The Chinese food was delicious! Highly recommended if you like spicy food but the levels are also adjustable for those with lower spice tolerance. The servers were friendly and even gave us a dish for free!

Sichuan cuisine food is really traditional here. We ordered the frog hotpot(fresh not frozen meat), cold spicy chicken and chongqing noodles, all are really good. We enjoyed and would come again!

Theres a lot of flavor and it builds up. Theres numbing spice and it tingles. Lamb is tender and goodAlso liked the Boiled Fish Filet with Pickled Veggies. Came here on a Saturday night, there were not that many people and no need to wait.The restaurant is clean and very big.The most outstanding here is their service. We didn’t decide what to order and the waiter approached proactively. He was very patient and explained every single options they have.We ordered this we saw chicken, the rib, the tofu, lamb dumplings, lamb screwed and the frog. Everything was very palatable and delicious, and the lamb rib with fries was fantastic.Highly recommend!!

Accidentally found this restaurant when exploring the bay area. Food is great and closely matches the authentic taste. The Yibin noodle tastes great but is extra extra spicy, so don’t order it if you can’t survive it. The owner is helpful and friendly. We didn’t try out the hotpot though, so no comments on that. Overall worth it given its price point.

I rarely give less than 3 star ratings to any restaurant. However, this experience was totally disappointing.Although the food looked nice, it did not taste right. The chef must have had a bad day.- The beef stir fry with onions was extremely salty to the point I wanted to return it outright. It was not edible by itself.- the lamb rib stir fry with crispy rice was not indicated to be spicy on the online menu however upon arriving at the table it was 50% pot chili and mostly bone with some actual lamb (the rest was veggies). It was not a great value for money and it was so spicy that impossible to eat.- the mixed chicken and corn soup was tasteless.The only thing that allowed us to taste the food was mixing the tasteless soup with salty or spicy main dish.Also we ordered small soup and they charged us for large soup.Should I mention that they never showed us the actual itemized bill and just had us pay outright at a machine?! I never saw my receipt.Ridiculous customer service.

Had high hopes from the high reviews and love dry pot. We came in and it was empty in the front of the restaurant, but was fairly crowded in the back. Inside is pretty clean and quite spacious. It seemed like most people were eating hot pot, but we were set on trying their dry pot. They handed us an ipad to order and it was a bit difficult to navigate since some buttons were duplicates/didnt even do anything. We ordered one lamb rib dry pot and stir fried baby bok choy and mushrooms.The food came out pretty quick. The baby bok choy came out looking really appealing with a generous portion. However, the dry pot seemed really small. It definitely seemed like one person could finish the plate. We quickly finished the dry pot, which was pretty spicy. We didnt finish the bok choy since it was a bit bland. It was not as tasty as it looked.We were pretty disappointed here. We really were looking forward to a new place where we could get good dry pot. However, it was a small portion and not enough to share. The other dish was also lacking and didnt taste that great. Service here is okay;; since ordering is through an ipad, it can be difficult to get someone for water or something (definitely necessary with the spicy food). It seems like this place is more for hot pot, but I dont think I will be coming back soon.

This restaurant was unfortunately quite a disappointment. We found the prices to be quite steep, especially considering the less than desirable quality of the food served. The service we received also left a lot to be desired, with a glaring lack of effective communication from the staff.We had an issue with the freshness of the meat - it was far from what we expected, tasting distinctly off. What struck us as odd was that when we visited on a Friday evening at 6 pm, a prime time for dining out, there were only two tables of patrons, which I suppose now speaks volumes about the establishments popularity.Additionally, its worth noting that they encourage customers to leave reviews in exchange for a complimentary appetizer. This practice could potentially skew the perception of the restaurants quality based on online reviews. So, take any glowing feedback with a grain of salt. This experience was less than stellar and I cant confidently recommend this place.

This is my new favorite restaurant. Its extremely authentic so make sure you enjoy authentic Chongqing or Sichuan food before setting your expectations. There is a lot of details in the food they provide. For example the spicy chicken appetizer is deboned (they didnt simply choose to use chicken breast which would be bland and lazy). The lamb kebab is very juicy and fatty (this is a good thing for lamb kebab). They only use fresh (non frozen) frogs for the dry pot. Anyways, Im glad there is a finally a good quality authentic Chinese restaurant. The service is decent too. Im reluctant to write my review because I hate for it to be popular and then I have to wait in line for it.

This was my first time and I will go back there again, and again for sure! This place is a gem ! Food was so delicious.Good for large group ! I have not had the hot pot but the cold chili oil noodles were great (nice springy noodles) and the mapo tofu was satisfactory. They do advertise a lunch special on their door but don’t actually offer it, which means I spent twice as much on lunch as I was intending to. At least there are leftovers!

Honestly I think this place deserves more stars. We came for dinner and ordered a bunch of dishes and they were all pretty good, large portion sizes and at reasonable price points. Ambience and service are what you would expect from a standard Chinese place.Top dishes we ordered were the lamb kebab, the bacon enoki kebab, and the szechuan boiled fish.Other basic dishes we ordered were also solid, the spicy lamb dry pot and the peashoots. The scallion pancake was a bit oily but still decent.I would definitely come again for authentic spicy Szechuan Chinese food.

Decided to try this place cause they had dry hot pot on the menu. We were handed a iPad with the menu to order from. The dry hot pot is kinda small for the price, maybe good for 2 people. We had 3 people do got a side of dumplings. Dumplings were nothing special. Dry hot pot was a little in the salty side and didnt have veggies in it like other resturants. In my opinion a little pricey for what you get.

