I’ve tried other Indian restaurants but I must say this one is definitely my favorite. The flavor of their food was delicious and the customer service was amazing super friendly and very nice. The best of all is the price omg so affordable and better than other expensive restaurants I’ve tried. I highly recommend them.

I really liked my experience here! The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. I had the Chicken Biryani and Rice Pudding, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. The biryani was actually spicy, as opposed to just strongly seasoned.The atmosphere may not appeal to everyone, but I found it comfortable. Just get takeout if it doesnt work for you. I also forgot to pay and had to run back later, but they were really nice about it.Oh, the price was very reasonable too, and the portions were generous!Ill definitely be back again. I highly recommend it!

Finally got a chance to visit this place after numerous recommendations from friends. I came in with high expectations but frankly was a bit disappointed. We ordered two main entrée: the lamb Biriany and the chicken Tikka masala. The biriany was good (but not the wow I was expecting). It was pretty much what I would expect at an average Indian/Pakistani restaurant. It didnt come with the usual yogurt dip and that was a bit weird. The masala was bland (in Indian food standards) and honestly was even below average. I also didnt like the fact that you have to order Naan separately for all the curry entrées. There was free Chai which is typical, and the Chai was good. I saw lots of people ordering kebab dishes so it must be good, but until I try that I wouldnt recommend it yet.Update:Tried the kebob and wasnt impressed. It was dry and too spicy. I also tried the tandoori chicken and it was OK. The curry (chicken Tikka masala) was good and the best thing in this place for me.Atmosphere isnt great and lots of noise. Better to order to go.

I found long hair. I talked to management I was expecting a sorry but sadly he accused me of doing that on purpose so I don’t pay.. 🤯 wtf… by the way this used to be my favorite restaurant. I was not believing what I was hearing. I was out of words, it was very shocking to me more then the hair it’s self. He pointed at my wife saying that it’s probably her hair. My wife hair is short and a different color and add to that she has a scarf that covers her hair completely. It was a sad day for me.

We ordered chicken tikka and seek kabab and chicken kharaye. Chicken tikka and kharaye was very delicious and filling. The seek kabab was ok. The tea was amazing had to join the line to get it. Its a dhaba.. not clean i think when last time I was there it was cleaner and oh ya it is dog friendly too

Came here for my birthday must say the cashiers were really nice people but the workers/waiters are the worse. We ordered and was waiting for our food. the waiter came and burnt my dad’s hand with tea/milk tea. never even said a sorry he just walked past him like tf made me so mad all the other workers watched and never came to even gave us a ice or sorry so disappointed. They stared at us the whole time and it made me so upset.

If you like indian food I dont think you can find any place better than here to go BUT it is not clean. Honestly is not even bearable! I wish I ordered to go! We Went there during the Christmas Eve.The restaurant staff was kind enough to take the order so soon though the restaurant was too crowded.He was also able to find a spot for us immediatly and serve us all the food within 10 minutes. The food was pretty normal ( not so good and not so bad). We ordered malai kofta, Roti, vegetable wrap, chicken biriyani and bindhi masala. The malai kofta and roti was so good, but wouldnt recommend chicken biriyani ( its more like chicken fried rice) and vegetable wrap ( doesnt taste go great)..The restaurant serves free tea which we can grab with every order which is a perk.The ambience was Little dull and normal

This place offer decent Indian cousins. We had veg Biryani and it was our first meal in San Fransisco. Briyani was good in taste. For the rayta you have to pay extra dollar which should not be the case. Overall the amount was okay as one serving was good for two people for which we shell out 12$. There are other options available as well. Dont expect much on the ambiance here. They offer takeaway and accept cash and cards both.

We came here for our last meal in San Francisco. The place was among many Indian restaurants on the same block. As we entered the restaurant, it was loud, busy, and “hole in the wall” is an understatement. Customers occupied the tables, and many were going in and out. I approached one of the busboy and asked him if we can sit at any empty table, or should we wait to be seated? He pointed at a guy in the front taking orders. I picked up a menu from the front desk and sat at an empty table. The table was filthy, and nobody cleaned it after the last customer.When we were ready to order, I went to the front to place my order. I asked the guy if the menu item comes with rice, bread, or salad. He told me no, just the meat. Rice, bread, and everything else has to be ordered separately. I ordered the lamb chops with rice, and the chicken, beef, and lamb kabobs (all kabobs are ordered separately) with naan bread. I asked him how big was the naan bread, to assess how many to order. He exaggerated it was big with his hands, like I asked a stupid question. Then I asked him if I order the lamb chops, and the 3 different kabobs, will I be trying all the different meats? He pervertedly replied mumbling, “yes you can try my meat, they’re really sour.” Appalled at whether I heard that correctly, I said “excuse me?” He said “yes, they’re good,” not answering my question. I added 2 naan bread and a mango lassi.When the food and eating utensils came, our appetites diminished. The plates were chipped, and stained with food—clearly they weren’t washed properly. I took the plates up to the same guy in the front, and without acknowledging it, he told me to go to the back near the restrooms, and get new plates. The “new” plates were all in similar condition, chipped and dirty. I picked up a couple and cleaned them myself. The water jug and glasses looked foggy and dirty-it’s time to replace them.The naan bread and rice were dry, and the rice was clumpy. I couldn’t distinguish between the 3 types of kabob, as they all looked and tasted the same-dry and falling apart. At first I was surprised the lamb chops were red, as they’re usually darker. They were salty, but better than the kabobs. The mango lassi (mango smoothie) didn’t taste like a yogurt based smoothie, but overly sweet and watery like mango juice. I’m glad I ordered it, because it helped us down the dry food.I don’t like places that charge for everything separately, like items that usually come with the entrees (rice, bread, salad, etc.); maybe it’s a west coast thing. Then there are up charges for complementary sides (or should be) like sauces. Their customer service is non-existent, I almost felt like I had to do everything myself. I definitely didn’t like the front guy’s attitude (he’s Afghan/pakhtoon as I heard him speak Pashto or a similar dialect). Definitely don’t recommend and won’t be coming back to this place. Only reason I didn’t give it a one star was because of the complementary self serve milk tea for dining customers.

