Came for dinner on a Wednesday Night and it was slow with about 20 % of the tables taken. Nice service, very polite.We ordered edamame to start, and they give you A LOT, and its in a deep dish plate so all the sauce is there for you to redip some edamame if want.For rolls, we got the Anaheim -- this was alright, classic roll to balance out the Taco Mexicano which was such a fun surprise! Honestly, you should go to try this roll, they NAILED the taste, my brain did not know it was eating sushi because it tasted like a taco but the best of both worlds!!We also got salmon nigiri to test out their fish and rice, and the fish was nice and fresh but their rice wasnt seasoned enough, rice was a bit hard.Overall will come back, to try a few rolls!

Waiter took our order and we waited an hour for our food to get served and it turned out the order was never placed. Waiters kept passing by including an instant in which one of the waiters asked the side tables if they needed everything and ours was skipped, maybe because we didn’t have food served, but either way I kept seeing that they would look over and no one approached us until about the hour. Sadly, I can’t even say it was packed as there was about 4-5 tables with customers. We ended up leaving. They need better attention to customers waiting for a long time. Hopefully this was just a one time occurrence as this place does have good sushi.

California Sushi is a great spot to grab some lunch with friends and family or even have a romantic dinner. This visit I had lunch with my buddy. We decided to go with the Bonita roll, spicy tuna, crunch, and the Indy. California Sushi does some amazing rolls with lemon slices. The Indy is one of them. When I say the flavor of this roll was an explosion in your mouth Im not exaggerating. It was delicious 😋 Staff is super attentive and nice. All of the plates going by looked great and smelled so good. They have a great selection of rolls, hot plates, appetizers and even some beers and drinks. Outside patio is available if you want to snack and people watch. Definitely a must try when visiting Third Avenue.

This is my daughters favorite restaurant to eat at. She loves their lunch special teriyaki chicken. For $8.95 its a great value and they have 4 other options. You get miso soup, 4 pieces of a Cali or spicy tuna roll, salad, steamed rice and your entree choice. Our only negative criticism is the salad. Eaten here numerous times and the salad is not that great. The dressing is gross and greens usually appear to be less than crisp. But everything else is top notch. And they dont charge extra for you to carry out your miso soup as with other Asian restaurants and sushi spots. THEIR SUSHI IS BOMB and they have a large selection as well.

I love their jalapenos appetizers! Best in town! Food is really good. they also have lunch specials which afe really cheap. Nice place located in downtown Chula Vista. Always enjoy a good dinner or lunch followed by a nice walk in downtown.

Simply sushi,I love the sushi here! Unlike others I’ve been to this sushi is fresh, prepared quick and taste great! Dynamite roll is my favorite! Featured is the Temecula roll.With so many places to eat sushi some have the environment but lack in service. Even though the ambiance of this establishment is not as traditional the sushi is definitely delicious!They offer some lunch specials but not much towards diner time. Prices are what you would expect of a sushi restaurant in San Diego.Overall I keep coming back for the friendly service and tasty rolls.For the owner, I think the establishment could be more modernized; including more happy hours of sushi; and include an overall theme.The establishment feels very bought not taken over. I understand sushi isn’t cheap but maybe include some more sushi deals. Lastly, it’s fairly obvious this place was simply bought and lacks a true “theme.” The name California sushi doesn’t really inspire a even California vibe. I’d say invest more into the establishment. Other than that fantastic joint!

The last 3 weeks I have ordered delivery and I dont know if they changed chef or what but they have not put attention to my requests. Very disappointing.Ive been eating or ordering delivery since 3 years ago and had no problem, but lately either something is missing, or what I ordered is wrong or the rolls fall apart. And with those prices (high) you expect great taste, service and presentation.Sorry to say it definitely has not been that lately.

Staff are super nice, both in person and over the phone. Got a california roll. It came out quick and was a great price considering the size. Wasabi had a strange texture and it seems like it may be lower quality (though Im sure its just green horseradish anyway). Ill definitely come back to try some other rolls in the future.

I loved the presentation and presentation of our Sushi rolls. We ordered the Exorcist as well as the Jalapeno roll and the California and crunchie roll. The service was great and for our first time being there, we were so pleased. Cant wait to come back again and try something new. Awesome job!!!

I had this little hole in the wall last night. I was expecting it to be not that great but was pleasantly surprised that is was really good. I started off with some Miso Soup,and Fried Gyoza both were good but I have mixed feelings of the dipping sauce for the Gyoza. Then I order the Chula Vista roll, it was different from what I was use to but it was still very good. I Ended with the very Sweet Bakersfield Roll Shrimp,Cream Cheese, Banana, in a sweet sauce. Great for a dessert.

This is the second time I visit this place and it will be my last.On both occasions the same thing has happened.We got greeted and promptly seated,Place was not busy and it was clean.person #1 took my order,Person #2 delivered drinks,20 minutes later we received one of the four rolls we ordered, waited another 10 minutes for the rest of our order.We had to get one of the servers and ask for the rest of the order.After this she came back and said they were working on them and walked away.Food was good but not woth the wait.

Sushi was a little dissapointing. They used the paper type wrap for their spider roll which was a let down, and the soft shell crab was overcooked. Also had a Bonita roll which I found lacking. Perhaps was just bad luck, but i will give them another attempt later with their other dishes.

