Chiko is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is authentic, yet unique. Their combination of Chinese and Korean dishes are phenomenal. Everything Ive tried here is delicious, including the cocktails.

Came here for dim sum on the weekend around 12p and the entire place was open! Sat on the patio and ordered from the QR code on the table. Drinks and food comes out quick and if you over order like me theres always to go boxes. My partner loves their fried chicken, the XO shrimp is mine.

Our first time eating here yesterday for lunch. It was recommended by a friend. It is a quaint restaurant close to the beach. When we entered, one of the staff greeted us and said to pick anywhere we like & to order using the QR code. It is a “no touch” restaurant and we felt that it was more a self serve since we had to get our water and there was no one to talk to about the menu if we had any questions. We were sitting outside and would have to go inside to talk to the staff. When the food was delivered, the server didn’t ask if we needed anything and I had to ask for extra napkins. They weren’t busy and for a while, we were the only one there. We reluctantly gave a 15 percent tip since there was really no real service and unpleasantly surprise that there is a surcharge added when we ordered on the app. On the positive note, the dishes were delicious.

Wow, wow, wow!I’m so happy I have taste buds. This food is incredible. Each dish had balanced textures as well as full bodied flavors.It was fun to sit at the bar and watch them prepare the food.Food came quickly and servers were happy to be there and help.The food is rich. I’ve had a lot of Brussels sprouts in my life but I felt like these were totally new and unlike anything I had ever had. They are soft in the middle and super crunchy on the outside, the aioli is divine, and crunchy onions on top are the perfect highlight.The veggie dumplings came with an Earthy sauce I have never experienced. I had to get a second order it was so good.Super simple space, the joy is in the food.

Enjoyed this casual restaurant. There are QR codes at each table and you simply scan, order and pay on your phone. Service is friendly and efficient. I tried the smashed salmon and broccoli. Enjoyed both- they had nice flavors but a bit too much oil for my liking. My partner had the brisket and Brussels sprouts. He absolutely loved both. Not too many vegan options. Definitely coming back to try their noodle dish. I came here wit a friend and we tried the potato salad, crispy chicken spring rolls and the rice bowl.The portion size for th bowl was really big. I ended up having leftovers of extra rice, though the bowls are super hot so they keep the food very hot.

What a great place for fun Chinese/Korean fusion foods! Great outdoor seating area with picnic tables for larger groups and regular tables. Can order at the front counter or from the QR code at your table. Staff was friendly and service was prompt. Parking is limited but available on the north side of the restaurant in a gravel lot. Loved all the foods and flavors and will be back! Also really enjoyed their house made spicy sauce that you can get on the side.

Chiko stands for Chinese and Korean. All the dishes are fusion of the two. We came with a group of 6 adults and 5 kids between the ages of 3 to 8. We ordered family style to share and even had left overs to take home!Items that were listed under ‘small plates’ were actually decent serving size. They also offer gluten free and vegetarian versions.-Pork fried rice-Chinese broccoli-Korean fried wings (spicy soy glazed)-2 XO garlic shrimp stir fry which is a rice porridge.-Crispy Brussels sprouts-Spicy ribeye and rice cakes-Dak Jjim-2 kids chicken bowlEveryone’s favorite were the shrimp porridge and dak jjim. I liked the vegetables dishes, broccoli and brussels sprouts. Also the spicy ribeye rice cake.Everything was packed with flavor. Too much flavor that it made me so thirsty from the sweet and spicy. The pork fried rice was super sweet with the house made hoisin sauce. Almost like honey or syrupy candy.Everyone has been here multiple times except for us so they knew what to order and said usually it’s not this sweet.Food here is good but not enough for me to repeat. Especially the parking was terrible in a small gravel lot with no lines and 5 parallel spots on the curb on a busy intersection of highway 101. Also very limited indoor and outdoor seating. I was surprised we were able to snag a few tables for our large party. You seat yourself, order and pay through the app.

Visiting from out of town and was heading to my usual stop at the Taco Stand when my colleague pointed out ChiKo and recommended trying it. Chinese-Korean fusion? Why not! It was a quiet evening, my guess is this place does quite a bit of take out food delivery orders. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and didn’t rush us to finish up our meal even as they were closing. Thank you. We shared the Half-a-Cado salad, a bowl of Hot and Sour/Egg Drop/Wonton Soup and the Orange Chicken. The soup was unique…have never seen anything like it. I loved it and wish I could find something similar back home. Orange chicken was also delicious and lacked some heat with the fresno chilis. My only complaint…the Half-a-Cado salad. The flavor was delicious with the cucumber and jicama, but I could find barely any avocado in the entire bowl. Call this thing the Two Avocado Salad and charge more, but it needs more avocado. Will definitely return when I’m in town.

