More like 4.5 starts out of 5. A friend of mine tagged this restaurant in an IG story and the food looked delicious. We stopped midday on a Saturday, we were greeted right away and picked our table. We ordered the #3 Lemongrass Chicken with Chicken rice. It came out fairly quickly with a soup broth and basil, onion, tomatoes and cucumber on the side. The lemongrass chicken was absolutely amazing. It was tender and juicy and cooked perfectly. The dipping sauce with spicy peppers was a great addition. I thought it was a very generous serving of chicken and rice. Service was friendly/ fast and I think their prices are reasonable. We will definitely visit again!

This is a place for locals. They need some better service and to clean up the site a bit. The exterior is so beat down you’d think it’s closed. The food was actually good but overpriced for what you get. Host / owner wasn’t very friendly but wasn’t rude either. Didn’t seem happy to have a new customer.He recommended the grilled chicken, rice and soup. The dark sauce was very tasty. The soup was flavorless. The mini salad didn’t look very good quality so I didn’t even bother. Tea was very good. Jasmine green tea. I have been coming here for 6 years now. The food is delicious, I personally love the #7 lemon grass chicken with sticky rice. Their chicken pho is also great. You can really tell they put time and love into their food.

Very delicious vegetarian dry noodle bowl. It is a must try even if you are not vegetarian. It comes with a broth of either chicken or veggie. The salad is like no other salad you have tried before it is simple but extreamly flavorful. There a a chicken pho place with option of vegetarian soups. The first photo is a recent picture broth not in photo. They use to go bowls so you just have to ask for the tops if you have left overs. The second picture is prepandemic. Super yummy.

My food arrived late and cold. My soup was also cold or room temperature. I requested breast & wing and a side of giblets. I got dark meat, With few piece of meat and mostly skin for an almost $21 ( (not including other charges). See the pic, very disappointed!

Hainan chicken rice is delicious, especially chicken. Every order cmoes with o bowl of soup. Although it is located in the SJ downtown, they have parking lot, so it it very convenience.

Legit the best Hainan Chicken rice plate Ive ever eaten since having it growing up. (Better than what all my Vietnamese relatives made).The steamed Chicken is perfectly done, and I recommend the dark meat, and asking for extra fresh Vietnamese coriander. (Rau Ram)

This has been our go to place for chicken rice in SJ but on our most recent visit the portions have decreased, prices have gone up and quality seems to be dropped. There better options around now in the area. Still like their dry egg noodles though.

This place is great for perfectly grilled chicken. However, if you are vegetarian, please don’t look away! Their vegetarian noodle dish is amazing. It is served with a thinly-sliced cabbage salad thats doused in the lightest lemony dressing that is not even dressing. Its like kissed by lemons or something. Also the broth is amazing. If you are veggie, pesci, or whatever, I encourage you to take your meat-eating friends, look past their 99% chicken options, and try this vegetarian dish!! :)

Ok, so, I have only been here 1 time but I plan on going again. I was just looking to get some chicken soup on the way home and this was conveniently located at the time. The outside of this restaurant is an eyesore, however, this is one of those examples where, you cant judge a book by the cover! Honestly, I almost drove right by it because I thought the appearance from the outside was tattered and it just did not appeal to me but my intuition was screaming for me to try it and boy am I glad that I did.I was greeted instantly upon entering the restaurant, by a very welcoming, friendly, communicative & efficient gentleman. I think he was the host, the waiter, the cashier and the bus boy; perhaps the owner, even? He was so authenticly nice and helpful that I think that, just his positive energy alone, would have been enough to lure me back again. Nothing about him said that he was just there because he had to be or because he needed to be, etc. He was right where he wanted to be and it was really refreshing to be in the presence of someone like that, even if just for a few minutes. So, if customer service is important to you, I would definitely recommend comming here, just to experience that kind of great, welcoming energy, that is genuine and rare.He also helped me navigate the menue and find what I was looking for, so I placed my order. I was shocked when he asked if I wanted white meat or dark meat and whether or not I wanted the skin to be left on. These are all things that when I try to ask waiters and waitresses about, I am usually met with an eye roll, or I get looked at like Im crazy or they dont know if they can request that or they dont even know what kind of meat is in the dish that Im ordering, etc. At this point in my life I had litteraly given up trying to get what I want when ordering out, for the sake of sparing being made to feel like Im crazy, picky or just a pain in the, you know what, customer; so I could not have been more pleased to have someone who cared to get my order, exactly as I would want it. Amazing! Lastly, I only waited but a minute for him to bring me out my soup, which was delicious and made out of quality, fresh ingredients, done, exactly as I would have done it myself. Yes, this place, deserves 2 thumbs up and 5 Stars. I actually feel grateful to have found a place like this and I will be comming back for more. I will write a review for round 2, as well. Im curious if its always this good? We shall see. Oh and for those of you who are debating whether or not to try this restaurant out, I really hope you give it a try and remember to not let the outside scare you away. It is whats on the inside that counts! ;)

