Cute museum! The place feels quite modern and its relaxing to look around. Therere a lot of different rooms with separated thematic objects (African, American, European, paintings, pictures, statues etc.). The place is small and its possible to visit it in 1 hour and half. I was satisfied by the various experiences and changing expositions.The entrance is free, and the staff is very polite. You have lockers for the bags.

A stunningly beautiful building. The art is a little bit of a letdown since pottery doesnt excite much. No big name artists that I could find.Free admission and free parking in Sundays..Plus easy walking distance to the stunning Stanford campus.

What a delight to see such a significant amount in a small museum. It is walkable in a short amount of time. Historically significant and a great deal to see. As someone who read the Divine Comedy, I was particularly interested in Rodins sculptures.

This is an amazing place to visit. It Serves the Bay Area community and visitors from around the world, It provides an outstanding cultural experience for visitors of all ages. I was told that the Cantor’s collection spans 5,000 years works of art from around the globe. These include renowned collection of Rodin bronze sculptures, which are displayed inside the museum as well as in outdoor Rodin Sculpture Garden. Itis also an established resource for teaching and research on campus. There are admission, tours, lectures, and family activities.

The Canter Arts Center was beautiful. We reserved a guided tour of the sculptures of Rodin that was very interesting. We also enjoyed the other exhibits and artwork. The inside of the museum is stunning. Would definitely recommend visiting Cantor Arts Center at Stanford.

We are in the area, not really plan to visit museum but we did. Admission is free but need to make a reservation and get your free tickets at eventbrite, it only take few minutes to do that😄 Beautiful and very clean museum. Very kind and helpful staff. Restroom available. Cafeteria nearby you get hungry. Parking is available nearby. Visitor pay parking during weekdays. So much learning, thank you all so much! Love everything!

This is my first writing a review about a museum, and it is my honor dedicate my first review to this prestigious museum. First, I would like to clarify that I am not museum expert nor curator. My understanding to art history is minimal and this review is purely from a typical visitor standpoint. With that said, let me begin to praise how good this place is.First, this place has a Free admission. Yes! You read it right! It is free of charge to visit this museum.This place has all variety kind of artwork and antique, from stoneware from 200BC to modern painting and from eastern ancient calligraphy to western modern sculpture. My favorite one is the Buddha statue from Ming Dynasty in China and the famous New York dining painting by Edward Hoppers.The collection and variety in this place are better than other museum you can find in the bay area. And, they charge a hefty fee for admission (except for certain day of the month for certain resident). So, I was very happy with my visit to the Cantor art center. The parking was easy. What else can I ask for?However, they do require online reservations in advance for admission. No charge, but need reservation.

It is a good museum, very big and there are so many rooms and lots of history. Very nicely displayed all items. I have booked tickets from Eventbrite and it was free. Also parking in free here. Covid precautions are there in place. There are 2 floors and I would recommend to have at least 2-3 hours if want to view entire museum. But if you are going to visit with children those are not interested in history then it will be difficult to stay for 2 hours (my daughter got bored in 1.5 hours and cranky 🙄).

This is a gorgeous museum and we’re so lucky to have it in Palo Alto. It’s packed with sculptures and great paintings, plus the building itself is pretty. It’s the second best Rodin Museum I’ve been to (the other was in Paris). To top it off, it’s free!

We went to the museum for Family Day, the event was well organized and perfect for kids to spend a cultural day (craft/music/exhibition). Free access to the museums without registration that day. We were surprised to find the collections of Auguste Rodins beautiful works. Free parking on the campus during weekend is a plus.

A really nice art museum with arts from various regions/counties and different forms. I feel like its a hidden gem as it is not very crowded so you can actually enjoy the arts. Its also free - you just need to register online. 4 hour visitor paid parking in the front Monday through Friday and free over the weekend.

Remarkable Ruth Asawa exhibition ( not fair to show novice photos of her works here).The place is devoted to Rodin sculptures with a sampler side order of eclectic art work, but the Ruth Asawa exhibition is underrated and yet the jewel of the building.The sculptures (99.9%) Rodin are placed at a low table top level, insufficient lighting (see photos), and organization of the exhibition!If one needs to study Rodin in a sophmorish, elaborate building and financially gifted architecture then visit.

I can’t believe this museum is FREE. I am grateful that Stanford University allow the public to enjoy this large collection for no charge. You have to make a reservation online, once you enter, the sweet ladies at the front will scan the QR code you received for the reservation. The collection was extensive, there were special exhibits as well. It felt personal, many of the things were from the Stanford family and the museum was also dedicated to their son and had a small viewing of personal items their son collected, very cool and interesting stuff. I was looking for a museum around South Bay and this place is a gem.

It’s a thrilling experience. The works of Auguste Rodin are just mesmerizing, dazzling, and the museum also is in the heart of the Stanford University campus. It’s a 20 minute walk from the Palo Alto Transit Center, but the sidewalk itself is an interesting experience. You will never know when it is ended.