Don’t recommend this place at all. I would gave zero star if I could. Unprofessional family style business.Terrible service. Forgot our order for over half hour, even people came after us got their order. First time we asked one of the server, and he looked so annoyed by us and said the order would come out soon. After another 15 mins waiting we checked with a different server and apparently they totally forgot our order. One of the waitress offered two complimentary lamb skewers. While we were waiting we saw them gave order to wrong table, and tried to correct if by just transferring already served food from wrong table to the right one. No one ever refilled our empty water pitcher.Nasty atmosphere. Sticky table dirty plates. One of the waiter when he was running foods out he left the tray on an unbussed dirty table. Hand soup in bathroom is diluted with lots of water.We divided the check. One party left $10 tip for the complimentary lamb skewers and the other party left $0 for the terrible experience. The server complained to us with grumpy look and asked us if the service was bad? Bad service? Ordered the spicy chicken pot, which we had in Paris and remembered fondly. Took about 20 minutes, the wait staff said it would take time for the chicken to cook which made sense. They offered a free side dish for the wait time which was nice. But the chicken pot was completely different than what we expected (for 50 dollars): it was watery, with at most 10-15 bite-size pieces. The rest was vegetable. Definitely not worth the value and very disappointing.

Tried it for the first time. Had the three delicacy broth and the the secret spicy sauce. The three delicacy sauce was good. The secret spicy sauce was just a little bit too much on the spicy side. Although I enjoyed it I probably wouldnt order that particular broth again. Good size portions. The lamb and the beef was good. Customer service was great and friendly. Ate outisde on the patio. This is the only halal hot pot I know about in the area, and its amazing. Their broths are super flavorful and they have a lot of meat and veggie options. Totally deserves 5 stars. I visited many Chinese restaurants and there are very few of the places can cook both west (chongqing) and southeast (Jiangsu) dishes well. I came to San Mateo today to eat and drink, and I saw the recommended Huoyan Pavilion. The store environment is clean and full of flavor.Sheep and scorpion hot pot is super delicious! Lots of meat, and dazzling with friends. The lamb shank was big, tender and tasted great! The service in the store is also very good. In short, it is highly recommended!

I have always been a loyal fan of chef sha and have used it three times! Whenever friends come to the Bay Area, they will take them to this restaurant, and this time is no exception. The portions are as big as ever. The grilled grouper with onions and lamb chops are especially delicious! Next time I want to come back and check out the Sheep and Scorpion Hotpot. There are so many dishes that I can’t finish them all at once. Come and order more!

I have eaten at your dine-in restaurant several times since the beginning of 2022. This is the first time I order takeout from your place. After ordering the takeout, I called and asked how long it would take to be ready. Because there was no online display, the person who answered the phone actually had a questioning tone. Ask me Why cant you come and get it yourself? Brother, I really admire you. Let me ask you why you want to cooperate with these food delivery companies. Isnt it just to compete for takeout money? If I can go and get it myself, whats my reason for ordering takeout? Take a step back. Why do you treat customers with such a questioning tone? For the first time, I tried dry pot frog, boiled beef and shredded pork with green pepper. I feel that the boiled beef is not bad. This restaurant is my recent favorite in the peninsula area. I still remember the first time I dined in (probably like 2 months ago) and the food totally exceeds my expectation since we never heard of this restaurant before. I love spicy food but my boyfriend cannot eat spicy food. Chef Sha does have good portion of both (spicy & non-spicy dishes) and they are all savory. Our favorites includeduck soup with duck blood and vermicelli duck blood vermicelli soup! Super delicious!The frog dishes (spicy version and the non spicy version are both really good!) The bullfrog is super delicious. We have tried several of their different bullfrog dishes and they are all delicious!Nanjing salty duck (again, Im not sure about the exact english name of this dish) Nanjing salty duck is delicious but not available every day, so ask in advancethe lamb hotpot is delicious!*If you like spicy food, you should try their cold pot fish!Dessrt:we only tried iced jelly 冰粉 and Douhua 豆花-EnvironmentThe space is pretty big and they have small table (fits 1-4 ppl) and larger table for larger groups. I would say the environment is ok for a Chinese restaurant and I didnt expect too much. The service is also ok but they can get quite busy. With its food and the price, I think overall its still a great restaurant and I would highly recommend it. Recently, I read several notes in a book recommending this restaurant, so I came here because of its reputation, but was disappointed. The two dishes shown in the picture cost more than 90 with tip.[Grilled Fish] As a Sichuanese, I have never seen grilled fish that is all soup. The side dishes are all soaked in the soup and have to be fished out in the soup to eat. . . And I still use a household baking pan to bake the fish... At this price, why not use better tableware? The fish itself was not fresh and we both had stomachaches after eating it.[Frog] A proper American-style Chinese food, wrapped in so much sticky sauce, and it claims to be authentic Sichuan and Chongqing cuisine? ? ? I might as well eat 🐼express. That’s more than 20 yuan for a small portion.

This is a real Chinese food. Authentic Chinese food. Now you don’t have to go all the way from the peninsula to East Bay to eat all kinds of spicy food. I went there twice, and each time I had to order the mutton skewers and dry-pot lamb chops. I also personally recommend the small yellow croaker and soft-shell turtle. I plan to try the sheep and scorpion again in a few days.