This is a clean place. Service is super efficient. We were served within 5 minutes of placing our order. I have eaten many versions of Hainam chicken rice and this is one of the best. Their ginger, garlic, salt and oil sauce is as close as the genuine stuff you can get. Parking is free and easy. The prices are excellent. Give their mind bean panda drink a try. Its delicious

Delicious lemongrass chicken salad (chicken is soft and flavorful), and salad is tangy and fresh! I highly recommend adding chicken gizzard soup for +$2. Also, definitely get the mung bean pandan milk, which tastes homemade (kind of thick & not artificial tasting at all), & is not too sweet! Home comfort food at its best :)

My husband and I have seen Nam An many times while walking by. We finally decided to go in and try it out. Glad we did! The service was great, everyone was nice and welcoming. Even better than the service was the food. I ordered the grilled chicken over cabbage. It was so delicious! Will definitely return to try other dishes

Specialized in Chicken, this place is awesome. Its a true Vietnamese restaurant, the salad has real herbs, not just mint. The hainan chicken was delish. I usually get the noodle with salad as it just so fresh and yummy. The pandan and mung beans dessert drink is really good too. Price is reasonable for the quality of food you are getting.

Yay for chicken rice and lemongrass chicken! Those were the best orders in (imho). Loved the sauces that came with the steamed hainanese chicken though. Just wish that there were more steamed chicken that came with the dish -- the quantity was just so precious! The chicken rice could have also had more chicken flavor. Liked that the dish also came with soup, although it was quite salty.That black sauce was the bomb though!! The ginger sauce and sweet/sour chili sauce were also pretty good. Overall, a pretty satisfying meal that didnt break the bank.

They got the order wrong...TWICE. Watch your Credit card statement, they have a reputation for overcharging. Lukewarm soup, Vietnamese coffee was also tepid. We were the only ones there at dinnertime... not a good indication. Normally I would write something positive but the only saving grace here was the waitress didn’t charge me for getting the order wrong, did I say TWICE?!?Thank goodness they aren’t the only pho’ place in San Jose. You have choices. Don’t choose this one.

They have parking and on a busy street like Santa Clara that is a plus. Now to the disappointing part. The protion size for the price was a little small. Additionally, the veggies werent the freshest. The noodles were musssssssssy and pasty. Finally, the broth...the important broth...was BLAND! Lacked depth of flavor. Also, usually when I order Pho to go thr broth at other places has been soooooo HOT. This was barely warm. Most reviews mention the lemon grass chicken...IF I go back I may try it. Otherwise, there are wayyyy to many Pho spots in San Jose to go back for that.

This is the chicken version of what I would call classic Phò. I had someone introduce me to the other sorry of Phô so Ill just have to try it all again. I had the 11, but dont care for strait chicken liver, and gizzard us just. My fault for not asking. Otherwise everything was fabulous and as I would expect of a place filled with Asians at lunch time. Im going to try the rice dishes next!
