Decided to try a new Chinese restaurant the other day. I couldnt find a recent menu so decided to drop by around 7:30 for Take out.Sign on the door says Take out only after 3pm. no problem there. Inside is a handful of customers seated by the door. Decor is typical, clean, simple & nice.No one was at the counter to greet so prob running a skeleton crew out of necessity. Took about 5min for someone to appear to take my order, she was pleasant.We ordered two combo plates. One was Beef & broccoli, the other was Sweet & Sour Pork. Botj came with Chow Mein & Fried Rice. as well as a order of honey walnut prawns. Was told wait was 30min.Actual wait time was about 20, our portions were sizable. Chow Mein took the large portion of the 3 part container. Rice & the main dish were equal in size & box was packed to the brim.All of the food had a fresh taste & texture. Not like it had been in steamer trays or reheated. the rice, Mein were soft & not chewy. Pork was crunchy but not dry. Broccoli was a vibrant dark green & crisp. Prawns were also crispy, moist & not chewy.All of the food was much better then we had anticipated and a comparable price to another near by restaurant we have frequented.The only problem I can find is that dine in service ends at 3pm and they seemed under staffed. Hopefully just a sign of the times & is temporary because I can see this place doing very well with dine in.Will have to try again, phone ahead next time as we now have the menu. if the quality holds, I see this as our new Fav 😁

You had better be really...really... really hungry!A serving of ANYTHING can feed 2 or 3 people.Salt Pepper Fish? 16 giant 3inx2in. golden nuggets.Shrimp egg foo young heavier than a new born baby (no exaggeration). Flavor is outstanding to boot!!!I thought it was a practical joke at 1st...its that much food.It is so much food; when I opened the boxes...I actually laughed out loud and whispered What...the....flux?!!!

The food here is pretty average. Nothing special. The service was VERY SLOW. Every table was dirty when we walked in at 1pm so we had to wait for her to clear one off for us. There was only a family at 2 other tables besides us but it took her 15 min to stop at our table. She ignored us the whole time. I know she was doing to go orders and the other tables but a simple… I’ll be right over, goes a long way. Not worth returning for us

Seated meals available from 11-3 then take out only. They are always busy so you may have to wait a bit longer than expected. Best soups in town. Love the kung-pao dishes. My favorite Chinese food in Modesto.

I will never eat here again. I called first to place an order and I was placed on hold for ten minutes! I hung up and called again and no answer at all. I was close by so I went to the restaurant. Only one waitress working who took my order. I mentioned how I called and she said she was sorry because it’s just her.Another person was waiting and cut in and asked how much longer before her food was ready. Then a man also asked about his order.I was told it would be 45 minutes and it took longer than that. I finally get my food and good thing I was in my mom’s car because I placed the food on the passenger side where there was a towel covering the seat.I get to my destination and the bottom of the bag is wet! WTH! Grease or oil had poured out from the containers. I tried some of the food and it’s very greasy and so much that it has left a greasy taste in my mouth. I will not be returning to this restaurant.I ordered Sweet and Sour Prawns and these prawns are old and turning because they have black stuff in them!!!Look at the pics below and see for yourself.Poor service and poor food quality.

Made a callin order for pick up.I get there and my food isnt ready I had to wait 15 minutes in lobby. I ordered the orange chicken combo and the food was bad. The chow mein has a sink water taste. Orange chicken was chewy. Rice was okay.

Where do I start. So my family took my dad here for his birthday because he wanted to go to a Mom and pape Chinese food restaurant. We try this place out. There wasn’t much people people there so we thought the service would be ok, we was wrong. The lady too 20 min to get to us. Never offered us drinks, went straight to ordering. We was ready so it didn’t bother us. After getting one persons order, stop us then leaves to do something else, comes back and proceeds to take our order. She seem snappy, no problem, maybe that’s how she talks. She wanted to charge us $4 per person to make fried rice without onions, and didn’t want to give my sister a water cup because she didn’t order, her and her husband was sharing a plate. The lady was very rude talking about “We need to understand her,” but her customer service was terrible from the start. This place is a joke. We paid for our drinks and canceled our order. I hope we can help someone for making the the same mistake we did, trying to support this local businesses. We ended up going to round tables down the street. Way better service.

