We stopped here for lunch on a long drive and will be making Cocuyos a regular part our travels! The chips and salsa were so fresh they were still warm! Our enchiladas were phenomenal - perfect balance of spice and acidity! Rice and beans were divine too. Service was attentive and quick. Can’t wait to come back!
We stopped here on our way back to Bay Area during our roadtrip. Its a small restaurant with indoor & outdoor seatings and a small bar. We went on Sunday afternoon (around 1pm) and was seated immediately.We ordered fried tilapia, pambasos with beef, and guacamole. The free salsa was delicious and good amount of spiciness - perfect compliment to the crispy chips. The lady who took our order was kind enough to play Cocomelon to entertain for my kid. It took quite some times to get our food but we didnt mind because everything tasted fresh & good! The portions were big for the price.My hubby got the fried tilapia. The fish was crispy and cooked perfectly. He liked the beans and said it was flavorful. He was super stuffed and had to take home half of it.I never had pambasos before so I didnt really know what to expect. My pambasos was huge and filled with lots of filling. The bread was actually dipped in sauce and then grilled which made it super flavorful! The beef inside was chopped into small pieces and yet so flavorful (and had a hint of smokiness). The sour cream brought brightness to the dish. I was also stuffed and had to brought half home.The guacamole was good and fresh. Overall, it tasted authentic and a good restaurant when youre in the area.
If your looking for authentic Mexican food and great service Cocuyos is a must go to. I have always had a great meal here. Yesterday I had the deep fried tilapia. It was delicious and so moist the fish fell off the bone. Usually, with fish I need to add sauces or lots of lemon but not in this case it was delicious without all those condiments. Plus, the corn tortillas taste like home made.

The flagship of any good Mexican restaurant is their chips and salsa. Fresh made chips tasted great and the salsa is honestly the best Ive had in a long time. The portions are really generous for the price. Their food is so fresh and delicious with friendly staff and an inviting atmosphere. Ill be stopping here for lunch every time I travel this direction for work.

We came across this gem of a Mexican restaurant as we were looking for a lunch spot in Soledad. The service is super warm and friendly. The food is superb - we ordered the Tilapia fish and Corn quesadillas with carne asada and both were delicious and generous. They also offered free nachos and salsa. Everything tasted homemade. We left with a full tummy and half of our orders to go. Will definitely visit again the next time we are around the area.
The food is authentic and the only place I go for Hispanic food. I always order 2 carne asada soft tacos with green salsa and lime. For my main dish, I get the chili relleno w/ rice, beans and corn tortilla. I have heard alot about how good cactus is but never had it in my 55 years until I ate here, mind blown!!!
Authentic and delicious! Generous portions too! We shared the enchilada lunch and a single taco and it was plenty for two people. Their salsa is some of the best I have had.
Came here for dinner with some coworkers and we could not stop raving about how delicious and authentic the food was! The sopes, tacos, and especially the molcajete were all amazing and the salsas were very flavorful! The server was very attentive and friendly, absolutely coming back next time I’m in town! Ohhh man just LOOK at that Michelada but its called something different on the menu but its soooo good. And the service was on point and the food was delicious and the little house they converted into the restaurant is so cute and just try them out its good fun and get yourself a Michelada-like drink like I did.Oh and another thing! They have a good outdoor eating area - you know how it is these days what with the covid - its out of the wind and nicely spaced apart with a nice little view of the street. We were there around 4 on a February day and it was nice on the porch but there is also a tent. The house faces south so you can imagine when the sun would hit if your table wasnt in the shade (which they also have some trees to sit under as well as the aforementioned tent).