Concerning Experience at Museum: My family visited the museum last Saturday. In the African art section, we felt unfairly singled out by a staff member who repeatedly warned us not to touch the exhibits, even though we were cautious not to. This occurred even when observing pieces behind glass. We sought assistance from a manager to address our concerns. Its essential for museum staff to ensure the safety of exhibits without making guests feel uncomfortable or singled out.P.S.: other reviews also show this facility is unfriendly to kids. So why dont you just change your policy to disallow child visit?

What a treat! This place is tucked into the Stanford University campus and is full of permanent collection artwork spanning from the early Egyptian and Roman Empire all the way to the modern exhibit (Ends 1/6/2019) of Andy Warhols photography.The outdoor Rodin sculpture garden is a must-see. The indoor rotunda housing The Thinker is incredible to see up close as it is rather large.The Andy Warhol exhibit was the highlight of the museum. With so much photos, contact sheets, enlargements and subsequent prints/silkscreens which lead to Warhols iconic works. The celebrities depicted in his photos are a great time capsule of those times (70s and 80s) and NYC nightlife.A must-visit location.Did I mention its free. Tours are free as well.

Beautiful museum with art and historic artifacts from around the world. You need a free online reservation to get in.The European history art section is mind-blowing and it was such a vivid and lovely experience. There are exhibits on both floors and the entrance is awe-inspiring. Very impressed by the collection this museum has and it’s a perfect afternoon spot to check out. There’s also a cafe on the first floor for when you’re thirsty or hungry. Would visit again when they have any new collections.

If you enjoy strolling through a museum this is a great place to go! It has a wide variety of things on display from ancient to modern. You can easily spend hours here. There is a bike rack outside and free parking on weekends. ntry is free but I reccomend you reseve prior to the date on their website because it is something that they will ask for when you arrive to control the flow of people.

You need a reservation to get into the museum through Eventbrite. Not sure why you need reservations, it’s such a big building and it’s never that crowded when I’ve been there. I don’t love being forced to give out my info and then get emails after. The atmosphere seems more intense post Covid, I can’t put my finger on it, but the art is worth a visit! We enjoyed lunch at the cafe and the sculpture garden outside. Note that it’s closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

The museum is gorgeously designed with various collections. The Rodin reproductions are beautiful, and the Home artworks are thought-provoking. Reopening admission is currently free but you have to reserve tickets and arrive on time to maintain Covid-19 protocols. Prepare to spend from 1 to 2 hours in the museum if you want to check out all the exhibits and take beautiful pictures.

We tried to use the elevator to enter since one of us had difficulty with steps. We entered the elevator and could not get the door to work. Then an ear SPLITTING alarm went off and would not stop. We were able to exit the elevator(I hope we dont go deaf) and entered up the steps. We told her about the alarm. She said she thought she heard it, but showed NO Concern. The exhibit was great. The service was not.

Outstanding museum on the Stanford campus thats free and well worth the price of admission. There is an excellent diversity of art and history under one roof that surprised me. What a wonderful museum! I love museums theyre always my first stop wherever I go and this is one is a must, theres something for everyone! Having worked in a museum for some time I must admit the descriptions were so thoughtful and engaging, I wanted to read every single one. Subtle connections made between art from one gallery to another and one era to another, and no shying away from discussing colonialism and postcolonialism, whats more its free! Grab a foldable seat from the front entrance and explore!PS slight error in one of your Rodin descriptions, its the Petite école with an e at the end of petite as école is feminine ;)

Wonderful art museum at the Stanford campus. It is open to the public for free, is easily accessible, and has really good permanent as well as temporary exhibits. And it has a wealth of Rodin bronzes as part of its permanent collection. People will naturally gravitate towards The Thinker but I think The Gates of Hell is much more interesting.

Great collection, well displayed.Ancient, modern, east, west, north, south, it is all there. Rodin is very well represented, and there are small galleries that change frequently and have yummy and sometimes unexpected items. For example, Max Klinger (not the one from M.A.S.H.) prints. Many museums have little or nothing from Africa. Continent-wise, I think Cantor is only short on art from Antarctica.

A hidden gem of a bay area museum. Free and somehow not even crowded on weekends. Parking is easier on weekends but very difficult during the week. The collection is expansive, its hard to see everything in one visit if you go to the new modern art gallery plus the original museum next door, and outdoor Rodin sculpture garden. There is something for everyone to see from OKeefe & Rothko to ancient Chinese & Egyptian artifacts.

What is there to not love about this art museum that has the caliber of MoMA or other majors, yet tucked away in a relatively quiet area? This museum is under pronounced and less known, thanks to it being within Stanford, yet it is a sanctuary for many locals and visitors. Dont think this is just a pop-up display style of museum in a university. It will take you hours to see everything and truly appreciate what it has to offer. Plan enough time for Cantor. Theres so much to see and feel. And when done, roam around the campus and enjoy life, culture, and the meaning of existence.

I absolutely adore Rodins sculptures, and Cantors collection is second to none. Ive been to the Rodan Museum in Paris, and I greatly prefer Cantor. The museum in Paris has more pieces, but they are cramped together so tightly that you cant really appreciate most of them.Make sure to visit the outside sculpture garden to the left side of the museum as youre facing it. Some of the best pieces are there, including The Gates of Hell. And go over to the plaza in front of the plaza in front of Memorial Church to visit what I consider the greatest sculptures in the world, the only exception being the Pieta: The Burghers of Calais.

