For those who have never been here, please come and enjoy all the dishes they have to offer.Coco ichibanya founded in 1978Headquarters: Ichinomiya, Japan, AichiTry walking in, if they are slow the Yelp reservation become open. If it becomes someone busy, i highly recommend you come in person and wait because they will turn the Yelp reservation off. I ate often at Cocos when I was stationed in Okinawa Japan in the 90s and fell in love with it. Found it on Amazon, ordered it twice and was taken back in time. But maaaaan, I screamed like someone just slapped the taste outta me when I find out a location was less than 2 miles from the hotel my husband and I was staying at!! OMG!! YES everything was perfect! Curry had that same savory taste, steaming hot, pork cutlet was a niiice size and I like the chunky veggies. My server was soo nice and attentive when I told him about my visits in Japan and he promised the same service and taste and he did not disappoint. PLZ BRING A LOCATION OUT MIDWEST near Scott AFB.

Lovely little place, with AMAZING curries. Really top-notch food.Downsides are that it gets very busy and its not a very big place. The staff were working extremely hard, but it felt like they werent able to deal with how busy it was. Could maybe do with an extra server?Ill still definitely visit again when Im in SoCal.

I vividly remember this place 2 years ago where I got the pork cutlets at level 3 spiciness, and after two rough years of COVID I decided to revisit there with my friends. The quality and tastiness is still amazing! Even the medium cut fries are great! They are slightly seasoned, with a brief nutty taste, and best of all they are light on the oiliness. The katsu and curry are good as always, with the katsu being crispy, juicy, and refreshing, while the savory, thin, and aromatic curry adds a kick of flavor to the rice. Overall, I love this restaurant and wish I could give it more than five stars but be careful and look into the allergies, there is peanutbutter used in the curry. Which should not push you away as you can always just try the katsu with a side of rice, though not the full experience still pretty amazing.

Best Coco Curry House I have been too in the U.S, hands down! We had pork cutlet curry spicy level 5 with spinach! Great combo! Another important feature of this restaurant is they proved plenty of pickled radish and tonkatsu sauce! Much appreciated! Great food, awesome service and if I closed my eyes I might just think I was back in Japan! Keep up the great work and I’ll keep coming back!

My boyfriend took me here for dinner. Its a very casual spot. Hes been wanting to try this place for a long time. We love the flavor or Japanese curry. The presentation is simple but the flavor is very heart warming and hearty. It was so good we ordered an extra plate to go.

1st time here, n let me say it was deff delicious glad we stopped to try it...It was deff comfort food❤️ came in in the evening 5ish and it was full but enough seating we didnt have to wait. Went with spice level regular and 4... either it wasnt spicy enough or she didnt hear me (assuming bcus 2 items were wrong but I left them we were hungry n nobody came as we pressed the call button) we started off with mini salads the dressing was deff 🔥then had the spicy chicken platter with curry n rice soooo yummy, the udon soup was too dang hot (temperature wise) we couldnt even eat it...Naan garlic was yummy paired well...the kids meal was deff cute...my lil one enjoyed it and deff liked the little bag they serve with it and the token for the toy. Customer service was great, friendly, and helpful as we arrived once we got our food didnt really get much assistance with the call button ...not sure if they work. But im deff goin back to try more menu items...

First I want to say thank you to the gentleman who walked me to my car today around 2:30pm or 3 and making feel safe when the homeless guy was out there. So to manager and owner you have an amazing employee. The service is amazing and I always doordashed the food but decided today to check it out. The food is good! But Im taking off stars for service.I was told that their system was down, they accept cash only, but that their yelp check-in was still available.After checking in, a server came up and told us to wait in our car. But they assured us that we will get a text message when our table is ready.I kept seeing others going in, but they didnt come out. Made it seem like we were the only ones told to wait outside.We waited 25 minutes in the car, and that whole time we were 3rd in line.After the 25 minutes, we did get a text from yelp: telling us that we were removed from the list.Ill go somewhere else instead.

