I have climbed for 30 years and did guiding when I was younger. Cliffhanger Guides gets a full 5 stars from me. They put on a great event and really went all out on setting up climbs and helping every level of climber to have a great experience. Their prices were very reasonable and the staff are 100% authentic. If your looking for a real group of both old school and modern climbing guides you’re gonna get the full package here.Honestly, I don’t need to hire guides to go climbing but I will hire Cliffhanger Guides again. They are so flexible when it comes to customizing the experience around clients. I honestly can’t think of anything they wouldn’t be able to do for climbing around Joshua Tree.

Our guide Greg was that and more! He planned a day that aligned with all our goals, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about nature, showcasing while protecting the beauty of JTNP. He keenly observed our skill and energy capacity, in-climate weather and early darkness to shape the adventure. Greg provided just the right amount of instruction and safety coaching without overwhelming or helicoptering and instilled confidence in the climbing systems for us newbie climbers. Interesting, kind, salt of the earth man that we felt honoured to spend the day with. When can we come back?!

He took us on quite the adventure and made it a super memorable first time climbing on real rocks and trip to Joshua Tree. Thanks, Tyler, for empowering us to try something new. Seth and his team were awesome!!! They clearly know the area like the back of their hand. They set up four routes for our group that worked for a range of different experience levels. Every aspect of our day with Cliffhangers was five stars, starting with booking and ending with a perfect half-day 60th birthday celebration climbing on the awesome rock at Joshua Tree NP. Avery provided fantastic communication, and our guide Andy was a total champ. We had fun, felt challenged, learned a ton, and were always safe and secure. Lunch was great (thanks for the cake, guys!) as were the conversation, jokes and info about the park (Andy, I will NEVER show up for a climb again without an ATC on my harness!) We happily and completely recommend Cliffhangers to anyone considering guided climbing at J Tree.

We had the best time with Cliffhanger Guides! We booked a half day and it was the perfect amount of climbing for our group of beginners. Greg was not only an incredible, encouraging, and extremely talented climbing guide but he was also an expert naturalist! He has so much knowledge about Joshua Tree, the flora and fauna, and the local geology. We were so impressed by him and the extra effort put forward that made our day so memorable! In addition to that, Cliffhanger Guides tended to every need from our group from dietary restrictions at lunch to carefully selecting routes that fit the needs of our group. Absolutely amazing experience with Greg! We packed so much fun into our half day and he imparted so much knowledge about Joshua Tree and so many sweet climbing skills. Lunch was great and everything about the trip seemed thoughtful. Cliffhanger/Greg even surprised my wife and I with cake (celebrating our 10 year anniversary) on the summit of Intersection Rock! What an amazing experience, I cant recommend enough.

My friends and I booked a half-day with Cliffhanger Guides, and we had a fantastic experience. From the thorough and timely communication ahead of time to having the best time with Skyeler setting up routes at the Super Heroes Wall to a well-timed lunch break, I felt excited and safe the whole time. Skye did such a great job accommodating our different skill levels since I’m a gym rat and my friends were more beginner level — he was hilarious and informative and fit right in with our group. Absolutely phenomenal experience today with Tyler. My partner and I had little climbing experience, and a limited window of availability, but we decided to do a half day rock climbing session with Cliffhanger. Tyler’s energy was at 100 from the start and he made us feel confident, taught us how to belay, and got us climbing fun and gradually more challenging routes right away. The half day flew by and ended with a killer repel and a delicious vegetarian lunch. Can’t recommend him and the Cliffhanger crew enough.

Easily the highlight of our trip to JTree. Will was an absolute delight. My partner and I had no experience with outdoor lead, trad, or multi-pitch and wanted help learning how to do it. Will is an excellent communicator and educator and clearly loves what he does--he got us oriented and on the rock super smoothly, answered all of our questions, and was generally just super upbeat and friendly. We did the full-day tour, which got us a 3 pitch climb up Moosedog, lunch break, and then three more single-pitch climbs in the afternoon. We opted for skillbuilding over more challenging routes, but we still got a great workout! Will took great photos of us, too :)Thanks for the great day, Will!

