Service was great and friendly, we we seated pretty quick was just a walk in before the dinner crowd. food was served at a decent time after we order. Chicken cheese cutlet was great just the aright amount cheese, chicken was crispy and juicy. The fries where nice and hot when served, each had there own unique taste. I like the chili cheese one. Portion for me was great very filling.

You have to a reservation for This place as it gets really busy in the evenings. It’s been recommended by my family many times so had to give it a try when in the area. We tried chicken cutlet curry with omelet and spicy chicken teriyaki curry . Garlic naan with cheese was very very good. Spice level 7 was good for Indian palate.although I thought I could go until 8 or 9. May be next time .The fries were regular but fresh.The portions are quite good. Atmosphere was okay ish . Service was good. We definitely can’t have it regularly but once in a while definitely try it .It’s different than many other regular places.

If you can handle the heat, go for 7 and above in spice levels. The curry tastes excellent, has delicious flavors, and you can add chicken, vegetables or an egg. The service is great, worth the wait, and definitely try Atleast once the spicy levels above 5. The fried chicken katsu also was great too.

To start off. The service was just simply amazing. It was so quick and fast that after we checked in on Yelp, we were brought to our table in seconds. menu was on qr code, so everything went smoothly. They have the bell service which is one of my favorites because youll be able to get a server to your table in seconds and dont have to waste time waving down a server.The food was also amazing! Came out in about 5-10 minutes which was perfect time foe us to settle down and just talk for a bit before devouring our curry. All of us got the omelet curry because the extra touch of egg just makes the experience so much tastier. The garlic Nan bread is also a must, by itself or dipped in the curry taste amazing and softDefiantly a staple in OC everytime I come back!

Great flavors. Going there is pretty easy but the parking lot can get full. Once there, we had a small wait (high demand for the food) but once seated, everything went smoothly. Service was very good, even though the restaurant was busy. The setting is very casual but also very comfortable. Food was great. We split two pork cutlet curries with vegetables for myself, my wife, and daughter. We also got garlic naan and a small salad. Curry and salad (dressing) were fantastic; the garlic naan was good but not Indian restaurant good.

Simply the best Japanese curry I’ve had in the area. Highly recommend the curry omelets. It’s very popular so expect a wait at peak hours but the service if very fast and attentive once you’re inside.

I tried Coco Ichibanya for the first time and it was an amazing experience!! We came around 11:30AM so it wasn’t super packed for lunch time yet. We ordered and within 10 minutes, our food was out! I got the korean fried chicken curry plate and it was amazing!!! The perfect amount of spicy and the chicken was so good with the curry. I would definitely get it again. We also got the cheese fries which were delicious. I would highly recommend this place if you like japanese curry!!

This has got to be one of the best curry places. I’ve tried a few that’s popped up all over OC, but this hands down beats everything still. Their pork katsu level 9 spicy is so damn good. Pair it with some keemacfries and you are golden.

Eat here. Dont think twice about it. I had the chicken cutlet omelet, in which the entire dish was perfectly cooked, at a 4 spice level (you can choose 1-10) and it was the perfect level of spice. I also got a side of garlic nan and Thai tea, which were also delicious. Tons of toppings and styles to choose from, but they also had keema, pork, beef, and more. Smaller place, so get your name in early and walk around a bit to look at the other places around.

Pros: Very delicious curry that comes at various spice levels.This restaurant is well worth the short wait time for a table. There is outside seating to use while waiting.The tables have a service buzzer to notify staff.The rice is soft and always cooked well.The garlic naan was well seasoned, light, and had a puffy soft texture that was easy to tear.The fries were very warm and perfectly crisp.The dumplings are crisp and juicy inside.The spicy chicken teriyaki is spicy as advertised. The chicken was crisp and flavourful. Definitely ordering again.Cons: The restaurant is extremely loud with lots of echoing noise. Very hard to hear each other inside. Avoid if you have sensitive hearing.

When we visit, we always make a pit stop here. It’s always busy but worth the wait. I ordered level seven chicken cutlet omelette this time and it was a great combo.The only negative I had to point out this time was our server. He was good until he forgot out 2 items twice. Well, I finally made it out to Coco Ichibanya. After dining at the venue in Japan, i was anxious to try our locale.Parking was a bit challenging, as there were many establishments sharing the same lot. We arrived early and seating was quick. The staff were friendly. Make sure your whole party is present to get your table. The restaurant feels spacious for its smallish size. Everything was very clean and organized.The menu had many wonderful offerings, and I decided on the Minced Meat Cutlet. I was in the mood for curry, and I was not disappointed. The server laid out a large beautiful plate with a generous portion. The meal smelled wonderful and was delicious. The curry was crisp and the curry flavorful.Great food, friendly professional staff... Ill be back soon!

