Been eating here for over 30 years. Best bbq sauce and also best blue cheese around! I no longer live in the area but whenever I’m around, this place always receives a visit from me.

I have been going here since I was a child. It was so good to go back. One thing I did miss is the sawdust on the floor. Other that it was great. The service was quick, courteous, and responsive.

Food was great the older gentleman was rudeAnd had a bad attitude the waitress told him to give us menus because we had been there for at least 15 min and he said yes Ill do in a bit and he kept on doing something else so another lady gave us the menu after.I feel like he was rude talking to my kid in SpanishFast and kind of loud and I thought I was imagining but yea this man is rude and if he doesnt like his job he should work somewhere else.Food is always great Ive been going there for years but this server was just rude and his attitude just stands out

We took my brother here for his birthday and it was not the best place in town anymore. First of all it was really dirty and run down. We stayed because this was my Dads favorite location and we wanted to celebrate my brothers birthday in his memory. The prices were pretty high for the small portions that were served. I ordered a half order of onion rings the waitress brings me 4 onion rings and says two fell on the floor she will bring me them in a few minutes finally she brings me the other 2 really 6 onion rings for $11 you have to be kidding me. Plus all the meats were over cooked. After spending over $300 for food that was only worth $100. I dont think we will be visiting this location again. Sorry Dad this location is off our favorites list but our memories will always be of the good old days we use to spend there may you rest in peace love you

Order 1/4 chicken n beef rib. First off I made it my business to say this are first coming here. The cashier was so disrespectful. I mean low key smart mouth. Thats for starters. The food basically was a diabetic place no seasoning, not taste, the beans omg horrible my 14 year old makes way better beans. They were nasty n over cooked n the beef rib looked like it had a lot of meat. NOPE this place could never get 20.40 outta me. Disappointed

I grew up going to Chris & Pitts in Downey. I always got the same thing: spare ribs with salad with French dressing and beans or fries. The meal never disappoints. The cold lettuce is fantastic as is the French dressing which brings back memories. But what was once a reasonable price is now $28! 3 ribs, a small salad and fries for $28.

We had a great experience here! My girlfriend and I have really missed going to Chris & Pitts ever since they closed their location in Anaheim. But we made the drive out to Bellflower and it was well worth it. The BBQ and service here was great and we really enjoyed it.

Update: throwing up and feeling sick 😭 food poisoning is one of the worse things anyone can go through. I really regret trying this place!!!! We ordered the special ribs combo for $40+ dollars(we only got 4pcs of ribs).The ribs were tough, had a weird taste, and they tasted like they were couple days old. The fries and mashed potatoes with gravy didn’t taste good as well. Really disappointed and would never eat here again. Don’t waste your money here and don’t risk getting food poisoning.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich daily special with baked beans and side green salad plus a side of fries. My husband ordered the sirloin steak daily special with salad and mashed potatoes. Great value, we both enjoyed our meals. Service was prompt and friendly. Food came out with 10 mins of ordering. The parking lot is extremely small and very hard to maneuver, they have parking across the street, would definitely suggest that.

This my 1st time visit, whereas my gf is a lifetime customer. She spoke highly of it so I had to try it. We got a dinner for two and everything was great. The ribs, beans, and onion rings were da bomb. But most of all, the staff were very friendly and professional. Well definitely be back.

The place is truly depressing. Only because I was waiting for another person didnt walk out. Aside from being a very small entrance, there was no waiting area. I was carrying my 18 month old baby, but there was no space to sit nor to stand. Waiters were bumping into us, and they didnt even excuse themselves. Indoors looked old and not inviting. At the table, the space was extremely small with barely enough space to sit. Service was also bad. The waiter didnt acknowledge or welcomed us. He was rushing us through the order and seemed distressed like annoyed. The food was not the best, nothing I couldnt find at any other restaurant that could provide a better customer experience. Im definitely not planning to return. 🤮

Still the same place. Our waitress was a distinguished lady that was a real ball of joy. I think I have just gotten older and realized Im just not that into their food anymore. Great place though. The parking here is kind of a challenge if you have a large truck.