My husband and I booked a full day climbing tour, and it was worth every penny. From the initial booking and interactions with Avery, to the climbing itself, we cant recommend this company enough. Our guide, Andy, was professional, safety-oriented, extremely knowledgeable and fun!As experienced gym climbers, we wanted to gain more experience with outdoor climbing. Andy took us on a few lead-and-follow top rope routes, and we did our first rappels and multi-pitch ascent! Every step of the way, he explained the whys and hows of everything so that we felt safe. In addition to learning so much about trad climbing, we also learned a lot about the local ecosystem of JT, and got to take in AMAZING views of the park.Their packed lunch was also fantastic and they will cater to any food restrictions.If youve had prior climbing experience and youre debating whether to book the half day or full day, book the FULL DAY! Since it takes a while to set up, climb the routes, and take in the amazing scenery, youll only end up climbing a handful of routes and be left wanting more once lunch rolls around. We are so happy we booked a full day.

What an amazing experience for my 7 year old daughter and I! Our guide, Skyeler, knew the perfect routes for us so my daughter could build confidence and find her groove, and by the end of our 5 hours, she was conquering some very cool challenges. She started a little nervous, and ended the day full of excitement, bravery, and ready to just keep on climbing! So so worth it. We were also able to explore deep into some caves and learn about outlaws and cacti all at the same time! Incredible time all around, and Im so grateful to Skyeler and Cliffhangers for providing such a wonderful experience! From the initial inquiry though the end of day, everything was perfect.

Climbing with Cliffhanger Guides was an awesome experience. My girlfriend and I have never gone rock climbing before, and wanted to take a lesson to learn the basics and spend time outdoors getting to know the park. We went with the half day session - setting it up was as easy as a couple emails.Our guide Greg was a great teacher, communicator, and all around awesome person to spend a day climbing with. He took us on a variety of climbs which introduced us to different techniques, and throughout the day he taught us tons about the park, climbing history, and rock formations in the area. With Gregs steady encouragement, we improved rapidly throughout the lesson and ended it with a delightful lunch atop the summit of our last climb.We had an amazing time and would not hesitate to recommend Cliffhanger Guides to anyone looking to book a climbing lesson in the Joshua Tree area.

My husband and I just completed a full day of climbing in Joshua Tree with Skyeler and we had a truly incredible time. We are both first time rock climbing and I honestly thought I was in over my head when we walked up to our first climbing area!! I don’t know how he did it, but Skyeler somehow managed to very quickly earn my trust (and so much respect) with his knowledge of the sport and focus on safety. Some how his laid back and wicked funny demeanor was the perfect compliment to my high strung self. He graciously answered every question we had and offered so much encouragement. He took us to an area of the park that he felt would set us up for success based on our capabilities and desires for the day. We spend no less than 9 hours on our full day trip and honestly had such a blast. I’m not sure if there’s anyone else that can make me laugh and build my confidence all while I’m standing on the side of a 75 ft rock ledge. We hope to make this an annual activity with our kids in the future and will 100% ask for Skyeler to be our instructor again. Highly recommend Cliff Hangers!! Thank you for a memorable experience.

Booked a 5 hour guided rock climbing outing for my wife and 3 kids in early May, 2021. We met Seth, our guide for the day, at the cliffhangers building in Joshua Tree, got geared up and headed into the park. Seth took us to a spot that was easily accessible but off the beaten path, as a result, it felt like we had the park all to ourselves. After a brief safety talk and some climbing tips, we started climbing. Seth set up a few different routes for us, which allowed the kids to gain some skill and confidence as they moved from easy routes to ones that were a bit more difficult. After an awesome lunch at the climbing site, Seth took us through the Chasm of Doom a tight climbing path that weaves through a mountain of boulders. If you are looking for an awesome rock climbing experience with a great company and great people, Id highly recommend Cliffhangers. Our trip with them was one of the highlights of our trip.

