The staff here is very friendly and attentive! The avocado salsa was delicious! I had the pastor taco salad and everything was fresh and served perfectly even with my requests for modifications dietary restrictions! The only thing I would like to see here is a good carnitas! Otherwise great restaurant! Highly recommend!

Really great vegetarian menu! You can tell they put care and thought into making the vegetarian meals just as flavorful and balanced as the meat meals.They also have a big selection of fresh juices and ice cream! Everything felt like a more fresh version of regular Mexican food favorites.Great back patio for dining too

This place has an entire section of the menu for vegetarian options. Their rice and beans are vegetarian as well so they don’t use lard/chicken broth. The food was great; we got the rice & beans burrito and the potato tacos (which look like taquitos) and the chips & guac + salsa. The only downside is you have to pay for chips here. $5.50 for chips and salsa and $11 for chips & guac + salsa. Overall great for vegetarians!

Skip the lines of nearby eatieries and try out this hidden in plain sight authentic gem. Fresh ingredients, amazing salsas, and the best mole enchiladas Ive ever had! Get it with the fresco cheese, not chedder.Also, great atmosphere and nice backyard patio!

Good food, kind people working, and beautiful shop. Walking home from work, I stopped in to ordered a dinner to go and sat on the back patio to wait for it. There is beautiful artwork and plenty of room.The food was delicious and made me excited for more.

Excellent food! The side portions were on the small side, but with the chips and avacado salsa I ordered there was more than enough. The agua fresca was very refreshing. I appreciate the order and pay online option.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful lunch on the enclosed back patio! The streets were really crowded with people and many restaurants were full with lines out of the door. We thankfully came across this gem as we were walking around. The food was really delicious... you could tell the cook knew what s/he was doing! Everything looked beautiful. I had a plain bean and cheese burrito... the flavor was really mild. My boyfriend had chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. He is particular about his mole...he liked it and there was a LOT of it! The chips and guacamole were fantastic. The server and busperson were hustling all day, but with smiles. They were super polite and kind. We are happy we discovered this hidden place, and hope you enjoy it too! 😊

The food was great here and the outdoor seating area is huge and pleasant. You can order via QR code or at the counter. The food is authentic and you can tell they love to make their food. My only complaint is the price. Its outrageous. Their two taco combo is like $16 when I can go 5 min down the street to Taqueria San Miguel and pay $8.99 for the same thing and the food is way better in my opinion. Chileno is NOT CHEAP. Its a good restaurant but there are way better for the price.

This place is hands down the best Mexican restaurant in SLO! Nancy the cashier is adorable and friendly, the decor is super cute. The Cochinita Pibil burrito in achiote sauce with a side of their pineapple salsa was so flavorful that I’m still licking my fingers. I can’t wait to try their homemade mole with their delicious homemade corn tortillas. The Best Mexican restaurant in SLO!!!

I think this is the best Mexican restaurant anywhere in the SLO city limits. While there are many, many Mexican restaurants in town, anyone who has been to South LA / San Diego / Mexico and has actually tasted the real home-cooked stuff knows for whatever reason SLO has never quite gotten there. Thats changed with Chinelo. I had the Chicken Molé Burrito and it was excellent. I cannot wait to come back and try more dishes. Vegans / Vegetarians will also rejoice at the large selection of options just for them! I was one of the few sit-down meals. The service and presentation was also really really good. Please dont let a good thing slide by, this place deserves our business and after living here for 12 years, its the ONLY place in SLO Id send people for Mexican food. So happy to have them here!

The food here is amazing. It tastes very authentic. The pineapple habanero salsa is so good! You order at the counter and take a seat. Prices are in line with the rest of SLO. The back patio area is a treat and feels like youre in another town. Service was quick. There is also a feature where you can order from your table and pay; very fast and easy. Well be back again and again.

I never leave reviews but I had to give this place a shout out. Hands down the best Mexican food on the central coast. This is my go-to spot for the most amazing home-made tamales. Always a friendly atmosphere and extremely flavorful food. If youre looking for good eats, amazing service, and good vibes, this is your spot.