Ive been coming to Coco for years now, and its always been so tasty! Its literally my favorite restaurant. The curry is so tasty and you can customize the spice level on a scale from 1-10. I highly recommend the chicken cutlet curry and a side of cheese Naan to dip into the curry! Their Thai iced tea is also very good! Highly recommend and will ALWAYS be coming back.

A few specific items on the Japanese menus are missing, such as dried garlic flake topping, and the cheese isnt Japanese style, but it was very close. Been looking for places to have decent Japanese curry since Curry House shut down more than two years ago. This place is pretty close. Unfortunately they ran out of menchi katsu, which is a favorite of my son and I. Anyway, we had the keema curry, chicken katsu omelette, pork katsu omelette, omelet with dumplings and naan with keema curry. They were all good. The naan was very good. The best I’ve had. The dumplings were also super tasty. I wish they would put tobasco sauce on the table like Curry House used to as it compliments Japanese curry very well. The watermelon juice was ok and the Thai iced tea was good. They did not offer curry pan.

Would be great if they offered premium ingredients. The beef quality was a little below average on a 1-10 scale for the beef the beef is a 4. They don’t use high quality prime beef for their stew and their stew tastes mushy like it was just boiled. Would be nice to find a curry house that offers prime beef or Wagyu grade that was cooked in pressure cooker. Rice grade quality also average or a little below average as well. Would be nice if they offered prime beef or Wagyu beef for those that want the good beef and he regular cheap one for those that just want cheap beef with curry and rice. Easy to find in Japan but not in California.

The line here is crazy and I can see why. Food here is authentic and the curry is so rich in flavor. Came here with some friends on a busy Sunday evening. The wait was +10 parties deep and around 15 minutes. We ordered the medium spice chicken curry, curry fries and the pork katsu curry. Between the 5 of us we atr everything from the plate. The addition of the cheese added a creamy texture. The udon noodles were soft and chewy. Overall we really enjoyed our meal. The curry broth here is authentic and you can add as much spice as youd like for a small fee. Price wise is was very reasonable and the portions were great.

Our friends told us to give this place a try, and we are happy we listened to them. The curry was awesome, as long as all the other dishes we ordered. I had the udon curry, it was so hot that it was hard to eat, but very delicious! The kiddy dish we ordered was devoured by our daughter. Our wait time was only 10mins which was another positive in our book. Also waiting for food was so quick, a very efficient and professional cook staff. Our server is super nice, even paying attention to our daughters needs. Our daughter was staring at them and they waved and smiled at her, love the staff here. The food was good, tasty, and full of spices.The thing I love about their food is that you can specify how spicy you want your food to be, I chose level 6 and it made the food even better than its regular-level.However, somehow I both liked and did not like the chicken cutlet, I liked how crispy it was, and the smell of chicken was not present because of the chicken being well-seasoned, however, I did not like the taste of the cutlet because it was tasteless, not spicy, not salty, nothing at all! I used to live in Hawaii during my college days & my favorite after school food was the Curry House! Im so happy that I could have it here now in SoCal! Its as close to Hawaii & Japan that you could get in the OC!Its perfect that my family has a taste bud for curry anything & everything! Coco Ichibanya makes it even more simpler by allowing everyone to pick their level of spice! So this place makes it a no brainier for us! My son loves the Katsu Omelette over rice! My daughter always orders the Keema Cheese Fries! My youngest is all about the Curry & Pot Stickers over rice! My hubby like noodles so its the Chicken Curry Cutlet Udon for him! Our first time here! The food and the service were wonderful...we enjoyed the chicken cutlet and pork cutlet so very much. However, the bathroom was dirty and rundown. It really surprised me to see the condition of the floor and the walls. The trash can was filthy. It really lowered the level of the restaurant for us.

The waiting time to be seated was excruciatingly long, but once we were seated, service was quick.However, I did not enjoy the place itself. It was incredibly noisy. I am aware that customers voice volume cannot be controlled, but the background music was also way too loud. It was hard to even hear what our waitress was saying, and I couldnt talk to the people I was eating with. I dont think Ill be eating there again unless its takeout.

