The first stop after a flight is always food for me. Doug’s Place was definitely the place to be. Their specialty is Omelettes but my preference was Corned Beef Hash, eggs, hash browns and rye toast. Everything including the French Toast and Turkey Bacon were all Delish! The prices are amazing for the quality and food portions. The plates are definitely shareable. The crowd was diverse, the location was great, the service was good and most importantly the food was awesome!

There is nothing more nostalgic that having Sunday brunch with the family. Doug’s place reminded me of my childhood, a place where my mom and dad would takes us for some delicious American breakfast. Doug’s place is definitely one of the best breakfast spots in Castro Valley.The Chicken fried Steak (aka country fried steak) will always be my favorite American breakfast. BUT I highly recommend you tried their famous Chocha French Toast - it’s delicious!If you’re not a fan of breakfast, then you ought to get some of their Dougs Club Sandwich with some mixed fruits. It was my first time having a club sandwich with alfalfa sprouts, it was delicious and not greasy at all. YUM!

Food is always so tasty when we go there. Been coming there for years. I live in Washington, so when we come to the Bay Area we always stop in for breakfast 😋 highly recommend them! They have been there since 1978! All I need to say about that 😁

My new favorite breakfast spot in the CV area. Very clean inside and they also have about 5-6 tables outside. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive.I ordered the Chantum which is an omelette made with Bacon, Mushrooms, Tomatoes & American cheese, served with potatoes and sourdough bread.My new favorite omelette! It was so tasty and filling. I dont usually order potatoes but these were great.I stopped by at 8:30am on a Saturday morning and it was packed so you might want to get here early.Youll love this place!

Pretty mediocre all around. Id rather cook at home, quality seems to be on par with Walmart brand ingredients. Packaged syrup, package ketchup, just about average all around. Im guessing they advertise on Google because they seem to have way more one star reviews than five when you go through all the reviews but for some reason they have almost a five star on Google. Cant trust any of these review sites anymore, Google is probably dropping old reviews and just giving the five and four stars preference.

Dougs Place in Castro Valley........ You clearly didnt understand the assignment!!!!So I decided to go out for breakfast. My order was chicken fried steak with eggs over easy, county potatoes with light onions and wheat toast.This was quite possibly the worst breakfast ever. The cook acquiesced and covered the county potatoes with extra onions. After attempting to pick out the onions, I sent the potatoes back. What returned was the sorriest plate of country potatoes known to man. The server returned with some deep-fried oversized plain potatoes.#NeverEatingatDougsplaceAgain

Used to love Dougs not to sure whats happened over the years but service is alright, servers never came back once to check on us. Friend ordered the crab sandwich and just a heads up if you dont like imitation crab do not order they say its mixed but they must of been low on the real crab that day. The grilled cheese is a triple grilled cheese not just your average two pieces of bread.Then when going to pay they tried to charge me for the crab I asked to send back since it was nasty . I found Dougs during 2020 via Doordash, and this was my first time dining in. They have breakfast burritos that made life a lot better.Good is excellent with large portions, lots of variety and options. The place was packed and full of happy faces.Service was very friendly and competent, but slow and a bit hard to flag down; we waited for quite a while with the check before discovering its a pay as you leave place.

Great little “hole in the wall” breakfast place for your eggs, bacon, pancake cravings. Good, fast service. Only missed one coffee order and two salsa toppings, but promptly brought them when reminded. I had French toast with a side of bacon. I will say their sides are pretty pricey. 4 slices of bacon for $6.50 seems a little high. I’d go again if I was in the Haywood area.

The service was attentive and professional. The atmosphere was sickening and oppressive. The food was bland to adequate.Atmosphere. The first two rooms were humid and stuffy. The air was thick with cooking smells and people smells. It was palpably less foul in the third room, farthest from the entrance. If the ventilation is this poor when theyre at half capacity, I shudder to think how bad it is when theyre full.Sit near the windows to get some natural light. The artificial lighting is annoying -- it lacks color and the obvious strobing of cheap LEDs is exacerbated by ceiling fans spinning immediately above the fixtures.The French toast is all sugary appearance and wan flavor. The bacon, scrambled eggs, over easy eggs, shredded hash browns, and tinned corned beef hash were cooked well but they lack pizazz. For the price I expected at least a sprinkle of rosemary -- something other than the tasteless grease of soy bean and cottonseed oil.Coffee tasted badly burned. But it mightve been decent two hours prior.

One of my all time favorite places to eat. Me and my grandma used to eat there every week. So when I was back in town I had to take my kids to try it.Great food Big portions good vibes and great staff. This is not a gourmet place so disregard some of the lower ratings complaining about the food not being fancy. If you have never eaten here I highly recommend getting trying Doug’s.