Zero stars if I could. HARD PASS find somewhere else if u could. Told me it would take 45 mins for a sushi roll to go. This place is wack!!! I told the lady at the front that I am just asking for food to go but she told me we cant put your food in front of others. I used to like coming here with great service. This was the last time Im coming due to service and they keep getting more and more stingy. When you order a roll I used to get 10 pieces and now I get 8 with the same price. I was like OK I know economy but now it has become smaller versions of the 8 pieces. The rice with shrimp now has less shrimp and less rice. Seriously you stingy on rice. Ive gone to so many other places with better prices for the rolls with great taste. This last time I went they said because the roll has avocado I needed to pay $3 more. Plus with all this there service has gone down. Thats the final for me. I try being loyal I can understand certain things but service being crappy upon the rest. Im out.

A cute place and on third ave, the location is great. I went there for sushi rolls and shrimp fried rice. the food was incredibly bland and uninspired. The rolls were mediocre at best. The shrimp fried rice was literally just fried rice and shrimp. Im used to it having veggies and maybe some egg in it as well. I was really disappointed and wont be going back.

I come here for take out at least once a week. The staff are wonderful, attentive and friendly. The menu is clear and the staff is very knowledgeable about the sushi they sell. If you think this is the best sushi you’ve ever had I am sorry for you.. My husband and I were disappointed with the quality of the sushi and food. We both ordered salmon teriyaki bowls our salmon was way over done and dry. Please do not offer salmon if you don’t know how to cook it. The salmon on our sushi was dry too. We also ordered the lemon roll and some kind of special salmon roll. We agreed this was the worst sushi we’ve ever had and was not worth the 50 bucks. Ive eaten sushi in Japan so I might have a different standard. The ambiance and flair are about what youd expect but much different that an actual sushi bar in Kyoto. The flavors of each piece of fish are nearly identical. Which again, was about what youd expect from fish that has been refrigerated for so long. I give them four stars for effort, but considering the name of the place, Id have liked to have seen more effort put forward on the actual sushi.

Well dont know how to describe the stupid experience I just had. So we ask to sit down on the bar, the server told us to go head and sit whatever you want. which the whole bar was empty! So We sit on the first three chairs my wife and I we left the fist one open just to not be on the corner! Then one of the cooks on the bar with the glasses and mustache tell the server to move us over to the end because he had a reservation which no sign was on any spot. We move over. then still the whole bar empty they put a reservation sign where I was sitting before I move. Why in the world will you move a customer from were he choose to sit!! They didnt even say please or ask if we can move they have no respect and customer service at all! I Dont recomend you to waist your time on this place. Specially with that Cook which I looks like the person in charged.

I brought my daughter to my hometown to celebrate her birthday and have amazing food, this place was referred to me by a local friend. It was hands down the BEST sushi I ever had, also that my daughter ever had. We ordered so much food. I had the best calimari ever, and I am not exaggerating when I say that I miss it already. Their grilled octopus was charred and delicious, with an avocado mousse like aoli. The tuna wonton was fresh and with a touch of lemon and spice. Miso soup was great. My daughters exorcista roll was so tasty and her shrimp tempura handroll was devine. The staff was polite and I did not mind the 30% tip at all. Prices were more than decent compared to the quality of food. I believe my bill was about $90 but I would have paid double that without blinking. Will come back every time Im back in town, and am already planning a trip to bring my friends from LA just to try the food!!!!

The place looks different from the Google Maps picture, it is more modern now. The place is fascinating, it has everything a person wants: great service, cute little stablishment, good locations, and decent prices. Sushi rolls go from $3.95 (veggie roll) to about $11 (Specialty rolls) but they also have lunch and dinner specials. The service is excelent and theyre very friendly.

The Bakerfield used to be a Philly roll with cilantro and jalapenos. It was to live for. Drove down from Carmel Valley for it and it has bananas, shrimp and teriyaki sauce now. Yuk. My Rainbow roll fell apart as it went toward my mouth. The calamari was shoe sole chewy and the teriyaki chicken was tough. We will never go there again and it was my go to sushi spot only 5 yrs ago. 😞

The worst service I have wvwr experienced after placing our order the waitress never returned to check up on us. Took 50 minutes to get 2 ordered of edamame. Apparently our order had gotten missplaced... this aight the airport and thats not out luggage its my danm food order. Ive been going to this sushi place ever since they opened over 15 yrs ago. They have very good rolls and hot dishes as well. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. Very disappointed with the quality of the service and the food. We got two sushi rolls and two hand rolls for carry out. Once we got home we realized one sushi roll was missing. We let them now we were coming back to get it and they offered a complimentary apetizer for the incident... When we get back home home again and sit down to eat we see they gave us edamame which still was frozen, only served Wasabi and ginger in one roll and the hand rolls were FULL of rice with a VERY SMALL strip of eel inside. The taste of the rice on the sushi roll had that hard texture when the rice gets kind of old.

We arnt from San Diego but have been here for 3years and tried ALOT of sushi places. This is our FAVORITE. I have been there a few times and I really like the food. Service could be better, but the food makes up for it. Definitely a place to check out for the food.