What has happened to my favorite restaurant. Went last night and ordered the steak and Rib dinner.When dinner came, my ribs had no BBQ sauce, so politely I asked the server for some because there was none on the table. To my surprise some higher up stated they need to charge extra, which was a dollar more. They need to go back to what made this restaurant great. So disappointed, I am not sure if they will be around much longer. Who ever runs these two stores needs to find another job, period.

What can I say about this place? Been as a kid (to the location in Downey). It brings back great memories of their ribs and that ridiculously cold lettuce that they serve. And who (these days) still serves French dressing?It is no longer a great deal like it once was, but with this Administration (Biden/Harris), name one thing that hasnt nearly doubled in price???I will be back.:)

If youre out celebrating or just feel in the mood to treat yourselves I cant recommend this place enough been coming here on an off since I was a kid and it still holds up ribs steak whatever you choose I promise you wont be disappointed the service is friendly and attentive and youd be hard pressed to find an environment quite like it.

Get your fill at the Famous Chris n Pits. They used a recipe with real wood smoke, which makes the meats absolutely delicious. The menu will have to guessing for a while. Their choices are endless. Well, sadly this is the second visit since a really awful one when the very nice owner contacted me...a month ago i ordered a steak Med well..it was so tough.🤔 3 days ago i ordered the meatloaf ( we gave it to the cats) it was undercooked hamburger and large shredded chunks of carrots.😢 i ordered my usual steak, this time Medium..hoping for at least alittle pink..OVER DONE AGAIN..the only salvageable part of dinner was the great blue ch salad and baked potatoe. So im in Bellflower and i will be traveling to Chris n Pitts in Downey from here on out..Someone in the Bellflower C n P doesnt know how to cook...its sad..used to be the BEST in town..

Ive been a big fan of C&P BBQ for years, yet tonight I was completely caught off guard. I purchased a full rack of babyback ribs - cost was $39.99 - came with one side (I opted for mashed potatoes w/gravy) - unpacked it from its foil wrapping and was GREATLY disappointed in both quantity and quality of the ribs. Enclosed were nine very thin ribs with little to no meat on them, several overcooked/charred....inedible. The mashed potatoes serving would be adequate for an adult male but certainly not enough for two to dine on. Ive eaten their ribs in the past and they were nothing like this. If this is the quality of their product offered there is no way I would recommend this establishment to anyone. I cant believe I handed over $39.99+tax for what I received. I attempted to eat two of the ribs - nothing on the bone to sate an appetite...the rest you all are looking at in the photo Ive attached. This meal is being returned to the restaurant tomorrow. Ill leave a review on how well that goes tomorrow!!***UPDATE***I returned to speak with the manager who was very courteous and concerned about my experience not being a positive one (as I stated in my original review I have been a long time customer and have always been satisfied and happy with their great meals) He offered another full replacement meal or a full refund of my purchase. Things worked out on a positive note and my faith is restored in them. Im not too shallow to realize that mistakes get made, humans have bad days, and we all need to give each other a break. My rating of only 4 stars did not in any way have to do with the food, or the wonderful atmosphere. Although they have quite a bit of parking alongside their building - the driveway and turnaround at the back can be a little tricky.They do have parking across the street, and are not far from the signal and crosswalk.I do love their decor (inside and out), and my BBQ beef sandwich, mashed potatoes with gravy, and my garlic bread was very delicious.All the staff were cheerful and HELPFUL to answer my questions about the items available.

I love going here and getting the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes. But this time not sure if they got a new cook or what, but I got a super bacon burger with cheese, and the entire patty was dry and burnt. 3.5 stars.old school bbq joint that is in need of an update. Big menu that is all over the place so selection is nice but overwhelming. Im not a big fan of their bbq but some people like it.I usually order the prime rib sandwich which is good for price. Prices are reasonable and portions are adequate.

Had not been here in a long time. Always remembered their great food. Tonight was very disappointing. The mashed potatoes are in a small bowl with gravy poured over top. It had a weird color. I had to ask the waitress what it was. The short ribs were tender but very fatty. My husbands steak was over cooked and looked like they flattened it will a mallet. Streak was swimming in a watery juice like it was steamed. The best part of the meal was the French dressing. Very high priced for such small portions. I first came here in my teens and it was a great place. Not the case now. So disappointed will not be back.

