I ordered their Hungry Lion Burger for lunch take-out. This really was one amazing mouth-watering gourmet burger! The meat was the best quality, full-flavored Angus beef I have ever savored on a burger. Along with the cheeses melded together between the 3 patties, it came topped with lettuce, pickles, onion, tomatoes, and two strips of bacon. The produce was fresh and crisp. A nice touch was the brioche bun as opposed to the generic one found with most hamburgers. Meal includes a portion of deliciously seasoned golden French fries along with a cup of ketchup and their Signature sauce. I managed to devour the entire meal in one sitting. It was so filling and satisfying that I didn’t even have room later for any dinner.
Great breakfast! Had a wonderful morning today at Chulla’s. I will definitely be going back. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I can’t wait to try their lunch.

Really enjoyed this freshly cooked and flavorful food served by super friendly people. I got the pork chops with rice and veggies. The price is quite reasonable. They have a wide menu with something to please everyone, even those who may not be too sure about African food. The hibiscus tea was amazing - evidently spiced with a secret recipe. I been living in Sacramento almost a year and this by far is one of the best hidden gems I have found yet. The customer service was amazing and the staff was welcoming and friendly. If you are looking for a place to enjoy some comfort cafe style foods this is the place to go. Chullas has a little a bit of everything and can customize to your liking. I will definitely become a regular. Side note: try the hibiscus tea. I was so impressed with the quality.

Saw the reviews of this place, and I they had 5 stars on another platform so we ordered for delivery. Coconut shrimp, the veracuz plate which is fried cat fish both come in tanjier sauce, a peanut based African dish. We also got the chicken wings both kinds. The dishes were mediocre. Lots of butter used but that didnt necessarily pipe up the flavor. One steamed rice was drenched in oil/butter. The tanjier sauce is OK, but nothing to write home about. If youve ever tried Central or South African peanut based soup you know this can do a bit better. The catfish we got both pieces were partly raw. When I order food I dont want to recook it. All and all $💯 spent. Will I do it again, probably not. But if you want something different give them a try at least once.
Probably the best food I have had in North Highlands to date. Got two breakfast burritos this morning and they were filled to the brim and delicious, so were the roasted potatoes on the side. The owner let me taste test his hibiscus tea and it was wonderful, also a very nice man who you can tell takes pride in his business. I cant wait to go back and try other things on the menu.

This place was absolutely amazing in every way. The entire staff from the owner to the cooks, everyone was so warm and inviting. The owner chatted with us throughout our entire visit, told us about starting the restaurant and the inspiration for the food. And when the food came out it did not disappoint. I had the chicken sandwich and my friend had the Afro burger. Everything was well seasoned, the portions were perfect and they made sure we had all the sauces we needed. I have an allergy to avocado and when I told them they made sure the cooks knew and I could overhear the cooks reminding each other to keep my food away from anything that touched avocado. The entire experience here was absolutely amazing and we will definitely be going back to try their breakfast and their new ribs that are being added to the menu. Definitely recommend this amazing business to anyone that wants good food and just an overall great dining experience
Let me tell you when I say the chicken sandwich is 11/10 delicious,the Burger was 8/10 very filling and good (only ding would be they shouldve let the meat rest more before putting it on the bun)and the wrap 7/10 taste was good and filling, wouldnt call it a Sharma but more of a wrap with chicken and bacon. But overall no big complaint.The owner is nice as well, very approachable when it comes to criticisms. Wouldnt come here all the time but will definitely revisit to try some of the other items on the menu.

