Excellent stay, super convenient walk (even in ski gear) to the Village and Gondola. Easy walk to dining and shopping. Hot tub was excellent after skiing. Rooms well appointed with fresh coffee, chemex, Dyson hair dryer and small kitchenette. Food was great from Maggie’s, staff welcoming all around. We appreciated the water refill station and bottle of wine on arrival! Gym quality and appointments were a welcome surprise as well!

This was an amazing stay, surprised my wife for her 30th and she was absolutely in love with this place. The customer service was exceptional all around. Their rooms are above and beyond with quality interior design. Glad to have picked to stay at Desolation and will for sure be coming back in the future.
The Desolation hotel is more than a hotel, it’s a home away from home even for your fur babies! From the moment you drive up, you can tell they took the time to carefully choose the details, but also to build around nature, which is so important in Tahoe. Once we went to check in, we were greeted by friendly faces and that was just the first of many friendly interactions. The staff at the Desolation hotel truly cares about their guests. You can tell the staff treats each other like family (came to learn a lot of them are family), but they treat their guest like family too! This was an important factor when thinking about a review. When on vacation, it elevates the experience when you’re made to feel truly welcomed and cared for. Now let’s talk about the two story suits. The shock and awe you get at every turn starts as soon as you walk up the first flight of stairs into the living room. The “wow that’s nice” begins with seeing the washer and drawer in the first closet, the half bath, and the spacious living room with a kitchenette. Your excitement grows when you realize the kitchenette is fully functioning with dishes, spices and more extravagant items a phone call away. Once you make your way passed the flat screen tv and couch, you find yourself on the first patio that is equipped with a fun swing chair, 4 person table, heaters and a fire place that is also a window for the living room. Already stunned and not knowing how things could get better you walk up the second set of stairs into the hallway of the bed and bath. The bathroom takes your breath away! The walk in rain shower with a handheld shower head as well, for those who like an extra way to rinse off. The massive bath tub for two with jets, and the true “oh wow” moment, discovering the Dyson hair dryer that comes in every suit. Once you get over the shock of the bathroom you are brought to the bedroom where there are sunroof panels, another window fire place, wireless charging stations for your devices (phones/watches), and a safe in the closet. As you move onto the second patio you find a really cool feature of a soaking tub, another table that seats 4 and yes this patio also has heaters. This suit could have been where I spent my entire vacation with all the luxury aspects, but luckily I did venture over to their restaurant, Maggie’s. Maggie’s has some of the best food I have experienced. I am a picky eater and sometimes can be hung up on food items that are unfamiliar to me, but I’m so glad I got out of my own head. From the New York steak that was perfectly cooked to my liking with the potatoes and asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, the venison accompanied with potatoes and vegetables, the various appetizers that were ordered and devoured (many of which I had no clue what they were I just ate them and my taste buds were happy), to the very delicate and delicious hand crafted desserts. I’m a huge sweets person so knowing they had many desserts to choose from was the icing on the cake (no pun intended). They had a chocolate option with a touch of marshmallow, a feel good but tart options in the blueberry cake, and an option I normally wouldn’t have gone for but so glad I did with a warm carmel pear served on a pastry with a side of ice cream. It was hard to choose which was more my favorite. The menu had so many other amazing options, and the best part is the menu changes, I think seasonally, so if you go in summer your options will be different by the time you return in winter. The hotel is also in walking distance to the main strip of Tahoe and the casinos, if you like to walk or a quick little drive if you prefer. I could go on and on about the Desolation hotel, but I want you to truly experience just how amazing it is for yourself. You will not be disappointed!
The hotel is new and beautiful. The rooms were extremely clean and well stocked, even the kitchen had everything we could potentially want! The bed was super comfortable, the heated floors in the bathroom were great.(Down one star for our ground floor view of the neighboring hotel and street- we had wanted to use the outdoor tub, but even with bathing suits it felt too open with our view)The lobby staff were friendly and helpful. We felt welcomed and taken care of. Maggie’s restaurant upstairs was delicious and the staff were all extremely friendly and attentive. The food was great!We soaked in the hot tub, and that was very relaxing and fun, especially on cold days where there was no snow, and the gondolas were closed.The location is very convenient and parking was easy. Walkable to both heavenly village and the beach, even with our four year old.
We absolutely loved our stay at Desolation Hotel. It was the perfect respite with great amenities and thoughtfully designed spaces. The location right between the lake and Heavenly village was ideal. Everyone on staff was so friendly and responsive which made our trip exceed expectations. We can’t wait to return!
Desolation Hotel provides an experience to match the beauty of Tahoe. Located in a highly walkable neighborhood to all of South Lake Tahoe’s amenities, DH is a destination of its own. The beautifully appointed townhouse rooms offer bonus features that let you know you have arrived somewhere special. The care and welcome each staff person gives a guest reaffirms just that, DH is a special place.
Desolation Hotel is a spectacular property but slightly missed the mark for our 1st stay. The sauna was out-of-order and that was one of the main reasons we booked the hotel. Also, construction started directly above our room at 7am which was less than ideal. Id absolutely return as this is stunning property with a great staff but I left slightly disappointed.
This is a wonderful place to stay in lake tahoe. The location is close to state line and walking distance to shops and restaurants.We loved the bed! The town house style room 3B was amazing. Having your own garage is beyond cool. The room was over the top with everything you need and more. The shower was so cool and there are two bathrooms. Everything was perfect.Staff is responsive, helpful and friendly. I cant recommend this place more... Its perfect in every way.
Where to start? Looked like a really nice place from the google reviews, but I’d say my expectations were far exceeded during my stay here. Beautiful rooms full of high tech gadgets. Wonderful and very helpful staff. Unbelievable food at the in house restaurant, Maggie’s. One of the best places I’ve experienced.
I wish every hotel stay was as great as this one. Not only is the hotel beautifully designed with a Scandinavian feel but the smart technology and luxury appliances from the stove top to the Dyson hairdryer were much appreciated. We can’t wait to return!

A hidden gem! This newly built boutique hotel is 10/10! We have been here 4 nights- one more to go! Its small and mighty with no detail left out. Its modern and well appointed. We have used the heated pool and hot tub each and everyday. Casinos, base camp and shopping all in close walking proximity. The communication text system is fabulous and they are always very responsive. Maggie’s is the restaurant on site and again small but this does not take away from the most magnificient meal Ive ever had. The porkchop was out of this world and I’m a foodie! Chet one of the founders is often seen checking on the prooerty and has created the most beautiful property!!! Firepits and infrared heat lamps make sitting around the pool in 41 degrees absolutely wonderful and relaxing!! We love it all and will be back soon!!!
Our dog loved the townhome style room and patios.Amenities were great, and the dinner takeout from Maggie’s was delicious after our long drive. Really appreciate the convenient charging in the attached garage. The staff team was also super helpful and responsive via texts.Only con could be potentially a more thorough cleaning before check in as we saw a few stray hairs in bathroom and the bathrobes.Overall 10/10 would visit again and already recommended to our friends.

We live in Tahoe and needed a last minute place to stay while our home was under construction. What we got was an amazing vacation that felt like hundreds of miles away. The staff is extremely upbeat and accommodating, the rooms are luxurious and the amenities (sauna, jacuzzi, heated pool, fitness center) are all so clean and beautifully designed. To top it off, Maggies is by far the best restaurant in Tahoe. We didnt want to leave!
So beautiful, immaculate, and comfortable. Everyone in our family loved staying in the townhouse including our 6 year old daughter and dog. There was plenty of indoor/outdoor space in the townhouse with two levels to enjoy adult time after the kiddos bedtime. We loved that our dog got to be with us everywhere, including poolside and inside the restaurant. Already planning to return. Everything is perfect but the highlights were the pool, Maggie’s, fireplaces, sauna, private decks, private soaking tubs, and the amazing staff who accommodated every request. Can’t beat the location- walking distance to Lake Tahoe (private beach access) and Heavenly Village. Worth every penny to enjoy an elevated experience in Tahoe!