This place is outstanding! A perfect stop if youre driving from Southern to Northern California. Excellent, excellent food and such delightful service. The carnitas burrito I had was fantastic and the salsa....so much better than your typical Mexican joint salsa. Real flavor, real kick, real good. Go here if youre even remotely in the area. Oh, and hint, their burgers are incredible.
Stopped here on our way back to the Bay Area, looking to get something to eat as we drive. The super burrito with grilled chicken and the veggie burrito were delicious! Their accompanying verde sauce, pickled carrots and jalapeños, and tortilla chips were flavorful and added texture and crunch. Service was excellent too! Saving this to my favorites for the next time!
Hungry for dinner and still an hour and a half from home, we felt adventurous and chose to try a new restaurant. So glad we did! The mixed fajitas were so tasty (bonus: the corn tortillas were soft and delicious) and the tacos al pastor were everything we hoped for. Everyone was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. Would highly recommend.

Great location, nice and convenient patio, very friendly and personable bilingual staff, and excellent food. We got asada and pastor burritos and a jugo de jamaica. The burritos were on point - probably best ones weve ever had. The staff was so nice they offered to deliver our take out order to our car and gave us a second jugo for free!
Food was okay, not great. Filled you up on just the extra lettuce, beans, and rice offered with each entree. Flautas were not flavorful and the tortilla was a bit hard. The chips and salsa offered to each table was sub-par: salsa a bit too spicy and tortilla chips un-salted and slightly hard. Didnt taste fresh.
Food was really fresh in an easy to miss corner restaurant (looked like a house) in a small town. The carne asada was thin but seasoned well and came with lots of rice, beans, fries and salad. The chilaquiles was made with crunchy nachos instead of tortillas, in case youre expecting the softer ones. It came with tater tots and eggs. The green sauce and cheese on top was good, the red sauce wouldve been spicier, which the waitress was kind enough to point out. Its probably the same spicy salsa that they give with the free chips. They only have bottled water but very accommodating with ice and limes. Highly recommend if youre in the area!
On the way back from Pinnacles National Park we stopped by Cocuyos for lunch. There was a slight mix-up in the order so we were given free tacos as compensation. The food was excellent and our server, Carla, was friendly and attentive. Without a doubt we will return to this restaurant.
We were passing thru on a road trip and found this place on yelp,5 stars is correct . To start this little gem of a restaurant sits in a small farm town, we ate outside it was pleasant temperature. The restaurant sits on corner with nice shade trees and a porch for dining outside inside looked nice street traffic was your basic for a Sunday quiet. One of my issues with restaurants is the menus (1) cleanliness these WERE clean not sticky YEA, (2) some restaurants have so many dishes and they stuff everything together were it becomes hard to read make menu bigger or cut back on dishes here not only was menu clean it was legible and for us who do not speak or read Spanish the menu is bilingual A+ Now our server Cathy was EXCELLENT maybe because it was a slow day but Cathy explained portion size our order was spot on Cathy was AWESOME made our meal that much better. The food .....IT WAS GREAT! salsa was very flavorful and it had SOME BITE YES THANK YOU, guacamole was yummy we ordered the 2 chili relleno plate to split between the wife and I we ordered Ala cart plates of Carne asada and carnitas would you agree or disagree with HOMEMADE CORN TORTILLAS . give it up for Cocuyos restaurant 👏 👏 👏 sorry I did not post pictures but if you happen to be on hwy 101 around soledad,ca check them out!
The super burrito is one of the best burritos we ever ate. Good size (neither big or small and it is quite stuffed), rich in flavours and well made (ingredients are mixed well, not packed). The bread is homemade. The tacos are also yummy (but burrito is better). Staff is friendly and helpful but a bit slow (they were too busy).

We had dinner here on the route to the Central Coast. Cocuyos (engl. Firefly) is a fantastic spot to stop over! Outside dining made it possible to have the meal on site during the pandemic. The food was fresh and delicious, the guacamole tasted like it had been made to order, so did the shrimp cocktail. My wifes tacos were delicious and our daughters chicken tenders were some of the best Ive had, with juicy chicken in crispy breading. Authentic and fresh. Highly recommended.

Excellent food and fantastic service! We were driving down the 101 from Monterey County back home to SLO, hoping to find a decent meal. Cocuyos did not disappoint! My fiance had the molcajete and I had the garlic shrimp, both were absolutely delicious. Best meal of our trip up north. Will definitely be stopping by next time we are heading up the 101 or heading into Pinnacles.