We asked for French toast, chicken sandwich and a hungry lion burger! Everything was really good! The hibiscus tea is freshly brewed and the owners are there to take care of you! They gave us a free refill! And let us try the tea before buying! Love it definitely coming back!
What a great experience! We were skeptic at first, my husband is VERY picky and doesnt like to try new things 😒, but I am SO glad we stopped here at Chullas!! The food was top notch, the coffee is delicious, and the owner and staff are so pleasant!!!! In fact, if the food had been awful, I still wouldve given them 5 stars because they were so sweet.
Went in for lunch to find a line of course! Despite that line the staff got orders in and food out so quickly! We were greeted with a big smile and a sample of the delicious hibiscus tea! I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was amazing! The perfect crisp cook on the chicken. One of the staff member suggested I try the in house made hot sauce and it was so good! I also loved the fact that one of the staff members who was cooking came out to the floor and asked everyone how the food was and if they needed anything. Amazing food, amazing experience. THANK YOU!
I had a wonderful experience at Chullas Cafe. Do not be fooled by the small-looking storefront. While it is a casual-looking place, the entire place that I saw was clean, orderly and comfortable. The food was delicious - the look on my friends face can only be described as pure bliss, I could only imagine the joy on my face!! Beyond this, the menu was shockingly large (in a good way) full of enticing culinary adventures, the employees are kind and professional, and the owner came by to say hi and make sure we were enjoying ourselves in a genuine way that chain restaurants try hard to replicate. We were treated to a little conversation where we got to learn a little of the cultural influences that the owner incorporated into this place and its food.I made a couple of assumptions based on the clean, modern exterior of the place but was blown away by just how amazing this place is. I had a steak sandwich with their delightful sauce and my friend enjoyed the heck out of their Jungle Jambalaya!!I highly recommend you give this place a shot. You will not regret the breadth of delicious choices - except that its difficult to choose only one thing out of so many tantalizing options!!

This place has the most gigantic burgers, you can barely take a bite through the whole thing. If you get more than one patty, you better have the jaw of a snake so you can dislocate your jaw to open your mouth wide enough! These burgers are insanely huge. We ended up splitting one and it was plenty of food for the two of us. Highly recommend this place. Its super small and quaint. The owner walks around and talks to people. Definitely a diamond in the rough, located in the middle of random strip malls and shopping centers. Tucked away in the corner. But their burgers are delicious as well as their fries. Some friends and I turned in to this place on a whim looking for a brunch spot before hitting the road on a road trip. The owner greeted us when we walked in, told us about the menu, and even gave us a sample of the hibiscus tea (which we later got because its fantastic.) The owner is beyond friendly, the prices are so cheap, the ingredients are fresh and the food itself is impeccable. This place NEEDS to be on the map. It is amazing. Seriously wonderful. Will absolutely be back.

Chullas is delicious and a great place to stop for any meal of the day. I got the veggie breakfast burrito and its amazing. The spicy breakfast and signature sauces were both great for dipping the grilled potatoes. Not to mention the hibiscus tea which was pleasant surprising. The staff and owner were very accommodating and friendly. Definitely check out Chullas if your in the mood for good food.

I can not say enough words to describe this amazing place! The ambiance is so lovely and the people here are so kind and nice. The food was so amazing and I ate wayyyy too much because I just kept wanting to taste it. I live about an hour away but will definitely be coming back just for this place. They also make this in house Hibiscus tea which is just perfect! I kid you not when I say it’s the best hibiscus tea I’ve ever tasted. I got a to go cup just for it. It’s one of the top 5 places I’ve ever eaten at and I will be returning as often as I can.

This was the perfect place to re-energize after a 10 mile bike ride! Im so glad to have found this Gem of a Cafe whose quality food and a great selection really hit the spot. The menu features many dishes from various regions. I kept it simple & ordered the house burger with avocado, bacon, Pickles & red onions-It was delicious! Iasked for hot sauce & they gladly supplied me with a satisfactory portion of their house made sauce; it was a Medium-spicy delight. Looking forward to trying more of their International foods. The owner was friendly, personable & professional. He even made sure to top-off our 🌺Hibiscus & Black tea drinks before we left.Update 1/22/22; After visiting this business about 4 more times, we noticed the quality decreasing. We ordered the Hungry Lion Burger medium rare and recieved it well done and it not much better than most frozen patties. The Hibiscus tea was excellent but I dont know if well return anytime soon.

I usually dont like hibiscus tea and I drank 5 cups of it and took 2 home!!! The portions are huge for the price and very filling!!! The presentation of the food was beautiful and the food tasted fresh and delicious!!! The chef even personally brought the food out to us. They made us feel so welcome there and like family! Perfect please to go for a wonderful meal with or without kids and definitely well worth the drive and price for everyone to try this place because once you try it even 1 time youre hooked!!! I had the Jungle Jambalaya and it was so good. It took me awhile to finish because it was so flavorful, I wanted to savor all the bites. I also had the hibiscus drink it was sweet and a little spicy. Everyone was sincerely nice from the lady at the register to the owner who stopped by to see how we were enjoying our meal.
I really loved the food and hospitality at this location. When my wife and I arrived, we were greeted warmly. I had the Afro Wings and it was really delicious. There were flavors I had never experienced before. They have a wide variety of food for anyone: schwarmas, burgers, wings, etc... I would eat here again.