Stopped in on a whim, hadnt been in 40+ years due to living outta state. Good service. Not gonna lie, food was nowhere as good as I remember (except bbq beans were exactly the same 😋); weird, because it was lively for mid-afternoon and was always quiet and dark at that time, years ago.Had 1/4 chicken & singe BBack rib lunch special (was not too hungry on the Black Friday we visited) -rib was super tiny (see pic). They really need to open their parking lot back up and get rid of outdoor dining, my 85 year old mom had to walk 200 feet over sketchy gravel from parking as single spot handicapped parking up front was taken by a vehicle w/o a placard.Overall, a bit disappointing after all these years.

Old school BBQ -- sloppy wet ribs, old tufted vinyl booths, even older appliances. Some of the wait staff has probably been there since the very beginning. All of these things are what make it special. While its not the best, it is an original.

Food was below average but plentiful. The Bar BQ sauce does not taste like Chris Pitts. I thought the last time, I was here they had Nachos. I was told they never had Nachos. The pork ribs taste like the are boiled with no seasoning or smoke flavoring. I was charged $1.84 extra for a bake potato but waitress had me to think it came with dinner. When questioning waitress about the extra charge on bill. She stated, the menu say(?) its an extra charge for baked potatoes. It would have been nice if the waitress had pointed that out when ordering. Instead of making me think it came with my Prime Rib dinner. I did see the $6.95, if you wanted a bake potato with anything dish. My mother had a chicken and rib dinner. The cook cut up the chicken in small pieces with the bone attached. When I tasted a small piece of her chicken a splitter from the bone stuck me in the lip and gums. I screamed from pain. We didnt request for the chicken to be cut up like that. I have never seen this before. This wasnt good culinary skills. The establishment request at least a 15 percent tip. Have California forgotten that tipping is gratitude for excellent service and to the patrons disgrestion. I did leave the traditional 10 percent due to stupidity on my part. The cooks need to learn how to season the food lightly. The food is to bland. Even the French Fries were bland.

I’m sooooooo disappointed in this place. I haven’t been here in years, and what I remember it was this place being one of the best in town. When we sat down the staff was so unwelcoming, so unprofessional, the energy level was low and depressing. No one wanted to take our order, it took 25 min for them to finally take our order after I had to flag down 3 of them. Once the food came out surprisingly fast! I immediately knew it wasn’t fresh. The chicken was cold the ribs were cold and tasted old. When they brought the pathetic Mac n cheese out I told myself, that looks like it came out the Kraft box. Disgusting. Then the mashed potatoes looked like throw up, so much gravy that looked old as well. It my first time back in years and my girlfriends first and last time. If I could give this place a zero star I would. Never in a million years I’ll return here. Wasted 80 bucks and I want it back.

Youll either love it here or hate it. Im part of a later. They have an old-school elementary school cafeteria spaghetti that I crave. The steak isnt fancy, but it hits the spot, especially when paired with the big potato and garlic toast. The sides and salad are all old school—how it used to be made decades ago. The service is also nostalgic diner style with giant ice tea refills coming non-stop. The barbecue isnt great anymore, but everything else is A+ for me.

This place (#7) opened in 1947, the original one opened in 1940. It was very popular and even attracted the A-list crowd. Its super retro, both food and decor. You may have even used their BBQ sauce sold in markets. I highly recommend the experience if only for that mid-century kitsch.

I gave it one Star only because it wouldnt let me give none.First of all, it wasnt a very busy night. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer. They came out very dark brown as if they were either over-fried or refried several times. Once our meal got there, everything was cold. We bit into a rib & the inside was very cold as if they had just thrown it in the microwave directly from the fridge! The same thing happened to a couple of other customers. When we told our waitress, she apologized & asked if we wanted them to reheat our food. We told her no as fresh food should come out hot, not cold. Another waitress was passing by & heard us & as she passes us, (with an attitude) she says are these people really complaining. At that point we had it & got up & left. The people in the table next to us did the same thing. I am very disappointed with the food & quality of service we got. Needless to say, we will never be going back!