I admit I have a difficult time picking between the trifecta of Pakistani food on this street - Shalimar, Chutney and Pakwan. But I really come to Chutney for their Tandoori fish, juicy chunky fatty basa steaks that just hit the spot.

This place is the one for me whenever I’m in San Francisco. The Chicken Tikka masala is to die for I’ve tried many places that do CTM but this place do it differently. I came back to this place after 11 years from the UK straight from SFO to this place and the dish was still the best on my list.If you’re ever around in the area give this place a shout and try out the CTM dish. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. To the owners, keep doing what you’re doing cos the first meal back to US took me straight back to October 2011. P.S. only one recommendation from me would be to lighten up the decor and could do with brighter lighting and that would be the icing on the cake for you Chutneys. Other than that you’re doing great. 👍

They are very flexible and will let you order any meat with any curry, at any spice level. The rice pudding is unique and definitely worth trying. Chai is free, prices in general are reasonable. Bathroom is good considering it’s in the tenderloin. The ambience is slightly better than other Indian restaurants in this part of town, although nothing too fancy. When it’s super busy the service slows down a lot, but otherwise it’s pretty prompt and the staff are friendly. All in all my favorite Indian restaurant in the city, highly recommended!

Chutney is definitely worth walking through the Tenderloin which says alot about the food. My favorite is the chicken tiki masala. Nans are great and you can get the garlic or stuffed cheese as well. Been coming here for a while. Just a heads up, watch your step while walking there and back... if you been to the Tenderloin you know exactly what Im talking about lol.But yes this place is a must try! Everything is good.

The plates were wet as they were placed on our table. The utensils were dirty. No knives given, only fork and spoon. The chicken Tikka masala tasted like creamy tomato soup with chicken placed in it. And literally only had 5 small pieces of chicken. The only reason for 2 stars are the tandoori chicken and the green sauce (chutney) we had to add to make the food remotely tastey.

I was here with few vegetarian friends since its an Indian restaurant. We ordered vegetarian biryani and chicken biryani. The quantity of the food is only sufficient for one dish per person. I got the Mutter Paneer and the sauce is oil, straight up oil, not oily, JUST OIL. Disgusted. Not to mention the hard, rubbery paneer. Naan was burnt and tasted like lighter fluid. Also I asked specifically if the samosas come with chutney and the person said yes– I get home to eat and look in the bag, no chutney. My family and I enjoyed dinner here last night. I highly recommend the eggplant dish, the flavor was outstanding. Everything we ordered was great. The samosas were very flaky and delicious. I had the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. It was a good portion w/ lots of sauce which I liked but not a lot of flavor. Overall it was good but a bit pricey. The service was also slow, I had to wait a couple minutes for the cashier to show up. But they did give you some cut tomatoes, onions, and lemon on a plate that you could add to your food which was nice. So there you go.

The biryani doesnt really tastes like actual biryani. However, the biryani still tasted great. The chicken seekh kabab and tikkah were so tasty. The food isnt expensive but the quantity is large. I’ve been coming to Chutney for a long time, almost every visit to San Francisco. The food is excellent, especially the meats. Their vegetarian options are good too, but they definitely provide more flavors for the carnivores (i.e. go find good vegetarian food somewhere else). This is the bomb bruv. The real deal holyfield. Try the goats brains. It may sound gross but they are spicy, fatty and just the right accompaniment to the freshly made naan (which is also excellent) and with some raita and vegetables,. The raita costs extra but its not much and its worth it because it provides a cool, creamy contrast to the generally spicy main dishes. Its usually listed on the menu specials. If thats too much for you they also have the more mundane things like chicken tandoori, lamb, vegetarian dishes etc. My vegetarian friend who is from India also really likes it, and he should know what hes talking about! We have been there together a couple of times and always come out full and satisfied. Another thing thats really cool is they have the traditional Indian milky tea and you can refill at no extra cost. I hope they survive this pandemic. No doubt things have changed, but this is a place that deserves to continue. I think its better than Shalimar, which has a couple of locations but is a bit of a hot mess and cramped. You can request the food to be made milder or hotter to your taste. There is no parking for this downtown dive so plan accordingly. Simple salad, Chutney and Masala tea always included. Our favorites are the kababs, tikkha masalas (both veg and non-veg) benghan bharta, biriyani and sometimes naan. Really good food at a reasonable price. Had the chicken biryani and was very happy, except for all the bone pieces. Mango lassi: yum. Onion naan: excellent. Many indian expats.

Get the chicken or lamb tikka marsala and 2 naan, place the # at an empty table, walk across the street and get a 6-pack beers from the grocery store, and bring back to the restaurant. Since it doesnt sell alcohol, it allows customers to bring alcohol into the restaurant.The creamy tikka marsala is pretty tasty especially eaten with hot naan. The cold beer makes the meal even more satisfying.Free hot chai.You bring the # to the cashier to pay after you are done eating.

Visited about a year ago.Customer service not the friendliest. But you forget about it because the food is amazing!!!.Not the right place to go on a first date. Weeknights are very busy and crowded!
