Clean family owned restaurant. The ingredients are fresh and you can tell. Open kitchen so the food is made in front of you. The seating area is plenty.
Food was missing something....not sure what it was. Egg rolls were burnt, not good. Ordered the house chow mien, the chicken, i think what was suppose to be chicken...need i say more.... was not good....over cooked noodles. Way too soft...anyways thats my experience with this place. HARD PASS.
Lacking flavour and packed out with vegetables… in meat dishes. Didn’t resemble or taste like Chinese food, really chewy chicken. Seeing a few similar reviews. Wouldn’t go back

I love is little Family-owned and operated little unassuming gem nestled in shopping center in the middle of town.They happily accommodate dietary requests, the portions are generous and the food is yummy. Truly a great “mom & pop” worth visiting and supporting!
Love this place. Been coming here for years. It is the same family that has owned and ran this place for 20+ years. All the kids are grown up now and have gone on and done other things but the food remains amazing. I still come here for the orange chicken and the chow mien! I have had almost everything on the menu. Love it all.
City Dragon is truly a Poway institution and an exemplary family run business. It is my Favorite Chinese Restaurant in the entire SoCal Region (south from Beverly Hills). Other Reviewers have commented about their kids who grew-up in Poway, and their later move to this new location. All that I can add is that their Mushrooms and Beef is wonderful. The veggies are surprisingly diverse and almost always perfectly cooked even as Takeout; and there’s plenty of beef. BTW if you like hot mustard, you must request it. Great place! Ran by a sweet older couple. Food tastes great, actually seasoned well and not tossed around in sauce like other places. Definitely worth a try
We came here thinking it was a different restaurant (!! dont ask!) but what a nice surprise - the food was terrific! The vegetables especially were delicious, the mushu pork was very good (with larger pieces of pork than you usually get), and the lemon chicken was very good, too, although prepared as small pieces deep-fried rather than sliced breaded chicken breast, as you often see.Theres a pleasant seating area, although theyre focused on take-out rather than dine-in (the food was served in take-out containers with plastic cutlery BUT the disposable chopsticks were nice quality) - if I go back with friends, Ill come prepared for a picnic and have my own melamine plates and real forks & knives!
Cant believe this place! Absolutely fabulous, if you are ever in Poway on the corner of Community and Poway Rd. In the Vons parking lot go to City Dragon Chinese food its the BEST food youll ever eat. The husband and wife team make the most authentic Chinese food in San Diego. Every dish is cooked fresh to order.. everything is seasoned just right and the portions they give will feed you twice. Look for it and you wont regret it. Awesome! Outstanding! Fabulous! Are not enough to describe this place.... BEST EVER!
I’ve been ordering food here since I was younger. City Dragon is absolutely amazing. Their food is delicious and the family that runs the restaurant is super sweet. One of my favorite place to eat in Poway.
Wow. Just wow. So, to be fairly honest, I only stopped here because it was close and I was extremely hungry. So I stopped in thinking Id grab some orange chicken and leave. But, when I walked in the door, it just felt so nice and cozy that I figured, what the heck, Ill eat here. To be fair, I was a little put off by the prices, but it was well worth it. The wife brought the food to my table, with Sriracha for the soup and soy sauce for the rice, and everything was prepared to perfection. The sauce on the chicken was perfect, the chicken had a great crunch and was nice and juicy on the inside, the rice was steamed to a beautiful fluffy texture, and the soup paired perfectly with the egg roll and wonton. Couldnt be happier, and will definitely be coming here again
The food was great and the family who runs the place was amazing! The wife played with my one year old son so I could eat my food while it was hot. First hot meal in a week! If you haven’t tried it, you should! We will be back...
The owners seem nice however I felt compelled to write. This was not tasty, and the only way I can describe it was that it actually tasted like a barn. We bought a few items for about $40, and none were fresh. It was also very greasy. I will not be going back and cannot recommend.
Rolled the dice tonight and ended up with City Dragon, this little hidden Gem has been feeding the City of Poway for more than 18 years. There was no one in the restaurant when we came in tonight but it was only 8:05pm so we had about 45 minutes to stuff our face before we had to leave to make our movie. Menu super simple and easy to understand (see picture) the couple here took our order for 4 people and had the food all out in under 8-10 minutes. We purchased Broccoli and Beef, Orange Chicken, Miso Soup, Egg Flower (similar to Egg Drop) and some chicken fried rice. I brought my 3 toughest food critics with me tonight, and all three gave the thumbs up approval tonight. We will definitely be bringing mom back here, all the food tasted great, warning soup comes out HOT, buyer beware. The couple serving us did a great job, definitely a cozy and welcoming place, the atmosphere definitely would be a great place to take a date. All drinks are bottled or canned.
Food was not very good and I was so excited to finally have a job next door to a Chinese food restaurant. However when I ordered the Kung Pao chicken with the fried rice the chicken was too rubbery and their fried rice did not have any veggies in it and it was super greasy and not to mention I would always hear the man who would be cooking the food always coughing and sneezing in the back constantly (even before covid). Sadly Panda Express taste better than this and I dont consider Panda Express good Chinese food. Good thing I live in the southbay where there are way better options for Chinese food.
Ordered family trays for wedding party. Orange chicken was ok. Szechuan beef was 90% vegetable 10% beef. (I’m being kind). Not the best food. But when your responsible to feed 24 people and you fail with Chinese food. It is embarrassing.
So Ive eaten at City Dragon a couple times now and I really like it. Both times Ive just gotten a lunch special. The employees are both very friendly, the food was prepared to order and came out very hot and fresh, and it all tasted great. I had the OMei chicken (think of a less spicy kung pao) and the orange chicken. There is a 50 cent fee for paying with credit card, so Ive opted to bring cash. Im a big/tall guy and I think it was a great amount of food, afterwards Im full but not uncomfortably stuffed. Ill definitely come back again.
One of those small, cozy, hole in the wall restaurants that serves authentic and consistently good Chinese food for not a lot of money. The owners are friendly and helpful, and worked with us to introduce our kids to Chinese cuisine.
My mom and I got quite sick after eating here. The floors were dirty too.I really wanted to like this place because it was cheap and the food looked good! But it tasted subpar, and the drink selection was lacking.