First, they stayed in touch with me in the weeks leading up to our trip and were great with all of the questions I had.Kelly and Sarah were fantastic guides! They were very prepared, provided us with some great routes to try (we were all beginner outdoor climbers), taught us the proper techniques, and gave us plenty of good conversation. It was awesome to climb with these wonderful women! Our 16 year old son has been bouldering indoors 2-4/ week for about a year. I have no experience bouldering and only have done auto belay indoor climbing a few times. Visiting from very flat Minnesota, we wanted to have a guided experience for what to do in JTree. So glad I found Cliffhangers! Avery helped and advised us about various options on a couple phone calls. We had everything set up a couple weeks before our trip. Sabra greeted us the morning of our climb and introduced us to Jessy. They were so positive that we would have a great time, and they were right. They listened to what we were hoping to do and planned the day accordingly. They suggested changes that made a lot of sense. That’s why I like guides …. for guidance! We did traditional top rope climbing the first 4 hours, ate a delicious lunch, then bouldered for the afternoon. I have a pretty serious fear of heights and Jessy got me comfortable going up about 30 feet. Of course our son went to the top everything he set up (70 feet?) The key was that he did a great job explaining how safe it is, mental exercises/ breathing relaxing and trusting the equipment and him. He got me up there, and down. Aside from the ingrained primitive fear humans have of heights, I was actually truly comfortable and glad I did it. It was liberating and a great accomplishment. There is a lot of skill in guiding a safe, rewarding climb. There is an art to making people comfortable with it. In addition to all of that, Jessy was a wealth of knowledge on the environment of the park. As we went through the day there were impromptu lessons on geology, botany, the ecosystem and evolutionary history of Joshua Tree. That was super interesting. Plus the Cliffhanger website led me to locally owned AirBnbs, and that was great too. 6/5 stars!

My wife and I spent a full day of climbing in Joshua Tree with Kelly from Cliffhanger Guides. Before our trip, I filled out requested information regarding experience (or lack thereof), etc. Kelly chose our climbing routes based on that information. She was spot on! The routes were challenging, but doable for our limited experience. Kelly was fantastic! She was professional, yet easy-going and personable. She put us at ease immediately. Lunch was simple, but very good. I highly recommend Cliffhanger Guides, and will definitely use them again the next time Im in the vicinity of Joshua Tree. Do yourself a favor, and give them a try!

My friend and I had an AMAZING time climbing with our guide Kelly with Cliffhangers. From start to finish the company was incredible. I called a few climbing guide companies in Joshua tree and felt the most comfortable and confident in Cliffhangers. The staff member on the phone was so helpful and not only gave us info about climbing, but also helped us arrange the rest of our time in Joshua Tree making sure we got the most out of it. They could not have been more helpful. As far as the climbing when we arrived, it was even better than we could have imagined. Kelly tailored the entire day to us and our skill level. Our family outing included three generations of climbers ranging from 8 to 71, and one who needed to face her fear of heights. I had a wonderful time climbing in Joshua Tree with Cliffhanger Guides. From start to finish, the Cliffhanger crew was helpful, informative, and responsive. This was my first time climbing outside. They answered all of my questions quickly and were fun to deal with over e-mail. For the actual climbing, Jessy was my guide. He was a great teacher: fun, instructive, calm, careful, and patient. Since he was local to the area, he new a ton about JT and was able to explain things to me. He also gave me useful background on the history of the sport and insight into best practices. You could tell he loved climbing and introducing others to it. I would recommend him and this company to any and all! Joshua Tree itself truly is remarkable and after spending just a short time there, you understand why so many climbers pilgrimage there and never get bored. Seemed like the options for climbing were endless and in a stunningly beautiful setting. I hope to make it back soon and will plan to use Cliffhanger again!

Our tour guide Greg did an amazing job educating us about the park and facilitating a very fun, challenging, and rewarding experience. Learning about the science/history of Joshua Tree from Greg definitely made me appreciate it more.I had never climbed outside before and am a bit scared of heights, so definitely felt the nerves on my first climb. Greg showed us various techniques for climbing which helped me get the hang of things better and feel more confident in myself.I was a bit tired going into my last (and hardest) climb, but Gregs relaxed demeanor and encouragement helped me to calm myself and push through! He explained all of the safety procedures very thoroughly and ensured we understood the process before proceeding.I had a very yummy and filling vegan lunch as well - an arrangement of crackers, hummus/dips, pickles, veggies, and some vegan cookie biscuits for desert all from Trader Joes my favorite grocery store :-) Would definitely recommend Cliffhanger guides to anyone wanting to challenge themselves whilst admiring Joshua Tree in a completely different way. and Greg took some epic shots of us on the way up to remember it all :D

We had an amazing experience climbing in Joshua Tree National Park with our Cliffhanger Guide Kelly. As inexperienced climbers, with a 12 year old boy who loves climbing at the gym, it was a perfect introduction for all of us to get outdoors and experience the real deal. Kelly gave great instruction, and got all of us climbing lines we definitely had not thought possible at the beginning of the day. She focused on safety, and making the experience as challenging and fun as possible. Here are some pictures of us climbing, having lunch atop the Playground Rocks, and rappelling down. Andy was amazing!! It was our first time trying rock climbing, we were little nervous but Andy was super patience, he explained us everything and made sure we were safe and had fun!! The site he chose was also perfect, very peaceful and not a lot of traffic. We had a wonderful day with cliffhanger guides. In the morning they set up five short climbs for family members ages 4-70. They did an amazing job coaching the beginner ones especially the youngsters. They were so friendly and patient. In the afternoon they took our young adults on a multi pitch climb. They were very confidence inspiring and friendly. Can’t recommend a day out in Joshua Tree with them enough. One of the highlights of our trip.

