The feel of a converted dinner. Mostly booths with some free standing tables. Beer selection was decent. The chicken sandwich was really good (pulled chicken with tasty slaw). Others had the (huge) burger and gave it an A+. My wife had the Blackened Fish Sandwich...she wasnt crazy about it, tasted bland. But thats not enough for me to knock a star off.

I liked the vibe of this place. The art on the walls was cool. The tables also had different designs on them, which I thought was unique. Unfortunately, the food was just ok. I had the Grilled Chicken Teriyaki. It wasnt bad, but it also wasnt delicious. Their fries were good. My boyfriend got the Cruz Burger, and he didnt love it. Our waitress was nice enough. We didnt have much interaction, other than her taking our order. But thats not a negative point for me because I prefer to just enjoy my time with my company. She came around for refills and thats all we needed lol

Great chill vibes, good happy hour, good attentive service. The brussel sprouts are amazing unlike anything I’ve ever had. I really enjoyed the yummy slaw accompanied w the chicken skewers. You can tell the peanut butter sauce is homemade. I would have preferred them a little more charred and grilled but otherwise delicious. I love chill Lowkey places with great food. A dope little gastropub and the HH wine was delicious. I have red and white.

Came here for the fully loaded Bloody Mary, which was a meal in itself with a grilled cheese sandwich and 2 wings on it. Ate the blackened fish sandwich which was delicious. The smoked white fish appetizer was also very good.

Really great food! Service was great and attentive.Outdoor seating has fire pit option and is dog friendly!Generally a little too heavy on the cabbage/onion/ginger. So I dont think the avacado toast is worth the price but tasty anyway.Tacos were also heavy on the cabbage but the meat perfectly cooked.Wings did not have a flavor option. It was like a sweet glaze. Reminded me of Christmas ham??? Maybe? Anyway, not to my preference but quality of meat was great.

Food here is incredible! Seriously, you cannot go wrong. Everything on the menu is delish. The sauces that come with each dish are so complimentary, the fish and meats are phenomenal. The veggies are all local as well as the beer and wine. I cannot rave about this place enough!!! Thank you for such a great experience! I look forward to coming back again and sitting at another table. All the tables are painted pieces of art and are from local artists! This place has got the heart of Santa Cruz embedded into it!

My wife and I came here on a Sunday around 1pm. They werent very busy and we sat outside in their little outdoor patio. The service was great and the food was awesome. I had the blackened fish sandwhich with salad and my wife had the vegan poke bowl. They were both great! Only recommendation on the poke was to have more seaweed as opposed to being a garnish. I also had a Tanuki Cider and it was great! Apparently they are a local company and I had never heard of them. We will be back!

We stopped by here for brunch because we didnt want to wait at another restaurant for a table. We walked in and we were seated right away. The service here was friendly and quick, the breakfast was delicious and filling. Cruz and taps opens at 11am so its the perfect brunch stop before heading to the beach or wandering around town.

The basa is simply AMAZING!! It is too good to miss. Highly highly recommended. BTW, I didnt feel hungry at all when I started but I finished half of the basa in 15 seconds.We also ordered the ribs. The ribs were ok but not impressive but the mashed potatoes were great.

Heard this place opened up pretty recently, decided to check it out without really knowing what to expect.Found all I needed here; Vegan Poke, Tomato Soup, and a Michelada. A little pricy, but very much worth it. Our waitress was also very friendly and made the experience that much better. All in all, enjoyed this place a lot!

Its so exciting to have a new restaurant in Santa Cruz, and an amazing one at that. Braised short ribs came recommended and was really really good. Perfectly tender and nicely seasoned and sauced. The asparagus and potatoes were good too.

This place was a fantastic surprise! A must go. We had the ribeye steak with Mongolian BBQ sauce. It was cooked perfectly rare and so tender. The mashed potatoes were almost as good as my moms. Fabulous service!

Sadly the food wasnt good. The papaya salad was vinegary and boring and the added chicken was rubbery thigh meat. I asked for no cilantro and it came loaded with it. The server said a quick sorry and we didnt see them again for 20 minutes. The chicken tacos were tasteless and we had to ask for the salad that cam with it..had to ask for drinks..and ketchup..and the bill..you get the point..we would have ordered desert but having to flag the server down repeatedly left us feeling like it wasnt worth the hassle and got our check and left.

The place itself is decent looking - I imagine it’s a nice bar. The beer selection is okay. They have a TIPA which is always great!We had the tacos and all 3 different kinds. They were unfortunately a bit dry. The taco shells were def. Store bought and not the good kind. The meat itself was decent but also didn’t seem home made. Neither did the coke slaw or dressing. It’s unfortunate as it would take so little to make this place so good!Service was great!Tip for the owner; make your own salsa, see if you can narrow down the meat to 2 kinds and then make it yourself. Buy some slightly nicer tacos :-)

This has just become my favorite restaurant in town. My family has been there twice in the last week because we liked it so much the first time! Both times it has been an excellent experience with great food and service. Weve had the burger, the fantastic pulled pork tacos with the salad (with a very light and tasty citrus dressing), Brussel sprouts, and the fries. We tried all of the desserts and loved them all. We ordered some of the same things the second time because it was hard to forget them.Let me say that mine is a family of foodies, so this is high praise for Cruz Kitchen. Cant wait to go again. We want to give the Brunch a try, introduce more family and friends to this place, and take our company there next time they are in town.