Wonderful hotel, great staff, and great location. Across the road from the Heavenly gondola and only a short walk to the private beach (which you have access to as a guest). Maggie’s, the onsite restaurant was delicious for dinner, and offers room service delivery which we used for breakfast every day of our stay.
Loved the stay, staff was always incredibly helpful and friendly. Accommodations were fabulous. The beds very comfortable. Loved having a full size kitchen. Pool was lovely, and beach passes were great. Only constructive feedback is that there was a small amount of trash left over from previous guest in the garage, upstairs toilet was not flushing properly, and the upstairs AC constantly leaked. But I would definitely recommend the property. The townhouse room was very clean and very nicely decorated. I will be coming back!

Rooms are very well designed and furnished nicely. Pool and hot tub are nice and kept at the right temperature. This is my go to hotel when staying in South Lake Tahoe.
Best hotel in South Lake Tahoe! I was blown away by how friendly all of the staff was right from the moment I checked in. My room was unbelievable! I loved the decor in my room and the small personal touches in the room made the experience truly special. I really enjoyed the bath tub on the balcony! Lastly, the hot tub and pool area was amazing. There is even a bar right next to the pool, which makes it great to lounge out there all day. I will definitely be back soon!
My boyfriend and I had a perfectly splendid time at this cute and luxurious boutique hotel 🏨 during our 4 day getaway from San Jose. I loved how welcoming, friendly and attentive the staff was to us! They had a texting service so I could reach out to them whenever I needed such as replenishment for bath toiletries 🧴 etc. Our last night our heater was getting maintenance so they put a small heater in our room. We dined at Maggie’s restaurant located on 3rd floor. The waitress was okay; I wish they offered lunch entrees during dinner too but the chicken and steak was yummy. Overall I loved how new, clean, modern, cozy our room felt; so many small attention to detail. I even got a bottle of 🍷 for my birthday when we checked in 🥰🥹Highlights🌟 free laundry 🧺 room for us to wash our dirty clothes at the end of our trip🌟 nice heated pool, jacuzzi,🌟 loved the Dyson blow dryer, a first I’ve seen! Lovely detail🌟 heated bathroom floor was a plus 🚽🌟 outdoor tub 🛀 was beautiful and a heated on our balcony was a nice touch!🌟 kitchenette had nice condiments, plates, cups, pots/pans, utensils, a beautiful stove; was just missing olive oil/butter for us to cook our meat hehe 🙃🌟 🧖🏻♀️ we booked a time to use the sauna, they had a nice shower next to it. I felt so relaxedImprovements💖water pressure on showe head could be better but the handheld shower head was fine!💖more shampoo, conditioner and body wash would be nice but we brought our own so it worked out 🙂

We stayed in one of the multi-level townhouses and it was incredible. Bedroom on the top floor with a walk out balcony and a soaking tub. The main floor living area worked out great, with a fold-out couch to give the kids a spot to sleep while mommy and I lived our best life upstairs. The pool and hot tub is a great hang out spot and being salt water instead of chlorine, you can feel good spending time in it. All in all, wonderful place to stay.
This is an incredible hotel in South Lake Tahoe. So clean and inviting. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. The architecture and decor are stunning, with no detail spared. The spaces are perfectly laid out, amenities are great, and the food at Maggies restaurant was delicious. I cant say enough about this hotel. I would highly recommend and most definitely will be back!
This place is like a little piece of heaven. The property is gorgeous and it was hard to leave. The staff were so welcoming and were messaging me ahead of my arrival to ensure I had a smooth check in and to see if they could answer any questions ahead of time or assist me in any way. A welcome glass of champagne ended up being a welcome bottle of champagne that I enjoyed in the soaking tub on the third floor balcony of the townhome. The food at Maggie’s was amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough and I really hope I can go back soon.
I have never been to such an amazing well thought out hotel like this one. The staff were incredible the rooms were perfect I have zero complaints merely because there is nothing to complain about. I stay in a lot of hotel across America and this is by far the BEST. Dont waste your time looking for any other hotel in lake tahoe this is the one! Jess and staff are the greatest ❤️
Great accommodations, good location and service. The only downside was that underneath the bed looked like it had not been cleaned in a while. There was a pair of ski goggles and a single slipper that was probably missing its friend. I dropped something that rolled under the bed and contemplated leaving it there because of the mess!
WOW. Amazing, incredible, wonderful. I had a short visit (I really wish I could have stayed longer). I was amazed at the attention to detail. The room was sparkling clean and so warm and inviting. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were what you would expect staying at a 5 star RESORT. It was very easy to navigate the electronics and the room key feature was very cool! The check in process was quick and easy, and the front desk employee (Bethany) had amazing customer service. I ordered from the on-site restaurant Maggies, a few times and WOW, delicious and reasonably priced. It is very obvious that the owner of this beautiful property really took the time to make it very special for all of their guests. I 100% recommend this beautiful and will come back! If Desolation Hotel were a restaurant, it would be Michelin rated. It’s a boutique hotel that spared no expense in the design and build, but truly shines in all the little details. From a welcome beverage (we chose prosecco), to the car charges at every spot, heaters on the decks, high end fixtures, Frette linens, fireplaces, amazing bathrooms…I could go on and on. We loved it so much, we added a day to our stay, just because. Room was super clean, staff was very friendly, and we were truly happy. We will definitely be back.
The stay at this hotel was incredible. The front staff is so sweet and accommodating (all of them - we had seen 5-6 different people up there during our stay). The sauna and cold shower is so nice. You just go and grab a key from up front and it’s all yours for 45 minutes. The tub on the balcony was great, we sat out there while it was snowing and we were so warm and cozy. The decor is simple and stunning. Bed was comfortable. Either side of the bed had an iPhone and watch charger. Bathroom floors are heated which was an added bonus. Loved having the kitchenette! Free laundry on site as well after your walks and hikes so you don’t have to pack your dirty clothes back up! I really can’t complain. Everything was superb. The hotel is also in a prime location!
Most amazing experience at this boutique hotel. Beds so comfy, pool and hot tub area beautiful, so many techno amenities for your use. Love the balconies to relax on or have your coffee in the morning. Staff was super friendly and helpful. The shower and products to use were top level! Walking distance to all of South Lake Tahoe Heavenly shops, restaurants and casinos as well as the Lake. Simply the best experience!
Such an incredible stay! I came here with three friends for a relaxing girls trip and it was absolutely perfect. The rooms were beautiful, incredibly comfortable, and excellently stocked. Everything felt so luxurious, especially the soaking tub on the balcony. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We felt very taken care of! Maggie’s restaurant was amazing - such a creative and delicious menu. The location is also super convenient. Just a short walk to the Heavenly village where there are many shops and restaurants. I can’t wait to come back here and could not recommend this hotel more!!
I had such a wonderful time staying at Desolation hotel. This is a gorgeous brand new hotel right in the heart of South Lake Tahoe. I had my dog with me, and the staff made us both feel so welcomed! The amenities in the room were so luxurious. I loved our tub on our private balcony. The hotel is walking distance to everything including the gondola at heavenly. All of the staff were so nice and accommodating. I really enjoyed going in the outdoor hot tub after a long day on the mountain!!! I will definitely be back.
It is rare to find a place that is nicer than the pictures and the descriptions. We really enjoyed the stay, and it is super close to the gondola, restruants, ski rental etc. Very modern, and well maintained.

