Just moved to the area and I was curious about this place.. finally got to try it for the first time with the family.. It definitely exceeded my expectations! Everything was very delicious and so fresh tasting! The place was old school looking but very clean & ALL the staff was very nice as well! We ordered the chicken chow mein, orange chicken with sauce on side..an order of steamed rice and dumplings! It was all amazing..We will definitely be coming back here again!

A very casual Cantonese restaurant that looks like it was at one time a coffee shop. The waitress was very kind and helpful and the food was traditional Chinese that you might’ve had growing up as a kid. Pork fried rice was excellent, the chicken chop Suey was more like a chicken stirfry with vegetables but also good and the special barbecue pork spare ribs we’re good but may have had a little too much syrupy flavor to them. Great for families as the portions are huge and the restaurant is very casual. Enjoyed it.

I love this place. A hidden gem. The service was and still is amazing. I brought my daughter here because I was brought here when I was a kid she loved it. The food was amazing. The customer service experience was amazing. The food was so good from the tea to my main dish. You wont regret coming here. Thank you for this amazing experience. We will be coming back ❤️

Been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid. My mother and her parents used to come here when she was a teen, now I bring my own children as well. It was sad to see the original owners leave however, the new staff is attentive and friendly. The food continues to be good however, I do see smaller portions.

The most authentic cantonese taste!Only one suggestion: you have like 10 parking spots in the back, and your family and employee take half of them. How are customers supposed to be able to consume, if they cant even get to the restaurant? Just a question.

Great Customer service and assistance. Egg Foo Young was really good and came in nice portions sizes. The Kung Pow Chicken was fully packed and flavorful. They gave us some nice cookies to go with the meal and just was the little bit extra that set it over the top. Takeout order was a breeze and overall a place would try again. Only issue was they messed up my order of Chow Mein for Chop Suey and that wasnt even that much an issue in the end because that was delicious too haha.

The food is not the same. I have been a customer for many years, and the sweet and sour chicken was made with dry white chicken, the egg fried rice and shrimp lo mein was bland. New management and kitchen staff are not as good as the previous owners of staff.

My wife and I have been coming here for over 30 years! With out Wendy this place went down hill! My wife came here with her friend and it was awful! Over priced, food not the same and bad service. Now they a automatically add an 18% tip on your bill. Even though it’s not deserved. This new young manager is very rude, bad attitude and disrespectful to the long time customers! I will take my business back to Chinese Garden in montebello!👎🏼

We ordered four dishes. They are not those Americanized Chinese food! I won’t say the taste is as good as high end Chinese restaurant, but pretty authentic and cheap for the price we paid. My friend and I enjoyed our meal. By the way the drinks are pretty decent, they have to go drink menus as well.

OMG Almond duck in brown gravy OMGIf you grew up with chinese food from Far East restaurant in Los Angeles this is thethird best thing (the second best we found is a tale out only place in the Soutbay). Besides almond duck, they have shrimp in lobster sauce, chow mein eith psn fried noodles, and moreof what we grew up with and loved in L.A.

Food was Meh! I requested my chicken 🐔 n rice dish sans sauce. regardless of my request, my dish was slathered and awash with sauce. Tell chef no need to overwhelming the dish with sauce. Sometimes less is better. The atmosphere was just ok. Furnishings were not very good. Kinda old . Perhaps will try again with another dish. My friends seemed to like it. I wouldnt recommend this spot

Ive driven by this place numerous times. It was time to check it out. I like to think that a good hot sour soup will be an indication of the flavors to come in subsequent dishes. The soup was not bad. I would have preferred fresh mushrooms over the canned stuff, but the soup was still tasty. The owners were very attentive and gave excellent service. The owner recommended I add the crispy noodles, they give at the start, to the soup. Excellent suggestion!. I also ordered the Canton lo mein. It was delicious. The shrimp were fresh and the chicken tender. What I really liked about this place was that the flavors were mild. They were not overpowering with vinegar and other condiments. Great mom and pop place! It was clean and service was quick. You can tell that the owners take great pride in their establishment. I definitely will return to try other items on the menu. Lunch would be a good time to come since they offer combination plates.

The new manager is rude, hostile attitude to long-time customers. Passive aggressive responses when questioning service. I forgot my food that was packed to go, called, and his defensive tone and delivery was inappropriate. This service by this younger generation is totally unpleasant. When speaking to me on the phone, he hurried me up and said he was busy and hung up the phone on me. Wendy, the previous managers would never ever take that tone with her customers of many years. She comes at the 1st of each month, and I will be sure to come and speak my concerns of this high-maintenance immature manager that is currently in charge, who comes across with a very bad disposition and uneducated with customer service.

Ive been coming here since before my daughter was born. She’s 17 now. Wendy not only has our order memorized she always spends a few moments to catch up with us. Egg drop soup is the perfect starter along with our crispy noodles and ketchup. Lol.Chicken chop suey with fresh veggies, pork fried rice (best ever), Mongolian beef (ask Wendy for it with noodles for the hack) food is always steaming hot and fresh! 10 out of 10 for me.

Funny how it seems that during the pandemic restaurant quality went down everywhere. And with no dining in people seemed to just let it slide. After all whose gonna get home eat and drive all the way back to send a dish back. And now it seems to be getting worse as the price of ingredients is rising so much. Seems canton city has chosen to use bottom of the barrel stuff for their orange chicken or should I more accurately call it somewhat orange like dry chicken erasers. And I never thought anyone could mess up my favorite dish Walnut Shrimp enough to where I wouldnt want to eat it. I will never and I mean never be going back. Only reason they got 2 stars is cause my wife liked the egg rolls. But then again this is a woman who uses A-1 steak sauce like syrup on pancakes. Sorry babe.

