access to water, etc. If youd like to take a shower, youll need quarters for the coin shower. For quarters will give you the first 6 minutes.Overall a very positive experience.
A little more touristy than ghost town, but still a fun experience. I would definitely recommend for families with younger kids.
Loved this campground. It is a great place to hike. I wish the sites were bigger and the signage was better. Its hard to know where your site is.
The guy working the gold panning attraction really made my sons day. The girl working the photo attraction is always amazing.
This is our first time and due to covid not all operations are up and running. However, we still enjoyed our visit. It was not crowded which was nice. The views are wonderful. I would recommend the trip.
This is a great place all SoCal people should enjoy at least once in awhile. Especially if you have children. Its a slice of the old west very realisticly rendered by the people who do these things. The original buildings from the 1870s are well complemented by the Renditions they have made and really it seems like the old west. Theres a train ride, panning for gold. Multiple souvenir stores including a leather shop, Rock Shop, Gourmet dog food, eateries Etc. Plus I have a great Campground and people like to go off-roading from this destination point. The Restaurant and Saloon are really very nice and serve Good Food and Spirits so theres nothing to complain about. Id say go, it will be an adventure.
Sometimes there’s free events! Got free snow cones! Kid friendly, just being water! Ghost town tour is a must at night!
Calico is a fun little thing to do if youre about to arrive in Vegas early before hotel check-in. A little bit offputting was the $20 entrance fee per car, but if they use the money to take care of the ghost town then what the heck.One thing you should know before visiting: Almost all of the buildings here are completely rebuild. There is nothing original any more about this former silver mining town, however, youll get a good feel of what it used to be like.Lots of history - I was curious to learn about the red light district, the restaurant mile, and even the little Chinatown! I recommend taking the choo-choo train (ticket: $5) which takes you around for about 10 minutes, with some explanation on the history.I went in November which was great - reading the other reviews it must be crazy hot in the summer months, so be sure to bring water.
I have been going to Calico for the last 40 years. It never disappoints. Some if not most shops still open during Covid. The Café is closed right now and has been since March. Plenty to see for the young ones and your imagination. Given to the county by Walter Knott who owned it and actually worked there as a roofer, yes that Walter Knott. If you go to Knotts Berry farm you will make the correlation between the two and come away with a better understanding and History of California and its people and places. They do have events all year long, so look them up online. They also have camping and housekeeping cabins to stay in. Lots of history around the town and also great place to take your toys to play and 4 wheel .
All decorated for fall and Halloween, shops are open, the train ride was fun, the tours were awesome as well. Had fun.
Holy moly, huge, every site taken, packed to the brim!! OHV trails. Rv hookups. Tent sites. Easy to find. Close to gas and Eddie World.
Got lucky as site B19 was massive compared to the rest of the campsites being packed in like sardines. If you can do no hookups, its the best spot in the entire camp. Private but has an easement for a trail.
Fun little stop on the way home from Vegas. Neat shops and historic buildings from the 1800s. Theres a short train tour and a walking tour through one of the old mine shafts.
Love coming here with my kids and family friends. So much history to learn and get a work out walking around too. Loved that we can go and gave lunch there or go to the benches where you cam camp out and eat there.
Lots of history here. Great camping. Great off roading. And open target shooting in the hills.

The Calico town was interesting but neither entertaining nor educational enough to warrant driving out there solely for that. Could not understand audio recordings on the tours. If youre already out that way, worth stopping by for a few hours. Campground was clean.
Lovely little piece of American history. Plenty of things to see and do. Unfortunately it is very run down and with the high value of tourists there is a lot of trash around and some parts appear untidy. But it is a big patch of land to look after.
Great place to visit. Its a real abandoned town not one created just for tourists. Well worth a visit and great for camping. The views are awesome too

Stopped on way to Las Vegas, half of the shops were not open because it was a Friday we were told…. It was OK, not what I expected it to be... kind of disappointed with it..
So this place was supposed to be accessible for wheemchairs... it is more like kind of accessible if you maybe have the motorized kind and are also not in pain.Im also immuno compromised and NONE of the 4 staff I saw wore masks or face coverings. The man taking money at the front, dealing with dozens of tourists a day (or more...) actually argued hed have to yell to be heard thru a thin piece of cloth/paper.... that might save hundreds of lives. Even if what he said were true itd save lives.If you want Covid go here.
I totally love this place me and my wife come here at least once or twice a year and always have a good time.

