Waitress appeared to be alarmed by a 1 year old babbling baby. Her reaction of disgust was definitely off-putting but we decided not to make a huge stink of it. XLB soup dumplings were dry without soup and served on a plate of cabbage instead of a wooden steamer like Im used to. Missed the mark with fishy tasting har gao with thick gummy texture and sub par sui mai. Ordered Mongolian combination but was given Mongolian beef. Waitress was upset to have to take it back and provide us with the correct dish. We were a party of 8 and a baby. We also ordered Hong kong-style chow mein, half a roasted duck, orange chicken, happy family, asparagus salmon, and white rice. All of which was ok/good but will likely not return.

This is our new favorite Chinese place! Im so glad my friend recommended it. We love the hot and sour soup and the pot stickers. We could literally just eat those and wed be fine lol. But their meat plates are also really good. Totally recommend! The service is also great, everyone is so sweet and nice.

Came here with my husband to get a good wonton soup and we were not disappointed! Had a couple of entrees and appetizers as well and everything was absolutely stunning. Everything tasted SO fresh and as it turns out, they make their wonton soup by hand, fresh by order! The service was outstanding, my glass was never empty and everyone was super friendly. Ive driven by this place a million times and never tried it until today- Ive been missing out.If youre looking for fresh food and great service, this little hidden gem is for you! We will definitely be back!

Everyone and everything ages, but we seem to only admire a few things and people for their aging ability. Like wine, whiskey, and Paul Rudd. We don’t admire finely aged chow mein or fried rice enough, so that’s exactly what I’m gonna do.My sister and I got food from here on a Friday night. The next day there were leftovers. I told her I was going to eat the leftovers for breakfast because I was planning on not being at the apartment for the next few days. She said that was gross and I should just eat it when I get back. I ended up listening to her and had it for lunch the following Monday. While it didn’t improve with age, it didn’t get worse. I hope I’m able to age just as well as this food and Paul Rudd. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the food on Friday and Monday.

This is the only place I have found in the Pleasant Hill area that has good Chinese food. I highly recommend the general tsous chicken. The owner Judy is an amazing woman and a great hostess. She serves many of the tables herself. Her jokes never fail to make me laugh.

I always recommend this place if you ever around the East Bay. My experience at this restaurant has always been great and the food is always been fresh and delicious. Let’s not mention the owner always treats us like family, so if you’re looking for a local restaurant that cares for its community and customers this is the place to come in. The workers are very friendly, and the restaurant is clean. The food came out pretty quickly, since I went when it wasnt crowded, and it all tasted great! The price is a little on the expensive side with everything being around $2 more than what Im used to. However it is covid-19 times so I cant blame them if they had to raise prices to survive.I would rate the food 8/10 for taste/quality. The orange chicken had more of a donut style breading, which was really good and very soft. The mongolian beef had some pieces that might have been overly tenderized but overall delicious.I had to drop a star because the steamed rice cost $1.75 extra. That would have been fine if they brought out a big amount, but they gave me the size in the picture below. Honestly, thats unacceptable for me. That amount of rice should be 25 cents. I would recommend getting take out and cooking the rice at home.

Fresh, fresh fresh. This is family owned and they make their own sauces and soups and shop for fresh food. Wide variety on menu. Friendly service. Clean restrooms. Great food.Parking is free although the lot is a bit tight, but its worth it. They are in the same shopping center as CVS and Starbucks, so always cars moving in and out.

Went with a co-worker for lunch and it was fantastic. My coworker eats here enough they know her by name so we were treated like family! I ordered a lunch special and it was enough for two meals (for me). Food was brought fast but we never felt rushed. Highly recommend this gem!