Wow! What a weekend we had at the Desolation Hotel. I knew we were going to love this place for our girls’ trip, but I completely underestimated how much I wouldn’t even want to leave. It was like our own spa retreat all steps away from the adventures and activities of Heavenly and South Lake Tahoe.We stayed in a Granite Suite and El Dorado Townhome which was perfect for our group. The rooms were so well appointed with kitchen tools, chargers, speakers, luxurious beds, and comfortable common spaces to hang out in. The staff left no need unmet; quickly supporting us with reservations, recommendations, and even personal requests like humidifiers for the room. They were so warm and always greeted you with a smile.We took advantage of Desolation Hotel’s amazing amenities every single day. From the heated pool to hot tub, private sauna and gorgeous gym, to the coffee and tea in the lobby each morning – it was all bliss!Do not miss dining at Maggie’s. We had our best meals there. We even hurried up another dinner out so we could make it back to Maggie’s in time for our last round of delicious desserts Desolation Hotel is cannot be beat for any occasion in any season. We are already planning our trip back!
We stopped in Tahoe for the night on our 14-hour drive home to Boise. The pictures of the property looked great so we rolled the dice and booked one of the townhome rooms. It was absolutely perfect. The rooms are beautifully designed, spacious, and have everything you could want (amazing bedding, freezing cold AC, phone chargers, TWO bathrooms, huge towels, TWO balconies, TWO fire places, a private garage, and a million more things). They got everything right, down to the smallest detail. It was honestly one of the nicest places Ive ever stayed.The property is dog friendly, and not just you can keep your dog in your room friendly—we could bring him everywhere! I travel with my dog often, and he never has the freedom to enjoy the property the way he did at Desolation. He came to the pool with us, the lobby, and he joined us for dinner and breakfast at Maggies (which was an amazing dining experience—I mean truly fantastic food, drinks, and service).Finally, the staff was the cherry on top. Bethany, Santiago, Lourdes (who makes one hell of a spicy margarita), and Chef Skyler took great care of us on every level.If I HAD to list something negative (mainly to prove this review is genuine), Id say this: 1) youre not going to fit a Ram 1500 in the garage and 2) the water pressure in the shower could have been a LITTLE stronger. But really, there was ample parking on the property and the shower was fine.Ultimately, this was just supposed to be a place to crash on our long drive, but our stay at Desolation was the highlight of our trip. We will absolutely be back (and stay longer).
Recently stayed at the hotel to attend a wedding. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. It was a beautiful hotel, quaint and very quiet. The front desk staff was excellent. Everyone was there to help you out in anyway. The rooms were sensational from the heated floors in the bathroom, the comfortable bed and the tubs in the balcony. It had a beautiful heated pool and and a large hot tub. The scenery was breathtaking. The hospitality was beyond any I have received. If you get the opportunity to stay at this hotel, you won’t be disappointed. I will be back. Thank you to everyone at Desolation hotel.
Our stay at the Townhouse was a wonderful experience. The room was impeccably designed with great attention to detail, making it feel like a cozy retreat. The staff were not only friendly but also highly responsive, ensuring our needs were met promptly. Well definitely be returning!
We just came back from a family vacation at Desolation Hotel in Markleeville. The property provided a variety of cabins to choose from. Unfortunately when we booked we were not informed that the largest property, Hope House, was actually not on the same property as the cabins. It was about 1 mile up the road near the General Store. The hike to that house took approximately 30 minutes and could not be done after dark. Fortunately they were able to switch our accommodations so we were all close to one another.Also the General Store is listed on their website as a great place to get coffee and pastries. Unfortunately it was closed, and has been closed all summer. The hotel should keep their website updated.We also found that the hiking information in the lobby was not up to date. We went to participate in an Historical hike only to find that it was cancelled one month before.The property was very lovely, but surprisingly right on Highway 88. Substantial traffic noise at times.
Could not speak more highly of Desolation Hotel! Came for an extended girls weekend in March. The design, the interiors, and all the thoughtful details in the room are even better in person than what you see in the photos. We thoroughly enjoyed all of their facilities including the hot tub, sauna, and gym. Since its a smaller property, we almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves at times. The staff was so friendly and helpful, and were quick to assist with our questions. Its in a prime location, right off of Lake Tahoe Blvd near the stateline, but tucked away from the busy traffic, so its nice and quiet. We were able to walk to the Heavenly Gondola and Village easily for shopping and eats. Dont sleep on Maggies!! The restaurant at Desolation is excellent, and nice and cozy. We came for dinner, drinks, and brunch; everything was delicious and the service was amazing. We even came back for dessert after having dinner down the road. Had a wonderful, relaxing weekend here and will for sure be back.
Amazing new hotel in South Lake Tahoe! We went with our toddler for a summer vacation and stayed in the multi-level townhouse. It was amazing. They really considered every detail from the great Chemex coffee experience, to the MagSafe chargers bedside, to the heated tile floors, Peloton in the guy, and EV charging.The location is perfect and even though it is not lakeside, they do have a use of a private beach a short walk away. Heavenly village and all the chaos of “downtown” are a very short walk away, but your are secluded in a quiet alpine oasis when you get back.We had a couple small kinks with housekeeping that I would chalk up as growing pains for a new hotel, but all in all we had a great experience and we will definitely be back!

The experience of the lake, surroundings shops, and restaurants provided a peaceful getaways from our hectic lives. The property was absolutely beautiful and our stay in the townhouse went above and beyond to meet our needs. Overall, my family and I were thoroughly impressed and will be coming back.
I recently had my birthday at the hotel and loved every minute! Maggie’s the restaurant was amazing! The pool and spa are open 24 hours with outdoor fireplaces and wall mount heaters. It was snowing and I still enjoyed the pool and spa! The townhouse was amazing and I loved how I could soak on the patio while it was snowing out! Magical experience and definitely will be back again this year!! Great job to the friendly staff and owner!