The food here was amazing!!!!! Not your run of the mill Mexican restaurant that you can find on every corner. The owner and staff are amazing also. If you want authentic Mexican food, this is the place to go! We took our food to go, but they have a very nice outdoor seating area.

My husband and I went for a drive to Soledad.My husband remembered a restaurant in a house, we found it, Cocos Restaurant.The food was delicious, authentic comida Mejicana, brought back memories.I had the Pombaso (?), my husband had the Chiles Rellenos, he said these were the best hes had. What I had was delicious and filling, I brought a Doggy Bag home.When in Soledad, make sure you stop by Cocuyos Restaurant, youll be so glad you did.

I did too, We found this cozy family restaurant just on side of the freeeway its hard to find a good place that offers flavor and variety but they got plenty of dishes to choose from and everything its delicious, and the prices very affordable Now every time we travel from Los Angeles to Central California we hold our hunger until we get to Cocuyos 😋.....From Los Angeles we travel savoring the rich and varied food that we enjoy every time we pass through Soledad, a very pleasant atmosphere and very affordable prices, the incredible treatment. It is our favorite restaurant in the area, not to mention that the flavor is authentic. It reminds me of the food that is served at the market in Mi Pueblo 😋

2023-07-14 21:33:47A gem of a place we came across on our way to Santa Cruz.Great service and Ambiance.Delicious food! Everything from the tortillas to pickles are freshly and deliciously made. The price is very reasonable. Glad we were able to eat there. They make their soups fresh order by order so it will take 25 minutes. Too bad we were in a rush to get back on the road. I know it would have been yummy!

2023-09-06 17:27:32Finally stopped in to see what all the 5 star rating were all about . 4 pm Tuesday place was empty. I was the only customer, so I sat down and was greeted by Alice she said she would be my server and the cook. OK, she did not speak English, and I know a few words in Spanish, no big deal. First chips and salsa tiny bowl average at best cold unsalted chips. 2 tacos arrived carnitas and Carne asada. Homemade tortillas 3.25 reasonable flavor again average nothing special. Shrimp enchiladas main corse again nothing special Shrimp had no seasonings red sauce very spicy and only on the tortillas loaded up with lots of fresh lettuce onions and cheese. It looks impressive but lacking flavor dry and just spicy .I had to ask for guacamole and again tiny bowl and just average. I left full but underwhelmed, I wanted to give 5 stars, but honestly, I couldnt do it. The best thing about this place is the prices are very reasonable however the food did not live up to the hype.

Their food are fresh and tasty, so I hope you can come to have a nice meal here. My husband told me he will always remember this restaurant. What a great Mexican restaurant:)

2023-04-22 23:01:30Nice selection of breakfast 🥣 and lunch dishes, tried the Pambaso (well decorated) and Sopes, both were pretty good. Salsa had a small kick to it. Prices were reasonable. Service was good, food arrived very quickly after ordering. Parking on street was fine.

2023-07-03 01:33:31Small one, off the main path … but worth it. Excellent food, nice and quick service, cheap enough. This is a sit down place, but a small place (25-30 people seating is my guess)

2023-10-01 05:27:15First time there today on our way out of pinnacles national Park. Looks like it used to be a house? But makes for a cool setting. Good outdoors area to sit and enjoy the good weather that today offered, though my son wanted to sit inside and watch the soccer game. I was impressed with the food. I loved their salsa too. Definitely recommend going.

2023-05-02 02:40:27I had a full delicious vegan meal without any ordering hassle! The vegetarian enchiladas were so good, they’re stuffed with potatoes which was a welcome first for me, I just asked for no cheese or sour cream and no cheese on the refried beans. It’s a really cute place, it felt homey and the service was good.

My kids 1yr and 2 years old were both screaming and pitching a fit bc they couldnt get up and run around and instead of giving side ways looks like most places we go someone came out of the kitchen and said they have amazing lungs and sang for them in Spanish they were thrilled and he was amazing I really wish I would have recorded it. Thank you