Their chicken cutlet is amazing, juicy, and flavorful. Best of all: their curry spicyness levels are adjustable. I had been craving CoCo Ichibanya since leaving Japan.This place was busy with dine-in and takeout. We ordered at the restaurant to go. It was about 20mins wait.Pork cutlet curry, I ordered it and it was delicious, same great quality as it’s in Japan.Stew chicken curry. My friend is not a fan of Indian curry because of the strong flavor. I was hoping she would like Coco since Japanese curry has a mellower flavor. She tried it and she liked it better than Indian curry, but still not her preference.I enjoyed it, definitely recommend this place.

Its never been busy or too long of a wait. The parking lot can get hectic with all the food options in this plaza, but the service is great and the food is amazing! What happened!!? You guys were doing so well for bringing cocos ichi to California for the past years. My chicken cutlet wasnt fully breaded and I got a small katsu whats up with that? Last time I dined in my katsu was the size it supposed to be and properly breaded. Food isnt presentable it came to me as you see the picture. The sauce still is great tho. Whoever working in the kitchen gotta think about the customer as if they were the customer and saw that how they would feel.

The food here is delicious. When you walk in, youre smacked in the face with that amazing curry aroma.This was my 4th visit. The significant other and myself went on a Saturday. We arrived 10 minutes after they opened and they were already crowded. So, I would suggest getting there early.Although the service this most recent time was the best (with people actually refilling or drinks and asking if we needed anything) I didnt enjoy getting rushed out and having my plate taken away before I had finished eating. I get it, you have people waiting, but I wasnt done with my food. So for this reason I only gave four stars.

The last time I went to a CoCos was 11 years ago in Okinawa. Best food in the world, I always told people. Finally got the chance to check out the US branch on a trip to Disneyland, and its bringing back so many memories.Got the chicken cutlet with cheese and vegetables, level 6 spicy. It tastes just like I remember, just as amazing! I made sure to get a mug and shirt, since I cant come back for a while, but I definitely want something to remember this place by.If you ever get the chance, DO come eat here. Simply amazing, just wonderful food. I wish I could come here more often. Maybe make a branch up in Sacramento? :)

You must never been to Curry House, otherwise 1 star is a compliment to Coco. Spicy lv.10 is like lv.4, and lv.2 is like lv.4, so basically you get only lv.4 whatever you choose. Exceptional! Almost no wait on a Friday afternoon at 4:30pm, though it can be very busy at times. Double meat, double cheese, Chicken Cutlet Curry Level 5 is my all-time favorite. Toss in a side of Cheesy Garlic Naan and Im in heaven.There are two types of patrons: locals in the know, and US military members (and Veterans) who are satiating their curry love that was discovered in Japan. I am the of the latter.The biggest difference between the CoCos outside of Camp Foster on Okinawa and here is that there is no Orion or any alcohol at the Irvine CoCos. Some may say that the flavors are a tad off, but its been nearly a decade since Ive had CoCos in Japan, and I honestly couldnt compare them at this point. The staff is great very helpful and they know the menu. My favorite Japanese style curry around. I suggest the spicy chicken teriyaki and level 3 or 4 curry. If you want to burn your face off go for level 10. So I find that level 2 and 3 while yes hotter than 1 they also tend to just have more flavor. Dont want too much spice I recommend the veggie croquettes or omelette. Now I can eat but I still get the small rice the normal rice is a good amount, but you can even get more if you feel like it. So in all its a great place for japanese-style curry, with great variety and customization to your curry, however at times they can be busy.

This review is for the take out only side.They got 4 starts because I really enjoy Curry which had good flavor and unique options but probably deserved only 3 stars. Typical pork katsu was slightly overcooked and dry. The seasoning was acceptable and the texture was ok. The chicken was also dry but the squid was very good except the portion was small.Service left much to be desired. They only got 3 stars because they dont offer water and I had to go back for my squid and chicken which they forgot to put in my bag. It was nice and delicious though. I got the regular spiced curry and it was just a tad of heat which was perfect for me. This last time, it was empty, and we ordered from the Express. Someone named Kit was very friendly, but instead of adding on an order of food we asked for, he not only took off the order, he altered the first one. We live about 35 minutes away. We should just get into the habit of always checking all the food before we leave, but they bag and box it in a way that makes it very difficult to do in a car. It’s CoCos, just as good as the one in Okinawa. This place can get a little busy but with the check in device you don’t have to wait by the door. It will text you. I only get the chicken cutlet curry with cheese, naan bread and sometimes a small salad. This is a great place to get Japanese curry dishes. Usually, the wait isnt too long, maybe 10-15 minutes. Food is basic katsu, either pork or chicken, with a tasty curry gravy on top. Basic seating, where tables are close together, but you wont feel overcrowded because youll be focused on eating the delicious curry! I recommend the basic dishes - the ones with egg have the thinnest slice of egg covering a lot of rice, so its not worth the extra cost. Service is great, food is great, decent prices, and the ambience is like eating at a diner.