This place used to be great. It was the only place around to get a crispy waffle! I dont know what happened, but now its not so great. The waffle is now inexplicably bright orange and tastes like stale cardboard. I dont even understand what kind of batter makes a waffle this orange. Did they add orange fanta to the batter? Its a mystery

Doug’s Place is the BEST! Everything they make is delicious. My mom always orders the biscuits and gravy and says they are the best she’s ever had anywhere! Today she switched up and had a waffle and said it was so good too! I’ve had their breakfast burritos and just about everything else. If you need me Sunday morning, find me at Doug’s😊 Soooo yummy!! The people that work there are top notch, they do a great job! So friendly. Such a great place!

Dougs was a fantastic though slightly too enthusiastic experience this AM.Big props where its due:Coffee - brilliant decent diner coffee ❤️The famous omelette - AMAZING but absolutely more of a breakfast burrito with an egg-tortilla 🤤🤤🤤 The Dougs Omelette was like an egg crepe with a bacon-veg-cheese hash inside, not what I was expecting but a pleasant surprise.The hash browns were wholey unremarkable. With salt they paired well with the leftover egg-burrito filling that spilled out.The sourdough bread was fairly mehThe staff was very enthusiastic, often asking if I needed help, at times multiple staff would ask if needed something before the first could fulfill the initial request in a timely manner!The bathroom I used was the only semi-con. It would be far more fitting for a gas station (the toilet was clean, but the walls were gross). Definitely not worth a ding to the score but plenty of room for improvement!

The positive is that the food was good. My waffle was made perfect. My server was nice and accommodating. The negative was that the place looks old and dirty. I had to brush crumbs off my seat and make sure my purse didnt touch the floor. There were no food allergy alternatives. I had to go to the grocery store next door to get real maple syrup because all they offered were pre-made packets. If you want to go back in time to a truck stop, this place is for you.

Located in shopping center, next door to Lucky. Easy parking lot area to find a spot. Light crowd Wednesday after 10am; waitress said we could pick any vacant table. Customer service was ALWAYS attentive & friendly during our mid morning breakfast. Portion sizes are great; good value for your buck. Dougs Place is THE BEST! I am from Los Angeles, and I come to Dougs every chance I get when I come to the Bay Area. They have the Best Crispy Waffles, which are My Absolute Favorite. The HashBrowns are so DELICIOUS, golden brown and buttery every time. The Bacon is Thick Cut and cooked to crunchy perfection! I dont come often, however, the food is CONSISTENTLY DELICIOUS EVERY TIME!! A great place to come for all ages. Today at Dougs I had the pleasure of meeting a couple who have been coming to Dougs Place since the Grand Opening, the Wife is 94 years young, and the Husband 101 years young! Beautiful. My cousin and I (36 years young) have frequently visited Dougs Place for about 6 years now.

First time there and pleasantly surprised. Being a Sunday noontime, there were a dozen people or so, waiting outside, but within 5 to 10 minutes, our table was ready. Very nice inside, with ceiling fans on to keep it cool. Great customer service by the Hispanic male taking our order to the rest of the staff. Prices are very reasonable compared to other restaurants.

This was the worst breakfast Ive ever had anywhere. The corned beef hash was clearly straight out of a can. The hash browns were utterly tasteless, except for an old greasy grill flavor. The toast was not toasted at all, and only symbolically buttered. It was literally just raw bread. To let you know how bad it was, this was three months ago but Ive kept reminding myself to write this review, lol. They seemed like nice people, though! :)

This a just a regular greasy spoon diner in my opinion. Just ok food but the portions are big. Not particular great service but I did get an older Asian man last time that was very very friendly. He even offered to put my son in the high chair for me. I will say dont order the GARLIC FRIES. We ordered the garlic fries and they were literally regular fries with a heaping soon of wet minced garlic. The kind thats just from the jar. They werent tossed with the fries at all like they usually are. Bacon is good. Very crispy and thick cut. This is odd to complain about but the butter on the toast straight tastes like they scraped it from the bottom of a bag of popcorn. I know thats a specific description but its VERY salty and yellow. I have gone there more than once and I am always like what kind of butter IS this? And I love butter but it tastes like popcorn butter. Anyway, nothing to write home about but it will feed the belly.

The foods didnt taste fresh the eggs look like it been waiting under the warmer for a long time. Toast breads was not fresh not firm. The hashbrown didnt look cooked enough and still look blonde taste like uncooked potatoes. The bacons was so hard as well. First presentation is very important to me be and your second service should be as first served excellence overall service with all your orders. My daughter orders wasnt at best performance as well. This place is a hidden gem! So good 😊, my first time was last weekend with my son, today I decided to come back. I ate the chicken fried steak and it was amazing so flavorful great portion amount! I think it’s the best I’ve had yet. The staff is amazing, they all look so young and they are hard working! Working in the food industry it’s great to see young adults working hard! I wish I had a picture of my food but I don’t b/c it was so good as soon as it hits the table I’m eating! This place has bomb good, hard workers, friendly vibe! We had four total orders- three had pancakes. The poached eggs were great, the omelet was great. Each of the three sets of pancakes were odd / off. Not bad, and not up to the standard of the 4.4 rating / expectation. I have ordered pancakes from many places, and cooked many myself, both from flour egg, milk (from scratch) as well as box + water - they were bad enough for us not want to go back. The staff was attentive and ensured our water was filled and coffee topped off. It is the power of their pancakes dropping my rating. In addition, I found waiting for the restroom to be intimidating - it was hard to tell when the doors were closed, and it was an active hallway for the kitchen and walk in fridge.