First time for us to eat here! This is Japanese Curry restaurant! Yay!!!! I love Japanese curry flavors which is very different from the Indian curry. Japanese curry is sweeter.There was a 20 minute wait but it was worth it! We checked in on YELP and it was convenient to keep track of when our table would be ready. While waiting, we looked through the menu and soon learned there were so many options and making a decision was difficult. I ordered the vegetable curry and added eggplant and spinach( additional veggies are a few cents more ) . You can add more rice or less than the standard and the price is a few cents more or less. You can spice up your curry from level 1 which is the standard level or go up to level 24! My husband ordered the chicken curry, level 6 and it was perfectly spiced,however, next time he will ask for a Level 12! We added 2 garlic naan. I had the Japanese Ice tea, which was a barley ice tea, not a green ice tea. I love the nutty bitter taste of barley tea and you get free refills!Many folks were ordering TAKE OUT meals too. There are several southern Californa locations.Covid Safe. The table was cleaned and sanitized. The utensils arrived in a neat basket.Parking available right outside or anywhere in the large strip mall. There is a Baskin Robbins next door.

My favorite place for Japanese curry in Torrance. The food is consistent and there’s so many options to choose from from seafood, veggies, katsu, and grilled proteins. You can also adjust spiciness and rice amount which adjusts the price as well.Note that the smell is strong and you will likely smell like curry for the rest of the day. Wait can get long at peak hours.Tip: if you order katsu curry, get the katsu on the side to maintain its crispiness.

The food is always good. I there are a lot of option and I’m never disappointed because it always tastes the same. It can get pretty busy, but I like that they have call buttons on the table. It’s not a fancy place to eat it almost looks like a regular cafe? I never had a bad experience here. I order, eat and leave.

Worst curry ever!!!!I am more of curry maniac and tried all kinds of curries Indian to Japanese close to half a decade!Building seems excellent exterior with their logos and looked professional. However when I tasted first spoon, it was disaster. I usually order mild so I can taste the essence of curry. OMG, I I could taste nothing but salt! Salad, Nan, and Lash was good! But it is Curry house!!!!!!!! Awful experience, never want it again!

I was excited to find CoCo Ichibanya in Los Angeles as I am visiting Japan soon and wanted to try this restaurant out before my Japan trip where they have many more Coco Ichibanyas. I am appreciative that their menu allergen list is very clearly marked on their website but was disappointed to see that none of their offerings are vegan friendly. The website states this in big red letters so theres no confusion or misunderstanding about what is available. I wish I couldve tried and supported this establishment but Im sure its great for vegetarians and other non-vegans.

The portions are huge and filling. Comfort food that hits the spot. You can get regular or mild curry, or vary the level of heat for an additional cost.I liked the option of stewed chicken curry if I didn’t want anything deep fried, and it was nice to be able to add vegetable topping to it for some health.The pickled relish that came with it is usually one of my favorite parts of having Japanese curry, but it was actually a bit sweeter than I would have liked.The curry was a bit thin but quite flavorful. I could see some oil separation at the top when I finished eating all the ingredients.

Third time in a row that I could not order a salad with my meal because they ran out. This business is doing great, and I don’t understand why they don’t have enough. They are in the restaurant industry where these food items are pre-ordered based upon the demand. There’s always a 15 to 20 minute wait so they know they are demanded if this trend continues they can definitely get a lower rating from me next time. My first experience, of Coco’s in Okinawa, Japan, and this place used to be a pleasant reminder, it’s beginning to become a place all avoid that they cannot serve items on the menu because they ran out. Like I said, they’re busy but not that busy and it’s just a matter of ordering ahead of time. Maybe we need to change our a few people and Key positions.

Delicious food and friendly staff. I think the prices are about right for the portions. Unfortunately, after the two times Ive eaten here the food has made my stomach hurt so bad each time. Almost immediately after leaving as well. Its really unfortunate because the food is decent, I just wish my stomach liked it more. Ill stick to my personal favorite, Sutadonya at Del Amo.