Online delivery takes forever. They have a separate line for togo order/pickup, but dangerous waste of time for online deliveries. Delivery person had to order upon arrival, food order was not able to go in through delivery app. They need to have online order options so the delivery person doesn’t have to spend the time in line waiting to order. Calculated time for delivery person was over 30 minutes in restaurant alone. Not a great option if you are hungry and looking for a quick bowl of curry. I would have appreciated if the server had taken the time to explain the heat level to us. To preface this, I came to this location about 2-3 years ago and the food was good. This review is reflective of my experience today. The chicken was very small and not seasoned. Very plain. The crunch was good. The vegetables were canned green beans, baby carrots and diced potatoes. The potatoes were OK. The green beans had that weird canned texture and taste. The curry itself had a weird taste and after taste. Garlic naan was delicious but on the small side. My friend tried to get an omelette dish but they ran out at 6:30 PM on a Wednesday. I did not finish my food despite being starving from a long car ride from Vegas. It was not worth the calories.

I love this place, sadly they have disappointed me the last 4 times Ive gone. It started with the soda machine not working. Then no nan bread and the last straw was getting their at 845pm and not being able to be seated because of a 1 hour wait time, that was fine but then I was told I couldnt do carry out because 1 of there fryers was broken. This has been an on going issue for months now. Ive never had any issues at the other locations, which I will be going from now on. If you never had cocos in Japan as a reference to its taste this cocos would be amazing. Its not the same as Japan, for example, theres no sweetness level just a spicy level. The sweetness level, in my opinion, was one of the amazing qualities of cocos, its what elevated the taste. Try putting honey in your Japanese curry, ITS AMAZING. The kids and I really love this place. Very authentic Japanese curry. They have spice level from 0 to 10. I usually get the 5 it is pretty spicy just enough to be comfortable for me. I have to contest The Awkward Guitarists review. I just visited Sunday February 21st and I have to say that everything is nearly spot on to the locations in Japan. Ive lived in Japan and dined on Coco Curry for 4 years in Nagasaki and another 4 in Kanagawa, so I know my family and I are very familiar with the taste. Spice level is SPOT ON, I always get a 2 because its borderline too spicy for me and my meal came perfect, just like Ive always enjoyed in Japan!There are a couple of differences though! First, the curry in Japan can come in 2 (sometimes 3) different flavors and here they only have 1. Secondly, the curry in Japan has little chunks of meat in it that help flavor it, here the curry is all sauce. Third, they dont have any dressing or cook at home curry for sale like they do in Japan, instead they have mugs and masks. Fourth, they are missing some toppings, like garlic or tomatoes. Fifth, they dont offer mild (sweetness) levels, in Japan Mild would range from 1-5 depending on how sweet you want it, thats just not an option here. With all that said though, the taste of the items they do have are 100% spot on! Definitely recommend it for those that need a familiar taste of Japan or those that just love curry in general! You wont be disappointed!

Please do not buy into the hype or wait times. There is nothing exceptional about this curry, and it is OK at best. It is very apparent that the average customer here has likely not tried other curry, and simply assumes that it must be good. The cutlets have an unusual aftertaste. Much too expensive for what you get. Great customer service and juicy katsu but considering the price, the portions just arent worth it. Unless you are really craving curry, youre better off just buying some cubes to make at home.

Omg this was good. Ive been here only once, but highly recommended from coworkers. Ive also heard it travels well so its a good place to order from your favorite delivery service. Food comes out exactly how you see in the pictures. The curry is perfect smack you in the face spicy up front, no slow burn. Their spicy scale feels pretty accurate and easy to estimate too. I went with a 4 and it was just enough to not make my nose runny, but give me really good flavor and a spicy kick. Highly recommend an omelet dish - the egg is a really great addition. The food came out super fast - get there when it opens and beat the rush because it can get PACKED and parking can get tough in that shopping center.Update: I work nearby one day every couple of weeks and this is THE lunch spot I hit up every time. So good!