Based on these reviews, I expected a great experience. So I am disappointed that my crab sandwich was made with imitation crab. Nowhere on the menu does it state that the crab isnt real crab, and if they think folks cant tell the difference, they are wrong. Totally different taste and texture. It was pricey too. Dougs does breakfast, that is traditional bacon, 3 eggs over easy, hash browns, sourdough toast, and a short stack as well as could ever be expected.My wife had a 3 egg omelette with shrimp and crab, with hash browns and sourdough toast. If you want fancy, this is not the place.I wanted marmalade, but the jams and jellies in packages did the job. Coffee and tea with honey were great. Again, not fancy. Service was excellent.They left us to simply enjoy breakfast.The only issues I have are that bathroom is not as clean as it should be.Not cheap, but worth every penny.Well worth your time.If you are a foodie, expecting Avocado Toast and upscale breads and other time dining, this is not your place.We loved it and will be back.Best breakfast in Castro Valley-Hayward-San Leandro-San Lorenzo.

First time going to the restaurant recommended by a friend. I was very happy that they are doing in door dining. Seems to be family run, a lot of the bus boys are very young and age but very nice and helpful. I would assume the manager or owner also goes around to check on tables to see how everyone is doing and also was very concerned how our experience was. The omelettes are outstanding, easily the best Ive had anywhere. The Dougs Omelette is my favorite, but every one Ive tried has been excellent. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful-- big chunks of real avocado, mushrooms, and tomato, and they dont skimp on the cheese. Plus, they allow substitutions if youre feeling picky or indecisive. Theyre awesome like that. And, whatever you choose, the results are so, so tasty. Ive never been a huge omelette fan, but this place made me a believer.Their omelettes are so good that, even though Ive been here more than a dozen times, I cant speak for the other items on their menu. I tried a waffle w/ strawberries and whipped cream once, and it was okay -- nothing to write home about. Id guess that savory items are more their specialty.Service is good. Polite and helpful without being overbearing. Decor is definitely old-school diner. The sign out front says it was established in 1978, & the ambience inside bears that out. But its relaxed and clean (enough). Plus, you can get your food to go, which is always a bonus for me.

They were really generous with the bacon - shes a regular and was surprised it was much more than usual - and the side of hash browns was easily twice the amount Ive seen anywhere else. To be clear the food is great and theres at least 2 waiters working there that are absolutely outstanding at their job. Now for the bad. When you are the only decent breakfast restaurant in town you are going to be busy and most of the time they cant handle it. The cashiers are the Achilles heel of the place and not very good at what they do. They are slow, lack customer service skills, and force customers to work through frustration to pay for their meal. The food is good but you will work for it in frustration and personal space. You will feel crammed in, will bump into people constantly, will need to move to make way for other people or wait staff. If personal space is important to you or a pet peeve this is not the place for you. You wont be relaxed at any point of your time inside the place. I dont blame this on the restaurant however, theyre doing the best they can with the space they have. To sum it up the food is great, the experience is irritating, and the front end cashier staff are not very good at all with handling the chaos. Being a person that wants to relax when I have a meal I only dare to eat here once or twice a year. But if you like chaos and action while you eat this is the place for you. The food really is the best breakfast in Castro Valley.

Not sure if this place is under new management or not, but I can tell you this last visit was the last. The toast was burned and hard. The hash browns were also burned and greasy, the over medium eggs were done right along with the bacon, but the coffee had a bitter stale taste, they kept it on the bill anyway. We paid and tipped, but we wont be returning. A good hit it was not going to be the same as usual (the place was close to empty at noon, on a Sunday.) We usually have to wait to be seated. I wouldnt recommend this place anymore.

The potatoes used to be like homemade, now they are these tasteless hard cubes with no potato like texture. They used to fry the fresh onions with the potatoes and were so tasty. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the Canadian bacon was so thick I needed a steak knife to cut it, which they provided.The one let down, that cost them a star (or two or three, depending on who you are) is that they severely burnt the English muffin my eggs were on, and then tried to hide it by burying the dish in sauce. Very dismally place, very crowded always. Its ok, Ive only had breakfasts, service was not good at all, wait staff were always confused about who they were to serve. Ill only go if Im with other people who want to go there.

Went there to get a breakfast to go used to go to this place all the time and think it was one of the best since the Asian lady took it over she has ran into the ground tells her help to do things that shouldnt be done went to get an order to go and ask the cashier to take my money to pay for it ahead of time and she told the cashier not to do it for some reason she has the cashier taking orders for 2 to- go and taking money from people in line which does not work out well at all when I press the issue to pay because I was first in line she told the cashier not to take my money until my food was ready which means that by the time I get home my food going to be that much colder heres a picture of the food I got that day when I got home and prices are getting a little bit expensive at the end of this experience she told me to never come back