This place has, hands down, the best Western-style Chinese food Ive ever had. It is *phenomenal.* Check my review history. I do not give praise like this lightly. I am a picky snob, but when its earned, I do not hold back.The vibe is a bit more like a banquet hall than a restaurant, but its *clean* and the staff (meaning the family that runs it) are super friendly and the service is darn quick.My partner had sweet and sour chicken, which I dont care for no matter who makes it, but the chicken was crispy and the sauce was marvelously balanced in its flavors. I had the Mongolian beef, which is absolutely to *die* for. The aroma of stir fried onions leaps off the plate and the beef is tender but has a crispiness to it that Ive never seen from any other restaurant. The fried rice has that distinct, smoky wok hei, that you just dont get in most places, and the scallion cakes were moist and satisfyingly crunchy/chewy. Good scallion cakes are REALLY hard to find, but you can get them here.The wine is eh at best, but why are you drinking wine in a Chinese restaurant? Get a Tsingtao like a normal person. Its a great pilsner and pairs with the food much better than any wine ever could.This place is unassuming and easy to overlook, but totally worth it.

Great overall experienceTL;DRPremise: We want a place between Sacramento and San Jose along I680 for lunch. We want Chinese food but not necessarily serving regional specialties for a good ($$) value. A familiar brand/chain (e.g. Panda, PFC) of known quality and value was not necessary.Given the aforementioned parameters, China Palace (CP) in Walnut Creek is the most highly rated Chinese restaurant based on its location (adjacent to I680) and online reviews (with at least a few hundred reviews to eschew initial soft-opening bias).Food: We start with a couple dim sum items. Note that this place is not a “dim sum” restaurant and has a very limited selection. However, we are interested in standard fare: char siu bao (pork buns) and har gow.(shrimp dumplings). Surprisingly, as we order the buns, the server asks whether we want steamed or baked. Steamed but they offer both! The appetizers come out quickly and are hot, delicate and tasty as if they are just shuttled off a dim sum cart. As with most dim sum, these are more than likely prepared earlier (perhaps offsite and/or even frozen) but CP is able to sustain their delectability.Following our family tradition (of fostering fairness ;-), each diner chooses a favorite dish: spicy eggplant, chow mein (Hong Kong style), mapo tofu, dry fried string beans, mongolian beef and sweet and sour pork, a mish mash of Cantonese, Szechuan, Mongolian (but probably originated in Taiwan) dishes and all somewhat Americanized for the domestic(ated) palate. The server is thoughtfully explicit with respect to the desired heat for the spicy dishes.Just like the appetizers, the entrees are paraded out promptly. All the items taste fresh, uniquely flavorful and not drowning in thick generic sauce. The vegetable ingredients are cooked to the proper tenderness and not mushy. The fried noodles are hot and crispy but not oily. The mapo tofu, albeit milder than usual, does have a hint of obligatory szechuan peppercorn. Finally, the pork is batter fried yet not oily and does not bloat the generous protein inside.Decor: The space is very typical for a restaurant residing in a strip mall. Clean and not overly ornate. They have tables for two up to banquet tables topped with lazy Susans (rotating dumbwaiters). The entire facility (including WCs) was navigable by the two disabled patrons in our party.Service: Although reviewers complained about the service, we found the sole server to be responsive even when the restaurant is fully seated and take-out orders are flying out the door. Our water glasses are consistently filled. Perhaps, our group is more forgiving because we realize the staff is bilingual or that we have all worked in food services in the past.Bottom line: We have sampled many of the Chinese restaurants in the bay area over the last four decades. This place is as delightful as any we have been including some of our local mainstays in the south bay and even SF. If we lived closer we would be frequenting CP more often.

This place is my #1 go-to spot for delicious Chinese food. Some of my favorite dishes include the eggplant in spicy sauce, tan tan noodles, and salt & pepper pork. Im still making my way through the menu and occasionally trying something new, but I havent been disappointed yet. Im told that all the sauces are prepared fresh for each order and not mass produced or use 3rd party sauces... no wonder everything tastes so fresh and is piping hot when served. You can also ask for spicier dishes (or less spicy, I guess) and they do great without going nuclear. I definitely recommend treating yourself to this very yummy Chinese food. 😋

Please do not waste your money on this nasty place. First of all the service is awful, the young lady was extremely rude making you feel uncomfortable just for asking her simple questions whenever we were about to order. She made me want to leave but I didn’t want to be disrespectful. My partner ordered the seafood soup and it was the worst soup ever, extremely creamy, it had a slimy texture and no seafood at all. I ordered the Mandarin triple crown and the meat had nothing to do with meat, it was a chewy slime. We were really disappointed and obviously we were not going to tip. When we left the Chinese guy came after us asking us to sign and fill out the blank space of the tip. Is he joking? we thought he came after us to ask us why we didn’t ate nothing. Please avoid having a bad time, don’t bother yourself to come to this place.