Calico Ghost Town is mining from 1816 and now is a museum and thats a nice place to observe the hard work place it was with so many service por the miners, like restaurants services, laundry for Chinese miners.
If bringing desert toys, definitely get O Camp. Otherwise, B loop was our favorite. First time at Calico, and Halloween celebration was a great plus! Definitely coming back!
It’s a nice little town, you can’t really do much out there but it’s a nice experience, and you learn a lot about how that town was years ago... great place to come with family and friends
Calico camp ground is special been going there since the early 80s as a kid with my parents then cub scout boy scouts now I take my family there. Hiking, day and night exploring everything that it has to offer from stargazing at night time with the telescopes two playing tag flashlight tag capture the flag and meeting new people from around the world. and sometimes seeing people that we met in the past there with their kids and our kids play together like theres no time being a part. Does plays can make memories and special occasions just got to give it a chance and a time to explore it and to enjoy it and for future generations to have that pleasure to share with there friends and family.
Not a lot of amenities but convenient to Calico. Good 1 night stop over.
I saw this interesting stop on the way to Vegas. Calico Ghost Town made a perfect rest stop because of the mild uphill walking. Although I was only here for an hour or so, I could spend a whole day here exploring the caves and rocky hills!
Fun place to take the family for mothers day weekend. I would have thought being a State park they would bring in a grader to leavel out the dirt roads and RV sites. Otherwise it was a great time

This is a very bad camp. For $40 you get electricity and water. The new looking restrooms have a pay shower stall. There is a sign on the door, No hot water. So if you want a cold shower, you can pay for it. Very bad place for a lot of money.

The pictures Ive shared should speak for themselves, but they dont even do this fantastic hidden gem enough justice. Tucked away in the mountains, Calico is conveniently located between LA and Vegas, so anyone traveling the 15 freeway should give this place an hour of their time to learn about Californias silver mining past. There is a quaint little shop where we bought a hand knit apron. There is also a hidden/abandoned Hyena Hotel built within the rocky side of the mountain. Also, several buildings restored and furnished to 1800s living conditions. 5 stars!

Nice clean campground. We dont use any of the amenities, but they are available if you need them.We have stayed here before and dis not get service, but this stay we got service.
This place is very unique, I enjoy being here when I want to feel my mom close, my dad enjoys it here too, this place also reminds me of my grandma she was from the 1800s, so I come as often as I can to relax and enjoy the quiet calm environment

I Definately grew up coming here in the 90s and now i am 34 and let me say that i brought my kid here. Please...please...please dont ever close this place.Keep this place alive. This Is a Piece of American History for us Californians. I will never forget this place...this place will forever be in my heart. This is the one stop and Peggy sues restaurant stop that you want to stop by to stretch out your feet and buy a suveneir before you head out To Las Vegas. I HEART YOU CALICO GHOST TOWN FOREVER. PLEASE KEEP IT ALIVE AND YOUR FUTURE KIDS TO SEE THIS BEAUTIFUL AMERICAN HERITAGE OF WESTERN AMERICANA.
Not enough room to park and maneuver in section B. Really should better inform the renters. Our 40 footer fit but there was little to no room for the vehicle.
An interesting look at a late 1800s western boom town. Just wish it wasnt quite so commercialized.But it was a pleasure none the less.
Good experience to see how life was 120 years back in small US Midwest town. I gave one star less because it’s commercial, there is an entry fee and need to pay for activities too.

This restored mining town feels like the downtown area of Knotts Berry Farm. The little shops and restaurants are acceptable without being terribly memorable. The attractions (train, mine tour, gold panning, and topsy turvy house) are ok if you set your sights reasonably low. I would never head all the way out to Calico just to go here, but when combined with an overnight camping trip, its a fun side activity.
We stayed in space b13 and the space sucked. Very narrow, so narrow that you cant even have a camp fire without burning up the neighbor. Bathrooms are super, super clean though.

