I love their breakfast burritos. Not only are they delicious (with lots of cheese! 😋), but the price is right too. Big enough that I can never quite finish it either, so I save the rest as part of my lunch. I definitely recommend this place. 👍👍

I use to eat at a Green Burrito at this location as a child. It was the best burrito I ever had. I haven’t been back to Long Beach in over 20 years and was happy to see this restaurant. I ate the wet green and bean/cheese burritos and it was identical to the old green burrito. That was the first time I experienced nostalgia while eating. Thank you so much!!!
COME HERE FOR BREAKFAST !!! everything is good(super fish taco) the prices are incredibly low!!! They installed a new overhead menu and the prices stayed the same. My FAV is the mix burrito for only $4.24. it fills you up. I would even come her if I WASNT hungry, ( i like the food that much). Im so happy this place has reopened. Bacon and egg breakfast burrito $6.00. I probably wont be hungry all day

This place is a little hidden gem located in Hawaiian gardens. The Mexican food here is so delicious and the breakfast burrito is one of the best. So many different dishes to choose from. When I go to this place, i get the super nachos with steak 🥩. Talk about food coma. I would definitely encourage everyone to try this place out. Out door seating only and get there before people start showing up because you have to order from out side and at times the line gets long. Enjoy.

If you want to get a good breakfast burrito go with the mixed. Really good. I reccomend the green salsa. Has good flavor and is not hot. They asli have good quesadillas. I had the shredded beef one and it was not greasy like some other places. Just about everything I have had has been good.

Very affordable place, ordered a carne asada burrito and the big Ed. Carne asada burrito was 7$ and the big Ed was 11$. It was huge and I almost couldnt finish it. Im rating it a 4/5 just because it was ok, taste wise.

There is nothing fancy about this place. This location is the original Green Burrito, which means is the BEST! Its a little spot, very small outdoor seating. Amazing tacos. I LOVE the Super Burrito with chicken, but I get it wet. Their red enchilada sauce is DELICIOUS. Im really picky with red sauce and theirs is the best, by far.
This place was around over 45 years (I know because it was there when I was dating my wife and we have been married 45 years). It used to be Green Burrito home of the Big Ed burrito. Hard to add anymore to the other reviews. Everything on the menu is good and the staff is great. We will stop sometimes on the weekend to grab a couple of breakfast burritos.... So good. My wifes favorite is the bean and cheese burrito... Mine is the super nachos... Again so good.

This is the best Mexican food Ive had in the Lakewood, Hawaiian Gardens, Long Beach area. I go there on the reg. The special burrito is amay-za-zing. They are fast, affordable, and friendly. Came there around 10 PM for the first time. Ordered a bean burrito, taquitos and a chili relleno. I love Mexican food and I eat it every day. I’m a vegetarian and I let them know this. First of all, my hubbys taquitos were small, the chili relleno tasted like burnt ham or bacon and to boot it had pork meat & sauce poured on one side of it, and the bean burrito 🌯 sucked. How do you screw that up?! But all of that could’ve been masked by salsa right: wrong in this case! Their salsa tasted like fishy sauce, watery fish soup base. I know how to make great salsa. We also noticed they made the customer before us much bigger portions!! We won’t be back. Sorry.

A walkup window greets hungry customers when they visit Don Ruben.Large signage underneath the menu helps in deciding what to get.Chicken tortilla soup (medium)-An item not on the everyday menu, I knew I had to order this. The chicken tortilla soup was full of chicken, corn, large carrot spears and the rest of the good stuff. The broth was hearty, not too salty, & the portions provided definite bang for the buck.El gigante breakfast burrito-Unbeknownst to me, a 40 cents surcharge is added to breakfast burritos after 11am. Of course, that small caveat was nowhere to be seen on the prominent El Gigante signage, nor was I told that by the cashier prior to ordering, but the 40 cent surcharge was present on the bottom of the breakfast burrito menu. *Sigh*. Anyways, about the burrito, it was a tummy fillin, stick to your ribs bargain. Beans, potatoes, salsa, rice, eggs, bacon & cheese, the el gigante was stuffed like a goose feather pillow. Rice comprised the main component of the burrito, with the crunchy bacon providing that mouthwatering crunch. For $3+, its a steal. The red sauce on the side was deliciously thick, like a ragu. Not a watered down sauce, as at some other places. Roasted chilis are complimentary, too.Service was good. Although the cashier didnt notify me about the surcharge, he was friendly & welcoming. 2 customers were ahead of me, with my wait being about 5 minutes or so. Seating is via a small patio to the right of Don Ruben. I enjoyed my Mexican feast surrounded by a nice cool breeze and sparrows anticipating a few morsels of flour tortilla supplied by yours truly.Parking is in private lot, shared by a pawn shop and other businesses. Don Rubens is across the street from the Hawaiian Gardens Casino.Cheap, fast & filling! Don Rubens offers authentic Mexican food at inexpensive prices. This place was shut down for a while because someone ran into the building with their car but it came back better than before. I got the Mix Burrito which is a great mix for a breakfast burrito. Great sizes and great prices; my choice over all the other Mexican spots around the area.

Before they sold the franchise.I made a special trip specifically to get a Burrito, the Big Ed Burrito, that the TGB was known for. I wanted my kid to share something I remember as a kid. I was NOT disappointed, it was as big (2.5lbs) and as tasty as I remember. My 15 y/o really enjoyed it too.The location was busy, as I remember back in the day, on both sides of the counter.I also had an order of their taquitos, which I never ordered from them before. My kid wanted them, they were okay but i was dissatisfied because they lacked any cheese. Which was why I dropped a star rating for food. 3 Stars for atmosphere just because its an outdoor location, nothing fancy.

2023-05-29 15:03:48I have been coming to this location longer than I have been alive, literally. It has changed ownership over the years, and the staff has rotated a couple of times (only a couple though), but one thing that remains is the food. My personal favorites are the Big Ed (shareable), carnitas super nachos, hard shell tacos, Mix burrito, taquitos, and an old-fashioned bean and cheese.

2023-09-01 01:54:59I love their Chile rellenos, especially when I was pregnant, and I just tried their Call nita taquitos, and they were the best taquitos ive had since moved out here.