The Spare Ribs were very good. It was my first time there and I really enjoyed the food. The only thing is that they dont serve potato salad, but the coleslaw was very good. Great food, good atmosphere, dined outside where the weather was real nice. Staff were friendly, food didnt take long to come out. Ordered a sampler plate, beef ribs were a little fatty but the pork ribs were spot on, plenty of meat, baked beans were a little different than what Im used to on the East Coast but tasty nevertheless, loved the cole slaw as well. Still a good place to eat if youre in the neighborhood. Would have loved to try other menu items but didnt have time. Next chance to be in the area, will stop by again.

Used to visit Chris n Pitts as a child. It was my late fathers favorite restaurant we frequented as a child. I was so disappointed the food brought out was barely luke warm. The ribs barely had any sauce on them and was tough. I chose to box it up and take it home because the most palatable thing was the baked potato. My partner ended up getting food poisoning from this meal. So disappointed in this location, maybe will try another location.

I don’t understand the good ratings. They offer generous amounts, but the chicken fried steak and the meatloaf was “just okay”.I would recommend NOT TO ORDER THE BABY BACK RIBS!!. This time I got a side of spaghetti, which was an extra +$2 to the meal..thinking it was going to be a small side. The waitress brought me a whole plate of spaghetti and a giant meatball. It was such a savory meat sauce and I had so much leftover, that I had another meal for the next day! My mom ordered their Queen prime Rib with au jus and horseradish. I tried it and it was 💣💣!! The food here is the best. I am not usually a soup person but their soup is sooo good. Things can be a bit pricey, not by much but completely worth your money. Most items come with two side orders and garlic bread. The staff are also amazing people. They remembered my familys order and knew i am obsessed with their mashed potatoes and gravy so they accommodated with no issue. Finding great BBQ not catered to gringos taste buds is hard to find in the Long Beach and surrounding areas. Now the coleslaw was surprisingly the best part of the meal, the fries are fat steak fries, but needed salt or some Lawrys, cajun or fries seasoning. The chicken was moist, very little sauce, and like the ribs had no flavor and no hint of it being BBQd or Smoked, as a matter of fact, no smell of actual BBQ going on in the area of the building. I have been all over the states and tasted plenty of BBQ, this is not it and made our stomachs sad. I could have purchased C&P BBQ sauce from the store and mixed it with the WOODYS Cook-In Sauce and would have been much more happier with a home cooked meal. I am waiting for the day where Long Beach can adopt a Philips BBQ or Woodys BBQ, because this is not what I remembered in the 90s when there was a C&P location on Crenshaw Blvd.

Great place to have BBQ. Its like a Luciles BBQ restaurant before they became a franchise. It has this hole in the wall feel. This quaint atmosphere, random Western ornamenets, wood panel walls. It can feel run down but I believe thats because of the type of setting they want to portray. I really enjoyed the food. It satisfies that BBQ thirst I had. I would have liked a bigger waiting area because I felt I was in the way while I waited to be seated. Im fully vaccinated and find this absolutely ridiculous. I was born, raised and live in the lakewood area and will not show my papers to enter this establishment, along with everyone I know. Ive enjoyed their food over the years but in recent days its been very hit or miss on the quality, for premium prices. I hope this overrated bbq joint crashes and 🔥, they deserve it.

Love this place.... Been coming here since before I was born, when there was peanuts on the floor... (so my mom says) no matter how the service is, no matter how many times the server comes back and checks up on us,.... You cant go wrong here.... Oh man!!! What can I say about Chris & pitts!! I am 62 years old and I remember going to this Bellflower location; when I was a very small child. This place is an icon. The quality of the food has NEVER changed. This bar-b-que is the best you will ever get. The bleu cheese salad dressing is the best I have ever had! Try the onion rings! You will be hooked! Consistent quality, taste, and portions. A bit pricey. But oh so worth it. I live out of state now, but recently visited and Chris & Pitts was on my familys visit list. Service, quality and consistency for at least 55 years.

Honestly, the worst bbq Ive had. And Im 41 years old. Also very expensive. If you want good BBQ, go to Woodys or Phillips in LA. May be a little ride for you, but youll see the difference. If not just go to Lucilles.

