Awesome experience at Chelo Taste of Persia!Parking: There is metered parking on Van Nuys but I prefer to park on the street called Friar which is still metered but less heavy with traffic.The storefront is between the Peoples Bail Bonds and FCS Insurance Services with Van Nuys Barber right at the corner. They have daily specials and catering available too!The saffron lemon chicken kabob was tasty and soft, not dry like other places. I actually like how its made to order and not sitting in a warmer some where. I got full rice but should have gotten half rice and half salad because from other pictures the salad looks really good!Hummus plate was okay.Overall, clean ambience and friendly service. Great experience and no negatives.

Chelo Taste of Persia is a Father and Son family-owned business. I was greeted with a big Hello when I walked in. Right away -I knew it was going to be a hit. Yep, it was.The Saffron Lemon chicken was juicy and delicious. The rice was fluffy and the salad complimented the Chicken.It came with soft and tasty pita bread with a spread of Humus, salad dressing and Lentil soap. The quantities are generous and the plate is full.I had a delicious meal at Chelo Taste of Persia. Go for the chicken. I guarantee that you will love it.

I am absolutely addicted and in love with this place, i order constantly and never had a bad experience or service! Always fresh! Such amazing staff I apologize about my friend that picks up the food he’s embarrassing! But I loveeeee the food I can eat it every day!!!! my favorite is the kebab with chicken the lemon chicken and filet mingon!!! oh, and the yogurt!!! Ahhhh and it’s not over priced!!! Obsessed! I just got it and I want it again 😅 thank you! Best kebab place in the valley hands down!

Top tier food. We got the spicy ground chicken kebab, and vegeterian kebab; and both of them met our high expectations. I believe the kebab was the best Ive ever had. The rice was fresh. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. Salad was fresh. Spicy yogurt, and cucumber yogurt were amazing. Pita bread could have been slightly better.We dined inside the restaurant, street parking was easy and cheap to find nearby. They didnt take long to prepare our food.

This is by far the best Persian food that I have had in a long time! The food quality is superb, service is excellent! I frequently dine in, but recently had them cater a family event. They went above and beyond to deliver great food @ reasonable prices.

I’ve paid a lot more for authentic Persian food. You eat on paper plates, but thru don’t skimp in the food: real saffron on the rice, bread baked in house. The cucumber yogurt sauce was A1. Personally I was glad they don’t overdo it on lemon in the humus. The chicken chunks of my kabob were juicy and season to perfection. Get the Persian tea with your meal. This restaurant is part of the Renaissance reviving Van Nuys Blvd near City Hall. They added free a tad of lentil soup that made me want to order a whole bowl.

Delicious, fresh and authentic food. I didnt expect that they can made such a wonderful meals. Quality of the meet and how they prepared it was on the top. We enjoyed everything with great pleasure. I parked my car at the front on th3 Van Nuys street and picked up our food. They told me they have backside parking, need to find it next time. Definitely will come back soon. Highly recommend !! Absolutely delicious! We ordered five different entrees and three appetizers and two deserts! This food is not just great for the price, its great at any price! Their version of lentil soup is surprisingly tangy and the perfect starter. The eggplant Babaghaniush was fresh and not oily at all and made for a great dip for their home made flatbread. The sirloin was lean, juicy, perfectly marinated, and super tender. The chicken kabob was lemony saffrony heavenly! I particularly liked the spicy minced chicken kabob that kept me guessing about the secret ingredient. Home made humus came in 3 flavors which also made great dips. Dont forget the jalapeño and the cucumber yogurt sauces.The Bahlava is light and just sweet enough and the rice pudding smells of rose water and cinnamon!Bravissimo!

So delicious! And the staff was so welcoming and nice. My bf and I ordered a chicken plate each and shared a koobideh plate for some variety. The chicken wasnt dry at all--juicy and delicious, bursting with flavor. Im always a huge fan of koobideh, and this didnt disappoint at all.They have a variety of hummus and dips -- we tried the avocado hummus, regular, and yogurt cucumber. All super fresh and wonderful.The meal is hearty and healthy and they make all their pita bread fresh-baked in-house! Cant wait to come by again.

I ordered online for pick up, ready on time, the place is clean and smells delicious, ordered a combo of ground beef and steak with half rice (absolutely delicious) and half salad (2 black olives -wish they put more 😀- and some 3 pieces of feta cheese) the eggplant dip has kind of a crispy top wow delicious!! My only complaint was the baklava, very dry (maybe thats the persian way) and on the website they make it appear youre getting 4 instead of 2. Other than that ...I will come back

I havent been here for over a year due to the pandemic. I finally returned to visit with my friend. The persian food is very good here. The chicken kabob was so tender. Prices are very reasonable. 5 Star Persian & mediterranean restaurant.

