My son volunteered for a local event today and the volunteers got discount coupons for a sandwich at Cavaretta’s. My son raved about his sandwich and cannoli and will definitely be back again. Great to see how Cavaretta’s supports the local community!

We had heard about Cavarettas from a segment shown on KABC7 and decided to try it out. Parking is very limited on Sherman Way and in the back Alley. We wrongly thought that we could eat there but only 3 tables inside and 2 outside in blazing sun makes it almost impossible so were forced to eat in our Car which was a mess. Although there exists a small menu, there are many different items in the store section of the Deli. So much in a small space you could spend over an hour checking out the various items. On the walls, shelves, and near cieling are collections of photos, Bobbleheads, signs, Christmas Stockings, and much more. The service was good and many people come in to take out. We had Deli sandwiches that were fairly good and reasonably priced. Inside of several glass covered Deli displays are many Cheeses, deserts and meats. Wine and beer and many other drinks are in glass refrigerated coolers. This Deli has been there since 1959 and caters to the people in the surrounding area.

Stopped here while driving through this area. The staff is very friendly. Ordered the hot homemade lasagna and meatball sub. The lasagna was good but salty. I didnt really enjoy it. The meatball sub on the other hand was delicious. Im craving the meatball sub writing this review 😊

Best Italian deli in Los Angeles in my opinion. I always go for the roast beef sub with extra dressing. All their pastries are excellent too, take home a cannoli or a box of cookies!

60+ Year old Italian Deli, obviously they are doing something right. Where do I start. Ive been visiting this local spot for around 25 years now. I actually drive 45+ minutes from SCV to stock up on my favorite items. Awesome Deli Sandwiches, Check! Great Selection of Italian market items, Check! Fresh Breads, Check! Italian Wine Selection, Check!, and probably one of my favorite most ridiculously good in house made Lasagnas, that they make from scratch daily. The sign in the deli says it best. If you cant smell it we dont have it Also their pastry/desert counter is very good, try the éclair, or cream puffs, but dont forget the cannoli!!!!! Call ahead and order via phone if you know your going and it can reduce your wait time. Lunch time can get pretty busy.

The sandwiches are good, the products are great, but all it takes is a sour experience to ruin a place forever. Ive spent collectively thousands here over the course of my lifetime, from lunch to standard groceries, youd think that merits more than being treated as an inconvenience by the folks on the other side of the counter. I get it. Work sucks, youre busy, and you yourself may been having a bad day, but being just plain rude is inexcusable.

Great Italian Deli, 100% authentic Italian products!! I got Turkey, Provolone cheese, bread, much more, and let me tell you. It was amazing!! Highly recommended, sometimes difficult to find parking always busy, some products pricing than others, but is worthy. Super friendly staff!! You must try this joint!!

Fantastic deli with excellent sandwiches. The service is great and there is a huge selection of drinks, chips, and groceries.It can be busy at times but it is well worth the wait. There is also a sizable parking lot in the alley behind the store.

Cavarettas Italian Deli has been a West Valley institution since 1959, and its no surprise. They havent forgotten the formula of providing a quality product, with incredible attention to detail and old school customer service!! Appropriately enough, theyre located on the west end of a section of Sherman Way, between Owensmouth and Shoup, that is known as a bit of a valley time warp....a mile and a half stretch of boulevard that harkens one back to a simpler, more analog time. Independent boutiques, craft shops, health food stores, pubs, pizza places, and Cavarettas all proudly line this length of thoroughfare largely unexploited by corporate big box stores. Walking into Cavarettas, one is instantly transported back to that simpler time....a time when kids went with their parents to the local Italian market to grab ingredients for home cooked meals, or friends met to order hand-sliced sandwiches to take for lunch at the ball game or beach. Want more proof of the old school, analog feel at Cavarettas?? The first thing one does when walking in is take a number....yep, those paper pull tickets....just like the old days at the butcher shop!! And, honestly, theres so much great eye candy in Cavarettas, from the small aisles of imported Italian ingredients in their market (one of the few places in LA to find uncut fusilli pasta....see pic!!), to the shelves upon shelves of Dodgers bobbleheads and LA rock n roll ephemera, including classic 1980s KLOS and KMET band stickers that used to be handed out at legendary LA concerts, that one doesnt even mind the wait!! The music plays behind the counter, and the employees all buzz around to the beat of the music, and seem to be having fun, as they serve customers....and that energy is absolutely infectious!! While I was waiting to be be served, The Beatles Strawberry Fields Forever was playing, and I caught the eye of one of the employees as we were both nodding our heads to the classic tune, and he immediately points to me and asks, Where are we going to? And without missing a beat I answer, Strawberry Fields! He gives a quick affirmative gesture, and says, YEA!! Now, that exchange might be one of those you had to be there moments, but it exemplifies the positive energy and rare attention to customer service that one gets at Cavarettas!! I highly recommend experiencing Cavarettas old school flavor for yourself. Pick up some hard to find ingredients for your next family meal, or grab a sandwich with some of their fresh Boars Head meats, but whatever you do, dont leave without treating yourself to one of their legendary cannolis!! 😎👍