Desolation Hotel is a true gem in South Lake Tahoe! My wife and I were blessed to visit Lake Tahoe for our first times the past week. Desolation Hotel was the perfect place to stay! It was a great price for the amenities and amazing room! We will definitely be staying here in the future, and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in South Lake Tahoe.
Loved staying here! The townhome my bf and our dog stayed in was perfect for a weekend stay. The double balconies and outdoor tub were amazing. Enjoyed using the Pool and jacuzzi. Really appreciated how dog friendly the hotel is; we were even able to bring him with us to eat at Maggie’s (delicious restaurant on the property). Can’t wait to return!
We had a very disappointing experience this month (October 2023). This was our third stay at this hotel in three months and we were looking forward to introducing the hotel to our family who travelled from Seattle. We booked the room almost two months in advance and asked for a specific room which we love for various reasons (including the view and location). We were assured the room would be ours as it was not booked. Wonderful! We paid 50% and were excited. Upon arrival, we were told we did not get the room we specifically booked because a room block came in at a later date. Note this is a micro-hotel and booking rooms in a block is laughable. Then the woman told us, It says right in the notes DO NOT CHANGE ROOM. Oops. Sorry. She laughed this off as if it was no big deal. But, it was to us. Not wanting to seem high maintenance, we took the room they moved us to. And it gets worse. We found a strangers underwear in the dryer. We also found their ice cream in the freezer. It seemed the staff barely cleaned the room. This was not a good way to start what we hoped would be a much-needed weekend away with family. My husband asked that the Manager/Owner give us a call. Of course, he never did. This is sad because we have been raving about this hotel to ANYONE who would listen. We even posted about it to social channels and told friends and family. But, well never go back. They lost a customer (and probably many more than just us). They were blase about our wishes and totally unreliable when we made specific room requests far in advance (which we were promised would be met). Horrible experience and disappointing.
We had the most incredible stay at the Desolation Hotel last week with our family.We stayed in a Townhouse which we found so convenient with our toddler boys as it came equipped with stair gates and pack and play cribs which made it so safe and relaxing for us.We ate at Maggies for Lunch and dinner, the food was delicious and excellent service.We loved everything about the Desolation hotel, the decor/vibe and ambiance was perfect.The staff could not have been better.We can’t wait to return!!
The staff were very friendly and super accommodating. The room was excellent! Incredibly well equipped kitchenette, comfortable bed, and all the amenities one could hope for.The location was convenient to everything Lake Tahoe has to offer from natural beauty to nightlife.I highly recommend!
What an amazing experience! Everything about the townhouse was perfect, and the attention to every detail was so well thought out. Heated floors in the bathroom, a fireplace on each level, everything you could possibly want and so much more!!!! The staff is welcoming and made me feel so at home. This was an amazing stay! The townhouse are so cute, very well built and the design is just top of the notch! We enjoyed spa and pool everyday. And free Tesla charger! Will definitely return;)
Stayed here with some friends and had a great time. bethany at the front desk was extremely friendly and helped us plan meals and things to do. i work at a luxury resort in Napa and this hotel was amazing from the service to the room itself. will be staying here again and highly recommend this property!
If I could give this hotel zero stars I would. My family and I stayed here last winter and had such a disappointing experience with Desolation. A quick recap: we arrived to a dirty room. I’m talking…used bathroom products and a dirty bathroom. There were a few other minor issues, but the biggest issue we faced was while we were enjoying a night in, our POWER WAS OUT. My 2 small children and infant were terrified as it was storming outside and they were on a completely different level than us (Eldorado town home) my husband investigated and realized the breaker popped. He let the lady in the office know and she basically just said that’s never happened and didn’t seem to care or help. WE LOST POWER TWO MORE TIMES GUYS. We couldn’t believe this was happening. It was terrifying for my kids and annoying for my husband who had to fix the breaker on the bottom floor each time. The next day we got a call that basically said please leave your room right now so we can have our handy man check it out. We had to leave immediately and that’s no easy feat with 3 kids. It was all just so inconvenient and the communication was non existent. What bothered me was the staff or management never reached out and apologized. It left such a sour taste in my mouth that I decided to write a review about our experience. RICHARD THE OWNER was very apologetic and offered us a one night stay for free and even threw in a Maggie’s gift card. He asked us to pick a date that worked for us and we did. He said great, I’ll book it right now for you guys. Well, a few months pass and our date is approaching, we call just to confirm our reservation. (It’s a long drive for us) and HE NEVER MADE THE RESERVATION. HE COMPLETELY GHOSTED US. We emailed him twice thinking this must have been a mistake and RICHARD has still to this day ghosted us. I took my original review down because I was so impressed with how he handled our situation and I think once they saw the negative review down they decided to withdraw their offer? I’m completely disgusted by this whole situation and I can’t even believe this happened to us. We had so many things go wrong during our stay, and for paying upwards of 900$ a night….those issues should have NEVER happened. I’ll be continuing to not recommend this place and let people know of our experience with the hotel and with the owner who failed us. Thanks Richard.
Everything about this place was amazing!! We loved it from the moment we parked our car. The front desk was super friendly. The room was beautiful. The bed was super comfy we honestly could have slept all day. Our room had a little tub on the balcony that we enjoyed. We also used the sauna and cold plunge shower. The restaurant was delicious. We will definitely be coming back.
Great hotel! Very close to heavenly village, state line and the lake. The room was amazing, so cozy and welcoming. Had everything we needed and the staff were so friendly and accommodating! I would highly recommend!
Staying here was such a great experience! From the balcony hot tub, to the poolside bar, and the amazing rooms, this stay was one of a kind! ALL of the staff were so friendly and attentive to any and all needs, which made us feel so personally welcome. I would love to stay here again, as the high quality of everything was amazing!

You can tell they put a lot of thought into building the property, picking out what amenities to include, and every little detail to accommodate/anticipate their guests needs. The rooms are modern and minimalistic (exactly how we like it) and the location is close to everything. They have a restaurant called Maggies and we loved it as well - great drinks and beautiful surroundings. This is by far the best hotel in Tahoe Ive stayed in and would 1000% come back and recommend this to any future visitors. Thank you for making our getaway extra special!
Awesome hotel! Has all the amenities one could ask for. This hotel is definitely worth the money for anyone who would like a more comfort than a standard hotel room. The rooms really feel like a home rather than a hotel room. Loved that we had a garage since we came with the intention to go mountain biking for most of our stay.
Desolation provided exactly the getaway my husband and I were looking for. After a long day of snowboarding we were lucky enough to get a room in this perfectly nestled boutique hotel. The amenities were top notch and we took advantage of every last one of them. All fabulous. We relaxed in our cozy chic room with the soaking stone tub, reserved the sauna, swam while it snowed in the heated pool and hot tub. Best of all we never had to leave the grounds as their restaurant, Maggie’s, was delicious! I 100% recommend indulging on a getaway to Desolation.
Maybe the coolest hotel Ive ever stayed at. Rooms are awesome, hotel is very stylish and relaxing. Maggies restaurant upstairs has great food and friendly staff. Strong environment-first sensibility too. Not cheap, but if you value style and comfort, this is first class.
Our stay was magical! This is a brand new hotel in Lake Tahoe and the perfect place to stay for couples. We stayed in the 3 level townhouse and LOVED it! It was cozy with multiple fireplaces, huge bathtub, beautiful rain shower with heated floors, skylights with automatic blinds, chic decor, two balconies, full kitchen, and super technology forward! Their pool area is incredible and has a large saltwater pool that was the perfect temperature and a large hot tub. We had dinner at Maggie’s which was a 5 star experience; we even got to meet the chef and talk to him for a while! The prosciutto wrapped scallops with handmade pasta and the short ribs were to die for. Everything we ordered was amazing. Highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Tahoe! The staff made us feel like we were family. We will definitely be coming back soon!
I was fortunate enough to experience all that Desolation Hotel has to offer during a recent stay in one of their incredible hotel studios. From check-in and the complimentary glass of bubbly through check out, every aspect was five – no, six– star worthy. This place truly is an oasis. The suite feels intentionally designed to surround you with luxurious comfort - indoor AND outdoor soaking tubs, kitchenette, incredibly comfortable bed (not to mention the array of electronics designed for today’s connected traveler). The property amenities, like Maggie’s restaurant – where the amazing food was only outdone by the service or the free bicycles, enhance the resort experience without diminishing the proximity of all that South Lake Tahoe has to offer. A particularly enjoyable highlight for me was the pool area – it truly is an oasis within an oasis. The saltwater pool and jacuzzi provide a refreshing and restorative space with an inviting and soothing atmosphere. I can easily imagine it being the hub of the property with conversation, drinks, music, and positive energy. Throughout my visit, I was also fortunate to spend a bit of time with Eric, the GM – his commitment to excellence and to his team is evident in everything he says and does which only added to my enjoyment of this stay. If you are looking for a welcoming, idyllic place to retreat, nest, or simply “base-camp” while in the Tahoe Basin, I don’t believe you can do better than Desolation Hotel.
This was our first day at Desolation hotel, and it was magical! There are so many special details in this hotel that makes it so unique. The decor in the unit was simple, but elegant and every detail was thought out. We had brunch and dinner at Maggie’s and both were fabulous. They even had gluten-free options. We also enjoyed the sauna, hot tub, and pool. What an amazing getaway! Definitely will be back!
Our jaws dropped when we arrived at the Desolation Hotel. From the beautiful outdoor pool and hot tub area to our incredible room, we were blown away by the attention to detail. The location has great access to the Heavenly area and the beach. Definitely enjoy dinner at Maggie’s on the third floor. We’ll be back!
This boutique hotel is impeccable. The service is great, the staff are extremely friendly…I am obsessed with this place. The rooms are incredibly clean and modern, the bathroom is beautiful, and the balcony tub was such a priceless experience, especially when it’s a hot bath on a freezing, snowy day/night.The hotel offers a complimentary private sauna + rain shower experience that you can reserve as many times as you’d like all to yourself or with your group of people.The gym is quaint with a TV, 2 peloton bikes, a treadmill, a bench, free weights, bands, mats, and clean towels. It’s not big, but it’s beautiful and perfect if you know how to perform certain exercises/movements.Maggie’s restaurant food is delicious and is beautifully presented. I loved both their brunch and dinner experience.The rooms come equipped with a full kitchen, equipped with a gas stove/oven, modern plates, utensils, pots and pans, glasses and mugs, pour over coffee maker, refrigerator (no freezer).Rooms have a desk, multiple phone chargers, Apple Watch charger, air pods charger, and plenty of outlets.Every detail is carefully thought out. I can’t wait to stay here again.
We had 5 nights in total luxury. We are Mr and Mrs Fussy Pants from Sydney. The town house with its own garage and on 3 levels is a must. Two gas fires. Two balconies. A full kitchen with everything. Automatic lights !! Two large TVs. Desolation has its own fabulous restaurant called Maggie’s. It’s sensational. Unusual for a hotel. The staff were superb. Stayed late for us to arrive after hours in a snow storm. Oh yes, the beds were divine and the overall cleanliness of our whole place impeccable. I give it 12/10 !!
This is one of the most beautiful rooms we’ve ever stayed in. They have thought of everything from the SUPER comfy bed to the beautifully selected decor that was thoughtfully selected for a relaxing atmosphere. It was 20 degrees outside and the Japanese soaking tub with the heater above on the balcony was just what I needed after a hectic week. You also won’t find a better brunch In all of south Lake than Maggie’s! It was Amazingly delicious. From the friendly staff to the room to the restaurant, this place was great! I would give it 10 stars if I could!!!