The service was spectacular, ambiance was great, food was the best we have had in California yet!!Everything from the fries, to the entrees, to the dessert was absolutely perfect. Highest possible recommendation! The food, service and prices are great. Not just good, GREAT! I got the ribeye both times and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare both times. The price of the ribeye with sides is probably too low for what you get. It’s also a great place to bring your kids, the servers and kitchen were able to make modifications for my fussy kids.

We wanted to like this place, but it was uphill work. We got the pulled pork and short rib tacos, veggie burger, Cruz burger, and kid’s bacon cheeseburger. Pluses: the cilantro on the burgers and the kids menu with teriyaki fish and chicken. House veggie burger is ok; noticeable celery seed seasoning. Minuses: everything else. Everything was swimming in the overpoweringly spicy house mayo sauce. All the burgers came with American cheese on them - there are no other choices given, and boy that American was bad as they come. Fries were heavily salted. Atmosphere is largely still the Saturn Cafe, that is, a bit gloomy and down-at-heel. Just really expensive for a meal that was close to inedible, we left a lot on our plates. For the price point and the California brew pub vibe they are going for, the menu needs an overhaul. You could make a go of it by asking for the sauce on the side and hold the scary American cheese, but Lupulo or Betty’s Eat Inn down the street are probably going to do you better.

I was hoping for a nice meal. I was disappointed. Two thirds of the menu is alcoholic beverages. Hash browns are store bought pucks overcooked to the point they crumble when you pick them up. The gravy tasted like sheet rock plaster and had approximately the same texture. The iced tea tasted like it had been brewed last week. The best thing on the plate was the ketchup.

In all fairness theyre was a private party and we got in a soon as we could. The braised rib was good but tiny. The wings were just ok. Menu doesnt have many choices. The staff was excellent and attentive. Beer was cold for me, warm glass for the Mrs. Tons of potential. Nice interior. Bathrooms way too complicated to enter. Better menu, colder beer, larger portions, especially for what you pay, would be a real winner.

We are in town for the annual car show and we were really hungry. Typically I never pick a restaurant under 4.6 stars. This one had a 4.7, but should be a 5.0. Excellent service and food. The cruz burger is excellent and has a Mexican flare. Also ordered a Paloma mix drink. Was heavy on the alchol...BONUS!!! We will definitely be back! Art in the bathroom is amazing!

Unfortunately the food we got looked nothing like all the posted pictures. The tacos were terrible. One taco had a single, tiny piece of spare ribs and about 2 cups of slaw. The pulled pork was very dry and also had a heaping mound of slaw. The ribeye was cooked well but was slathered in bbq sauce, which made it way too salty and sweet.

Went here for first time, immediately fell in love with the different personality table tops. Friendly staff, good beers on tap. We ate the Short Ribs, Ceviche, and Blackened Fish sando w fries. Just absolutely BOMB! The texture flavor balance of the ribs and both fish sando and ceviche brought us to moaning level. Sunday lunchtime : place was empty and ready to seat 8 of us (that should have been the first red flag) waitress was very nice so no issues there. Placed order and it literally took an hour to get food and they brought items out one by one …. I ordered French toast with a side of bacon…. French toast came out and I was done with them by the time my bacon made it out. I asked how many cooks were in back and they said two. At that point she apologized. Not once were we rude as it wasn’t her fault. About the food, nothing to write home about. It was cold when it arrived to table and we’ll just not good in our opinion. Then they automatically applied gratuity to the bill.

This is a first class top of the line restaurant that is easy to miss. The chef is incredible and the dishes wow and surprise you with their quality, e.g. the white fish and the brussel sprouts - yumyumyum.. And the price is very affordable. Service is wonderful. We finally got to enjoy a meal at Cruz recently and it was so worth the wait! I ordered the rib eye and it was the best steak Ive had in a long time, plus it came with fresh veggies and these amazing garlic mashed potatoes I coulda eaten like 4 servings of. We sat at a table with this amazing painting of a pirate ship and full moon and it was so fun just looking at all the details. I guess all the tables have unique tops, I think I saw one with garbage pail kids lol. Ill have to bring the kids and sit at that table next time. I will definitely be going back, next time I will be trying the fish and maybe the chicken wing appetizers I was eyeing up from the table next to us.Edit: I dont usually edit reviews but we finally went back last night for a second time to eat at Cruz and I ordered the fish tacos this time and they were so good! we were there during happy hour and I saw a bunch of warriors fans in there having dinner before the game. We really enjoyed the food. We ordered several wings, cross type and teriyaki. The teriyaki ones were really delicious. We also ordered 3 braised short ribs and we were very surprised. The meat fell apart just with the fork. A huge reaction of meat, boneless, with incredible flavor, with a bed of mashed potatoes and some vegetables that were also very tasty.Really recommended.

A unique restaurant in California. The interior is not very special, but the taste of the food definitely is. I did not encounter these flavors during a tour through California. The staff is also very friendly and the dishes are well priced.

The shape of this restaurant is quite good in an arc. The food selection is good and the taste is good, but the portion is a bit small. The salad is extra and the ribs are very small. I don’t think it’s worth it.