Surprisingly small, but a ton of wonderful art inside and out. Rodin sculptures are outside and inside as well. You would never think of having these sculptures outside of Paris, but they are. They have a good mix of installations, paintings, and other sort of mediums inside. A wonderful space where you can stay the afternoon or the whole day if you want. A plus is that there is no admission fee.

Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts museum is a must see for a contemporary art lover. I enjoyed it so much - even got a t-shirt for my good friend. Infinity room is my next goal to visit. It is very hard to get into infinity room without reservation and specially on weekends:( But I plan on going back again - what an enjoyable time I had at Iris & B. This is my absolute favorite comfort spot. The building is gorgeous. The outdoor Rodin pieces are treasures. The grounds are impeccably designed with plenty of ambiance for meditation and appreciation. Next door to the Cantor is a collection of contemporary work but inside is an easy way to spend an entire afternoon without getting bored! Upstairs houses a family friendly zone amidst the galleries. Speaking of, they are well curated and diverse. The docents are friendly and informed; I enjoy their conversation every time. The cafe menu is delish with an al fresco option. My entire family has valued this museum and its collection for years. Parking can be tricky during popular hours (it is on Stanfords campus so think University parking zones) but its well worth the search to park if needed be. Parking is not free during peak hours but its free otherwise. Again, well worth it.

You are not likely to find a better free art museum on the left coast. When combined with the Rodin sculptures outside, this is a must-see cultural experience on par with many principal museums. Even if you only have ½ an hour, stop by and see the sculptures. The museum and sculpture garden can be very comfortably visited in under two hours, but an hour will do you well. If you have a few minutes extra, cross the parking lot (East of Lomita, North of Museum Way) to see the Stone River by Andy Goldsworthy, slightly below ground level for a hidden gem.

Visitor parking is limited availability $4.50 an hour and you cannot change your spot. But I guess its still a good deal because admission is free. Another option is to arrive at 4 p.m. free parking so you can see the museum for free for about 50 minutes and also the outside Sculpture Garden. Or similarly better yet show up Thursday at 4 p.m. and the museum closes at 8 p.m. so you get it all for free.

The free kids days (Second Sunday) are a great way to introduce kids to art. There is a good variety of different pieces from various periods at this museum. The African and Asian sculptures offer a nice juxtaposition with the Rodin exhibit. The modern period and realist paintings upstairs similarly offer a nice juxtaposition to engage kids with.

I knew nothing about him -came away totally enthralled by his works!The art experience which students are exposed to was very interesting, especially as it was so well explained!The story of the Stanford family too.Was unable to visit the Buddha area due to constraints of time.The garden outside is also very well laid out with the Gates of Hell and other Rodin masterpieces.Totally worth visiting.Shut on Tuesdays.

Sunday and Monday closed.You have to dedicate at least 3-4 hours to go there. So much to see. Outside the museum there is Roden statues garden. Absolutely INCREDIBLE! I stumbled upon this gem by mistake and I was absolutely awe struck. The Rodin sculpture garden is beyond serene, amazing peices throughout the space, it has a dramatic cavernous feel, wonderfully designed, and the exhibits are bathed in perfect lighting clearly tailered to match the feel of the peice. Incredible. And dont forget to check out the Anderson colletion right next door! Two expansive floors of jaw dropping contemporary peices. And to top it off, admission is free. Go. Just go.

Nice museum, but handicapped accessibility can be a nightmare.I was there with a college class tour group. The steps were impossible, so I searched around for the signs that would point me to an accessible entrance. I finally found the path down to the lift. I tried to call the lift and couldnt get it to come down. This by itself wouldnt be a problem, except theres no way to contact anyone from there (no cell signal, no call button, nothing), so I came back out to the steps. I called the museums number. It took quite some time for me to get someone on the phone to help with the issue. They sent a security guard who, all the way back to the lift, was complaining that the problem was that I just didnt know how to use it. I said I did, but she didnt believe me. When we got there, sure enough, it didnt work. She immediately knew what the problem was because it happens a lot - someone didnt close lift gate all the way. She went upstairs and closed it, and the lift worked.Huzzah, problems over right? Nope.While Id been trying to get inside, my tour group had started without me. Fair enough, she had been at the top of the steps and had no way to know I couldnt get in when Id gone to find the lift. I found them, though, and introduced myself (as a class member) to the tour guide. And this is where things became REALLY upsetting. Every time they switched floors, even though she now knew I was in the group and also knew that I had to go all the way to the lift and back, shed take the entire group out of sight by the time I got to the new floor, and Id have to do the search for them all over again. Politely mentioning it didnt help: she continued to ditch me.So I spent the entire day searching the museum for the group, finally finding them (sometimes after shed given whatever presentation she was giving for the area), only to have to search for them all over again.Worst experience visiting a museum that Ive ever had. I wont be back.