Food was delicious and there are so many customizable options available for the curries.I got the curry with vegetables and added meatballs and a spicy teriyaki chicken cutlet and a side of the keema curry fries. The keema curry is so tasty - a must have! Meatballs are soft and well cooked. Chicken cutlets are smaller in size but still tasty. The curry can be made more or less spicy & I only got level 2 spicy and was still fairly hot. Slightly salty. Huge portions as well.Service was fast & our waiter was great. Very hospitable, nice, and quick service. Great lunch spot. Recommend making a reservation otherwise wait can be 30-40+ mins even during lunch.

As this particular chain store was one of my favorites during my time in Japan, I walked in with very high expectations. Im happy to report that, for the most part, they were met.Starting with the interior, it was very reminiscent of the ones I had previously visited which was very nice. The only difference were the bar style seats. Normally the people sitting there would be able to see everything that is happening in the kitchen, but in this case, there was a glass partition that prevented that. As for the atmosphere, it was lively and friendly. The servers were excellent. I was quite happy with their service.Now to the star of the show, the curry. It was 90 percent of what I remember it being, which is another way of saying that it was fantastic! The only difference is that this curry was a bit more oily making it runny whereas the curry in Japan was more thicker. Not a game changer, but definitely noticeable. I went with a spicy level of 5 and that had a good kick. It was spicy, but not enough to overpower the taste of the curry.WARNING: Do NOT get the garlic grilled chicken! It does not go well, at all, with the curry!

Pretty Great Customer service from all of the staff and very understanding(except for one server who messed up my order twice and gave us attitude)!!! Its not the same as the location as the ones in Japan and Hong Kong, but it is a good attempt. As for the spiciness levels Id recommend any level above four. If youre wondering what to get, chicken cutlet curry for sure.

The reason I went to Coco, instead of my regular Curryfornia, was because I wanted to dine-in for my birthday. Unfortunately, there was a sign that said they were closing at 9pm to do a deep cleaning so we had to do take out anyway... and you know what? its just not as good as Curryfornia. The pork cutlet curry with vegetables and cheese was very delightful and not too spicy at level 4. Service was courteous and prompt. I needed a bit of help with the menu as it was my first visit.On the downside the restaurant was Very noisy with no sound dampening on the walls so everything reverbed and echoed. Ill likely have to get my order to go next time as I cannot handle that level of noise. There photos of each dish in the menu did not have any of the extras so all I saw was lot of white and brown plates. I went with a friends suggestion as the menu was just making me want to leave.Overall the food is why I give the stars because that was the best part. Ill definitely go back but just for take away.

Great Curry, this was my second trip. Im a lover of spicy but this stuff caught me by surprise last time. I got level five and thought to myself oh yeah this should be fine right in the middle, but it was really hot and I didnt enjoy it. This time I got level 3 and it was nice but Ill probably land on 4. I had the combo plate curry minced meat and stewed beef. Really enjoyed the flavors and the service was good. If you go at lunch the lot fills up. I may even go back this week because I want to try level 4 with pork or chicken.

They service most of the time is fast buuuut the food is always consistent. Try their chicken cutlet. If youre averagely brave, spice lvl 3 can get you sweating.If youre feeling adventurous, their curry Udon is amazing. Ive been coming here for maybe 8 years and while people like to compare it to Curry House it is a very different taste to the curry.In all my time eating here or getting take out Ive only had a handful of bad experiences, 2 of them being while they were very short staffed. So the very long wait while inconvenient was understandable due to still having such a large volume of people ordering.I really do wish I could give 5 stars as I always love the food and will keep coming back as long as theyre open, but unfortunately they are consistently inconsistent with the spice level.There are days where levels 1 and 2 have a good amount of heat and could be mistaken for a higher level. And then there other times where their level 4 while still very good didnt have much kick at all.And while I dont have the biggest issue with this inconsistency it can be a little disappointing to order something that should have heat and it be mild.I do hope in the future they become better at this, but in the meantime I will still continue to eat here.