We had the most wonderful stay at Desolation Hotel! I went with a few friends for a long weekend, and it couldnt have been better. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a getaway in the Tahoe area.The RoomsWe stayed in the El Dorado Townhome and the Granite Suite and both were absolutely stunning. They are incredibly spacious, the decor is impeccable, and they are furnished with everything you would need. We made use of the kitchen every day we were there, which is fully furnished with all of the essentials, including their own brand of coffee and supplies for pour over. The attention to detail at Desolation is truly so impressive. The rooms were also sparkling clean, which is very important to me.The amenitiesWe would have had a great time just hanging out in the rooms, but the amenities made it feel like we were staying at a spa. The pool and hot tub area is pristine. We were there in the winter, so we enjoyed hot tubbing while the snow was coming down. They also have an especially lovely sauna that you can reserve, and a very high end, modern gym.Maggies is the restaurant on site, and it has to be some of the best food in the South Lake area. Dont be fooled by the small number of tables, or the fact that is a hotel restaurant the menu is incredible. Our dinner there was by far the best meal of the trip (we also ate at the Edgewood hotel and at Heavenly village).Also worth mentioning, I drove my Tesl there and our room came with an indoor garage spot AND a Tesla charger built in! It was super convenient to be able to charge there.LocationThis location is exactly where you want to be in South Lake. Its a 5 minute walk to Heavenly village, where all of the shops and restaurants are. If youre skiing / snowboarding, its easy access to the mountain. Its also walking distance (or a very short drive) to the casinos or the lake. It doesnt get much better than this location.The StaffThe staff here were SO incredibly helpful and friendly. We asked them tons of questions about skiing / rental logistics etc. and they were so helpful and knowledgeable about the area. They were also super quick and responsive whenever we needed anything, and made us feel so comfortable.
I had an excellent stay at Desolation Hotel — this place has everything! Not only were the rooms beautiful, the bed comfortable, and the surroundings breathtaking, but it is clear that every detail has been thought through to make the guest experience above and beyond. Dont even get me started on outdoor balcony soaking tub...The staff was extremely welcoming and had an impressive knowledge of the area; a great resource during my trip. Check-in was also seamless. Its clear that the entire staff genuinely cares about the experience their guests have, and it did not go unnoticed!I cant wait to come back and visit this hotel for an extended period of time and take advantage of all of the amazing amenities. The pool and spa, sauna, fitness center to name a few....Ill definitely be back. I give this hotel a 10/10, and will be recommending it to anyone and everyone headed to Lake Tahoe looking for a relaxing space to kick their feet up and top off a long day of adventuring.
The alpine suite was so perfect for our birthday celebration! The room was so beautiful and the soaking tub was heaven. Shane and Bryan were amazing in helping us get to the room and providing us perfect service. I’ve worked for hotels for over 6 years and this was one of the bests staffs I’ve encountered.
This was a magical destination for our daughters wedding. Not only great cabins, but a super restaurant as well. And easy access to amazing hiking trails. To top it off, the staff was perfect in every way! Thank you Desolation Hotel! I hope to visit you again!
I booked this hotel on a whim for a romantic getaway and it did not disappoint! Location is very central to everything fun to do in Lake Tahoe and the room and amenities were amazing! I really was hesitant to book some thing new without knowing much about the property other than the pictures, but the soaking tub on the deck sold me. This will definitely be our go to spot for Tahoe trips.
Dream vacation that was perfect for a skiing weekend! The townhome was absolutely stunning with every amenity imaginable. The staff was incredible, and the location is perfect with a short 5 minute walk to the Heavenly village. Maggies restaurant was so good that we ended up eating there twice. I will definitely be staying here next time I come to Tahoe.
Great new hotel in the area.Modern rooms with a lot of tech and close to everything. We enjoyed our stay and felt like at home.It was clean and staff provided great attention to detail to make our stay enjoyable.A couple of notes for future:Room did not have iron/ironing board.Would be great if the room had additional storage/cabinets as there was not much space to unpack the essentials.
Personnel: OMGosh!! All personnel were kind, friendly, helpful, upbeat, down-to-earth. Terrific atmosphere amongst staff and guests. Priority #1- definitely service with a smile and meeting the needs of guests. Lobby comfortable, cozy, check-in and -out, fast and easy. Lobby staff, Bethany and Jack were youthful, fun, and all smiles. Always a fun and uplifting encounter, these two.Hotel and Location: Hotel is new construction, modern design and decor, conducive to a pleasant, luxurious, warm, welcoming staycation. Great amenities in room and on site. Desolation is conveniently located within a short walking distance (5-10 minute) from the beach, restaurants, casinos, golf, and shopping. Parking was readily available on site. Highly recommended.

