2023-09-28 23:51:46Great place to eat! I love everything here. The noodles are 5 stars. The broth has loads of MSG, which isn’t great, but i avoid it. Pretty overpriced, but expected. The pan fried gyoza is good, but the pork inside is totally frozen, and not fresh.

2023-08-05 19:17:43Our friend selected this restaurant for its gluten-free options. But due to her celiac disease, she couldnt have a lot of the items. The gluten-free dishes still utilized chicken bouillon which has gluten in it.The regular kitchen manager wasnt here to answer specific questions and they dont have a dedicated fryer. This would not be the place to go for celiacs.Overall the space is nice and the waiter was really trying his best to answer questions and learn. Also it would be good to have gluten-free soy sauce. That will be an easy addition to add flavor to the dishes that needed it to be full gluten-free and also see if the constarch is gluten-free as well.We were the only ones here and it also took a long time for the rest of the food to come out.

2023-05-27 00:27:43Went there for dinner on a Thursday night at around 6pm with a group of friends. When we walked in the manager greeted us and was very welcoming. Since it was early it wasnt too busy so we were seated right away. The interior is very new with modern design and the vibe was very relaxed. There were a lot of families out to dinner with their kids. Our server Anthony was very accommodating, friendly and attentive. We ordered the XLB, short rib dan mien, dungeness crab fried rice and the 3 cup chicken dish which came with a side of rice. Since this place is a more modern and elevated approach to Chinese food I will say that the servings were smaller and more expensive then the Chinese food I am used to but I feel like it makes up for it with the service and the more careful approach they have to preparing the food. That said my favorite dish was the crab fried rice. It was delicious with many pieces of real crab in it. The dan mien was a little sweet for my taste and the XLB was good, tasted very much like crab since we got the pork and crab. Something that I would point out for improvement would be that the XLB was not really hot when it was served to us, but other than that I had a very good experience at this location. I would definitely come again!

2022-12-06 04:01:35I know about Dan from the one in Playa Vista, I think I like both but prefer this branch better. In terms of the restaurant setting, this one is very spacious, clean and well-lit (not too bright nor dark). 👌 Customer service was top-notch, very polite and knowledgeable about the menu. I much prefer that the waiters/waitresses know if there are onions on any given dish, and this branch didnt disappoint. Thank you for training your employees well. 🌟 In terms of pricing, I thought they did price their dishes fairly, so cheers to that!Anyhow, its time to talk about the food! These are what we ordered on our last visit (I will state if I recommend the dish or not:- Dan Dan Noodles: flavorful, noodle textures are chewy and tasty, mushrooms and steak are juicy. (Recommended)- Popcorn Chicken: Good appetizer, crispy and flavorful. The sauce taste kind of like honey mustard mixed with mayo? Yummy! (Recommended)- Pea Sprouts w Garlic: This is my dish of the day. Pea Sprouts are hard to find (in grocery stores as well as restaurants), so I was hoping this would be great and it didnt disappoint! (Recommended)-Shrimp Fried Rice: What makes a good rice plate? Not the soggy ones. Thankfully these arent, very flavorful and I enjoyed the shrimp! I enjoyed their fried rice so much that when there were 2 spoons worth of fried rice left I still asked for to-go box for it. 😏 (Recommended)- Pork and shrimp dumplings: Taste pretty good. My girlfriend loved it. I just personally find dumplings to be alright. However if you love fried dumplings, this is awesome! (Recommended for dumpling lovers)Overall, my dining experience here was great and if you happen to be shopping at the Manhattan village, you must try this restaurant and then you would be coming for more! 😁

I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was very fresh, served family style and made to order. The waitstaff was very informative and helpful in the suggestion of entrees we should try. This was my first dining experience at Dan Modern; an excellent dining experience. I will most certainly return.