I have been here in the past with my family numerous times and the food has been superb. However I am not sure if today was an off-day but todays experience was poor and beyond satisfaction under some supposedly new team and management. We had arrived at 12:35pm and had confirmed a spot on the waitlist under my name for 3 at the counter. Lo and behold, we are left waiting for 20 minutes when the counter spots we requested for were ready for seating, so it was natural to check up on the status of our calling. It was greatly infuriating to hear that our spot somehow did not register in the system when it clearly confirmed it on their tablet software, and so we were placed to the last spot on the waitlist by default. The servers even had made eye contact with us on our way in, so we know they knew we had been waiting for 20 minutes plus before a mob of 10 people showed up. After speaking to the manager, there is clearly a sign of incompetency with the manager we spoke with today as they told our party that we would have to wait for our counter seats provided the other guests did not request for them as well, so they would ask each party for their preference. This seemed fair but it was once again a disappointing experience as NONE of the servers nor the manager asked each waiting party for their seating preference, and we soon realized they would only ask based on the speed of the queue. The service was horrendous and we are disheartened to see such a good restaurant that we have always been to suddenly change and have no discretion or care towards any of their customers.Postscript: In addition I would like to provide some critique and helpful feedback so a case like this does not occur again. It would be advantageous to monitor and update your queue system regularly to resolve any potential bugs in the software. A second note would be to train each server or staff member to be observant of parties waiting at the door, especially when spots they have requested for have clearly been open for seating. Finally, if you are going to suggest a solution by verifying each party, please do it immediately as the sense of urgency was utterly disregarded and hence led to our exiting of the establishment. This should be a fundamental golden rule of customer service satisfaction.

Coco ichibanya has sadly gone the way of what begins as a successful restaurant then gradually customers stop frequenting. These restaurants start off great then start cutting corners, specifically the size of the pork katsu serving has shrunk considerably. This is what happens when the owners get too greedy and the accountants take the place of the chef. Having been a regular customer, I wish them luck but dont expect them to have the longevity they could have enjoyed.

Let me preface this review by saying that that my wife and i love this restaurants food it is one of our favorite restaurants.The reason for the 3 star is because of the horrible Policy that they have of turning their phone and food delivery apps off during business hours. Stating that its to busy which forces us to have to drive down (we dont live close) and order in the restaurant and wait 30 min for the food instead of it being ready when we get there or having it delivered which is a major inconvenience.

The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered through their website and it was very easy. When we arrived one of the things we ordered was unavailable (understandable since it was near the end of day) and they graciously accommodated the order to something in stock. We had the garlic naan with cheese (incredible) as well as one beef and one vegetarian curry. Both were absolutely delicious and well made. The portion of curry is less than I remember it being in the past, but still a filling amount. The spice levels are great and though not causing a coughing fit, they do creep up on you. The Thai tea is great, though very sweet from my partners perspective but its how I like it. Similar to a boba shop with regular sweetness. I would highly recommend go here.

We did not get a chance to enjoy this restaurant, since prior to our orders arriving, my wife wanted to use the rest room and as she was about to enter, she slipped and fell face down on on the floor due to the oily and wet hallway by the rest room, the waiter that observed did not say anything even as my wife told them floor was wet and she had fell down, not even an apology, we even explained situation to another waiter, still no apology, we noticed a wet floor sign was even present resting on a wall, but was not put in place even after we notified them for the safety of other customers. My wife was injured and her jeans got oil stains.

Dont even bother to try and call and place in order for pickup because the line will be busy(either because of everyone trying to call or more than likely the phone is off the hook because when I go in no phone is ringing or anyone at the front answering) and if you try to order online you have to use one of the apps and get charged some more on top of your already $30 meal for one person) and the customer service is just so bad....it feels like you are bothering them and they seem so rushed and undermanned. I ordered the chicken cutlet curry with a side of potato croquettes and pork dumplings. My spice level was a three which was perfect for my taste. The curry sauce was good and much needed because if it was a type of dish that came without sauce, the food would have been too bland.I took away one star for the expensive price for a typical, bland-tasting chicken and rice dish. I did the enjoy the croquettes and the food was not cold when I returned home to eat it (a good thing). To add, I was impressed by the way the restaurant maintained social distancing standards and mask coverage requirements. The cashier was kind and professional and the service was up to par.