We are beginners so we requested a mix of rope climbing and scrambling/bouldering. They tailor made a trip for us that incorporated both aspects and we had a fun adventure.Our guide Matt was awesome and we had the best time. Matt was very friendly, professional, knowledgeable, with a very pleasant demeanor and made sure that my son was having a great time. We made a last minute decision to visit Joshua Tree National Park and they were able to squeeze us in.We did 4 climbs each spread across two different locations. We had a great experience with Cliffhanger guides. They were easy to communicate with leading up to the trip. Tyler and John were fantastic guides - they had our climbs all set up ahead of time so we could make the most of our half-day, and they were a lot of fun to climb with. Had a great half day climbing with Cliffhanger Guides! They asked in advance for our level of experience and what we were hoping to achieve with our day and catered the experience to what we were looking for. Got in some great top-rope routes and ended with lead-follow up Cap Rock which was a new (but fun and achievable!) challenge for us. We had lunch on the summit of Cap Rock. Took our church group climbing with this great outfitter today! We had an incredibly fast check-in process since all of our waivers were completed ahead of time. They got our entire crew outfitted with gear in about 20 minutes, and headed into the park. Our guides were attentive, safety oriented, but high energy and extremely informative. All of our crew had a fantastic time and were coached up the rock by awesome professionals. The side excursion to The Chasm was a plus!. We had Jess, Ed, Tyler, Char, Adam, Matt and Emily as guides. Exactly what I was looking for. I 100% recommend Cliffhanger Guides to anyone. I am an experienced climber who wanted to push my limits. I was paired up with Jeremy, an amazing guide who easily led me up a lot of classic routes in the 5.9-10 range. I always felt very safe and was able to create my own itinerary for the day. I was so excited to take my kids (and some friends!) outdoor climbing for their first time. Cliffhanger Guides was absolutely amazing. The half day was perfect for our group of five kids ranging from 7-13 years old. The younger kids were definitely done climbing before lunch. The kids over age 10 were also pretty tired by lunch. Had I been with only adults, I definitely would have wanted more time to climb. It was SO fun to be back on the rocks!Our guides, Max and Steve, were so awesome. We climbed as a family with Seth & Sabras outfit on 10/11/20 for our 4th time in the past 5 years. We wanted an activity with our sons to provide respite from endless pandemic. As soon as CG announced their reopening, we booked a full day of climbing, and made the 8-hour drive from the Bay Area over a long weekend. We were not disappointed - what a spectacular day of climbing memories for our family with Kelly! With parents in their 90s with whom we have contact, we have taken COVID precautions extremely seriously the past 6 months: we were entirely comfortable with Cliffhanger Guides COVID protocols (i.e., fever check, masks-in-proximity, hand sanitizer ahead of each climb, etc...). It also helps that its all outside and UV light breaks down virus - pretty much as safe & sane as you can get. I spent four days of predominantly trad climbing with a remarkable Cliffhanger Guide, Roddy McCalley. First, Roddy evaluated my skill set. Recognizing that I had only been climbing for 3 years, he taught me the basics of crack, slab and chimney climbing. Having an encyclopedic knowledge of the climbing in Joshua Tree, Roddy thoughtfully selected as many of the single and classic multi-pitch routes as we could fit into full days on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday..... a total of 32 pitches! The day we we had scheduled was so windy I was worried if wed be able to climb. Our guide Joey knew the perfect spot at Turtle Rock that was sheltered from the wind and had routes that were perfect for our abilities. We literally had the best day of our vacation yesterday with Cliffhanger. We are 3 siblings (ranging ages 20s-30s) at different climbing and interest levels and our guide, Skyeler, was great about customizing the half-day so each of us could be challenged and have fun. Mental physics. The name of our climbing route couldn’t have fit more perfectly. Fear or insecurity sometimes limits what we can accomplish physically. The mental block is pretty powerful. We put our insecurities in the capable hands of Greg, our amazing, encouraging climbing guide in J Tree with Cliffhanger. He guided us through washes, over boulder scrambles, rappelling down cliffs and up the imposing granite climbs of Joshua Tree’s Wonderland. Couldn’t recommend Cliffhanger Guides more. Exceptional. We booked a full day for our soon to be 16 year old son Ashton. It was his 1st climbing trip (though he has been scrambling quite a few times)Our guide Jeremy was amazing with him (as well as with my wife, daughter, and me popping in and out)It was a tough day with rain, wind, and some pretty cold weather. We were all freezing and at least partially wet at different points. Jeremy guided him through it all with ease and he not only loved the trip, but has much more respect for climbing now (he has always concerned me in how cavalier he was scrambling). After some basics they ended up running 14 climbs up to probably some 5.8s,. The fact that it was raining, windy, and cold just makes for a better story. :)Great job by Jeremy and Cliffhangers. Just do it! Super professional company that you can trust. We set up a half day (5 hour) of climbing and lunch for 9 of us. Ages range from 11 to 54. Every single person in our crew had a blast! We went with a group of 6. 3 children ages 6, 9 and 11. No outdoor rock climbing experience. We rolled up around 8a to the shop downtown to get fitted for shoes & harnesses. We recommend maybe aiming for 7:45. There were already a few groups ahead of us by 8a. We met one of our guides, Holly to get gear. Once we were fitted we used the nice bathrooms across the street at the JT visitor center before heading into the park. We did a car caravan behind Holly. Our guides were Skyeler and Holly. Personable and you could tell they knew what they were doing. Skyeler was waiting for us in the park (having gone ahead to set up the climbing routes - we liked the efficiency. Kids wouldnt stop chatting up Skyeler on the walk to the lunch spot.We did a variety of difficulty levels and they even put up a few new routes while we were eating lunch! Definitely a great experience! My only tip would be if you have any non climbers, its probably worth it if the non climbers pack their own lunch v. paying an extra $15/each so the non climbers can have the same lunch. We had delicious mix of veggies, hummus, crackers, cheese, etc. Nothing you cant get at WM yourself and save a few bucks.