I love this place so much! My family has been coming to this restaurant since I was a child. Wendy is the absolute best! She always greets us with such warmth and great hospitality. Even when the restaurant is busy, she makes sure to stop by and say hi to my parents and brothers. She is incredibly sweet and the food is delicious.I would say that Canton City is Montebellos best-kept secret, but it seems to me like everyone already knows and should know about this treasure!

Where we usually eat Chinese food has closed. We found this place by my niece so we tried it out and we love it original Chinese food. If anybody out there wants to eat Chinese food try this place it is great we tried it 2 weeks ago then we went back a week later. We will keep going back it is so good. Went here last night for the first time in 30 years. This is the way Great Chinese food used to taste. I got so used to all the generic Chinese fast food out there. This place is awesome. Next item to try on their menu will be their chow main which surprisingly has no noodles its all bean sprouts!! My sister recommended this place. Its way of the path fior me, but she raved about it. It happened to be on my way home this day. She told me to get the Mongolian beef. She knows I love PF Changs Mongolian, as she does. So I had to try. Glad I did. It was perfectly flavored, sweet and spicy, onions were cooled well. I also ordered paper wrapped chicken. It was comes off chicken instead of minced. It was good, but needed a little more meat. Its a nice comfortable clean dining room. Had ample parking. Good was great. Ill come back.

The food at this place reminds me of the Cantonese food we used to get when I was a kid. I dont know if the same owners owned the restaurant in L. A. that we used to go to but could swear the same cook is making the food at this restaurant. This was my mother in laws favorite Chinese restaurant when she was alive. This place has been at this location for several decades. The waitress is friendly and funny. My husband and I have been coming here for over 25 years. The food is not trendy but it has a following. Its always packed. The fried shrimp are light and crispy. The egg fu young is always a favorite. The cashew chicken is another of my favorites. Go with a group of friends or family so you can share. Everything is hot and fresh, made to order. Food that the whole family can enjoy. Not spicy. Although, you can ask for hot sauce and chili if you like.

This place was amazing. I had been looking for a good Chinese food place. Prices are good. As soon as you walk in you are greeted and seated by friendly staff. You are served hot tea and tasty crispy things that looked like noodles. I ordered Mongolian beef, shrimp fried rice, orange chicken and low mein noodles. This place is a fantastic place for an inexpensive clean balanced Cantonese family meal. The staff is attentive, the meals are good, theres plenty of parking, and they dont hold back with the air conditioning. Prices are beyond reasonable and you can order take out!

Ive been coming to this restaurant for 45 years at least.Best authentic Chinese food in the Montebello area.I sometimes still crave it and I visit from 25 miles away.Food always tastes the same. The food is pretty good but the lady at the front counter added a $5 tip to my 80yr old grandmothers take out bill without asking. When my grandmother tried to hand her a couple bucks the lady replied its ok I already put $5. Thats stealing not a tip. Especially for a take out order.

Does anyone remember Far East Cafe in little tokyo well I remember after the cafe closed about 30 years ago, two of the waiters worked at Canton City. And the food is prepared exactly as the far East cafe.These dishes egg foo young, shop suey, bbq ribs, fried rice and fried shrimp taste the same as old far east cafe. I believe possibly other dishes taste the same too. I love the food. And it takes me back. Great memories. Canton City Best place in town

I wont be back. It wasnt extremely terrible or anything but a friend and I went on our lunch break. We ordered the war wonton soup and the beef and broccoli lunch special. The soup came out in about 10 minutes but it wasnt hot ( little warmer than luke warm) but no biggie. After our soup had been finished and every other table had their food even though they came and ordered after us I asked the waiter about the beef and broccoli he said it was coming and finally brought it out over 30 minutes of us ordering. Well to my surprise I had plenty of broccoli but only 4 (yes 4) thin slices of beef. Our 30 minute lunch turned into 50 and wasnt completely satisfied. I hate writing bad reviews but I didnt care for this place at all. As I said in the beginning, I wont be back.

This place was one of my childhood favorites and after my recent visit, still is. My lunch of course started off with egg flower soup. Clear broth and packed with flavor. Not salty just yummy. I had Chicken Chop Suey. Again in a light sauce so it didnt take away from the mix of fresh vegetables. Rice was a bit underwhelming but good and I dont know but even the almond cookie tastes different. Definitely worth a try when visiting the Montebello area.

Best Chinese food in the area!Canton City has been around for years, since I was a teenager (more than 30 years)! Being around that long has GOT to say something!The food is prepared fresh and not sitting out and the ingredients used are also very fresh. Sometimes youll see them cleaning the green beans and snow peas at a back table.My favorite it the chop suey, made fresh sprouts, the ginger is also very good and on a cold evening, I love their war wonton soup.If you like Scezhuan Chinese food youll love this place!Highly recommended!

This place reminds me of eating chinese food when I was a kid. None of the fake noodles in a foam container that are abundant everywhere. This place uses the real vegetable noodles for their chow mien. The sweet and sour, almond chicken, shrimp and egg rolls and wor won ton soup are the best. I have been looking for a place like this since my old chinese restaurant, Kum Po on Rosem ad Blvd in Pico Rivera closed down about 15 years ago. Would definitely recommend this place especially for old time chinese restaurant lovers like myself.