Desolation Hotel is amazing! I Highly recommend it. It has simple but beautiful, efficient design. The kitchen is perfectly appointed although we never used it because we ate at the sweet, little Maggie’s restaurant (also highly recommend). We stayed for a weekend in January to go skiing. The location is perfectly located near Heavely resort. Just a short walk to the slopes. Desolation is a MUST stay!
Detailed Review (TL;DR at the end):I found this property from a very random google search for my mother’s birthday. Immediately loved the description of Japanese tranquility mixed with Scandinavian design. I found out this a new property just recently opened in August 2022. As a new property, this hotel absolutely knows how to capture and retain customers, as I have every intention of visiting again during my next Tahoe trip. First of all, the hotel has some of the best customer service that I have experienced. When I initially called and mentioned it was my mother’s birthday, the staff offered a bottle of wine for our room to celebrate. When we arrived on the property, everything was immaculate, and if it was not, the staff immediately opted to go above and beyond to make it right. Secondly, this property has stunning minimalist design and lighting throughout, creating a luxury cabin aesthetic that makes you never want to leave.There are three types of rooms (to my knowledge): a studio size, a 3-story townhouse with an attached garage, and the Granite Suite which is their largest sized room. The photos below are from the townhouse.I love how pet-friendly this hotel is! They offer pet amenities, such as a dog bed, dog bowls, etc. The townhouse has gates on all the stairs, which are probably meant for children but add as a great help for pets too!Additionally, for those who want to WFT (work-from-tahoe), the owners of this hotel partner with Untethered, a co-working space approximately 3-4 minutes around the corner. Untethered is a beautiful office space, managed by the kindest people (thank you Jamie and David). The space has options for a day pass or membership.Due to a snowstorm during our trip, we didn’t venture out too much. However, I am thankful once again to the staff for their generosity in letting us check in early and check out late due to safety concerns of being on the road during this storm. My favorite part of this stay was soaking in the outdoor tub during the storm, relaxing by the fireplace (indoor and outdoor), and making dinners in the full kitchenette.Huge thank you to all front desk staff and the hotel manager, Richard for creating a memorable stay! I look forward to returning :)TL;DR- stunning, luxury cabin property. Pet-friendly. Amazing customer service. Co-working space approximately 3-4 minutes around the corner. This property goes above and beyond expectations. Definitely worth it and definitely recommend.
Amazing property in the heart of south lake. The attention to detail was incredible. The room was designed for luxury and efficiency. very impressed all around. The pool is heated even during the snow. There are ev chargers in every spot. The bedding was super comfortable. You cant find a better spot for your ski weekend.
Hands down, an amazing place to spend a stay in Lake Tahoe. We booked one of their townhouses, and were blown away by the amenities (jacuzzi tub, two fireplaces, and a balcony tub to name just a few!) Its evident that the owners have placed a great deal of thought and care in the guest experience. For example, they provided a Dyson hairdryer in the bathroom and a Chemex pour over in the kitchen, small touches that really elevated our experience.The customer service was also lovely. We were able to check in early, but a maintenance worker was still working on the door for just a few more minutes. As an apology, the hotel receptionist brought a complimentary bottle of wine to the room!
I booked the townhouse at Desolation Hotel for my 30th birthday. This was BY FAR the best place I’ve stayed while in south lake. The amenities were amazing, and the townhome was more than I could’ve asked for. The details and fixtures were beautiful and had a lot of thought behind them. We loved our stay so much we ended up extending our stay by one night, and I wish I could have stayed longer. It felt incredibly cozy, and the staff was so friendly and helpful with everything. I don’t have any negative things to say about this hotel.
We had an amazing stay at Desolation Hotel! We stayed in one of the townhomes for a few nights and it was such a great experience starting from when they handed me a bottle of wine upon checking in!The hotel is relatively new, modern, but still very cozy. The attention to detail they put into each unit is really impressive. The townhome had a mini kitchen complete with a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, gas stove, oven, and microwave. The two balconies are gorgeous and one has a private plunge pool! There are little windows that have fireplaces in them. In the bedroom, there were wireless charging stations on both sides of the bed. The in-unit washer and dryer came in handy! Also there’s a Dyson hair dryer in every unit.We took advantage of the sauna on-site which requires a reservation but allows for a private experience. We also checked out the jacuzzi and heated pool - a must during the winter season!When we were there, Tahoe was getting pummeled by snow and we ended up needing to stay an extra night. The staff was so accommodating and we were able to stay in the same unit.If you stay there you must check out the on-site restaurant, Maggie’s! The food and drinks are excellent. One morning I couldn’t bring myself to walk over there and the very kind staff brought my breakfast to me.I can’t say enough good things about the hotel. We would love to come back again and see how it is in the summer!
I had high expectations going there and they were exceeded. What a place! Every detail thought out. State of the art technology in the rooms. Internet a breeze. Skylights that close off so light doesn’t come in the mornings. Sustainability was an obvious priority of the ownership as well. Pool with a bar lot’s of fun. Bathtub on the porch for warming up after a day of skiing. Heavenly Ski resort, casino’s, Edgewood for golf and the beach all within walking distances. Sheer bliss!
Completely in love with this hotel! The townhome was absolutely beautiful in every way. The pool, hot tub, and sauna were perfect and I left feeling the most relaxed I have in a while. Staff was super helpful and friendly, and the cute little things made my day. 10/10 will recommend to alllll my friends

Desolation Hotel is a gem! I stayed for two nights with my family (two kids, 5 and 2). All of the spaces are impeccably designed and arranged; rooms that feel very comfortable and are packed with amenities (fireplace, deck, kitchen, soaking tubs), a lovely pool area with a hot tub, fire pits, and a bar.. and the food was exceptional! The service was friendly and welcoming. All of this in the wonderful location of South Lake. Cant wait to get back there!
One of the best hotels weve ever stayed. This hotel exceeded our expectations - and they were already high given the great photos and reviews.We stayed in the Alpine room with our dog. It was gorgeous and everything was well thought out. Details include under bed lighting, two charging stands, cyclone fireplace, heated bathroom floors, adjustable/dimmable lighting everywhere. Drip coffee, fridge, microwave, stove, more than enough high end utensils, pots, pans, dishes. Outside youll find the soaking tub and an overhead heater.The entire complex is dog friendly - we loved that we could bring our dog to the pool deck while we swam. The pool deck has several inviting places to sit outside even in the winter given the fireplaces and heaters.The restaurant Maggies is quaint and absolutely delicious. We went for brunch and dinner. This place is also dog friendly!The staff went over and above to make us feel so welcome. Even gave our dog a cute cookie and welcome glasses of wine for us. Awesome group working there! My only worry is word will catch on quickly about this place and itll be fully booked for months lol.Stay here - its a great price for an incredible stay in South Tahoe.

Great service. In town for a wedding with my dog and boyfriend. We were weary after a 12 hour road trip. The bed was luscious, place was clean. New construction and as with most quick to go up buildings the finish quality isn’t always there (odd-cut trim pieces, drips of caulk and grout) but I’m being way too picky. Very caring and doting staff. Must have asked for 5 favors -at least!- over the whole two days we were there (key didn’t work, got locked out, needed iron and board, can we order a drink from the pool, could I have another packet of coffee, do you have a sewing kit?). All requests were met with a smile and they never made you feel like you shouldn’t or can’t ask. I hope this place takes off soon and I’m sure it will. Minor suggestion but a bigger trash can under the kitchen sink would be great. A magnifying mirror would be great in the bathroom and more light would be appreciated for putting on makeup. I loved the iPhone charger and used it but my BF needed a few more usb outlets for his phone. Maggie’s was a good time and had great burgers. The soaking tub was a cool idea. Wish the water was a smidge hotter for that. Sauna hopefully will soon be on full time as it’s a little inconvenient to schedule when you want to use it. Pools were pristine. Would knock the temp lower on big pool and hotter on hot tub but again being picky. Pour over coffee was very thoughtful as was the bottle of wine. Robes were delightful. I want one! Keep up the great work. We will be back! Can’t wait to try the bar in the pool area as I’ll bet it’ll be hopping in the right season. Thank you for making our stay so memorable.
Desolation Hotel gets five stars across the board! As a travel blogger in the accommodation space, Ive seen some of the best rated hotels in Northern California and DH is my favorite. From the design to the amenities, theyve thought of it all. Our unit had its own jacuzzi on the patio along with a community heated pool that we were able to swim in during the dead of winter. They also have enclosed parking garages, a sauna and a state of the art gym with a peloton! We cannot wait to return! PS. Dont forget to check out Maggies, the restaurant on site. Its has the best brunch and dining service in all of South Lake Tahoe!
I wish I could give more than 5 stars. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. We had trouble with our oven and they checked on us multiple times and called management to make sure we figured out how to use it. The ability to text the staff if you need anything shows how willing they are to accommodate guests. The heated floors in the bathroom gave such an elevated and luxurious experience. I’m coming back to Tahoe in the summer and I will never stay anywhere else.
My husband and I stayed here for our 10 year wedding anniversary in September 2022 and it was incredible! You are a few minutes from town with endless shops and restaurants, and a few minutes from Lake Tahoe. The room was amazing and fully equipped. We also loved the staff, they were so accommodating and friendly! We hope to go back again soon!
I really wanted to give the hotel a 5-star rating but I just cant. We stayed in the El Dorado Townhome and it was just too expensive for such a cramped living space.Pros: Location - It is walking distance to the main resort/casino area and not too far from the lake. Service - The staff is nice and welcoming.Cons: Room Details/Amenities - The outside soaking tub seems fun but its a bit weird because the screen on the patio railing only partially obstructs others from seeing you. The beds are too soft and yes, that is a thing. They literally provide no support for your back/spine and the comforters they use are great for the winter but too hot and thick for the summer. The Japanese soaking tub is a great concept but nearly unusable because of its entry and seat heights, as well as the way its awkwardly (tightly) installed next to the shower. Premises - The noise level outside of the rooms can be a bit much, especially if theres a group of kids in the pool all evening. Parking - The garage spots are nice but you have to be an extremely experienced/good driver if youre going to make the tight turn into each garage without hitting the sides or pylons. Dont even consider parking a full-size truck or Tesla Model S in the garage because theres just not enough space side-to-side or back-to-front. Finally, the price is ridiculously high for these rooms. They look nice but its quite a bit of smoke and mirrors with the over-the-top interior design. These newer Tahoe-area hotels should really think about how they fleece everyone, including locals, who just need a quality room to sleep in and a place to park. We wont be back because it just wasnt worth it. There are nicer places around the lake with better views for cheaper prices.We had a nice time at the restaurant but Ill save that for a separate review.
Our stay at Desolation was great. The frontdesk and management was very accommodating to our request to switch rooms due to noise that was above the room we were staying in. I would recommend anyone looking for that extra personal touch at a 5 star boutique hotel. We would definitely stay again the next time we are in South Lake Tahoe.
Desolation Hotel provided us with an idyllic escape. We were fortunate enough to stay in one of their townhouses, which was outfitted with everything necessary for a perfect weekend. The cleanliness was impeccable, the service was top-notch, and the amenities were just right. It was, without a doubt, a picture-perfect experience.
10/10 where do I even start?! Every detail of the room made it feel like home away from home. The bed was so comfortable, and the retractable window coverings were great to get a couple extra hours of sleep in the morning.The heated bathroom floors, the TUBS, push start shower everything was luxurious and beautiful all around.
South Lake locals - two night staycation. The Alpine room was well appointed and exceeded our expectations. We loved the highly curated interiors especially the lightening, soaking tub, high end bathroom finishes, and all around aesthetic. The bed was a highlight and provided such magnificent sleep. Desolation is just what Lake Tahoe needed. We loved the modern stylish rooms, each quipped with a tub & kitchen. It was amazing having our dog with us as well. Staff was really friendly and attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here everytime we’re in Tahoe.
We had a great experience overall in the week we spent at Desolation - a couple things stood out though, first, the bathroom set up was a bit strange (very small tub and very small shower that could’ve been avoided with a smarter design) and the sauna (no frosted glass on the entirely glass door???). Otherwise wonderful stay.
Highly recommend! Took my gf for her 30th and she loved every bit of the hotel. Everything was well thought out and it’s so high tech and relaxing. As Allison said, we did not want to leave the room day of departure. Richard was absolutely amazing! Any question we had, he was there with patience and kindness. The bed was lovely, it was just right! Soaking tub is beautiful. Everything you need is in the room. Cooking tools & all. Thank you Jack, Bethany, Richard, Allison, and Will. We can’t wait to return. We’ve already spread the word about this beautiful hotel and the top tier customer service.