My group of three used Cliffhanger Guides in mid-april and it was a great experience. Our guide Zach K was extremely patient and helpful when climbing. He taught us the basics of climbing on granite versus limestone and was even educating us on plants and wildlife when we would see any. I’m not usually one to post reviews but my experience with cliffhanger guides was phenomenal from start to finish. From the get-go the customer experience was great. As a novice rock climber they were quickly able to quickly answer my questions and accommodate my request for a later start time. The actual rock climbing experience was even better. Andy was our instructor and he was exactly what we hoped for in an instructor. Andy was able to quickly help my girlfriend and I get to climbing. He was very thorough in his instruction, valued safety all while maintaining a positive disposition injected with a little bit of humor. Andy was able to challenge us and give us positive encouragement and instilled confidence in us throughout the day. He was the ultimate coach and cheerleader haha. The provided lunch was also great, super refreshing and way better than a bagged lunch. Overall really pleased about the experience. What a wonderful way to experience Joshua Tree! Myself and our 4 daughters, (22, 20, 18 and 14) had a great day with guides Sabra and Kelly! This was our familys first time climbing and Kelly and Sabra were patient and very helpful with our instruction. They fully outfitted our crew in state of the art climbing gear and had several courses set up for us to navigate in Joshua Tree. It was awesome how we all gained confidence and skills throughout the day. We moved to slightly more aggressive tracts as our confidence increased. We felt totally safe, but still challenged all day. Just got back from Joshua Tree and for my sons 8th birthday we went rock climbing with Cliffhangers. Sarah and Jessie were great- we had 3 kids 10 and under and 2 adults climbing- plus a 4 year old running around. Our family of four (two daughters ages 16 & 14) had a wonderful experience with Cliffhanger Guides. Communication was great through the booking process and government shutdown. We had never rock climbed before and our guides, Seth and Erica, were very knowledgeable, positive, and patient. They did an excellent job of giving us tips as we made our way to the top. I have a fear of heights and both were very encouraging. Our oldest daughter picked up on the skills quickly and Seth made a different route to challenge her. Erica did a good job of talking us through the climb giving us pointers on what would make a good foot placement or hand hold, etc. They took their time with us to make sure we had a good experience and werent in a rush to get the excursion over with. The gear they used was in excellent condition and high quality and the lunch provided was excellent. As a business owner Seth truly cares for his community, volunteering his time and resources to help keep Joshua Tree clean during the government shutdown. We hired a guide from cliffhanger guides December of 2019, so I little bit of a late review but it was a great experience. We brought our own gear but opted to use their rental shoes because they were honestly better and more suited than what we brought and looked brand new. We were paired up with Guide Kelly and had a great day checking out different crags. My wife was 20 weeks pregnant and Kelly did a great job of making her feel comfortable climbing and brought good vibes to the whole day and also recommend a hike and few boulder problems that we did the next day. All the email responses were prompt and accurate and the day just went smooth without any wasted time and we climbed till dusk. Took my boys on a half day trip (ages 7 and 9) with Jeremy as our guide. All 3 of us had an amazing time! It was a chilly morning and he picked a perfect spot that was somewhat wind protected and sunny to stay warm. He was great with my kids, seemed very comfortable interacting with them. Zach was quick to answer all of my emails and Seth sent a really nice follow up email as well.Their building is easy to find and there’s a free parking lot right out front. We had come from NYC on a red eye then drove two hours from OC that morning so felt a bit stressed but Seth and Sabra were able to get us fitted and chilled out for the day. We had arrived 30 minutes late and had changed the date and they were very accommodating to that effect.Our guide Gavin was very experienced and enthusiastic with plenty of stories and good humor. My wife and daughter aren’t really into climbing but now enjoy it.We climbed many pitches on Super Hero wall and the park was very beautiful with blooming wildflowers. Our final climb my 12 yo son and I did a multi-pitch on Intersection Rock which was amazing! Gavin was very thorough and communicative as well as instilling confidence the whole way with a high attention to detail and safety.Having a packed lunch already was great incentive. Everything was laid out well and organized so that you spend as much time as possible climbing. Having someone set the ropes beforehand for us ensured that we had many routes to choose from and did not have to wait around. The locations were also chosen well based on the direction of the sun and our abilities so we didn’t get spanked or too hot.Joshua Tree is a great destination for climbing and there is something there for everyone. That being said, expect for a bit of a challenge if you do not climb regularly.