Tonight was my first time and Im in love! The prices were incredibly decent (my fiancee and I spent about $34 together, tax and 20% tip included), the food was fantastic (my first time eating Japanese curry, which Im now a fan of), and the service was stellar! We had a group of 14 and they somehow accommodated us all by sliding tables together and rearranging a bit. We got our drinks almost immediately and orders were written down and the food was served equally as rapidly despite us being a big group! Im super impressed with their efficiency, accuracy, and willingness to accommodate us- Ive been in customer service for a long time and this place went over and above for us. We went here in a friends recommendation, and we were not disappointed. The wait staff were friendly and quick. The prices were right. Most importantly, the food was delicious. There was plenty of variety in the menu, and everyone was pleased with what they got. I had a curry udon that combined curry with soup, and was perfect for a chilly evening. It was busy, so we had to wait to be seated, which frustrated the kids. Also, in a small space when its busy it gets loud. Other than that, a great experience all around.

I have loved CoCos for 22 years since discovering it while stationed in Okinawa. I was so happy they came to the US. Their food looks so basic in the menu and it makes you wonder how good it could be, but the flavors are incredible and complex. The chicken cutlet is one of my favorites, surprisingly cheese is also a good compliment to the curry. Their spice levels of 1-10 let you customize your heat level. Even a level 2 or 3 has a decent medium kick, I ate some level 5 and 6 when I was younger and for me thats pretty dang hot! It will challenge you, it will make your whole body tremble. Not a cheap place but its delicious. This is where I go when I crave a chicken or pork cutlet with curry. Everything is done very well. The cutlet is crispy and juicy and the curry is delicious and very customizable.I tend to add mushrooms and their veggie croquet. The mushrooms are great. Im not sure what kind they are but its not just the typical portobello.Then you select the spiciness level. If you like spicy curry, this place does it right. You select from 0 to 10. I like spicy food and Im only at a 6. I think a 4 would be a good place to start, if you like spicy. This is one of only a few places where I have to respect the spiciness level. Most places dont even get close to what I want. I like that theyre is consistency also with this place. I dialed in the spiciness level Im looking for and its consistent.I think my plate comes out to around $17-18. Pork cutlet, mushrooms and the veggie croquet. Im a big guy @ 62 230lbs, and Im very satisfied/full when Im done.Its not cheap but it also doesnt taste cheap. I recommend it.

My first experience with cocos was in Okinawa, Japan. I was hooked from my first bite. I waited a long time for them to finally come to the states...and it was worth it.The chicken katsu is a favorite of most, and is a great choice. My personal favorite is the fried chicken and adding in the Chinese dumplings. Add cheese if your feeling a little gooey! The spice level can be tricky... if you cant handle it at all stick with mild. Japanese style curry with lots of options if youre looking for a spicy meal. They specialize in chicken katsu curry, but theyre dumplings, tofu and other options are all great with curry. I would suggest starting with a Level 1 spice just to test your taste buds first. One of my favorite places this in area! The curry is delicious here, the service is always great and the options are unlimited. If you like Japanese curry, its worth the visit. Even if you are with those who may not be into it as much, there are salad options they could have.

Absolutely love this place! Anything on the menu is great, and the servers are attentive and kind. The food comes in a reasonable amount of time, youll be able to go here for an hour lunch break if you work close. Bring a sweater though, the AC is always cranked so it can be a bit chilly.

