Good quick lunch! I wish they had smaller portions because I couldn’t finish the whole thing. I like the egg added to the tonkatsu. Tonkatsu was not the best I have had but good decent fulfilling meal. Cabbage was bitter so I didn’t finish it.

Decent portions and price. I wish their lunch specials didnt all include curry. They have a little more options for their dinner specials. They have a small parking lot which is shared with other businesses. You can park on the street as well.

May 2023 - First of all, I pass by this place all the time and have never heard of it! Its super lowkey.Food/Pricing - Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice (mild spicy) - Wasnt spicy at all! Still yummy though! Perfect comfort food.Service/Ambiance - Quick, friendly, and prompt service. The restaurant has (you guessed it) rubber ducks everywhere and has a comfortable home vibe.Parking - Decent sized parking lot. Other business share the lot with them.

The food is not bad. I ordered pork cutlet curry. And tempura. The cutlet is not bad, but I think the curry house in Irvine is better.Tried the donburry pork cutlet. It is a sweet taste sauce. Its not my favorite. But this is probably just me. Its just not my taste.

I came here with my family on a Sunday evening. Its a sit down restaurant but not overly formal. The food here is delicious. I had the chicken karaage bowl that had great flavor and texture. The udon noodles and soup base were delicious as well. Cant wait to try other items on the menu.

I forgot exactly what I ordered. I believe it was the lunch special #2. It was the cold noodles. It was so hot the other day that the cold noodles called my attention. I had never had Japanese cold noodles before and they were delicious! To be honest everything on the menu looks great.Come give them a try if you haven’t, you won’t be disappointed.

Went to try their famous Katsudon $13.95 and it was very tender and flavorful throughout. I will definitely be back to try their Chicken Curry and Tonkotsu Ramen. The gentleman who served me was friendly and had my takeout order ready on time. Plenty of free parking in lot.

Just all around good japanese food. I’ve had their soba, udons, and curry and all I can say is that it’s just tasty consistent food. I’m a regular there and would definitely recommend trying it out if you’re ever in the area.

A relatively small restaurant with fantastic service and incredible food. I tried the katsudon and was very happy I did. Best part about the dish has to be the rice which certainly shocked me. Ive never had rice that tasted that incredible. The only problem I had was that the pork was not crispy unfortunately. If it was, this would be one of the best dishes Ive ever had.

Very quaint, cute, friendly, family owned restaurant. Currently, 2nd generation, I still remember the original owner. One of the last curry spots in Los Angeles.I just went back after the pandemics and the food and service were great. The prices barely went up from pre-pandemic.I’m estatic to see Duck’s is extremely popular now! Be prepared for a wait, dine-in area is small and manageable.I’ve tried everything on the menu, my goto meals: Beef curry, karage, pork cutlet curry, katsu-don, and cold ramen noodle.Plenty of free parking!

Loved this homey, family run Japanese restaurant. The food was excellent! Service a bit slow, they were busy with many take-out orders. Prices are more than reasonable. The katsudon is just awesome. I would pass on the gyoza next time. Going into my regular rotation.

How have I never been to this Japanese restaurant?! Ive always passed by this spot ever since I was a kid but thought it was literally a restaurant that specializes in duck. Lo and behold, its a small restaurant that serves amazing Japanese food. I ordered their chicken karage and their katsudon (カツ丼). The karage was nicely deep fried and juicy to the bite. Their katsudon was in a big bowl and had a great flavors. It reminded me of my trip to Japan and all the Japanese food I had because its comparable to what youd get in the homeland. Ill definitely return to try the rest of their menu because Id say its worth your money and time if youre ever in the area.

Fantastic Japanese restaurant! Though there was a line to get in, we were seated pretty quickly. Karaage is very crunchy and large portions, the curry beef had large tender chunks and a good curry sauce, the donburi was excellent as well!