This is typically my go to Chinese restaurant. But today not only was my order wrong, all of the food taste burnt. With inflation and the increases on food and gas mistakes are too costly to make. I have to settle for burnt food because I live too far to drive back.Definitely not happy

Staff charged my bank account for more then they were supposed to and refused to issue a refund. Carol madrigal is the manager she has poor customer service I contacted my bank they tried to charge my card $30 over the purchase amount and since it declined they only got me for 7.80 watch out folk been going to this place for year was very happy till now if you go here pay cash they may try and get you for more then they should . My bank took care of me since they wouldnt I was shocked all this mess for 7.80....

This was my second time here the first time was not so great. We had under cooked chicken wings.(bloody) there was hair in the fried rice and our won tons were cold. Our second time here was a terrible expierence the wait was super long once again I ordered the won ton chips they were cold again. Asked for them to be made fresh and was told they do not make them fresh to order. My drink were brought out 15 minutes later. Our meals were served in segments meaning we did not get our food all at the same time. And we were never checked on once to see if we needed anything. They were fully staffed and they could not get it together. We will never be coming here again.

Unquestionably the best Chinese food east of the Altamont. Service was a little slow but there were only a couple wait staff for the whole dining room. You never know if someone called in sick or if theyre just keeping overhead down. I will never fault a small restaurant for slow service. Especially if the quality of the food more than makes up for the wait. It does here. And so does the quantity. Generous portions. The last surprise is the bill. Very inexpensive. Ive tried numerous Chinese restaurants, looking for one to call my favorite. This is it. Highly recommended.

This place is gross. The shrimp we had was over fried and greasy. The beef on a stick is so dry and seriously looks unsafe to eat. The sweet and sour pork is tough and super crispy. Even the damn tea is horrible ..... Still WAITING for our noodles and rice while the rest of the food is already cold.......the fried rice is great. The chow mein is soso after you put some soy sauce so its not super dry. The service is atrocious. Definitely do not recommend

The food is pretty good. I dont like the fried rice at all but my husband does. Last time we went in the chow mein was overcooked and my order was not made correctly. The real letdown was being told my order would be ready in 30 minutes and then having to wait an additional 30 minutes on top of it.

This is the best Ive tasted with reasonable prices. We often dine in, but this time we ordered take out. Honey walnut shrimp. [Huge peices] beef n broccoli combination plate, spare ribs combination plate, sweet n sour pork combination plate, family of six share in this wonderful tasting food. Always leftovers. Under$50. So I am having a problem with the female who takes the phone orders and greets when we come into pick up these orders. I put in a phone order at approximately 5:25 pm and was told 20 to 25 minutes be ready I was driving from Ceres to Modesto to pick up the order. I waited 15 minutes before leaving when I arrived to pick my order at approximately 6:10 pm the restaurant was extremely hot inside and was not greeted by anyone for about 20 minutes. Then when I was greeted we asked if we were to add an item to our order how long would that take. She said 20 minutes we said okay we want to add an item. So I looked at my clock it was 6:55pm we went outside we came back in at 7:20pm and again nobody around for about 15 minutes. I noticed my order on the counter that we made by phone. When she came out someone called she took their phone order then somebody walked in and she took their order then she says here is your order. I asked where the add on items was she says oh did you want them I didnt order them. I said what why did we wait all this time she just looked at me dumbfoundly and said,Oh I am sorry. Ok so are we talking about the same place on Coffee Road I just got take out from? The place that invented the term greasy spoon? Maybe I missed something, but my order took 55 minutes not 25 as promised. My name was not taken so they didnt know who I was when I arrived. As I sat there waiting for my food, a lady was complaining about being short changed. It was like a comedy or errors happening right in front of me. And now hours after I ate my system is well...not happy. The Egg Foo Young was pretty good but the sweet and sour pork had no sauce on it. They failed to give my wife rice with her order, and the eggs rolls looked like they had been re dipped in batter a 2nd time and were unbelievably greasy! 55 of you ate here and liked it? And if the cleanliness of the kitchen is anything like the phone and fax machine at the front desk....yuck! Tables with dirty dishes on them the whole time I was there, not very professional.There are too many good Chinese restaurants in Modesto so I dont have to waste my time twice at this one.