2022-03-23 19:23:59This place is nice overall, but not excellent. First of all, there is no beer in this restaurant. Second, they were out of jasmine tea during our visit. Third, the cup with another tea was dirty on the outside. Lastly, oolong tea at this location tasted weird, very different from the oolong tea we are accustomed to. Since the place opened recently, their interior is very stylish and modern. They have nice take-out packages, also their dining area and entrance are separated. Food-wise this place is okay, but not the best. Shrimp da mein was delicious, the best dish here. The noodles were very well prepared. Shrimp/chicken soup dumplings were quite good, but the meat had some weird spice. Short rib fried rice was very good. Pork/shrimp crispy dumplings were served in an interesting way, but tasted worse than steamed dumplings. Chicken noodle soup was plain and could use some spices and salt. Oxtail soup was fine, but soups in general are mediocre here. The ingredients were all fresh. Overall, we have a good experience here. The manager provided some complimentary appetizers during our visit, which is a great touch for a newer restaurant. The waitress was friendly and attentive, came to our table several times.

2022-09-05 20:46:10What a great find! We were craving Chinese food and searched on Google Map for a Chinese restaurant near me as we were driving along Sepulveda.Voila! dan modern chinese is located inside the Manhattan Village Shopping Center. Park in the covered parking structure ( furthest south from Rosecrans) and you are right there!Beautifully modern decor. Clean bathrooms. Very quick and attentive service by Guillermo. He was working alone and was helpful when we told him it was our first time there and gave us suggestions. My husband ordered the 3 Cup Chicken :soy sauce, sesame oil, chili, thai basil which comes with your choice of white or brown rice. It was very flavorful especially with the Thai Basil and the shredded fresh ginger provided at the table. He said he would definitely order this again.I ordered the Short Rib Dan Mein:Handmade thick noodles, snow pea leaves, shiitake mushrooms, garlic sauce. This was sooooooooooooooooo good! I love their thick chewy noodles with the short ribs and mushrooms!I had ice jasmine tea and my husband, Sapporo Beer. We were both so happy to find this gem and to learn there are many locations in the LA area.Next time I will try their dumplings~Thank you Guillermo for your attentive service!

2022-12-30 00:39:08It is difficult to tell this place is a worth to try Chinese restaurant in the Great LA area. If you are into DingTaiFu style Taiwaness dishes it probably will suit you. We went on a Thursday Lunch hour after the Christmas holiday and it is little chaotic with only two or three staffs running around serving all tables. It took us more then fourth minutes to get our fried rice. The pork 小笼包 was made fresh and Crab fried rice was very good with plenty of good quality Crab meat in it. Although the 煎饺 were made out of wonton wraps instead of dumpling wrap and the fillings tast exactly the same as 小笼包 (charge extra dollar for pan frying)

2022-08-17 21:19:59This place is amazing! I came here on a weekday, by myself for the first time, I’m young and have never tried solo dining and I was very nervous about it. The host and the server were both incredible though. It’s been a couple weeks since I ate here so I don’t remember their names sadly. They were both young, 18-21 I’m guessing and both girls. The server complimented my overalls. I informed her that I have dietary restrictions and she made sure to ask if the vegetables were okay in the plates that I got. And she made sure that the cooks wouldn’t add the ingredients I couldn’t eat. I really appreciated that since it could make me really sick if I ate certain veggies!I ordered the pickled cucumbers, the shrimp Dan mein noodles, and the pork & shrimp XLB. All of them were incredible. The cucumbers had a great level of spice. I was worried it would taste like pickles since it’s “pickled” but it didn’t, just had a vinegary taste so I really enjoyed them. The noodles were amazing!! If you eat here, you have to order them. I didn’t finish all of the noodles so I brought them home and they reheat well. And the XLB were super good also. Great broth, the filing was great, and you could tell they’re made in house. All the items I got were big portions, very hot, and not over or under seasoned! So long story short, the staff is incredible. The food is insanely good. I can’t recommend this place enough! I really enjoyed my dining experience here and I hope if you read this review, you have the same great experience!

2022-07-18 00:16:07Came here for a working lunch with a couple of other colleagues on a Thursday around noon and were seated immediately (no reservations needed). Indoor dining only. Free garage parking available. Credit cards accepted.Food is family-style sharing. Definitely get the short rib dan mein - the noodles are thick and chewy, which are my two favorite adjectives when it comes to noodles. The pan fried and pan fried crispy dumplings were different in that the latter had a flatter surface area so there was more crisp. They do have vegetarian options. The crispy green beans are also a good accompaniment. The xiao long bao was alright; not enough of the broth inside the dumplings stayed. The iced jasmine tea is really refreshing (and unsweetened).