Stayed here for a few nights, and it was honestly one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at. Everyone we met and talked to was super kind and nice. Everything about the room was sublime: big, comfy bed, the fireplace (or should I say firenado), the lighting (important!), soft bathrobes. When we stayed there, we had the swimming pool and hot tub to ourselves. It was also awesome to take a hot bath on the balcony in the evening. Since we were on a roadtrip, it was also really convenient to be able to do laundry here. Kind regards from me and Magali! 👋
We enjoyed 5 days at the hotel. The location is great, close to most everything in South Lake Tahoe. Our suite was comfortable and loaded with technology and convenience items. Our doggies loved the place! We highly recommend the Desolation Hotel!

Just spent the weekend at Desolation Hotel with my wife and we had the best time. Our room was incredible! You can tell they put a lot of thought into making it feel like your home away from home. The pool and jacuzzi was a perfect way to relax after our morning hike. Can’t recommend this place enough if you’re staying in South Lake Tahoe. My wife and I will definitely be coming back!
We stayed at Desolation Hotel for 4 nights and we ate at Maggie’s daily. The hotel is clean, well designed (rooms are efficient on space with full operating kitchens), there’s laundry onsite, heated pool with acoustic vibe music playing, sauna, and great porch spaces. The staff all seem to enjoy working there and were very friendly/helpful. I was also impressed with the daily grounds being unkept. I highly recommend!
Nordic feel - clean as a whistle - every touch is so thoughtful. My family wanted to eat every meal at Maggies! id give it more than 5 stars if i could - we loved it. (and dog friendly!) Thank you Desolation Hotel!
Pros - three story condo room, brand new, lots of detail, designed well, built well, restaurant on premises, pool with bar and hot tub, ev charging station, walking distance to Stateline and heavenly ski resort, extremely courteous staff, small kitchen on second floor fully stocked in condo with most items needed to make small meals, outdoor bath tub on top floor, gas fireplaces, flat-screen, down comforters, Japanese soaking tub best to shower, skylights in bedroom, outdoor eating area on deck adjacent t to kitchen second floor, so tons of amenities for the guest.Cons - due to staffing shortage rooms not cleaned well (dog hair on bedroom floor, potted plants in room all dead and had not been watered, dirty kitchen instruments (spatula had remnants of previous use and had not been washed)The disappointment was we were staying midweek and the hotel only had three other guests per the front desk. My wife discovered that that the shower had not been cleaned thoroughly after hoping in the shower to take one (bodily fluid and public hair attached to the shower wand - we assume- and no not our own) This naturally grossed my wife out like it would anybody and she went to the front desk with pictures from her phone. The front desk and on duty manager concurred that the shower Indeed was dirty with the above description. They said the would send somebody to clean immediately after we left our room. We left for the day only to come back to a still dirty shower. My wife asked again after we went out that evening. We were assured the shower would be cleaned. Came hone that evening shower still not cleaned. Finally, the third time and the next day the shower was finally cleaned! Third tine was a charm. The hotel front desk and management did apologize up and down and offer compensation which was appreciated. At this price point the hotel/inns main hurdle will be quality control and housekeeping. The rooms are decorated over the top. To keep up with deep cleaning and all the decorations in the room presents a challenge. The three floor condo units in my humble opinion are best for a couple. We were traveling with a small infant and the ergonomics of the floors were not that great when negotiating with an infant. The long rant comes from my background working for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Chain in the US and Asia. So, I would like to say I appreciate the stay at the Desolation Inn but see a definitive challenge to getting the place to run smoothly. Best of luck!

If I could give this hotel 6 stars I would! The rooms are clean and modern. The sauna and hot tub/pool area are very nice and clean as well, also they dont get crowded which makes it feel private. Close walk to the gondola’s and village. I will definitely be coming back here!
Just finishing up my 3 day stay at Desolation hotel Townhome. What a great time. The facilities are state of the art, the architecture unique and natural, and the attention to detail impeccable (as a former Marine I can tell). As an avid hiker and mountain biker, I was psyched to see an in unit washer and dryer for taking care of my dusty gear, in addition to the deck soaking tub for sore muscles. The garage is also a bonus! I also asked the manger what manufacturer made the bed, as I had the best nights of sleep in a long while. The location is perfectly situated between the lake and the town, just 2 blocks either way…or just chill at the new salt water private pool! The staff( Jack, Kylee) were kind, and super knowledgeable about mountain trails, geography, and local events. If John Muir or another serious Naturalist set out to make a cool spot to hang and chill or launch adventures in the mountains or lake, it would look and feel like this. This was our Anniversary and my wife’s Birthday and it did not disappoint. Thank you to front desk and Maggie’s Restaurant for making it so special. Stayed two nights, next time we visit, it will be for longer!!!
They thought of everything! From the electronic shades on the skylights to the stone tub on the balcony and a shower you dont want to get out of. The friendly staff and ambiance made our stay in an El Dorado Suite something to remember. The attention to detail in the rooms and on the property will impress you and make your stay as great as ours was!
This is the best hotel I’ve been to so far in South Tahoe! We stayed at one of the townhouses, and it was an amazing! I love the modern design and technology in the rooms. It was just so clean and luxurious. We can’t wait to be back!