The reviews convinced me to try this place out. However I was a bit disappointed because the food wasnt tasty and it was over priced. $40 for 2 plates. I thought it was a bit ridiculous when we asked if we could replace the rice with noodles we were told NO. Therefore we had to pay additional $9+ for noodles.
Ive been going here since high school. A nice mom and pop shop with the boys helping out as well. The food is amazing here. I love the orange chicken, fried rice, kung pao! One of the better chinese food spots in poway.
OK Chinese food. Did not really care for the sweet and sour chicken as it was tough and chewy, but the hot and sour soup and the shrimp chow mein were above average. No fortune cookies or chopsticks provided! Probably will try somewhere else next time.
Food is good but its nothing special. Kind of wish the serving proportions were bit larger for the price. Other than that, the staff was really nice and the place was clean.

This place is horrible!!! The meat was fatty, the food was cold and there was no sauce with the dishes. We ordered orange chicken, cezhaun (?spelling) beef and moo shoo pork and it was all bad..

2019-12-20 06:28:37Seriously a gem! Ive stopped in and ordered eggrolls preciously but today I ordered lunch. The lunch special is quite a meal. Try the Shrimp Chowmein it comes with fried rice, 2 fried wontons and an eggroll. Wow was it tasty, so savory and fresh. Amazing! They are so friendly, highly recommend!

2022-08-05 01:09:46Unfortunately, this was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. My granddaughter, 9, ordered egg rolls and dumplings. The egg rolls were hard and greasy and rancid tasting. I ordered chicken egg foo young. Definitely not anything like I’ve ever had before. Not good taste. The dumplings were hard on the outside, but tasted ok on the inside. Won’t be back. Not sure how they stay in business. Dinner time and only two carry out orders.
