Love riding motorcycle from the San Francisco Bay area for lunch at the Old Town Grill, browsing old and large hardware store, antique shops and art stores! Town is a bit touristy but has lots of history and atmosphere. Lots of picturesque back country, and winding roads. Large public parking garage that is free for 2 hours.

Adorable!! Such a cute and charming little place. Get a pasty pie at the enchanted Forrest and while its baking go into the funny novelty store next to it and buy some fun gifts... very funny stuff in there! Really cute slice of history with some modern fun thrown in for good measure

Due to the fact that my life has taken me to this charming tiny Gold Rush town once a year for the past three years, I have grown to love it. You should adore it and travel there, not settle there. Its perfect the way it is, and adding more people wouldnt improve it. You have five minutes to get across town. The downtown area is lovely, old, compact, and full of excellent restaurants. By 8 oclock though, the sidewalks have been totally rolled up. No nightlife in this town. Visit, buy things locally, have fun, return home, and repeat.

Cool little historic town. We were there for Hangtown Days festival. Wagon train rolled into town, there were shoot outs, grilled food and beers flowing freely. Many local shops to browse through and live music and dancing in tbe streets. You gotta check it out at least once.

Touristy but fun. Nice and level if you have physically challenged people travelling with you. Cools shops and friendly locals. Try one of the pubs on the street if youre hungry or thirsty. We enjoyed Jack Russell Brewery this trip.

A nice place to stop on the Gold Country Highway trip. The history in this place is running deep and theres plenty to do. We managed to get around to the local antique shops, where the owners are friendly enough. Theres a brewery in town as well as plenty of bars if youre in the mood for a beer. Easy access to public parking and the size makes the towns main drag easy enough to walk around. Stopping in the hardware store is highly recommended if you find that interesting.

Ive fallen in love with this lovely little Gold Rush town, as my life has brought me this way once a year for the last 3 years. Its the sort of place you should love and visit, not move to. Its fine just the way it is, and more people wouldnt make it better. You can get across town in 5 minutes. Downtown is beautiful, historic, small, full of great places and good food. The sidewalks are completely rolled up by 8pm though. Not a nightlife town. Visit, spend money locally, enjoy, go home, repeat.

A true old town shopping experience. Friendly store staff, not nearly the typically Chinese junk product offerings. Lots of antique stores a hardware store that will blow your mind, think the old general store with everything you can imagine. Downtown association is always having events. Several galleries and of course wine and spirits available to loosen your wallet =).

Interesting Gold Country town, with a lot of history. There is a museum in town full of information. We had pie at Sweetie Pies. The pie was very good with a large selection of flavors. Street parking is free but not always available. There is a parking structure available also.

I love coming here. I live in Sacramento & its not far of a drive to just get away from it all. While here I always visit the mines & enjoy the history behind one of the most haunted hotels in Placerville. Highly recommend.

Downtown Placerville is home to the oldest hardware store in the West. Great place to find unique gifts! Many dog friendly stores and water bowls along the street for dogs to take a drink. The history is very alive here!

Cute little downtown area. My husband and I like to check out the antique stores and we always find something interesting. Well usually grab a beer or a glass of wine at one of the stores, and maybe lunch and make a day of it. A great stop on the way to our from Apple Hill as well.

Downtown Placerville is the place to be with many different choices of food, and shopping opportunities. I like be walking down Main Street because it reminds me of the history and the people that built this amazing community. Another interesting thing about mainstreet is that there are lots and lots of antique stores that give you the ability to see what has come in and out of this cute little town. Finally, the store owners on Main Street are very welcoming and make you feel at home in this amazing gold digging town.

Not BAD, but the town isnt very great... Tiny tourist attraction town from the Gold Rush Era. More than a few hours in the place is more than enough. The locals have inherently high risk for drug problems/use, from pharmaceutical pills to meth, and it is apparent as you walk the town plaza and encounter the constituents of the town. Bunch of fake people fronting their façade all day.

One of the most fun and interesting old towns in Gold country. Placerville hardware is a great diversion and you can find almost anything you need here. Placerville news is another place I love to wander in, and I have found quite a few gifts here. Centro coffee by the Bell Tower is great. There are also plenty of good restaurants and a great used book store. Just lots to see. Hangtown never lets me down when I need retail therapy.

I went to the Brewfest on Saturday. Thought Id only spend a couple hours there and ended up being there from 3 to 10 pm. Had a great time. Saw the Weiner dog races ( my first time! ) drank beer, watched the beer ( holding) contests. First the women and then the men. Listened to music, and later on danced a lot! I had pizza for dinner and then tried some oysters ( another first) and they were rather scrumptious !! Had an extraordinary day!!

Placerville is a little time where people look you in the eyes and smile as you pass them on the street still. Where people hold doors for eachother regardless of gender just because its a nice thing to do. So its natural that the down town is placervilles crowning glory where we have the best used bookstore ever, though I am bias. As well as containing everything from a holistic healers, to florists, and even a army navy surplus store, placerville downtown boasts some of the citys best dining options.