Really yummy and fresh. We ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture. Seriously, the size is huge, enough for two. I got the turmeric lemon chicken sandwich (I think that was the name), with a side of spicy hummus and cucumber yogurt. And it came with a lentil soup, that was flavorful and delicious, and a soda. We cant wait to come back and try the rest of the food. I highly recommend the spicy hummus! I need to get a whole tub next time.Its a nice hole on the wall with exceptional homemade, fresh food at a good price.

If this was located in Westwood, it would cost three times as much. Persian food in the classic manner. Wish I took pictures but by the time it occurred to me to take them, we already had demolished our chicken saffron kebabs and incredible salads. Oh, and they give everyone a satiny smooth and tasty lentil and chick pea soup with their meal. Looking forward to a return trip!Pictures were from a second visit! Amazing food and service, as we entered we were greeted and their recommendations were perfect! We got the hummus and bread (fresh baked), the kebab plates, baklava and signature drinks, definitely loved the whole experience. I will totally recommend it! Me and my wife are visiting LA and had food at this establishment. The staff were super nice and since we didnt know what we wanted they helped us create 2 dishes to try 4 meats. All the meats, the rice, the fresh bread with the hummus, the drinks (my fav was the saffron), and the desserts(especially their Baklava) were amazing. We really enjoyed the food and the hospitality.Would highly recommend! Couldnt have had a better experience!

This was a surprise good find. My friend and i had lunch here and was surprised how nice the food was. I had the Salmon kebob meal with Rice and Salad. It came with cucumber yogurt sauce, some oil for the salad and little portion of lentil soup. It was all delicious my lunch companion enjoyed his too.The staff were friendly and very pleasant to chat too. The decor is basic but clean and confortable.I will return soon and this establishment is highly recommended.

We got a combo meal and the soup looks like a 2 ounce sample but it was really good lentil soup so maybe ask for it a la carte. The pita is made fresh and delicious definitely get an extra side to snack on it was my favorite part of the visit. Frankly those were the highlights. The food was good the service was great but nothing to make it stand out.

Great spot for a quick lunch, customer service was excellent. Food was good. Nice portion, bunch of veggies on the side.The rice was perfect, nice fluffy and individual.... Nicely buttered. I really wanted to finish my plate, but i knew i would be sleepy rest of the day. Now back at work sitting behind my desk im reminiscing about the unfinished rice

My son brought me some food from this Persian restaurant when he was in LA. They make the most delicious Persian food I have ever tasted! The lentils are great, kabob, beef kabob, chicken kabob, the rice is amazing! Great Persian food! I absolutely love it. There is a little tiny bit of Mediterranean fusion to it too that I love. The chef here is a culinary master and that makes a huge difference in Persian food! Its next level. Cant wait to eat at this awesome restaurant again!

I’ve been here twice and had a delicious meal both times. I had a lemon saffron chicken kebab with rice and a salad. The portions are very generous and the food is authentic Persian cuisine. They even make their own yogurt soda. (Yes that’s a thing and it’s very much an acquired taste but I love it.) I also tried the baklava and a chia tea. I highly recommend both!

Ive been looking to try some restaurants in the neighborhood that Ive never been to. Someone told me about Chelo so I gave them a try. The food is incredible! Service was great, the guy that was working was friendly and had my food ready in about ten minutes. Im looking forward to trying more things from their menu.

Amazing Persian and Mediterranean fusion food. I have been here about 5 times now. When I go to LA for work I always find a way to stop into Van Nuys and get some food here. Ive had Persian food and Mediterranean food in many LA restaurants. Even the really fancy ones. None of them can compete with Chelo in freshness, flavor and the value you get for your money. It is absolutely amazing. I hope they expand and open one in my city. I would eat here everyday if I lived in Los Angeles.

I tried this spot for the first time, and I can say that I was very pleased! I got the lamb shish kabob and and the steak as well with a traditional hummus, everything was super delicious! Paired my meal with the Saffron drink with Basil seeds, which was my first time and I was very impressed. If you’re in the area check it out!

The folks here are really nice. They have parking in the back but the door in the back says to come from the front, which is an annoyance! The food is good but not amazing. LA sets a very high bar for Persian Food, given all the available choices. Given that, the food quality here is more like a 3.5 stars.

Chef Saeed and his son have mastered the art of kabobs. The kabobs are always cooked perfectly and have the right balance of flavors. Let’s not forget how incredible and fresh the homemade selections of hummus’s that they make. If you love Persian food like we do I highly recommend going to Chelo because you can taste how much LOVE goes into every dish that they have on their menu.