Neat place. My family really liked it, was a little spicy for my Polish tongue. Good portions and fair price, my mother was happy we did spend $$$ for “quaint Mexican”. Amazing food and desserts! we had the house made horchata which was delicious, lemon cheesecake, mole enchiladas, and a chicken burrito which was huge! plenty of food for delicious leftovers and the woman who served us made it all the better, she was so nice and accommodating. You gotta get the mole. There is no where else in town with mole like this. Chinelo does it different, they do it right. This is the large burrito wet with mole and spicy chicken and it is a true behemoth well worth the price. Their pico de gallo is outstanding. The shredded chicken in their enchilada was a little plain but all the dressings were incredible - even their rice and beans were great.

Easily my favorite restaurant in this area. We’ve tried a good variety of the menu and have loved all of it. Our favorites are the Chinelo plate (Azteca), adobo burritos, chilaquiles, and tacos dorado. The back patio is a great place to sit and unwind. Don’t leave without dessert. Plan ahead and have the dessert. One of each. If you have to choose, that’s sad and I’m sorry for you, but IF you have to choose, get the flan.

First thing first...They have delicious homemade corn tortillas!! Makes all the difference when enjoying authentic Mexican food! The minute you walk in, staff is very friendly and welcoming. We decided to try the Chilaquiles and one of their combos that came with their homemade tortillas. They have such tasty meat choices that arent normally on a Mexican menu. My husband chose Cochinita Pibil as his meat choice and it was soooo flavorful! The salsa on my chilaquiles tasted as if I was in Mexico! Although, very generous portions, we still ate everything! That GOOD! I recommend sitting on their patio, which is very nicely put together with beautiful vivid colors. We had a pleasant visit here, and enjoyed our meals . Thank you for the wonderful experience, we will be back!

After 5 hours of Cal Poly move-in happenings we had the most delicious lunch at Chinelo. My daughter and I both had sopes. She had chicken and I had Asada. She had the fresh green juice and I had the Jamaica Agua Fresca. We sat on the patio in back. Seriously like being on vacation! Outstanding food and sweet service.

I dont usually recommend Mexican Restaurants because, even though some are better than others, they often do not stand out. Chinelo on Broad Street in SLO is the exception. Specializing in the regional fare of the Mexican state of Morelia, this establishment offers dishes you will not see elsewhere. For meat lovers, there are unique mixtures like the Alambre, El Campechano, and El Azteca. El Azteca, for example, combines spicy chicken, chorizo, nopales (cactus), potatoes, and onions. Vegetarians, like my wife, swoon over the Tacos Dorados that feature a delicate potato filling. They serve breakfast all day ( the Chilaquiles are divine ) and their tortillas are handmade. Relax in a secluded, private patio and after a Margarita, or two, soon you will be South of the Border.

YUM!! My go to breakfast is Huevos Rancheros and I had been searching for my new go to in SLO and today I fell in love at Chinelo! The green sauce, the handmade corn tortillas, the delicious kinda tomato flavored rice! Just YUM YUM YUM! My husband got the Tres Marias eggs and an Iced Coffee and could not stop talking about how good the iced coffee was!! We ate on the garden patio in the back that is simple but colorful and had lots of shady or sunny options. Also I was too full for paletas (aka amazing Mexican popsicles) but they had an amazing selection of flavors and I will be back to try them!! Oh also, the team running Chinelo are so sweet - you will not be disappointed!!

This was my inaugural visit and I gotta say Im definitely going to try all their menu items. For the first go round I had a polla asado burrito with spicy chicken. It didnt disappoint at all. The thing was huge! Also I scored a piece if tres leches cake. Ive actually never had it Chenelos style before and it was a nice surprise. Definitely give them a try! They did an excellent job dressing up the place compared to when it was Lotus. Sad for Lotus, happy for Chenelos!

I entered the restaurant very thirsty, they treated me normally and I paid for my soda and they denied me a bathroom because I had to consume more money, they didnt care about my human situation. I would never return nor would it be recommended