To the best of my knowledge, and my taste buds, this is the best pastrami sandwich around the sf valley. Served steaming hot, thinly sliced and generously portioned, theres really nothing not to like. Wish I knew this place before, it has been here for quite a while, 59 years to be exact. True confession, I love delis, especially Italian ones. When I walk in to a great deli and smell the meatballs and sausage and onions and peppers, I am transported to the ethereal realm. Cavarettas is such a place. Locals will happily regale you with stories of how present owner was working at another deli as a kid and then purchased this place (evidently creating a rift between the old and the new clientele) but that was a long long time ago and those who wounds have healed... Largely. Anyway, this is a great place. The sandwiches are also fantastic and the meats and cheeses from the counter or second to none.

Delicious authentic Sub Sandwiches. From the minute you open the door the aroma will get your stomach grumbling. The desserts are just as delicious. Try the Lemon Bars and wedding cookies! Let me start off by saying we love this place and there food.We have been frequenting Cavarettas for almost 25 years and taken every family member we have here to get a sandwhich, Pasta, or there bakery goods or all three.But recently we have had the worst service and the sloppiest sandwiches made by the young lady up front. 3 times now and the first time I thought that’s funny that’s never happened here maybe it was just a off day so we went back like we always do and it happened again sloppy, rude.So this morning went in first thing at 10am when they opened and thought how can this be bad. We’ll I was wrong. Needless to say after all these years I will drive across the valley to San Carlo deli. Thank you.

Been coming here since the early 90s. Straight family joint and you feel it right when you walk in. I recommend either getting a large Italian sammich with everything or a turkey and Swiss with everything. Order by phone and pick it up. I usually grab a cream soda on the way out 👌 please make sure you tip the hard working crew. They deserve it.

Great little Italian market if youre looking to cook from home, and their deli and desserts are the best in the Valley. Their cold sandwiches and pasta are great too, but where they really shine is with their hot sandwiches. Their meatball sub is one of my favorites, ever, without a doubt. Their hot pepper steak sandwich is my favorite sandwich anywhere, hands down. This place is an institution, and if you go in (which you absolutely must) be sure to spend some time checking out the historical photos and memorabilia that adorn the walls.

If my experience yesterday had been my first experience I would never set foot in this place again. Lesson learned: never place a phone order. The woman answering the phone didnt listen or wrote the order incorrectly. Not one thing about the order was correct. My sandwich was dull, flavorless and overall bad, my friends sandwich was also wrong, there was hardly any meat in it and again wasnt made as requested. Ive been a loyal customer since 1997 and I will come back if only for the classic Italian groceries. No more sandwiches for me.

The service is excellent, family owned and operated... one of the many reasons to stop here for lunch!Their deli sandwiches and loaded with meat and cheese and the bread is fresh and delicious. This is a very old, traditional Italian Markey and deli. Everything is top quality, from the meatballs to fresh mozzarella and canolis. They have a ton of Italian products. I highly recommend the meatball sub and caprese sandwich. They sell homemade pizza dough, which is delicious. Every time I make pizza, my guests comment how great it is. You get homemade pizza for less than 3 dollars for the dough. You can buy meatballs to go that you can heat later. Family run business. The staff is always super friendly.

This place is assume for antipasto salads, and all types of subs. Small dry goods selection of pastas and some European imports. Wonderful selection of Italian deserts. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. There is parking in the rear, and on the street in front - although make sure you keep an eye on the time frames for the parking meter.

This place has been here since the 60s. Service is a little inconsistent, some workers are friendly, others act like you are simply another customer. Meats are excellent with plenty of choice. They can be ham handed with condiments, but that is taste and my opinion. Breads are good with crunch. There is a large Italian market /deli here..not just sandwiches.

This is a classic deli/market... The kind you see on TV shows but rarely see in Los Angeles... Went here for lunch with a friend. Since Im vegetarian, I had the caprese salad. It was delicious. Exactly what youd expect. Lots of fresh cheese, tomatoes and basil on a big bed of shredded lettuce. Price was good. Quality was up there. They have a little seating area with a half dozen tables, as well as a few more tables outside no so you can take your food from the counter and eat there. There was a full display case of desserts. They looked delicious... Wish I wasnt in a diet. Ill be back!

A great sandwich shop in the West Valley. They serve really great sandwiches using Boars Head meat. Be sure to pull a number right when you get in (or order by phone ahead of time if you can - there is often a line).They have a few parking spaces in the back, and plenty of metered street parking out front (along Sherman Way. I really enjoyed the Italian with the works.The bread is nice and soft, and they dont skimp on the meat and veggies. Its also a market with all the drinks (including beer and wine) you could want (beer and wine for take-home only).They have some limited indoor and outdoor seating as well. Overall, if you are in the mood for some delicious sandwiches, do yourself a favor and head to Cavarettas.