I have been wondering about this little corner shop for decades to seem so awkward cuz I never noticed anyone was in it but it was always in the business. I Finally got a chance to actually park, go in and try it. The inside is a bit larger than I expected very classic 80s 90s Japanese dive kind of feel. They serve curry rice Curry noodles in various ramen and so a as well as tempura. I ordered the vegetable tempura which came with three hilarious leaves of spinach that were fried shes basically just eating the batter the cold noodles were good and the side mini Curry was just very standard Japanese Curry roux Curry, nothing to call home about. The feeling of finally going in here made it better than it would have been otherwise.

Ducks is awesome! Everything Ive had here is great. Feels like good Japanese home cooking. Its very simple and delicious. The karaage is some of the best Ive ever had. The curry is delicious (get it spicy!) and comforting. The Unagidon was awesome! The Spicy Miso Ramen is really good, like really good. The broth is so good by itself and the the chashu is tender and falling apart and the noodles are perfectly done. Last night my friend had the karaagedon and wouldnt stop talking about how good it was. Wish I lived closer so I could go more often. The staff is all very nice and the restaurant has this feeling like youre just hanging out at a friends house. Cant wait to go back!Still super good. The side of chicken soup broth is really good and flavorful and a great cure for whatever ails you.

Ducks is my favorite family owned Japanese restaurant. I loved it since the original owners in my college time and now passed down to their daughter. Both of my kids love their curry and udon. Their udon (lunch and dinner set) only comes with two pieces of tofu skin and soup, but its been our favorite udon and soup base. Their fried food (from fried fish cake to the fried chicken in their Oyakodon) is no doubt the best in the area. While its crispy on the outside, it remains tender and juicy on the inside. Ive tried Oyakodon and Katsudon from many places and most of them were soggy with the sauce.

An AVERAGE Japanese restaurant here. First come first service, make sure you put your name on their paper and wait for to be call out. Bad service I feel like no one is really understand what you say or checking you to see how’s the food or need anything. They seemed busy at the counter it’s very hard to made eye contact with them. Ordered Otako Don the sauce was sweeter than I thought not much spices compared the authentic’s flavor. The restaurant needs to improve their air ventilation! Upon siting here for the food to be served, there were strong odor of frying and roasting smoked around.

The sauce they use for the donburi is unreal. Im in love with it. Sweetly savory! The veggie tempura is light and crispy, and the gyoza is battered and fried the same, both delicious too. New favorite place for Japanese comfort food.I also love the katsu curry in either meat, and my friend loved the veggie curry and the vegan yaki udon. The yaki udon was a huge portion.

My go-to for curry. Their serve a higher grade tonkatsu, very tender. Best karaage in town, very light and crispy tempura-like with tasty sauce. Great cold noodles. Never disappointed with anything ordered here. Great owner and friendly staff.

Lots to love about the place. Extremely friendly staff, no wait time for a table, food was in general great, parking was easy.We ordered the cold soba with tempura($18), and also a chicken karaage bowl($13). The soba was fantastic, great texture, the dipping sauce was perfectly balanced. The tempura was fine, no complaints there. The karaage bowl was really good, theres plenty of sauce for the rice, the chicken was crispy though there was quite a bit more batter than chicken.Just a couple cons, I thought it was a bit pricey for the soba+tempura. And the karaage had a hint of bitterness to it(bit burnt, but it didnt look like it from the outside). Would have been 4.5 for me, but Id rather round up than down

Easy low key spot. Unique plates that you dont find at other Japanese places but also with some classics. Good food. Excellent selection of Japanese beers (expensive), yummy sparkling wine (Choya). Our new favorite spot for casual Japanese. Well be back!

Went here for a late lunch yesterday with my cousin and her fiance. Was treated to wonderful pork cutlet and medium spicy curry. Food was excellent and very good. The breading on the pork cutlet was light and crispy and the curry was delicious.Yet another wonderful gem I would have missed if not for well informed friends and family. I will go here again for some katsu cravings.

Small family restaurant with quality food. From curry, ramen, udon to all different type of rice don. My favorite is the fried pork cutlet over rice with egg. When you order an entree you would get a small side salad. Overall I would recommend this place to everyone. I have been going for 20 plus years.

Unbelievable taste and preparation! Was not sure what to expect but we went here with a group and every dish our group got was incredibly good!Out of the dishes we got a range from chicken cutlet, spicy tonkotsu raman, katsu don, karaaga bowl.Everything was tastefully made and the customer service was top notch.Definitely recommend this place!