What an adrenaline rush! For someone that is afraid of heights and very anxious about going out during the pandemic, this was such a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend anyone visiting the area. We had a very experienced guide, Jessy, who was not only extremely patient but considerate, informative and fun to chat with. He took us on four different climbs depending on our comfort level and explained proper footing, safety procedures, and how the equipment worked. He has a passion for rock climbing that gets you pumped and is very familiar with the area so recommended us pretty awesome tips and trails to visit during the rest of our trip at Joshua Tree. My boyfriend’s birthday just passed and I got him a full day of climbing with Cliffhanger. I wanted it to be somewhat a surprise to him so I needed to have all of my info together first. I called and got to talk to Avery who was incredibly helpful and truly sought to find the guide she thought would be best after I told her what his experience and long term goals with climbing were (he plans on doing an alpine climb later this year and needed to learn some techniques). She explained everything from pricing to how it would go to why she was choosing who she did for his guide. She communicated with me excellently. As far as the climb, I wasn’t there for that, BUT my boyfriend said he had an excellent time and learned a lot. He really enjoyed Zach and all he had to teach and he even set the equipment up my himself on there last climb. I surprised my boyfriend with a rock climbing lesson as an activity for his birthday, and Cliffhanger Guides and our instructor Andy did everything they could to make our experience memorable. Our first time climbing and it was awesome! We couldnt have done it without Jessy, our guide. He was super fun and gave us great instruction and encouragement - loved his attitude/outlook on life and how he applied it to climbing. My husband and I went climbing with Cliffhanger Guides and had a great time. We told them that our main focus was learning to anchor and to get some good climbs in. Our guide Kelly was very knowledgeable and taught us how to set up a top rope anchor from the ground up, literally. We started practicing on the ground and once we got it down we scrambled up and we set one up to climb on. We have been practicing at home and feel confident that we could take ourselves out to top rope.Cliffhangers also provide a tasty lunch that confirmed to our dietary restrictions. December 2012 ReviewThis was the second time we have climbed with Seth and it was even more amazing than the first time. We planned a four day trip with Seth and my fiancee, with one day to be spent climbing with Seth and Sabra to work on our individual technique as we climb at very different levels. My wife and I did a half-day climbing adventure with Cliffhangers while visiting Joshua Tree. Our guide was Seth and he was great - we had an awesome time. Seth took us to a couple different spots to climb in the park that are off the radar so we had these areas to ourselves. My wife is better at climbing than me and Seth was able to accommodate our different skill levels. We also enjoyed talking with Seth and learning about the wildflower super bloom and the impact of the government shutdown on the park. In late December 2015, we came to Joshua Tree with three generations of climbers aged 7 - 67 years old. Four of us were experienced climbers and four with a little bit of climbing gym experience, only. We climbed two days with Sabra and Cliffhanger Guides. My 7 year old daughter and I recently visited Joshua Tree for the first time and decided to take on a day of climbing. We were referred to Cliffhanger Guides and I can honestly say in my opinion they are THE BEST guides in the area! From the moment I called to plan our trip they were so helpful in planning a day that would fit both mine and my daughters climbing background. My daughter is the premier climber in our family so we decided to go with a half day / full day split (included with the full day climb was a fantastic gourmet lunch - all hail the sriracha tofu!). I took a friend from the UK to Cliffhanger Guides while he was out visiting. I’ve done a little climbing myself, but am not near familiar enough to be responsible for another person, or to teach. Seth gave us an exciting whirlwind of a tour with boundless energy and enthusiasm. Starting us off on the very elementary basics of ropes, on the simplest of climbs, he took the time to ensure that we understood the roping system, all safety aspects, and after we were finished, that we were emotionally comfortable enough with climbing to continue on to more challenging sets. At every aspect Seth was the consummate professional. But, while professionalism is certainly important, what really made the day for us was his excitement and evident love for what he does. I would highly recommend Cliffhanger Guides to any climber, but particularly to those who may have little experience. While my friend from the UK was excited, he had expressed his apprehension about the day before we started (he’s a bit cautious about heights). However, by the end of the day, with the help of Seth’s guidance, encouragement, and contagious enthusiasm, he was scaling up some pretty good heights without a second thought. We had a blast! My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Joshua Tree, and the Cliffhanger Guides made all of our rock climbing dreams come true! Seth and Andy were so friendly and welcoming from the very beginning. Cliffhanger guides were incredible! I have been on one other professionally guided outdoor climbing trip before and it was not even comparable to the quality experience I had with Cliffhanger.Seth and Sabra are the type of people who go above and beyond what is expected of them.My climbing partner and I had a breathtaking trip up a four pitch route in Joshua Tree, guided by Seth. We told him our skill level and he picked out the perfect route for us on the fly. We were looking to learn more about multi pitch and trad climbing as most of our experience is with top rope and single pitch sport routes. We learned so much. Seth taught us about proper pro placement, setting up belay stations, climber etiquette, and shared stories of some of his adventures. He brought a snack to munch on at the top of our route which had the best views around, carried our water for us and even took photos on his own phone and emailed them to us. We both felt very safe and secure the entire time.After the multi pitch day we had an incredible lunch.. healthy and substantial and plenty of variety so that even picky eaters would find something to enjoy. Then we went over to hop on some of the top ropes that were set up (we were in a huge group) and all of the guides were very serious about safety, which I appreciated. One of the guides even taught us a new self rescue knot and Sabra recommended a great juice spot for us to stop at on our way home. They were also great with time management.. making sure our large group were able to get the most climbing in as possible and didn’t waste time farting around.Overall it was a great day that I will never forget. All the Cliffhanger guides are extremely knowledgable about climbing, rope management, Joshua Tree, and just all around kind, fun, and interesting people.