2023-10-03 22:13:59Parents came in from out of town, we were told by staff that we could fall under their camping site since it was just two adults up to four people total. The first few days none of the staff workers had any issues. On Oct 3, 2023 we came by in the morning and had no issues, the same lady working at the front entrance decides it was her time to shine and said we could not visit the camp ground anymore without paying each visit.... obviously little flustered I explained that each site could allow up to four people and was met with immediate aggravation and hostility. After trying to show her the 4 adults per site from their own website I was just told I needed to leave the premise... I live locally and come and visit at least four times a year here with my kids, but this will definitely be my last. Not to mention we didnt even go up to calico we were just at the campsite within the four person limit....Short answer dont camp here if you plan to have visitors... then dont trust what anything the workers say because they will all contradict each other....The funny part is if you come outside the 9am-5pm you can just drive in, no campsite security or anything at the gate.This place has turned into a cash grab, half the buildings are leased and not even county ran on the hill. It shows because all the leased buildings are kept nice and clean, the county ran museums are falling apart.... sad to see.....

2023-10-28 01:59:22First, this is a CAMPGROUND! It was somewhat quiet, busy on weekends but a great spot. Bring a screwdriver or knife to jimmy the bathroom locks. If the lady person doesnt make sure the handle turns fully on both sides the door remains locked! Just knock before forcing it open!Showers are pay $1 = 5 minutes, water is the perfect temperature, in my opinion and things are clean!

2023-11-15 22:57:00This was just a drive but it was pretty cool ! I love the desert ! There were so many rocks! I was so excited ! The town reminded me of San Jacinto a little run down but I still liked it we drove by Calico ghost town and there is an area by the mountain just for dirt bikes and riding . You can camp there omg it looked like fun. the mountains look so interesting to explore.

2023-07-03 23:05:55Silver King mine tour. The tour was awesome!! Daryl is the leader of the tour. He provides a safety brief and the history of the mine prior to going into the mine. While walking to the mine he describes the geology of the land and the history of the town . Inside the mine he takes you through the Silver King showing you the original tools used by the miners and explains why they used them . Daryl takes you on an amazing adventure through the mine for 3 hours. After going through the mine he will walk you to town and explain some more history and why they did things. The total tour was 4 hours . It is an educational and adventurous tour . I took my three daughters 15,14, and 13, they loved it. My wife had a blast too. Thank you Daryl .

2023-11-15 16:16:04Small cabins with AC and a small porch .Toilettes and showers in a separate building.Be aware that the restaurant stops taking orders at 5:00. Lots of motorhomes there is a second camping area also. Great place for off road vehicles.

2023-10-31 14:48:12The campground is right next to the ghost town, which makes it pretty cool. Cemetary and ghost town close at 5. Wish I could troll the cemetery at night on Halloween eve, but thats ok, Im sure its closed at night for a reason. Its a nice campground but not really maintained. Fire pits not cleaned out, trash all over the place, bathrooms were a complete joke of a mess, and my cabin wasnt dusted or swept. I know regional parks with these cabins in AZ that Ivestayed on were spotless. California doesnt upkeep much of anything anymore and the employees seem to be disgruntled. Also, lots of annoying off road vehicles buzzing around not paying attention to their surroundings or other people walking around. But there IS night security. Id stay here again, but Id bring my own cleaning supplies next time!

2023-10-14 04:31:04I didnt do any camping, but I had never been there before. It was nice. The little day trip saw some interesting things. I definitely recommend going to the mystery spot. Have to buy tickets, but there are not that much. The guy who was working cant remember his name, but he really went all out and was talking like an old cowboy tried putting some cowboy swagger into his walk. It really helped make it a fun experience. I would have given it 5 stars, but for a couple of reasons, 1 the little ice cream shop wouldnt take cards cause their wi-fi was out even though all the other shops around it worked just fine had to use an ATM paid 5 bucks for that just to buy my kids ice cream 2nd thing only 2 places to eat the main restaurant was booked for a private event all day so we had to go to alot smaller place was so busy being the only one open with only a couple of staff I had to wait 30 to 45 mins for my order

2023-07-16 06:44:30If you have a chance to check out Calico Ghost Town, I highly recommend it. I have been there twice and enjoyed each visit. It is fun for all ages. There is a fee to enter the ground and tours are offered, train ride and mine walkthrough for an additional fee. I think they are all worth it.

2023-11-09 22:42:09(Began stay on 08OCT23) The campsites are very rough, with rocks up to the size of bowling balls scattered about. (This despite the claim that the CG was restored after the recent rain event.) Dont even think about putting out your mat, as you would break an ankle on the concealed rocks. The nearest water spigot did not work, and was not fixed while we were there. (Yes, I reported it.) The restrooms/ showers were good, but the doors would often be locked.Berdoo County has a thing or two to learn about operating a campground.