Its a nice quiet place, hidden gem!Definitely can feel authenticity here. It is not your typical teriyaki chicken place.The server is so sweet! 日本人！Ive tried the beef curry and the gyōza. I like how there is a mini beef curry :) gives me room for the crunchy yummy fried gyōza.I have tried the dessert, sad to say that it is not worth it... I wouldnt recommend coming here just for dessert.I am curious about the ramen, maybe one day Ill get the courage to try it!

I frequent this unique place many times because I like the ambiance that is part of this place. The team is exceptionally welcoming and well trained. The service is certainly efficient. I went to Ducks for Katsudon. Pork cutlet bowl with egg. It was just ok. The cooks are line cooks. Did not see a Japanese chef. Perhaps in the beginning there was a japanese cook. The katsudon order did not have any picked like umeboshi or rakyo. Just a small portion I. Of shredded cabbage with a bit of sauce. Usually in a proper tonkstsu place there spices and some tonkatsu sauce. Of course with katsudon the egg is cooked in a short based light sauce. I thought it was a bit too sweet. My one negative comment is the pork loin should be at least 1 cm thick. This was too thin and too much breading.. I think the line cooks need to go to a good tonkatsu place to see how it is done better.

Hands down the best Katsu Don Ive ever have. I literally visit this place no less than 4 times a month. It can be a little bit slow sometimes for the food to come out but its worth every minute. Go try their Dons and Cold Noodle (Ten Zaru Soba)

I have wanted to stop by this place for a long time. I finally made it today after church. I ordered the katsu teishoku (I believe thats what it was called) and my son ordered the katsu with curry. Both dishes were great. I really enjoyed the curry (first time liking Japanese curry) the katsu and even the rice. I am not a big fan of rice but the texture and flavor of this rice is fantastic. Next time I will try the ramen. They look good. BTW they do not serve duck here.

Their tempura really surprised me -- highly recommend for this who dont normally like tempura veggies. Free parking space. Limited staff so please be patient. Beer and sake served here.

My favorite authentic Japanese curry restaurant in SGV!Ive tried numerous chains such as Hurry Curry and Curry House but I always end up comparing them to my moms curry, which blows them out of the water. Finally theres a restaurant that serves curry that is the perfect consistency and comparable to what my mom cooks!Ive been here twice and we usually end up ordering the combo A Set which consists of a mini Katsudon and udon noodle soup, along with a regular entree of the chicken curry to share. The Katsudon is on the sweeter side but yelpers rave about this dish, and the udon noodle soup is pretty plain (consists of broth, udon noodles, and two pieces of aburaage),but the noodles are chewy and the broth is very flavorful. My only complaint is that the food can be slightly salty but overall you know the food is authentic Japanese when theres actually Japanese patrons eating besides you and the best part is that I dont have to drive to Little Tokyo for this stuff!

Run by a family, at least from what I could tell. Granny in the kitchen with granpa? Two servers on the floor with 40 seats. 6 tables and 4 counter seats. All speak Japanese.The atmosphere felt like rustic post war Hawaii without trying. Fans hanging all over the ceiling with one side of the shop windows completely covered by plant. Nothing but tungsten lights lit up the place. Its still sort of dark at 2pm. Two tone (white, pale green) finish. No TV but a radio spilling out something that I never made out what it was.Service was a bit disappointing. Long wait due to a lack of staff, and probably dinner ware.The food was good but its pricy. I would say stick with curry. I tried curry, tonkutsu ramen, cutlet, and some lunch special. Curry was best but from the fried fish cake I had, I would say their tempura could be amazing.Return visit, maybe.

Love coming here for their curry dishes. It doesnt disappoint. Choice of mild, medium & hot. Chunks of chicken or beef. You can also get a pork or chicken cutlet. They even offer ebi (shrimp) with curry. If you look under spaghetti, theres a variety of curry spaghetti. However if curry isnt your thing, theres ramen, udon & tempura too. Quiet atmosphere with a friendly staff.
