Canyons Barbeque in Castro Valley

Finally had a chance to stop by and try this place after driving by so many times, and I wasn’t disappointed! I had no idea that the inside dining area was as big as it is. I only saw people eating outside and just assumed it was outdoor dining only. Boy was I wrong!The staff there are super nice and helpful. They answered our questions about what the popular items were, and had patience as we took a little while to choose between all of the great options!We settled on ribs & the brisket, both of which were really good. Another huge bonus was the soda machine! It has a lot of great unique flavors, not your typical basics. This place is great. I’ll definitely be returning.

The pulled pork sandwich I had was absolutely delicious. The pork was slow-cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of smoky taste. The bun was soft, with a tasty garlic flavor and provided a great contrast to the savory pork. Overall, a great combination of flavors and textures. My husband got the brisket sandwich, the meat was cooked perfectly and it was very flavorful. Highly recommended!Also, when they run out of meat, they’re done for the day with it! Today they were already out of the chicken and tri-tip and it was only around 1pm.

Delicious bbq, just wish the portions were a bit more for the combo we ordered. Enjoyed the outdoor seating. Overall, great local bbq spot.

The smoked meats were great. Brisket was Falling Apart. The rib had a nice sweet honey glaze on them and the tritip was nice and dinked with a great smoke ring. Some of the best bbq in the East Bay. The sides were just ok Mac and cheese was definitely the best out of the things we tried. The coleslaw was meh but it was better then photato salad which none of us really cared for it. Great beer/wine and soda selection. Overall wed go back and bring more friends and it a lot of food for the price which these days is hard to come by. Definitely worth the money

Breakfast Taco was great. She made me fresh coffee, which was way better than the place next door.

This place has incredible smoked BBQ and lots of beers on tap! Plus a huge craft beer selection of cans from Alvarado Street brewery and local craft beers. The ribs fell off the bone and were super juicy and tender. Pretty cool patio with fire pit, definitely coming back -

Very good quality food. We did not have to wait very long and the beer menu is great. We had the 3 piece menu, chicken just fell apart and the brisket was a show stopper. We found it very welcoming. Great experience 👍

Not understanding the negative reviews here, still in their soft opening but the service was good. The food was good. Theres the outdoor seating area next to the smoker. Theres an indoor seating area, theres some street parking and or parking in the marketplaceOrdered:Lil plate which was more than enough foodBrisket 10/10Garlic bread 6/10 okMac and Cheese side 9/10The brisket was so tender it fell apart. No knife necessary and very tasty. The garlic bread was okay. Not great, not awful. A little unnecessary. I was torn on which side to order and they recommended the mac and cheese and it was very goodThey have merchandise for sale inside and a huge mural and the indoor dining area

Food was very tasty and flavorful. Unfortunately, the food wasnt hot. It was my second visit and I will probably give them another try. Really appreciate the many drink options, the Stubborn soda flavors are delicious and refreshing.

As someone who spent the first twenty years of their life between Louisiana and Texas, I’ve been very wary of barbecue in the Bay Area. I was realistic with my expectations with Canyons but I was very impressed with the burnt ends and the brisket. I didn’t care for the ribs, which is why I give 4 stars instead of 5. The ribs didn’t have much meat and were mostly just fat which I’m not a fan of. The potato salad and macaroni & cheese were great, and they gave me a huge slice of garlic bread. Needless to say, the sides are fantastic. I will be back to Canyons but I’m going to pass on the ribs.