Talk about a hidden gem -- this place has amazing food, fair prices, big portions, and excellent service. Traditional fare plus dim sum (always a plus.) Visited last night with a large party & sampled a variety of dishes -- fried rice, vegetable noodles, Gen Tsos, family-style tofu, orange chicken, & Mongolian beef. Everything was fresh, delicious, and we left with enough food for everyone to enjoy leftovers.Fried Rice is to die for, they use the big shrimp! Vegetarian options are solid & they do tofu the good way (hard to describe but if you eat tofu, you know what this means.) Generous with broccoli (a selling point for me, maybe you too) & nothing on the menu tastes overly oily, sweet, or salty, as can happen with Chinese food sometimes. Everything we ordered was fresh, light, vibrant, and really showcased how much attention goes into their food.I recently moved from the Bay & was so happy to see that this spot is still thriving -- the folks that work there are kind & funny & I was happy to come back for a great meal. I was craving chow mein and orange chicken yesterday and decided to order from China Palace for the first time. Best decision ever! The food was super delicious. I ordered a vegetable chow mein and I enjoyed the variety of delicious vegetables-I enjoyed them so much that Ill be ordering extra next time! The orange chicken is a 10/10! I loved that oranges were added to it for flavor and presentation. The spice level and orange flavor was a perfect mix. Both dishes were cooked with fresh ingredients, big portions, and overall tasted amazing.The staff was super friendly. They were all wearing masks and had signs outside the door outlining the precautions theyre taking/what customers need to do as well.I will definitely be coming back to try more of their other dishes!

My parents and I love Chinese food, especially when we are traveling out of town, and we happened upon this place because it was the only Chinese restaurant open at 3:30pm on Saturday nearby. My family and I went there for our Christmas dinner as we just finished watching a Christmas story and we were not expecting that particular movie scene but just a relaxing dinner. There are not enough words to express the stress level on the staff and the patrons that were waiting 2 hours + for their To-go orders. We fortunately were seated for dine-in within 10 minutes. The Owner got into a verbal and nearly physical altercation with a patron that just got out of the hospital. It was the most uncomfortable situation with all of the yelling and threats from the owner to the guest. I will never return. The entire place witnessed this situation. It was the worst.

Solid enough chinese restaurant. The hot and sour soup had nice flavor, but I dont remember it having the pork match sticks I am used to. The Schician beef was a nice version, served in a small ring of broccoli either uncoated or a really thin coating and a slightly sweet slightly spicy sauce (I prefer not sweet and spicier). The fried shrimp was served prawn style with what appeared to be a thin panko coating (not the way I really like, but it was not bad).

The food is excellent but the service is horrible. I just left after ordering their combination fried rice and there’s a gentleman in there that was basically yelling at me because I was questioning the price of the order. They would be an excellent Chinese food option but I don’t like getting yelled at after ordering food. I don’t know if I’ll be back. They seem to change their prices every time I come in. The argument is taxes every time I bring up the price variation. They need to have one price and stick to it and frankly the gentleman that was yelling at me needs to not work there.

From the Food to the Service, I rate this a 12 out of 10. The food is excellent, the prices especially the lunch specials are a great deal and the quantity is always way to much to eat. Taking home left overs is typical. I am constantly sending folks over to China Palace on North Main Street, even parking is easy, large parking area and close to everything. In that 20 min, I saw a couple stand at the door for 5-7 min and then walk out because no one came out to seat them.