It smells so delicious when you walk inside. I had the Oxaca sandwich with fries. So flavorful and the fries so fresh. This was a great local find!

Loved Everything!!! I arrived to a friendly atmosphere and COVID safety precautions such as plexi screen. Staff was very friendly and greeted us right away. The food was amazing, very well seasoned, large portions and amazing sauces. They also gave us free samples of their hibiscus tea! Which is like no other tea you will ever taste! Hard to describe but it will have you running for your checkbook! 10/10 on everything from food to cleanliness. (I always check the bathrooms out and they definitely passed the test)

We havent LOVED a place here. Weve liked a few spots...But Chullas? Man, we are smitten. When friends and family come visit from the Bay Area we will take them here. Cant say enough good things. If anything you must go here for the hibiscus tea! Starbucks has nothing and I do mean nothing on the tea here! The food is good too. They use quality ingredients and its tastes good too. The also carry quality coffee. Not the cheapest place around but solid food and great tea!Revision...The owners here are awesome! I have now been here a dozen times and they treat you like family. Amazing! I had the pork Afro shawarmas. I honestly did not know what to expect, but one bite was all my tastebuds needed. The Afro sauce is the key along with fresh ingredients. I had mine in a spinch wrap which really complmented the meal. The staff is kind and patient and were immedeatly offered a sample of their hibiscus tea which was also was a delight. I will be back!

McDs would have worked for me...The people were gracious, beautiful & Awesome... The food was even better! Couldn’t take pictures because I jumped right into eating! Excellently seasoned and interesting, perfectly cooked food, coastal west African, some Latin influence. Had a Turkey shawarma and Chullas salad. Meat was perfectly cooked and moist. Plenty of vegetarian options. The owner is so attentive, thoughtful and welcoming! 10/10! Will def come again!
Tried here for the first time, it was amazing! That Afro sauce was killer, they need to bottle it up and sell that for sure. We did the shawarma one beef one chicken. Very tasty, will get it with the afro sauce next. Cant wait to try the afro wings and afro ribs, well be back for sure! The owner was very helpful too letting us know what different food they have.
Swung by for an early morning coffee but was pleasantly surprised at the chill vibe (Jacob the head chef) and even the owner said hi! The juice they have is my new favorite and the breakfast bagel was a 10/10. Next time just throw some extra napkins in the bag as I got that tastiness all over my face :)

The owner greated us with a friendly smiling hello and then invited us to sit like we just walked into our cousins home.The environment was very clean and presented well including the large gender neutral restroom. We were driving in the area and hungry. We Googled food near us and decided on Chulas from the stellar reviews and amazing menu. Delicious food, drinks and very clean! Was passing through Sacramento & found Chulla’s - the Afro Beef & Chicken shawarmas were outstanding, lots of fresh veg & excellent sauce, plus perfectly fried potatoes and a superb hibiscus tea with a lovely spice mix.
The food here is fantastic. I recommend the steak omelette and hibiscus tea. The sauces are made in house and they are excellent.

My wife and I were in the area looking for a place to eat, we saw a few fast foot places and settle for subway when we parked we saw this place and thinking it was a Mexican restaurant cause of the name we decided to check it out, as we got closer got a bit confuse with the menu been mostly breakfast, we order a veggie burger and a sandwich this was great food, it was fresh you can really enjoy everything had great flavor, talking to the owner came to find out the name has nothing to do with the Spanish meaning, but it’s because of his grandma, great family restaurant, love supporting local businesses, I heard they’re opening a new location in Rocklin ca, best of luck keep up the good work.

OMG! Do yourself a favor Sacramento and go to Chullas. We ordered the grilled salmon and grilled veggies with coleslaw,and afro beef shawarma. This is fine dining in a store front.Delightful owners amazing food and the hybiscus juice tastes like love.