Some of the best Asian fusion food I have had in a while, good service, gluten-free friendly!The brisket with rice cakes was flavorful, it made by taste buds dance. The shrimp porridge was comfort food, equally delicious. The gluten-free fried chicken wings were really good.The star of the night was the desert, we got the sesame custard. So good! The dragon fruit mixed with the sesame and sorbet, and the thick, almost cheese cake like custard, combined to form unique flavors. I hadnt eaten something like this, ever.You have to wait in line to order, get a number and seat yourself, and the food comes to your table. Its noisy inside, and they have outdoor seating too. Definitely worth it, and highly recommend!

What a great place to eat in Encinitas! The food is so interesting and delicious. I recommend the crazy corn and the crispy chicken spring rolls. I have to mention that the chef behind the counter with a beautiful smile was so kind and accommodating,-explaining the food and making sure our order was correct and then packaging up any leftovers for us !

One of our go tos for consistently good asian food. love the plethora of delicious sauces and how well fried the dishes are without being greasy. spicy sauce is spicy.highly recommend the dimsum brunch on fri - sun. it has a majority of the dinner menu items but in smaller portion sizes so you can try more things! but chiko hits the spot regardless of meal time.everyone loved the XO shrimp porridge the most. personal favs include the soy glazed brisket, cumin fried lamb and orange-ish chicken.

Their food is filled with bold flavors. I got the depth of the cabbage and fish in the kimchi, the sweetness of the corn and tomato salad, and the heft of the potato salad. For the banchan just get the sampler. The gai lan was perfectly cooked. The bulgogi tater tots had smoky sweet grilled meat and decent tater tots. The sausage fried rice was the star of the meal. With plenty of wok hei and bold spices, I would rate that as a must have in San Diego. This was my favorite meal on my weekend in San Diego. Next time I want to try the rest of the menu.

We did the Kitchen Counter dining experience, and it was great. They explained the dishes that they were serving us and we were able to watch the kitchen as they worked. Would come again to grab the half-a-cado salad, the wagshals chopped brisket, and the sesame custard.If its your first time here I would recommend also doing the Kitchen Counter as it goes through the high points of their menu. Tried to completely finish everything but there was just so much food.

Not impressed. This place encapsulates everything wrong with American tipping culture, and don’t get me started on the food. Apart from someone plopping your food in a metal tray on your table, everything is self service here- you seat yourself, order and pay first through a QR code on your phone and you have to get out of your seat to dispense and refill your own water. There’s another restaurant that does this- it’s called McDonald’s, and they don’t expect a tip.While I have no problem either serving myself, or with tipping as a reward after good service has been rendered, I find it fatuous and very rich to be presented with a suggested tip starting at 18% when ordering through my phone before any service has been given. Much less when I have to refill my own water cup. Furthermore, as we were eating our meal, I saw a notice that our bill automatically included a 5% gratuity to cover “cost of labor”. So I guess the proprietors aren’t really paying their employee’s wages- you are. Again, not as much a of a problem if someone’s taking your order, providing you with menu suggestions and refilling your water, etc.Now, on to the food. Suffice it to say, this place caters to western tastes- not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that. My wife and I chose this place as is was the only Chinese/Asian restaurant in the area that seem to feature authentic flavors, compared to the usual orange chicken and broccoli beef at typical American-Chinese restaurants.However, the dishes definitely were modified to cater to an American palate; very sweet with liberal amours of oil and salt- basically everything that makes makes Americans fat and unhealthy and which authentic Asian cuisines use more sparingly.I ordered the cumin lamb noodles. Cumin lamb is a classic sichuanese dish, but what I got was completely different. Very little cumin flavor and it was excessively sweet, like a cup of sugar was poured in and then drenched in oil.Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but don’t think we’ll be giving this place another try. I guess still nothing beats driving 40 minutes down to the convoy area….

Pretty amazing and everything I’d want from an Asian fusion place. Ambiance is trendy but comfortable. The staff is super nice and were excited to recommend dishes to try. They said everything on their menu is good and I believe them! We went for their newly opened lunch. (Note: their lunch menu is slightly different from their dinner menu.) Ordered Bulgogi Rice Bowl, Orange-ish Chicken and Sichuan Cucumbers; all top notch 👌🏻. Lunch or dinner, I’ll be coming back for more!

