Chef Zhao Kitchen in Palo Alto

Food is yummy and comes out quickly. No wait or reservation needed for my family of 5 to be seated at one of their large tables on a Saturday evening. The staff are attentive and friendly.This interior is a pretty normal casual Chinese restaurant. Not too upscale but spacious enough and still cozy. Seems to get a lot of customers too.

I visited this place many years ago. Back then the menu is quite limited. Now the restaurant has so much variety that we cant decide what to order. We ended up getting cold chicken, spicy fish with napa cabbage, tantan noodle, and special tofu dish. All of them are amazing! The food flavor here, I would describe them as mellow and aromatic. It is not spicy, salty nor greasy. Then the food delivers flavor. Tantan noodle is our favorite dish where the sauce has deep aromatic flavor from peanuts and sesame (I guess) which is very satisfying even though it has no strong flavor. We would love to come back and example other dishes.

Excellent and highly authentic Shanghainese cuisine. Highly highly recommend the pan fried fish. It is so crispy and flavorful and definitely the highlight of the meal. Every dish was very authentic and yummy. The pan fried buns were very juicy, very delicious. They were fried with the top side down in authentic fashion. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Pretty speedy and good service too.

Authentic Shanghainese cuisine. Everything is pretty good but the stir-fried yellow eel dish was definitely a highlight and a delicacy hard to find elsewhere.

Overall, the food was good and service is quick. Very authentic Shanghai food, especially recommend 生煎包 and 响油鳝糊. The wonton was okay.However, they missed a dish when help us take out the rest of unfinished food. Minus one star.

The food is not as authentic as other Shanghai restaurants, and this place is quite pricey.

Delicious! My parents were visiting and they are tough to please with Chinese food. We all loved this restaurant. Every dish was so good that we overate! We ordered: 1/ whole fish with sweet and sour sauce, 2/ Dong Po Pork, 3/ Special fish gluten, 4/ Preserved vegetable rice cake, and 5/ Osmanthus mini rice ball soup. Mmmmm....

Chef Zhaos restaurant is a must-visit for any foodie! The water eel with soy sauce glaze was one of the most delicious dishes Ive ever had - the flavors were perfectly balanced and the eel was cooked to perfection. The deep fried pork ribs were also a hit - they were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The smoked fish was a nice surprise - it had a great smoky flavor that complemented the other dishes perfectly. The service was also top-notch - our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I would give Chef Zhaos restaurant a solid five stars and highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food and great service.

The quality is as good as we remembered five years ago. All dishes were authentic and delicious!

I ordered the Prawn Fried Rice when they opened at 11:00am. I was in & out picking up my order quickly. The portion size was large as expected, multiple servings. Unfortunately, there were pieces of beef & chicken in the rice. Luckily I’m not allergic but this was very disappointing so I won’t be back. I was looking for a nice restaurant for simple Chinese food. The reviews here were pretty good but my search continues.