We couldn’t ski because of a storm, but what a great place to be stuck inside! The room is full of wonderful touches, techie and otherwise. We ate at Maggie’s twice in one day because it was so good. And everyone who worked there was so nice and helpful!
My wife and I stayed at Desolation on a weekend getaway and can’t say enough great things about it. Can’t beat the location, the staff is on point with everything, and the amenities are world class, car chargers, soaking tubs, a sauna, an amazing restaurant. Even if we are famous they only care about actors. Me and my family were there and saw a mouse or rat swimming in the pool/outdoor tub with us. We were uncomfortable so left quickly. Whoever they have working the pool/outdoor tub isn’t doing a good job. We were unpleasant and left immediately. I didn’t know such a hotel didn’t take care of they pool/hotel room

I attended Desolation Hotel’s Spookytacular fundraiser event for Halloween raising money for the community and they went above and beyond! All of the kids had a blast. The music, games and rock wall were great, the staff were all so kind and fun and they even had actors to increase the Halloween “spooky vibe”. If this is how amazing they are before the hotel opens and how passionate they are about supporting the community, I can’t wait until the hotel opens to spend a weekend with them! Huge addition to our community. ❤️
After living in so many hotels. This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in USA. Too much things in the room is able to surprise me, and the stuff was so nice. Never ever experienced a such great hotel like this before. Will 100% stay here every time I visit Lake Tahoe. Super recommend it. btw Harry was so cute.

Between the games and the cotton candy, they both got a solid Halloween pre game to trick or treating! Also, they raised over 100k for the Caldor Fire. Talk about making a splash by contributing to the community!
I recently attended the Desolation Hotel Spookytacular event. For a first year event, it was more then I could have hoped for. With no other kid friendly and covid safe trick or treating events this year, the Spookytacular was fantastic! The kiddos had a blast, from the hot dogs and cotton candy (included with tickets!) to the Halloween games and decorations, it was an event that we will certainly be attending again. Desolation Hotel also raised over 100K for the Caldor Fire victims in our community. Really grateful for such an amazing company to contribute to our community like that.

Desolation was wonderful, extremely clean rooms, friendly staff, and perfect location. I stayed at Desolation with a few friends and we all snowboard, the hotel is a short 5 minute walk to the Gondola for Heavenly which was amazing as we went boarding all three days and did not have to worry about parking.There is also Maggies restaurant on second story of the hotel, food was delicious and the service did not disappoint. The pool is heated (which is delightful if you go in winter season and the hot tub is also there for a nice dip after a day on the slopes). Highly recommend staying here, I will definitely be going back.
We had an incredible stay at Desolation hotel and cant say enough about this gorgeous property. The architecture and design of the buildings and rooms were stunning. It created such a cool, luxurious ambience during our stay. The rooms were clean, well appointed and stocked with everything we needed. The icing on the cake was the customer service from Bethany. The moment we stepped onto the property, she created such a warm and inviting welcome. She was so kind and helpful. She is a rare find and Desolation Hotel is lucky to have her. We happened to dine next to the hotel owners one evening at Maggies, and they were so kind to all the waitstaff. It seemed like they truly cared about the property and their employees, which was so refreshing to see. I wish I would have let them know how impressed we were with the property and Bethany :) We would return and highly recommend Desolation Hotel.
I can’t recommend Desolation Hotel enough. The staff was beyond courteous and dropped everything to help me whenever I had a question. The location is perfect to the beaches and the casinos. But above all the rooms were fantastic! Every minute detail was thought of to elevate the look of the hotel and the rooms, and to make you feel comfortable and at home. I took a bath in my balcony tub every night. Yes, that’s right. You get a balcony tub. Plus you get access to a private beach, free bicycle to roam the town, and access to an onsite sauna and cold shower. This place is the tops!
We loved the location and walkability of this hotel. Communication with staff was easy and timely. The hotel has a lot of great amenities as well and it is kept clean and well maintained.

We only stayed at the Desolation hotel for one night recently, but I can say that the room, amenities, ambience, staff, and location were all excellent. and the hotel is pet, friendly, with very pet friendly staff.

This was such an awesome event that truly brought our community together which we havent seen a lot of since COVID. 2024-06-26 06:29:02Pristine place with a very helpful and friendly staff. Top notch appliances in a very comfortable room. I loved the hot tub in the balcony. The pool is gorgeous and very clean. The restaurant in site has delicious food. I also enjoyed all the beauty products in the room, all with essential oils. I felt like I was in a spa. It was a very pleasant stay. Allison and the other sweet lady (pardon me for not remembering the name) in the front desk were very helpful. I went to desolation after our family recommended and I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone. The location is great. You can walk to heavenly gondola. You also have access to a private beach which is a bonus!

The hotel rooms our immaculate and you can’t beat the location. It’s centrally located in the heart of South Lake and just a short walk to the casinos and Heavenly Village. A very impressive amount of thought has gone into all the tiny details in each room. We absolutely loved our condo. It was by far the most comfortable stay I’ve ever had. They are even pet friendly which is a huge plus for all the dog lovers out there. There is nothing more you could need as they have truly thought of everything! Desolation Hotel blows every other hotel out of the water and I felt spoiled. Cannot wait to come back! Thank you Desolation staff for an unforgettable weekend!

2024-07-01 19:26:52All around great experience. You cant beat the location (walking distance to Heavenlys Gondola, the beach at Lake Tahoe, the casinos, and more). The staff was helpful and responsive whenever we needed anything. The gym has modern equipment and plenty of space. The pool gets direct sunlight all day. The rooms come fully stocked and have a private garage for your car. I will definitely be coming back :)

It took a moment to figure out how to work the oven, but once we did it felt great to be able to cook instead of microwave lol. Telling my family about it so we can make a big trip of it next time.Also loved how dog friendly Desolation was. There is a big comfort in knowing that our small dog is in no risk of slipping through the balcony grates while we enjoy the tub.

2024-05-15 04:16:47Couldnt have picked a better place for my first time visit to Lake Tahoe! Booked one of the townhouses which came with a private garage. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The women at the front desk were very welcoming and helpful. This location is 10 minutes walking distance to Lakeside Beach and within walking distance to a bunch of shops and restaurants however the onsite restaurant Maggies was delicious! Definitely recommend this location if staying in Lake Tahoe! Thank you for your hospitality!

No detail goes unnoticed, from the amenities, to the innovative design, to the commitment to sustainability throughout. My personal favorite touch was the private soaking tub on our balcony. Dont forget to order the omelette at Maggies. It was stellar--just like everything else at this one-of-a-kind property. Thank you, Desolation!

Immaculate rooms with granite soaking tubs on your balcony, Dyson hairdryer, skylights that close for those who enjoy a late morning or nap, fireplaces in your living room, bedroom, and on your balconies where you can enjoy your coffee, and luxury bedding. On top of all this, the entire property is pet friendly for our fur babies to enjoy. The staff at Desolation definitely provides you the VIP treatment, as well as warmth. Dont miss booking a sauna. Also, the best restaurant in Tahoe is on site: Maggies. Maggies offers a varied menu, delicious food, and warm and wonderful servers and staff. What a perfect location, with perfectly planned accommodations. I cant wait to come back for another stay!

2024-06-19 22:17:56Stayed a couple of nights for our anniversary and everything exceeded our expectations. Top notch customer service, the townhouse was beautiful and had great amenities. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed Ive ever slept in. Desolation will be our go-to hotel in Tahoe from now on.

A lot of thought has gone in to designing and developing this sustainable hotel and it finds the perfect balance between a large upscale resort and a small boutique hotel. The rooms are first-class, spacious and beautifully designed and decorated. Maggie’s restaurant has the best food and drinks in town. The staff are lovely and genuinely care about delivering great service to their guests. And the pool and spa area with the fire pits and chill vibes is simply sublime. If you don’t mind a short stroll (a couple of minutes) to the Heavenly gondola and village shops, this is the perfect place to stay after a day on the slopes! I have travelled all around the world and I would highly recommend Desolation Hotel.