Cliffhanger Guides is the only choice to make when it comes to getting the most out of Joshua Tree Park. I climb at Brooklyn Boulders regularly, but have never climbed in a desert environment. I met up with Seth in the morning, and by 10am I was chalked up and hanging off a rope. He was able to judge where my skill level was at immediately, and plan the rest of the day accordingly. Andy was incredibly knowledgeable and professional, going out of his way to help teach me techniques and important safety information regarding multipitch climbing. This past week we engaged Cliffhanger Guides for a half day trip with the family. The group was myself, my wife, and our two kids ages 7 and 11. Our guide was Roddy. What a great guy!But first, when we arrived, Seth the owner, was there to greet the guests. He spent as mush time as needed making sure everyone was comfortable and ready fo the day. Very approachable guy that puts you at ease.Back to Roddy our guide for the day, first off, he engaged with our kids right from the beginning. He was genuinely interested in what they had to say. From the climbing standpoint we climbed in the Indian Cove area, not the classic area of Joshua Tree, but I am actually glad we climbed there. It was not crowded, the weather was perfect, and the climbs were prefect for my kids first time on real rock (they both have climbed a bit in the gym). Roddy adjusted the day perfectly to what we wanted to do and how we were climbing. At one point we mentioned the kids had never rappelled. With that, we found a climb which worked for us to rappel down once we climbed it. The kids were nervous at first, but Roddy talked them through it. It ended up being their favorite part of the day. In a half day all four of us climbed 6 different routes, rappelled once, and had a great lunch.If you are searching for a climbing guide in Joshua Tree, Cliffhanger guides should be at the opt of your list.