The chicken curry at CoCo Ichibanya is excellent! I cannot praise the flavor enough. Spiciness was on point too. Service was great as well, all employees were very accommodating.Ive been searching far and wide throughout Orange and LA county for a good Japanese curry plug, and I think this place might be it. Be sure to check out the rest of the restaurants and other vendors at the Diamond Plaza while youre there, theyre all too tier quality.

Definitely the best or at least one of the best Curry franchises in America.Highly recommend the Fried Shrimp, Katsu Pork or Chicken and get the side of cheese option if you want to be more adventurous.Prices are generally reasonable although food cost and prices have become higher across the board in California, especially in Irvine.Im not sure why they dont expand a little more aggressively since Curry House closed their chains?Clean, efficient, friendly and good quality spot that you can pick up fast and eat for lunch or dinner.

The curry is great and can be customized in almost endless ways. So many vegetarian options! Once seated, service is fast and super friendly. Theres always a long wait, so be prepared! The restaurant is usually super loud and since I have sensory issues, I cant go very often :(

I came back home from Japan for vacation and was ECSTATIC to find that there were Cocos here! I love it in Japan so I decided to try it here. It was definitely a different experience. It is situated in a VERY BUSY shopping center so it took us about 30 minutes to park. The wait time wasnt too bad to be as busy as they were. There is a lot around to explore as well while youre waiting.As for the curry, it was super good! I mean it was a little more spicy than the ones in Japan. They have a lot of options to choose from. The staff was nice. I dont think I have anything negative to say either. A definite must try! And for people who arent big fans of curry this will give you a change of heart! SO GOOD!

Ive been here three times and all three times I couldnt ask for a better meal!Service is usually great, I wont mark it down for one forgetful waitress, because as soon as I asked another one they got me what I wanted asap! Theyre polite and quick!The food is really spicy! Even on the low levels, so If you dont eat spicy I suggest you start out at base spicy or get a curry with cream!Food Id recommend: Chicken cutlets and Chinese Dumplings! The Salad is great too!!

Oh, how the curry tastes. Let me start with what i got, it was minced beef cutlet curry. The beef was extraordinarily tender and tasty, the curry was delicious but with the rice, it was so much better. I got spicy level 3 which was like Sriracha and was perfect. Also the customer service was amazing. Would definitely go here again.

Wow, one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The food is amazing, the service is top notch, and I will keep coming back. Melanie is a fantastic person who not only hosts and takes orders from customers, but she was handling phone orders, kitchen, and making sure that the customers were taken care of. She is absolutely awesome!!! My favorite meat to get with the curry is the meatballs, they are a must have. The Peach Tea is a great drink as well!!!

The wait time never matters for this place. Last visit was an hour and twenty minutes only because 26 groups were in front of my group. Service is always quick (after your seated) and the staff is always excellent. Food spice varies sometimes but always tastes great even though I may need a few refills on my drink to quell the flames. Parking can sometimes be a nightmare here. Would eat this place weekly if it wasnt 90 minutes from my home.

Their curry is seriously so addicting! I once had it 3 times in a week! The wait times can be long depending on the day and time you go but plan ahead and reserve your table through Yelp. After leaving Japan, all I wanted to do is go back to eat some cocos as we called it. When in California, I had the opportunity to visit this location and was able to get my fixin. My expectations were high, but I have had heard that it was not as the real deal. I had a salad at first with their unique sesame sauce. It was runny and too water down. Then I ask for 400 grams of rice and chicken cutlets with a number 3 spice. I loved it. The service lack the cocos authenticity, but no one in America compares to Japanese humbleness. Anyway, food was delicious, the salad lacked pureness and the staff was too slow and with a bit of an attitude. I am leaving 4 stars because the main dish was still super delicious as I expected it to be.

Hands down a great place to get some Japanese curry. Definitely a fan of their chicken cutlet curry!Its a popular place to eat at, so there is a wait. However, the staff are able to get people seated as soon as possible though there a couple of flaws in which you sometimes feel like youre being rushed by them. At the same time, with the place being really its hard to get the attention of the wait staff. The button works sometimes, but I ended up just raising my hand to have someone come by the table.