Ill start this off by saying, Im a chef & enjoy many different cooking styles including simple foods, but there are times you realize you should have cooked at home......With that being said I ordered a pepper steak sandwich, a drink, and a pastry. my friend ordered a meatball sub and virtually the same, when I got my sub I was very disappointed with how it was made.Pepper Steak comes with onions, bell peppers & cheese, all of which was not seasoned and tasted like it was just thrown together.... For a $11 sandwich I expected atleast some salt, or pepper or even a little garlic salt, just SOMETHING so it wasnt so bland, or small. This was obviously a waste of money and alone would have gotten a 0 out of 5.Meatball sub was a 2/5, better than the previous sandwich, but it lacked some flavoring & the presentation of stuffing it Lobster roll style rather than opening the bread didnt make eating it any more enjoyable.The Pastries got a 4/5 for the carrot bar & 3/5 for the eclair....All in all for $30+ in pricing I dont expect to be served like a king, but I atleast feel I should have gotten better quality than what was given......Never again

Its been here forever, an icon of the valley. A must go to place. The back entrance is filled with memories and history. Complete old school deli and Italian market including the gold sparkles in the acoustic ceiling. Too bad they cant get a sofa with a plastic slip cover in here. I get the Italian combo which is my favorite and the Meatball in the winter. Good portion size and a good price. And baseball fans will enjoy the bobble head collection. Certainly a Dodger stop, but with a connection to the Chicago Cubs. Dont miss out on this one!

Was sent here on an errand to pick up pizza dough and was taken back. Its well organized with a long deli counter and rows for canned and dried pasta. On the walls is a host of Italian whos is who from TV and film. After loading up on dough, I got a sandwich too. Take your time when you go there, and walk the store they have lots to offer. Street parking is limited but they have spots out back.

Smells just like when I was a little girl back in New Jersey. There was an Italian market down the street from where I lived. My mom would ask me to go and buy some fresh mozzarella from the market. I of course also bought an Italian icee. They had chocolate ones and watermelon ones. So good!!They say you can never go home again, well I went home for a wedding, (I have in ca for over 30 yrs) I was so sad the store was gone and the neighborhood was definitely Not the same.Cavaretta’s is the closest to home as I can get.Happy 60yrs in business!! The absolute best in Italian To-Go ordering.Ive been going to Cavarettas since 1997, when a co-worker first introduced me to it.To this day, there is NOTHING like walking in from the hot San Fernando Valley heat to the refrigerated coolness that has the heavenly aroma of the various meats, cheeses, and spices hitting you face first.This is an italian grocery store that has been passed down through hand-picked successors who will ensure that while they might update it enough to keep it clean, tidy, and efficient, they absolutely will make sure that the food is made in classic style, fresh, and the proper way.They have a full range of italian deli items from olives, pastas, imported wines, sauces, cookies, to a multitude of meats and cheeses. The Lasagna is made fresh daily, along with the meatballs for the sandwiches. The half and full sized Lasagna trays can either be cooked on site, and handed to you for immediate service, or given to you cold, wherein you cook it at home when you need to make it (Waiting for it to cook, with the smell of their Lasagna filling the house makes for the longest. hour. of. your. life.)They are famous for their sandwiches, which means that during the lunch hour, the line goes out the door, despite 5-6 very efficient sandwich makers buzzing about grabbing bread, slicing meat, and working the prep station. The bread itself is sourced from a local baker daily. With the exception of their Cold-cut combo (due to volume), every sandwich has their meat cut in front of you at time of order. Here again, driving home with the sandwiches in the car will make you consider more local real estate.They do have a small dining area, but Ive not made much use of it, so I cant comment on it too much.The Cannoli are also made on site, and taste incredible. Do not deny yourself one of these when you visit.The parking leaves a little to be desired, but that is out of their control, really.Some people have told me of sandwich shops they think are the greatest. I LOVE Cavarettas Italian groceries! It reminds me of the Italian places back east. Since I moved to Tarzana 8 years ago, Ive made a yearly tradition of visiting every Wednesday before Thanksgiving! I get my prosciutto and salami for my Thanksgiving hor doeuvres spread (I host) as well as assorted Italian cookies and a box of torroni. As a little treat for myself for cooking all day, I also get a large Italian sub with the works on it for lunch. Its fantastic!I also visit here generally before entertaining. As a struggling artist, I cant really afford to come here regularly for groceries, but I would if I could! While Im sure it varies from year to year, go with the domestic prosciutto instead of the more expensive imported because believe it or not, its better! And the spicy capicola is out of this world!Sometimes its mobbed in here, but its a number system, so you wont get looked over (unless you dont pay attention, and whos fault is that?). When they call your number, they give you perfect one-on-one attention, and I never feel like theyre rushing.The only way this could get better is if they sold the classic east coast almond Italian macaroons. Which simply DOES NOT EXIST in Southern California for some reason.Check this place out!!! Parking around back!