Very unprofessional, fired my favorite waitress in front of my family while she is the best worker there! She tried fighting for her job saying she has two kids and just got a appartment while they said they didnt care as she was in tears not understanding what she did! They just wanted her gone. I will not come back and good luck finding a waitress like the one they fired without two week notice! I heard everything she had to say and she was just trying to help the new waitress that is not doing her job! Very disappointed as this was a place my family and I would go to regularly. You guys fired someone who made the restaurant a good experience. I will NOT return!

Came here with my three children after church to try something different then the norm. Ordered the basics, fried rice, chow main, beef broccoli, orange chicken, egg rolls & fried shrimps. It took a while to get the order out to us (kids where getting restless). But when the dishes came out, they where plentiful & fresh! Kids surprisingly liked the fried shrimp & gobbled up the egg rolls. Kids also loved the egg soup that came included (dine-in only). My older son & I loved all the food that we ordered. There was plenty of leftovers to take home & We ate it all up the following day. The price was ok, I spent about $50.00 in all. Good price for the amount of food that we recived. The only bad points would be service was slow & not very kid friendly, kids keeped wanting to get out of there seat to look at fishtank. I would recommend this place to family & friends.

I used to love China Garden but every single time I place an order over the phone they do not start making it until I get there. They tell me it will be ready in 45 mins then I get there and they say it will be extra 20 mins. Literally every single time... It doesnt matter what day of the week or time of the day. They never have it ready... Ever. This has been happening for years, way before COVID. About every other time I place an order they forget one of my items. Partially my fault for not checking the bag but after having to wait an additional 20 mins on top of the 45 mins they usually tell me Im hungry and ready to leave. Ive been coming here for about 8 years. Unfortunately I will not be coming back. There are too many other options to put up with poor service.Also half of the employees are not wearing face masks... The front counter and in the back while preparing and handling food.

I called in an order and it wasnt ready for an hour. They charged more than their menu stated, which was higher than their prices online. The food was almost cold, bland, and really greasy compared to other Chinese food restaurants. This is not the first time that I have tried them but this is what I have come to believe is their norm. First time here. I give it a 3 & a half star. The order was pleasant and simple, yet tasty on some dishes that we had. Not all were quality. Like the broccoli beef or vegetable dish of bok choy. You might think how could you not do bok choy correct. Well, the sauce was heavy on the creamy flour to thicken up. Same with the broc and beef. not to our liking. That being said, the house chow mein was good and the spare ribs nice. The prices were affordable. However, there are other restaurants that are much better quality but you pay for it.This was rated as a $. Per yelp.

Great for takeout. Food is large portions so be prepared to have a large appetite! Sometimes I do feel they are understaffed though but food always comes out quick. This is unrelated but the parking is usually always packed so bring a small car.

SEVERE FOOD POISONING, lost work, 3 days in hospital for my husband and I. Owner took no responsibility, didn’t seem to care. Short staffed that night, waited almost an hour for our bill so we could pay, only to go home and experience this misery! Sorry to have chosen China Garden.

Well I went here because i found out that this restarant was run by the same family as lees chinese kitchen . Needless to say that i wish the family was there, instead of the two servers who were running around today . We had terrible customer service (on the server side) 1- my brother didnt get his soda until we got our entrees 2- we didnt get our appetizer until halfway done with our entrees 3- we didnt get any refills of our drinks 4- we didnt get any napkins when we asked for some, due to the drinks being too full and spilling over 5- we got our entrees at least 5 min apart 6- our waitress didnt check on us on all, didnt give us our check, and didnt give us to go trays or fortune cookies 7- the prices were at least $1-$1.50 more expensive and the eggrolls were smaller and not as good as lees, i only gave 3 stars due to the food being delicious and the chefs doing a good job, other than that they need better servers, my family will just wait until lees reopens because that place was definitely better

Apparently they premake the food and put it in a steamer, so if you ask for no veggies in your chow mein or fried rice its a 1.50$ per change so its a cost of 3$ extra to get fresh food made for you. AND if you order off the lunch menu and ask for no veggies in your stuff its considered a substitution and youre charged full menu price. This place is shady.