I’ve been going here for 62 years, since I was 15 years old. They haven’t changed anything.I have friends that came from Australia. They said it was the best barbecue ever.I can’t say enough about Chris and Pitts.Fall off the bone ribs. Smoked overrnight, not just an hour and a half like Lucille’s brags about.Fresh crispy salad the best barbecue bean and their chili soup is full of meat.The service is always great. I have a Lucille’s Barbecue three blocks from home, but I travel 15 miles to Chris & Pitts Bellflower.When I’m out about town I always look for the nearest Chris and Pitts for lunch.It’s always nice to find a restaurant that doesn’t cut corners over the years and ultimately change what made them FAMOUS.

As a child, our family used to frequent the Garden Grove location and I loved the Hawaiian chicken. All the OC locations closed many decades ago, so my parents decided to take me here to celebrate my birthday. So nostalgic. Their blue cheese dressing is AMAZING as is their beef chili soup. The ribs are great and the bbq sauce brought the memories flooding back. Service was excellent. Parking is less than optimal on site but there is a second lot across the street.

You never leave hungry! The food is great and the portions are large. It is old school bbq and my family has been going here for years. There are 2 reasons it doesnt get five stars. The first is the decor looks as old as the restaurant. Also, they have very limited parking. Most of the time we either end up parking on the street or in the lot across the street and walking over.

Never again.I cant rate the taste because, I do not eat chicken. It was for my family. But, the presentation looked like they threw some chicken that wasnt cooked through in a pan, and put some bbq on it . My 9 year old grandson knew that it wasnt right...lol... Just spend $100 on a to go order for it to have zero silverware, condiments like ketchup for fries or napkins. Not one side of bbq sauce. Brisket plate was literally a plate filled like a bowl with bbq sauce and a few slices of brisket just swimming completely in it, saturated. As a born and raised Texan, this is crazy. A brisket swimming in uncooked bbq sauce? Like why, is the brisket that bad that it has to be hidden by a sauce? Idk I had such high hopes from the reviews and went to bed hungry after the disappointment that was tonights dinner. I have officially given up on finding a good brisket in California.

The food is not bad the baby back ribs are ok and chicken strips were really good my order was to go and when the order was ready, it took them like 10 minutes to give it to me which makes me think someone forgot about it and they didnt offer bbq sauce until I asked for it . It wouldve been nice if they check your order when they hand it to you since we didnt get 2 of the side orders. The food is good the service ok the parking lot too small you are better off parking across the street .

Its ok. Its Texas style bbq. Its pricey compared to other places. I will say the sides are decent portion and the mashed potatoes are fire 🔥. No potato salad! The rib combo, meh I guess if you want to satisfy your bbq taste this will do but I will stick to my place I normally frequent! I thought that my grilled chicken breast would either come sauced or they would offer sauce on the side Try it, you may have a better experience than I did!

Despite the ragedy appearance of the restaurant, the food and service was excellent. Although I dont recommend the baked beans because they had a weird flavor, the bbq they serve is exceptional. Very moist and flavorful meats. Potatoe side dishes are also great. Lastly, the service was awesome. Definitely recommend.

I haven’t been back ever since they newly up charged me on a plate just for changing from pork to beef rib. I’ve been a regular customer since 2002 but stopped going. Also there’s a Golden Corral right next door and for their prices are better for all you can eat plus they have steak or rib nights.

By daughter and went there for dinner. My husband and i went their for years. He passed away two years ago on aug 12. So she took me to dinner. The food was great as always. And the waitress made us feel so welcome. She had gramps favorite queen size prime rib. We ate everthing. Would highly recommend.

My favorite restaurant to eat in downtown Bellflower. The ribs are amazing: juicy, tasty, and delicious. Can get pretty busy on Friday and Saturday nights. Get to early if you dont want to wait but even if you have to, its worth it. The servers are friendly and welcoming. Just another example of a great family owned local place.

Came for lunch ordered a salad with my meal, I had a finger nail in my salad it was disgusting I told the waitress she offered me a new salad I declinedThe restaurant manager Silvia came out and said it might of been a customers nail she apologized. We have been customers for a long time now and its always been a joy eating there. But unfortunately last night we bought an entire rack to take home and when we opened our food ALL THE RIBS WERE BURNED! $150 wasted on burned ribs. How can they sell you burned food?? And our order was all wrong. Very disappointed.