The food was poor overall. The pork in my bowl was burnt and it made the whole dish taste like burnt food. When you serve burnt food it shows a lack of respect for yourself and your customer. The fried chicken sandwich was tasteless. Its a nothing sandwich and was one of the worst that I have had. The tots were okay and the pork appetizer was good. Ordering from the app at the table is fine but the service is not great. Communication is minimal. Basically person brings the dish says what the dish is in a couple of words and thats it. No hi no bye no nothing. No can I suggest anything, do you need anything nothing. Yet a tip is asked for on the app prior to the lousy service. Service is so bad everywhere since the pandemic. Its okay to say hi and bye servers without getting a tip. They charge a 5% staff charge too. The atmosphere is fine but will not be going back. Waste of our money and time.

CHIKO was a great place to have lunch! Each dish we got had its own uniqueness. The fried chicken was fresh and so crunchy. Just what you want from a Korean Fried Chicken. The potstickers are our parties favorite part. The sauce on them was perfect and the kimchi was there but not in your face. Which is the same case with the kimchi slaw that came on the Bo-slammy. Very satisfied with our meal. Everything was cooked to perfection. It was something different from your typical lunch. Decent amount of parking. Seating indoor and outdoor. Fresh water for everyone. Only thing is the lunch menu is different then their menu that was posted online. We went in thinking we could get one thing and ended up having to make some last minute decisions.

We ordered the pickled daikon, cauliflower, orange-ish chicken, and shrimp Lo mein.I loved the cauliflower, but the rest of the food wasn’t that great. I ordered the XO shrimp Lo mein, which tasted very salty, too much sauce, and burnt greens. My friend and I couldn’t eat this. I asked the waiter if he could take it off the tab because it was not good. (I forgot I had paid already with the QR code.) He said he will let his colleague know - looking back, not sure what he meant by that. A few minutes later I remembered I had already paid for this, and I wasn’t sure if I’d get a refund or anything or how that’d work. I had to go soon so I didn’t have time to deal with that. (Update: A week later I saw the refund for the dish in my statement thankfully!)The actual ordering of the food was easy, but it lacks the human contact and personal touch that ordering with a waiter has. Can’t really ask recommendations. I waved at the waiter to get his attention several times, said “excuse me”, but he had his head down and never saw me. We had to go inside to talk to the waiter - they never checked in on us.The cauliflower was super delicious! I loved that. Also loved the pickled Daikon. Glad I ordered that! Very crunchy and delicious.The orange-ish chicken was ok, nothing special.

Vibes, service and food was amazing. Pretty great experience for a first time restaurant in San Diego. We ordered the Orange-ish Chicken, Spicy Bulgogi Stir Fry and Galbi Beef Skewers. The Orangeish Chicken is a big bowl enough to feed three people (one adult and two kids), same as the Spicy Bulgogi Stir Fry! Overall will definitely visit again next trip!

We were told to seat ourselves and that it was open seating. We sat, there was more than one table available when we arrived, but after we had already ordered and been there for a long time we were asked why we were sitting there. We were then made to feel unwelcome and got to watch other diners be welcomed with a friendly smile, greeting, etc. Very disorganized system and not a great way to treat people.

Came here for dinner and everything was amazing! My boyfriend got the XO shrimp with porridge, chicken spring roll, orange shrimp, rib eye and rice cakes. I really like the XO shrimp with porridge, it has so much flavor and a sauce makes perfectly with the porridge. I can eat this everyday for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The orange chicken is served with sauce on the side so if youre someone that doesnt like too much sauce on their orange chicken this is the dish for you. I never thought I would like rice cakes and ribeye but Chiko prove me wrong. The chicken spring rolls were perfectly fried and its not your typical egg roll.Chiko is looking towards the end of Encinitas. There is a few parking spaces in the front and then there is a dirt parking lot to the left of the restaurant. They have indoor and outdoor seating. When we came it was pretty crowded but we were able to get a table pretty quick. It is a counter style service order restaurant. The staff is all pretty friendly and are attentive to what you need. You order through a QR code that set to your table, I really like this because you dont have to rush to order and you can order as you go.

Nice venue with indoor/outdoor options. I sat outside in a shady part of the patio. Ordering is easy off the menu using your phone and they bring your order right to the table. I tried a variety of smaller dishes and each was a perfect fusion of flavors and optional sauces I found very pleasing. This was my first visit and I’m encouraged to visit again to try out more of the menu.

Chiko is simply delicious. Went here with my 9 year old daughter, she was raving about how great every dish was and she wanted me write a review, so here it is. I was equally impressed. We had pork & kimchi potstickers (5 stars, sauce is so good), crispy shrimp (4 stars, sauce that comes with it elevates it), pork belly bao buns (5 stars, a must order), pork fried rice (4 stars, loaded with flavor), crispy chicken spring rolls (4 stars, love the mustard horseradish sauce that comes with it) and the strawberries & cream for desert (4 stars, sweet and salty custard dish). Overall, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything you order here.