We stopped at Chulla’s for lunch. We wanted something new and different we were pleasantly surprised. The service was outstanding, food was terrific and the restaurant immaculate. We travel often from nevada to California and will be adding it to our list of stops!
Stopped here for lunch and it was great! Got the chicken shawarma. They had their own brewed sweet tea which was amazing! Everything was so good- highly recommend.
The Fish *Pollock* Afro Shawarma was to die for. A wonderful wrap filled to the brim with a blend of peppers, fish, and onions, tomato, avocado, and spinach tossed on a delicious house sauce. This is the beginning of a wonderful relationship. I hope to explore more of their menu in the future.
OMG this place was absolutely amazing.. We found them by accident and boy were we pleasantly surprised. Afro and Garlic Parmesan wings, Turkey Shawarma and a grilled chicken salad! Everything was phenomenal and so good we forgot to take pictures but take my word for it lol.. Awesome experience and well definitely be back!!!

2022-02-09 20:06:03This was one of the most tasteful and flavorful places I’ve been to in a long time. The hibiscus tea was amazing just a little to sweet but I definitely recommend it. The food tastes amazing we ordered a breakfast burrito, onion rings, a afro-burger with fries. The onion rings were great and the ranch with dill for the dip was a perfect match. The burger was amazing everything was wonderful. The afro sauce is to die for it’s their take on a teriyaki sauce. The potatoes that they have are amazing the fries were so good, and the quality of the burger patty was crazy and it was so juicy plus it’s super thick I got the double patty but next time only getting 1 for sure. The owner is an amazing guy you can tell he really takes pride in his business. This is definitely a go to spot from now on.

The service was genuine from the moment I walked into the door through my to-go box. I got the fried okra and the beef shawarma Afro style. Highly recommend! If you want a place to put a smile on your face or you need to feel a warm welcome, this place is a fantastic addition to the Sacramento food scene.

I have tried the fish shawarma, which I was a bit curious about. It was SO GOOD! Very refreshing. And the fries are so tasty. I think he said they boil the potatoes before frying them.I have had two varieties of the stew, the vegetable and the jungle beans. Honestly, theres so much flavor to the stews. Both were very warm, and perfect for a cool evening.The cheeseburger was cooked perfectly. Thick but still juicy! Just the right amount of cheese to allow all the flavors to remain center stage. A large bun to hold it all together.My orders were correct for pickup every time so far.I highly recommend Chullas, its the best food in the area. I think we have all grown tired of the options around here, so happy to have a restaurant that puts effort into their food.Thanks guys!

I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was absolutely amazing!! The sauce made it even better, I had to ask for another cup of the sauce! The potatoes were very good, they were a little crunchy and flavorful on the outside but nice soft on the inside. My significant other got pancakes and eggs and the pancakes were sooo fluffy and delicious! The food here tasted amazing. I will definitely be coming back!

I like that they have different sides like Basmati Rice, Jasmine Rice and Couscous.The staff is friendly and they follow social distancing rules. There is outdoor seating. This place is located on Watt Ave. next door to Subway.May 26, 2021I came here for lunch and I ordered a Makona Chicken Sandwich. It came with fries and a couple of dipping sauces. The sandwich had great flavor. The bottom of the bun was gooey on one half of the sandwich, (I have a thing about wet bread) anywhooo, I ate the sandwich and fries and was.pretty satisfied. The prices are really reasonable too.

The whole staff seemed to genuinely care about our experience and really put in a lot of effort.We had the Garlic Parmesan Wings, AfroRibs, and the Tanjier Stew with a Whole Fried Red Snapper. Fresh Hibiscus Tea to drink. The three plates easily will make six to eight meals. The portions are very generous. Seriously, I hope youre hungry.The wings were huge and crispy. The garlic concoction on them is fermented which imparts a unique flavor Ive not had before. I usually pass over chicken wings but my wife likes them, so we ordered them. I couldnt stop myself. Theyre so delicious.The ribs made me feel like Korean royalty. Gochujang and sesame combined with a West African spice palette. Tender juicy meat on the bone and once again, very generous portions.Finally, Tangier Stew with a Whole Fried Snapper. They mean whole... as in eyeballs, bones, tail, head, all of it. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, just perfect. The Tanjier Stew is a peanut based soup that is similar to Thai Satay, but its thinner and savory rather than sweet. Its paired with garlic jasmine rice. My wife is not much of a rice fan, yet couldnt put down the spoon.The hibiscus tea is sweet but also spiced. It is non alcoholic and served cold, but somewhat reminded me of mulled red wine or German Gluhwein.I highly recommend this place. I added a photo which was taken after we had already started eating so keep in mind the portionsare bigger than the photo. My wife held out her hand for scale.Well definitely be back!