My two boys, ages 10 & 12, and I had an incredible day climbing in Joshua Tree. Our guide was Zach and he was patient, thoughtful, & encouraging, helping my kids transition from indoor gym climbing to out-of-doors rock climbing, which is, of course, an entirely different experience. Booked this as a surprise for my husbands birthday and I am so happy that I did! This was our first time climbing outdoors (have been climbing in gyms on/off for 6 years now) and our guide Roddy was incredible! He took us to some beautiful areas of the park (are there any bad views in Joshua Tree?) and really tested our skill level. My GF and I have never been climbing outside of a gym in Winnipeg. The night before and morning of, we were both nervous at the prospect of climbing in Joshua Tree. When I searched for climbing guides in Joshua Tree, I found Cliffhangers with an immaculate 5 star only rating on TripAdvisor and they definitely lived up to their rating! I had a 3 person crew and we reserved a half day adventure on October 25th (Friday). There was a bit of miscommunication at the beginning of the day and we started an hour late but this didnt take anything away from the adventure at all! We lucked out and got the owner Seth as our guide for the day! He listened well to our varying skills levels and planned a day that fit all 3 of us! Very knowledgeable and fun guy, he doesnt guide much anymore from what he told us so we really lucked out on getting him that day. Excellent day and excellent service. For anyone that will hire Cliffhangers for an adventure (and strongly recommend you should!), you should meet in town instead of in the park, as cell reception is extremely limited in the park, which is good! You shouldnt be on your phones, you should be on the rock with Cliffhangers guiding ya!

I had the time of my life! I was one of 12 lucky people to attend a Lynn Hill Clinic through Cliffhanger guides! Seth and Sabra are two of the nicest people I have ever met. They are professional, knowledgeable, fun, and make your experience ever lasting. Everything from the climbing, camp site, food, guides, yoga, and of course, CLIMBING WITH LYNN HILL was A+. The guides set up lots of great routes! I know we all learned a lot. I will definitely be back! I cant wait!

I did a one day trip with Cliffhanger guides and I was incredibly impressed. They were fun & easy-going, professional & safe, knowledgeable & thoughtful. Mike was our guide and we had a great time with him. The food was really tasty too! Ive been with several of the guiding companies in Joshua Tree and this was definitely my best experience yet.

Great experience. My friend and I thought the weather was so bad our climb would get cancelled or be absolutely miserable. Not so! Cliffhanger took us to a secluded valley that was sheltered from the high winter winds and was warm and comfortable.The guide was great and really helped my friend, a first time climber, push beyond his comfort zone while still enjoying himself. We also got in more climbs than I would expect in a half day.Last, the lunch. When reserving they made a point that the lunch was good and they could work around dietary restrictions. I didnt expect much, though. Not only was lunch fantastic (one of the better meals we had on our trip) it was also gluten free as I had requested. If the good guiding wasnt worth going with cliffhanger, the food certainly makes it worth doing so.

I had a great interaction with Seth and Cliffhanger Guides, although I never got to climb. My wife and I had planned to visit Joshua Tree and get a day of climbing in. Everything was very easy to arrange, and the booking process was very straight-forward. However, 5 days before our trip, I broke my foot. Seth was very supportive, and kindly offered me a refund of my deposit (and also gave me the option to reschedule once my foot is healed). Since it was so close to the trip, I had not expected to get my deposit back, so that was a very pleasant surprise. I definitely plan to reach out to Seth and Cliffhanger Guides the next time I am going to be in Joshua Tree.