Been here 2 times now and the food was equally as good both times. Have tried everything on the menu and honestly the food is fantastic! 10/10 experience. On top of the food being amazing, the chef really knows what hes talking about. I felt like I was in a real life episode of the Netflix Original: Chefs Table. Will definitely be back ASAP. Not bad. Had the wings, cumin lamb, and potstickers plus 2 beers for $57. The wings were soggy and had a thick sauce on them, good flavor though. After living in Chicago Im kinda spoiled when it comes to Korean wings and I was hoping this place would scratch that itch. Oh well. The potstickers were pretty good and the lamb was also very tasty. The prices are a bit steep and the patio is surrounded by a dirt parking lot which Im sure becomes a problem when a car leaves a dust cloud and the wind is blowing your way.

I mean its interesting seeing cooks play with the concept of food. A large portion of the experience feels like a whole foods self checkout. Sometimes when you play with your food its kind of an unproductive mess. Went for the Irish stew and dumplings for St Pattys day. The Guinness stew was a really nice red wine beef stew and the herb drop dumplings were well flavored Irish soda bred. But it would have been better if like I dont know Guinness stew had Guinness flavor and you just called it soda bread instead of shoe horning it into dumplings zeitgeist because thats your gimmick of the week.The communication is where this restaurant fails. Like you want me to be so much of the waitstaff experience and then ask me to tip up front. Its cute that you use your phone to directly order you meal and make splitting checks trivial except when you have to pass around a phone because one person is paying and some one accidentally removes your meal because like they have never used this page before. The glass noodles were classic Korean with heavy tones of sesame oil (which would be nice if it was in the description). The ghost pepper oil was a nice take on a classic Chinese chili oil. I am curious about how they do many other twists in classic dishes but the be your own waiter without any training and not do it yourself pricing is a hard pass for me. Warning to anyone with food allergies you are going to have to talk to someone at the cook station because the online menu is next to worthless for exposing potential issues.

Small, unassuming space that could be easy to miss. Sadly, it was raining on the day that we went, so we could not enjoy the patio space. The food here is unique, creatively full of flavor, affordable, and amply portioned.The cocktails were tasty. The wok seared broccoli was spicy and tasty. The wok charred wheat flour noodles were excellent and also spicy. The only semi-disappointing dish was the Orange-ish chicken. The pictures on the online ordering system look more like pan seared chunks of chicken (not clearly showing that it is breaded and fried) and the description did not mention it, so I had assumed that the Orange-ish might mean that it was not breaded as is typical with Orange Chicken. It was really heavily breaded, to the point that I probably removed half of the breading per piece of chicken. The sauce was great, I just would not have ordered that dish if it was clear that it was going to be fried chicken. The portions are large so sharing these three dishes, we definitely ended up taking home a significant amount of the Wheat flour noodles, which made for a great leftover meal.

We grabbed a table towards the rear of the restaurant but in full view of the open kitchen. An ice cold can of hazy IPA and a chilled glass arrived on our table within 60 seconds courtesy of Martini...server & food runner extraordinaire. My ice cold hazy IPA tasted very good. Current favorite restaurant in San Diego, I never get tired of eating here. Not too expensive, excellent quality, super consistent, all around amazing. You have to try the lamb stir fry noodles and the Brussel sprouts. Other favorites include the pork fried rice (but would love if they brought back the cod fried rice!) and the pot stickers. The smashed salmon and the new(ish) garlic shrimp and impossible dumplings are good too. The orange chicken seems to be really popular but I didnt think their take on it was too interesting, same with the chicken wings. Was really looking forward to seeing this place but it just did not meet expectations. The menu looks amazing but we tried many dishes and they pretty much all failed to wow. Very, very salty. I dont mind a lot of salt but it was overboard. Rib eye cakes were so salted that we could not attempt to finish. Chinese broccoli was ok but again very heavy on the salt and stalky. The house fried rice was a huge portion but just not that good... Never thought Id ever say that about fried rice...and wish they would have let us know the level of spicy as our daughter thought it was too spicy. The Orangeish chicken, oddly enough, was devoid of salt and a relief from the rest. The sauce was on the side and the chicken was cooked perfectly. All in all, I hope whomever was cooking last night is not the regular chef, as I think the food was not prepared properly. And its not cheap, but not overly expensive...but at a price that we definitely expected better! When your guests think to themselves that theyd had been better off with standard Chinese fare after eating at your establishment, time to check the kitchen. I had the orange-ish chicken, and it was good, but I actually prefer white meat and more breading (I know, my bad). My husband had the smashed salmon, which we both thought was delicious (and Im not a huge fish fan). They have a nice selection of beer and wine.