Coco makes the best Japanese curry--very flavorful! I definitely prefer Coco over Curry House. Everything is customizable--the toppings (they have many choices, dont be afraid to mix and match!), the quantities of everything, the spiciness. They make a great green (side) salad with corn and egg and, of course, Japanese dressing. They have curry udon. They have a good selection of sides and drinks and the staff is friendly and efficient.Good smell, good curry!

It can come with white,brown rice or salad style. Choose your many meats or vegetables or combo them if you like. Then dig in. Everytime we order they always mess up the order. We drive from signal hill to get food from this place. And after driving over 25 mins home the order was wrong again. We tried calling this place and phone was busy. I advised the girl we ordered from that we were calling over 20mins to order and busy phone. Service was great and the food was delicious. I ordered a level 10 like always and it was finally kind of spicy! It was finally closer to a Japan level 8 which is wwwaaayyy better than the usual level 6 they give me. It was great! so far this was the closest to an actual 10 Ive had so far here in America and it was here at the Torrence cocos. The other 3 cocos restaurants still serve a 6-ish spicy when you ask for a 10.

I love curry and after finding this place, always waiting to return.i did have an issue last visit with a non-chicken eating guest i brought but there was no problem in fixing the issue..they returned with the right order after a couple of tries but fixed the problem with a smile. The taste made it all the better with the many variations of curry to try and different levels of heat, you cant go wrong.

Probably the best curry around Torrance from what Ive had and probably also the best Japanese curry youll get period. With a wide variety of options, theres a little something for everyone.For the base curry, you get your choice of regular sauce or keema sauce which is just minced chicken and other spices in addition to the regular curry.You can either pick the curry styles they suggest w/ different veggies and meats, or just pick your curry style and add items a la cart (which is basically what the curry styles they suggest are).I typically go for keema curry, veggies, and chicken cutlet. The way they fry their cutlet is definitely a stand out compared to other cutlets. The batter seems lighter than other cutlets which give it a unique flavor and experience. Definitely recommend that as a first option.From there what makes this place also stand out is their spice levels. Goes from basically 1-10. I usually go for 3 and I like spices so watch out even at this level.

Used to eat here a lot when I lived in Japan. The Curry is heavenly but be careful not to order it too spicy, they do not play around when it comes to spicy. I recommend the chicken cutlet curry with cheese, a jumbo Thai ice tea, and some garlic cheese naan, you wont be dissapointed.

Nickle and dimed to the point its just not worth eating there when there are so many other good curry places in the area.Tip: If you like your curry spicy but dont want to pay extra, just get the regular spice level and ask your server for chili powder to add it to the curry yourself.

This is the place to go for Japanese curry. You can completely customize your curry dish, with 10 levels of spiciness, rice, noodles, omelette, and assorted addons such as potatoe croquette, fried fish, tonkatsu, assorted vegetables.I got level 6 which was pretty spicy. I like a bit of spiciness, next time Ill try 5. They also have a kids menu and kids club. The kids can get currency that they can use to buy things like a notebook or other items, as long as they save them up across visits.I didnt have a problem finding parking in the lot. The service was good, and the bathrooms were clean and reasonable.I hope they open one by San Francisco!

Honestly, I give credit to this place for getting me to like curry. Yes, I know there are different types of curry but before Cocos, I wouldnt even bother. I love the customization options you get here and the staff is super friendly and helpful. When this place first opened it, it stuck to just classic japanese curry but lately theyve been messing with the menu (in a positive way) and giving you limited edition choices like spaghetti curry, hot dogs, ramen, etc. Dont forget to bring a buddy and get all Lady & the Tramp with their jumbo thai tea. Unless youre going extra spicy, then you wont want to share cuz youll need something to cool of the spice.

If you want some delicious curry come here they’re also open pretty late but there Japanese curry is very authentic. They also offers some Indian curry this as well as cheesy naan bread. Also the chicken Katsu salad is so delicious omg! And very cheap. They have a delicious dressing also that they sell in the bottle. Note this place does not serve alcohol.

I prefer here compare to Curry House. Many toppings, and variation that you can choose even amount of rice. I love +1 spicy, spinach and natto curry.
